SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNBA power rankings: Rockets tumble as offense slumps, losses mountSundays loss at Sacramento was the third straight for the Houston Rockets (22-14), who dropped to the No. 7 spot in the Western Conference standings. If the 2025-26 season ended today, that would mean having to advance to the playoffs via the West play-in tournament. Its quite a change from just a few days ago, when the Rockets were in a virtual tie for the No. 3 position.Yet, even after that type of deflating week, Houston somehow still owns the second-best point differential (+7.2) among all 30 NBA teams.Via the weekly NBA.com power rankings, in which the Rockets fell from No. 5 last week to No. 9 this week, John Schuhmann explains the factors at play:Amazingly, the Rockets are still in the top eight on both ends of the floor, withthe leagues second-best per-game point differential. Each of their last four losses has been within five points in the last five minutes, and they still have the leagues best record (15-2) in games thatwerentwithin five in the last five. But the Rockets lastsevenlosses have all come against teams with losing records. The Kings have won just three of their last 16 games and two of those wins came against Houston. The last five games have also been the Rockets worst stretch of offense (107.4 points scored per 100 possessions) all season, with players not named Durant or Amen Thompsonhaving shot 34%.Alperen Sengun missed three of those games before returning to the lineup on Sunday, when his teammates were probably road weary. The Rockets have played the leagues most road-heavy schedule by a wide margin, with only 13 of their 36 games having come at home. Theyre still 11-2 at Toyota Center and will now begin their first of two five-game homestands.Unfortunately, while the Rockets will play a number of home games (a welcome change after their 11-12 record on the road), there is a scheduling complication coming up.The Rockets are 0-3 in the second games of back-to-backs, but theyre the only team that hasnt played a rest-disadvantage game yet, Schuhmann writes. Their first is Friday, the second game of a huge back-to-back against the Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves. Theyre currently 5-4 against the six teams ahead of them in the West. That could put more pressure on the Rockets to win Tuesdays homestand opener versus the Chicago Bulls (18-20). Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m. Central, and the game will televised regionallyon Space City Home Network (SCHN)and nationally viaNBA League Pass.Tari Eason (right ankle sprain) and Dorian Finney-Smith (left ankle injury management) are both listed as out, which means the Rockets likely need Jabari Smith Jr. to snap out of his recent slump.More: Rockets ankle injuries: Alperen Sengun returns, Tari Eason day to dayI know Rockets fans are ready to fire Jabari into the sun, but some interesting stats show a theme: he's awesome in wins, horrible in losses. Wins: 50% from the field, 40% from 3, +23.7 net rating, best on the team in winsLosses: 34.3% from the field, 28% from 3, -12.8 net, Hardwood Paroxysm (@HPbasketball) January 12, 2026This article originally appeared on Rockets Wire: NBA power rankings: Rockets tumble as offense slumps, losses mount0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 16 Views 0 Anteprima
