Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Las Vegas Raiders were the Week 1 winners over the Miami Dolphins. Veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins made his debut under center, and he helped the team take this win. But the main focal point of this victory was running back Ashton Jeanty.Jeanty was a force the entire game against Miami. He affected the game both on the ground and through the air. He was the leading receiver and leading rusher for the Raiders on Sunday. It led Vegas to a 27-13 win to open the year. After the game, Cousins could not contain his pride and excitement over the performance given by Jeanty.Watch sports LIVE with fuboTV (free trial)Hes very natural in the pass game. Runs hard. Hes a great player, great talent. Great pick by this team. Looking forward to using him. Gotta keep him healthy this year, the Raiders quarterback told NFL on FOX on Sunday.Jeanty found the endzone twice, both in the passing game. He caught six passes for 45 yards. On the ground, he racked up 102 yards on 23 carries. He helped Las Vegas keep some distance between them and the Dolphins on the scoreboard.Cousinss debut with Las Vegas was a bit rocky, even with the win. He tossed three touchdown passes against the Dolphins defense. However, Miamis defense also picked off the veteran quarterback twice.Still, the Raiders won this one, and thats a ton of momentum heading into the future. Vegas will look to continue their early season winning ways on September 20 when they take on the Los Angeles Chargers on the road.Related: Watch Raiders Kirk Cousins find Ashton Jeanty for 300th career passing TDRelated: Raiders rumors: Brock Bowers on track for ludicrous injury recovery after knee surgery0 Comments 0 Shares 61 Views 0 ReviewsPlease log in to like, share and comment! -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKnicks news: Jose Alvarado gets NY sports hero treatment at Cowboys-Giants clashCredit: Brad Penner-Imagn ImagesKnicks news: Jose Alvarado gets NY sports hero treatment at Cowboys-Giants clash appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.If it werent for the New York Knicks, the city of New York would be in shambles from a sporting point of view. Their football situation, in particular, looked bleak. After all, the New York Giants and New York Jets combined for just seven wins out of 34 games last season. But with the new NFL season being upon us, hope is renewed for the people of New York if the Knicks can break their 53-year championship drought, why cant their football teams shock the world in similar fashion as well?On Sunday, the Giants kicked off their 2026 season with a 28-20 win over division rival Dallas Cowboys at home. During this game at MetLife Stadium, a hero during the Knicks title run, Jose Alvarado, was in attendance. As one would expect, Alvarado got quite the warm reception from the fans in attendance with the Knicks guard hyping up the crowd when he was introduced.Watch sports LIVE with fuboTV (free trial)JOSE CHAMPION ALVARADO IN THE HOUSE pic.twitter.com/Fxq25EdWrR Rebecca (@RebeccaChasen) September 14, 2026The spirits remain high in New York city, and the Knicks have certainly rallied a city thats been crying out for success in sports. Of course, the New York Liberty did win the WNBA championship in 2024, so its not like the city has been in a long title-winning drought. But this is the Big Apple, where expectations are high, year-in, year-out.Alvarado played a huge role in the Knicks comeback victory in Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. He was on the court for the final few minutes of that contest, igniting a spark that spurred New York to a historic comeback victory from 29 points down. The 28-year-old guard from Puerto Rico endeared himself to the Knicks fanbase rather quickly, and hes expected to provide a boost off the bench this year once more while backing up the King of New York himself, Jalen Brunson. The Knicks acquired him from the New Orleans Pelicans in a three-team trade involving the Chicago Bulls which cost them Guerschon Yabusele and two second-round picks. Alvarado is currently in the final year of his contract.Related: Knicks star Jalen Brunson and Ben Stiller catch Frances Tiafoe vs. Ben Shelton match0 Comments 0 Shares 61 Views 0 Reviews -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTough night for George PickensDallas Cowboys WR George Pickens caught three passes for 28 yards against the New York Giants in Week 1. Pickens was targeted six times.SOURCE: ESPNWhy It Matters: Year 2 in Dallas did not get off to a smooth start for Pickens, who dropped two of the first four passes that were thrown his way, including one that would've gone for a huge gain. Pickens had a similarly forgettable performance in his Cowboys debut, posting a 4-30-0 line against the Eagles in last year's season opener, and then proceeded to score in each of his next five games. This was a "flush it and forget it" night for Pickens, who remains a solid WR2 for your lineup. