This includes solutions like full-disk encryption (FDE) for laptops, database encryption (like Transparent Data Encryption or TDE), and file/folder level encryption. The most common technologies in this space are Transport Layer Security (TLS), which secures web traffic (HTTPS), and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), which create secure tunnels for network communication. The goal is to prevent eavesdropping and man-in-the-middle attacks. A third, emerging market type is Data-in-Use Encryption. This is the most challenging state to protect, and it involves using advanced technologies like homomorphic encryption and confidential computing to protect data while it is being actively processed in a computer's memory (RAM).

Finally, the market can be segmented by the specific end-user industry, as different verticals have unique security challenges, data types, and regulatory requirements. The Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) sector is one of the largest adopters of encryption. They are driven by regulations like the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and the need to protect sensitive financial transactions and customer account information. The Healthcare vertical is another major market, driven by the need to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to protect electronic protected health information (ePHI). The Government and Defense sector has the most stringent requirements, often demanding the use of government-certified (e.g., FIPS 140-2/3) encryption hardware and algorithms to protect classified information. The Retail industry uses encryption heavily to protect customer payment data and personal information, while the IT and Telecom sector uses it to secure its vast communication networks and the massive amounts of data it manages for its customers.
