Zelfs Mercedes-coureur George Russell, die de beste bolide ter beschikking heeft, hoopte op veranderingen. "De coureurs zitten behoorlijk op n lijn. We willen vol gas in de kwalificatie en het is belangrijk dat het veiliger wordt." Minder snelheidsverschil In de race wordt de zogenaamde boostfunctie iets minder krachtig, waardoor er minder snelheidsverschil ontstaat tussen een coureur die zijn energiesysteem oplaadt en een coureur die vol gas geeft. In de GP van Japan leverde dat dat verschil een heftige crash op van Haas-coureur Oliver Bearman, die met veel meer snelheid aankwam bij Franco Colapinto. Daarnaast wordt de startprocedure gewijzigd. Auto's die niet voldoende energie hebben bij het vertrek krijgen een boostfunctie, waardoor ze in ieder geval in beweging komen in plaats van stil te blijven staan. Ook krijgen zij een knipperend licht om naderende coureurs te waarschuwen. Kwalificatie Ook de kwalificatie gaat op de schop. Coureurs mogen minder energie terugwinnen dan voorheen, waardoor ze - als het goed is - bijna de hele ronde gas kunnen geven. In de eerste races van het seizoen moesten coureurs in hun snelle ronde nog regelmatig snelheid minderen op rechte stukken om het energiesysteem op te laden. De verwachting is wel dat de kwalificatierondes iets langzamer worden, aangezien de auto over de hele ronde minder energie kan verbruiken.