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Tough night for George Pickens0 Comments 0 Shares 61 Views 0 Reviews -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSteve Ballmer backs down on NBA punishment, apologizes as Clippers accept $30 million fineINGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer won't fight the NBA's salary cap circumvention punishment in a reversal of the team's initial defiance and vow to fight against what it called a heavily biased investigation. In his first public comments since the NBA announced a sweeping punishment against the Clippers this month, Ballmer said in a statement posted online Sunday night that the team would comply with the penalties handed down by the league. The league suspended Ballmer for one year, fined the team $30 million and forced it to forfeit five first-round draft picks.Ballmer said the team has paid the fine. While there are still disagreements concerning the findings in the report, this is not where I want to focus, he said. Team owners should support, not distract.Ballmer apologized to Clippers fans, employees and his fellow owners for the distraction and distress caused by the investigation that found the team violated salary cap circumvention rules involving Kawhi Leonard. This has been a very difficult time for everybody associated with the Clippers, and for that, I have sincere regrets, Ballmer wrote. I want to apologize to our fans, employees, and fellow NBA team owners for the distraction and distress this matter has caused, for which I accept responsibility as principal owner. The league came down hard on the organization after a nearly yearlong investigation led by an outside law firm. The Clippers had said multiple times that they had done nothing wrong and expected to be exonerated. After the penalties were announced, the team said it vehemently rejected the NBAs findings and called it a heavily biased investigation. The Clippers also released a letter from Ballmers attorney David Kelley to Silver in which he described the investigation as a witch hunt and the subsequent penalties as a gross injustice. The NBA began investigating in September 2025 whether a $28 million endorsement contract between Leonard and Aspiration Fund Adviser LLC a company that filed for bankruptcy last year broke league rules, following a report by journalist Pablo Torre. Earlier this year, Aspiration co-founder Joseph Sanberg was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to defrauding investors and lenders of at least $248 million. The league said Ballmer knowingly sought to help Leonard obtain off-court income deals, approved a business deal that he knew was a precondition for Aspiration to enter into an endorsement contract with Leonard, and for failing to create conditions under which his team followed league rules.Ballmer said the team is committed to putting this chapter behind us.The challenges ahead of us are significant, but so is our resolve, he said. We will continue to build our team and invest in our community. The confidence of our fans is our priority. With our talented roster, outstanding staff and clear vision, I am certain that we will compete at the highest level and be an organization our fans can be proud of.Leonards trade to the Toronto Raptors has been on hold pending the outcome of the investigation. The Raptors have said they still want Leonard, and he apparently is just as eager to return to the team where he won an NBA title and was Finals MVP in 2019.___See APs full NBA coverage here0 Comments 0 Shares 62 Views 0 Reviews -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow Notre Dames opponents fared in WEEK 2 of the CFB seasonEAST LANSING, MI - SEPTEMBER 12: Michigan State Spartans running back Jaziun Patterson (4) dives to find the end zone during a college football game between the Michigan State Spartans and Eastern Michigan Eagles on September 12, 2026 at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, MI. (Photo by Adam Ruff/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) | Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesNotre Dames 2026 college football schedule has been called many thing over the last eight months, but tough or anywhere near the word hard was certainly not among them. Still, some have mentioned that this Irish schedule could look a lot trickier as the season progresses. While they may eventually be true, it may not matter all that much (except for message boards and social media).Notre Dame took a minute or two to get going against the Wisconsin Badgers in the season opener, but eventually the Irish whooped them 42-13. Notre Dame welcomed the Rice Owls to South Bend for the home opener, and sent them back to Texas with a 52-0 loss. This week the Irish bring back a rivalry game with the Michigan State Spartans.Notre Dame is likely to be favored in every game this season, and they have become the popular pick to win the national championship. Their strength of schedule probably isnt going to matter much, but lets keep track of it anyway. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCowboys mistakes and missed opportunities doom them in openerIn the immediate aftermath of the loss, one thing is exceptionally clear: the Dallas Cowboys left far too many plays on the field. From penalties to missed opportunities, Dallas was outplayed by both the New York Giants and themselves.Dallas had seven penalties for 60 yards in just the first half alone. They would end up finishing the game with nine penalties for 90 yards. This included a taunting call from Javonte Williams late into the fourth quarter en route to a touchdown, leading to a missed PAT.Paired with that, the Cowboys defense finished with five turnover-worthy plays but only walked away with a single takeaway. From forced fumbles that just bounced the wrong way to dropped interceptions, the Cowboys defense just couldnt take advantage. On a night where the Giants moved the ball slowly yet methodically down the field, chewing up clock on the way to the endzone, this defense needed to finish when the ball was up for grabs. They just didnt do that.As mentioned earlier in the week, one of the ways that Dallas could lose this game was due to lack of defensive scheme experience and familiarity. This lack of experience certainly factored into the large voids left on the field by Cowboys defenders leading to multiple New York Giants touchdowns. These mistakes allowed the Giants offense to convert on third downs at a rate of 81%. This kept the Cowboys offense off the field for much of the second half. And lets not give the offense a pass. Against the Giants, George Pickens was not the same player that we saw throughout training camp. Two untimely drops resulted in a punt and an eventual turnover an interception thrown by Dak just before the half on a ball he seemingly meant to throw away. The Giants would go and score back-to-back touchdowns after that mistake and never look back. The dropped deep ball from Pickens was a turning point in this game. The expectation for the Cowboys was to come into their division rivals house and knock them down. But Dallas found out the hard way that when you play an underdog like the Giants in their own stadium, the quickest way to lose is to commit untimely penalties, turn the ball over, and miss your opportunities at big plays. The Cowboys did just that, and now they will start the season 0-1.0 Comments 0 Shares 136 Views 0 Reviews -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMXander Bogaerts can be better than thisSAN DIEGO, CA - SEPTEMBER 04: Xander Bogaerts #2 of the San Diego Padres looks on prior to the game between the New York Yankees and the San Diego Padres at Petco Park on Friday, September 4, 2026 in San Diego, California. (Photo by Ryan Levy/MLB Photos via Getty Images) | MLB Photos via Getty ImagesDuring his time as the control partner of the San Diego Padres, the late Peter Seidler was aggressive with spending money to build a core of players for the team he loved. Signing Manny Machado to a long-term contract and then extending him when he had an opt-out option, Seidler committed a total of $470 million to Machado for his contract covering 2019 through 2033.Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jake Cronenworth added to coreWhen Seidler and general manager A.J. Preller recognized the exciting talent of the Padres young shortstop, Fernando Tatis Jr., they negotiated a 14-year contract extension that committed him to the Padres through 2034 and pays $340 million.Infielder Jake Cronenworth, the Padres defensive specialist at multiple positions, was given a much smaller contract at seven years and $80 million to anchor the infield while being able to play all four infield spots. Cronenworths contract presently looks to be a bargain for a player that will never be a superstar but is steady and reliable while playing excellent defense at multiple spots. The team will likely believe that all of those contracts were justified in the long run. Even Machado, who is on a Hall-of-Fame career track, was a defensible decision based on his contract being the one that established the organization as being serious about contending and his standing as the teams leader on and off the field.Xander Bogaerts addition is a puzzleThe head scratcher, the player signed to a contract that seemed a massive overpay at the time and even more so now, is shortstop Xander Bogaerts. There is no denying he was a superstar in his time with the Boston Red Sox, earning multiple World Series championships. When his contract ended with Boston, the Padres outbid everyone else in the running. The Red Sox infamously offered Bogaerts a 4-year, $90 million contract, then upped it to six years and $160 million. The Cubs were rumored to have offered him a multi-year, $200 million contract. The Padres blew all those offers out of the water, signing Bogaerts, 30-years-old at the time, to an 11-year, $280 million deal that carried through the 2033 season, when Bogaerts will be 41 years old.It was a puzzling decision by Seidler and the Padres. They already had multiple shortstops on the roster with Tatis being a blooming superstar. In his first year with the Padres, Bogaerts hit a respectable .285/.350/.440 with 19 home runs and 58 RBI. That 2023 season was his best as a Padre.Offensive strugglesSince the 2023 season, Bogaerts has declined offensively each year. Some of that can be attributed to injuries, with a broken shoulder and broken foot affecting his 2024 and 2025 seasons. So far in 2026, Xander Bogaerts has been relatively healthy. With a hamstring scare and a ball fouled off his foot in August, Bogaerts left those games but was never held from a game or placed on the injured list. Despite having no significant injury this season, Bogaerts is having his worst season as an MLB player. At 33-years-old, Bogaerts is at the back end of his peak production as a professional player. A players peak years are considered to be between the age of 27 and 32 with production tailing significantly after that age. With seven years remaining on his contract, Bogaerts is in the declining years of his career. With a look at his stats, it appears his hitting is the first to go.Bogaerts started the season strong in 2026. In April, he hit .292/.382/.472 with five home runs and 15 RBI. He had a good spring, hitting .286 with a .819 OPS, so his strong start was very encouraging. Unfortunately, May brought expectations back down to earth. Hitting .204 in May and .211 in June, Bogaerts managed just six extra-base hits in 51 games.July was even worse, hitting .167 with a .523 OPS in 24 games. In 27 games in August, Bogaerts hit .212 with a .674 OPS, with seven extra-base hits and 11 RBI.For Septembers 10 games, Bogaerts is pushing his numbers up as the team is making a playoff push. Hitting .314/.415/.371 with a .786 OPS, Bogaerts is following a trend in his career of improving his numbers during the last month of the season.Strong defenseIf there is one silver lining to the Bogaerts situation, it is his defense at shortstop. After switching him to second base for 85 games in 2024 to accommodate Ha-Seong Kim at shortstop, Bogaerts has been their primary shortstop. From 2023 through this season, Bogaerts has been in the 80th percentile or above in Outs Above Average as a shortstop. In 2025, he finished in the 93rd percentile with seven OAA. He has improved his arm strength during his time with the Padres, even though it continues to be below average. It seems unlikely that a drastic improvement in his offense will occur at this point in his career. Bogaerts, an admired leader on the team, will need to work over the next offseason to evaluate what needs to change. Looking at his Baseball Savant page, Bogaerts has not lost bat speed or exit velocity over his time with the Padres. He does not strike out more or chase more than in past years. At best, his stats portray an average to below-average major league hitter. That is borne out in his status as the No. 8 hitter in the Padres lineup, a spot unfamiliar to a player with Bogaerts past pedigree.Machado made swing changes this past offseason in order to improve his bat speed and exit velocity, he has not recovered from the slump those changes threw him into. He is also having the worst year of his career in batting average numbers. Machado is still the best power hitter on the team and leads in RBI, but players need to show caution when reworking their swings as they age.Bogaerts can still be a valuable player for the Padres if he can improve his offense to average. His underlying numbers indicate he still can do that. Bogaerts will have to make the adjustments all aging players must make.It is too late to live up to the contract he signed. Both Bogaerts and Machado will long be done as players before the Padres stop paying them. What Bogaerts needs to focus on is adjusting his game so he can be a contributor for as long as possible.0 Comments 0 Shares 136 Views 0 Reviews -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDavey reignites international ambitions with WalesMegan Davey has made a record 124 appearances for Loughborough Lightning [Huw Evans Picture Agency]Megan Davey's international ambitions have been reignited at her self-proclaimed 'old' age of 26.Loughborough Lightning's record appearance holder considered going into full-time teaching when she did not make Wales' 2026 Six Nations squad. Her hopes were dashed again when omitted from Sean Lynn's extended training squad for the WXV Global Series."There was a little bit of a wobble," Davey admitted."It's hard to keep going when you're at my age, you feel old in the game."But the half-back received a call-up last month and is now part of the 39-strong squad which will take on South Africa, USA and Japan."There's always been something inside me, I know I can do it, it's the voice inside my head that's kept me going," she said."I was really happy that I got an opportunity."Rose out of Wales WXV squad with injuryDavey qualifies for Wales through her grandfather from Llanelli but went through the English pathway system as a youngster. "The avenue for under-20s was always really with England because it wasn't as set up with Wales, but now it's really good," she said."I'm a little bit older...now I feel like I can really do people proud."And despite being a latecomer in camp, Davey says everyone has been welcoming."There's always that thing when you walk into an environment that's already established, you're like 'how am I going to do?' but I was really raring to go," she added."Obviously a bit sad that I wasn't in the squad to begin with, but you just crack on with what you're doing." Davey has primarily trained at scrum-half with Wales and faces competition from Keira Bevan and Seren Lockwood. And contrary to the stereotype of the position, the nines get along with no animosity. "We all really enjoy each other's company. We want each other to do well, so there's never that hatred towards each other," said Davey, who has previously started at fly-half for Loughborough."Whoever goes out there and does the job first is the best pick for the team and you just need to back that completely."Wales open their WXV campaign against South Africa at Cardiff Arms Park on Friday, 18 September (19:15 BST), and any potential involvement would mean the world to Davey."Playing international rugby is such a privilege and I want to make everyone proud - my family, but also the coaches that have been behind me for the last 15 years of my journey," she said. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDevils beaten by Blaze comeback in Challenge CupCardiff forward Riley Brandt was ejected from the game for fighting [Scott Wiggins]Cardiff Devils twice let slip a one goal lead as they were beaten 3-2 at Coventry Blaze in the Challenge Cup at the Skydome Arena.Carson Musser scored the winner with just over four minutes left for Blaze, who had suffered a 6-0 opening game defeat to Sheffield Steelers 24 hours earlier.Cardiff - who had begun their campaign with a 3-1 win over Guildford Flames - opened the scoring through Bayley Harewood. It was a first Elite League goal for Barry-born Harewood, playing in his first full-time season for Devils. The first period ended 1-1 after Griffin Ness' leveller, before Kohen Olischefski restored the Welsh side's lead in the second, which also saw them lose forward Riley Brandt to a major penalty.Ryan Richardson brought the home side level again with a power-play goal midway through the third period before Musser secured the comeback win."Those were tough conditions; the ice was terrible. It didn't sit down all night, and it's hard to play your game, but that's for both teams," said Devils' head coach Paul Thompson."In this game you have got to take your chances when they come along. We didn't get that 3-1 goal, which may have sealed it. Credit to the Blaze for coming back."Sheffield Steelers top the Group A table after the opening weekend, having followed up their handsome opening victory against Blaze with a shoot-out win at Guildford.Nottingham Panthers are second, despite their game at Manchester Storm being called off, with Blaze third and Devils in fourth place.Storm - who are due to host Cardiff on Friday, 18 September - were unable to play the game because of "technical issues with the ice" at the AO arena.0 Comments 0 Shares 80 Views 0 Reviews -
