In competition with Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson started the first preseason game for the Browns on Saturday against the Bears and played the entire first half.The results were middling.Watson ended his two-quarter outing 11-of-15 passing for 126 yards. The Browns scored a field goal and a touchdown with him in. But Watson was not particularly impressive, at times looking uncomfortable in the pocket and firing inaccurate passes. He was also strip-sacked on a fourth-and-2 from the Chicago 40 as the Browns were trying to extend a drive early in the second quarter.Most of Watsons yardage came on a 43-yard screen pass to Dylan Sampson late in the first period. He attempted just one pass over 10 yards in the air.Head coach Todd Monken mentioned to reporters during the week that the Browns would do everything they could to get a two-minute drill, and they had that opportunity when rookie corner Michael Coats picked off Tyson Bagent late in the second quarter. But Cleveland did nothing with it, as Watson threw a pair of incompletions on second and third down on the ensuing possession.Rookie first-round receiver KC Concepcion showed explosiveness and versatility, returning a punt 28 yards, catching three passes for 27 yards, and taking in an end around for a 14-yard touchdown. Fellow rookie Denzel Boston also moved the chains with a 15-yard catch on the left side.Sanders is set to play the third quarter for Cleveland. Minimizing the number of hits Jaxson Dart takes in his second season with the New York Giants will be key for the 2025 first-round pick. He weathered a massive one on Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings in the teams preseason opener at MetLife Stadium.It arrived on the final play of the first quarter, and it sent Dart to the medical tent, where he was checked for a concussion, according to ESPNs Jordan Raanan.Dart, who notably dealt with concussion issues throughout his rookie season even popping into the blue tent five times in a 10-game span was quickly cleared. He went 3 of 4 for 26 yards and the highlight-reel touchdown he tossed. His journey to the medical tent isnt part of that stat line; however, it wont be forgotten in the aftermath of the preseason contest.

Brentford 7-0 Frankfurt: Seventh heaven for Bees in final friendlyBrentford finished their pre-season smashing seven past Eintracht Frankfurt at the Indeed Invitational at the Gtech Community Stadium winning 7-0.They go into their opening Premier League fixture at home to Spurs following a glut of goals.The Bundesliga side, who had won all five of their previous pre-season games and finished eighth in the Bundesliga last season, were put to the sword in West London in front of more than 13,000 fans.Braces from Kevin Schade and Igor Thiago, a home debut goal for Mamadou Sangar and strikes from Keane Lewis-Potter and Dango Ouattara will have made some head turns even during pre-season.Shade scored the opener after just two minutes, Sangar volleyed from just outside the box after 12 minutes and Igor Thiago tapped the ball into an open goal to make it 3-0 at the half.It didnt take long for Brentford to continue their goalscoring in the second half with Ouattarra and Lewis-Potter netting before the hour.Thiago and Shade netted again in the second half to make it seven to the hosts.Frankfurt goalkeeper Kau Santos had a game to forget making several costly mistakes and conceding so many.Captain Robin Koch came off injured for Frankfurt following a mistake for the third goal and could be a doubt for the start of the German season.Frankfurt rarely threatened in a match they will soon wish to forget.Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson were amongst those in attendance and watched the game from behind the dugout.Adi Htter will surely be asking questions of his goalkeeper and defense and will be wondering if his side can concede fewer goals than the 65 they shifted last season in the Bundesliga.Keith Andrews side will be in high hopes as the Premier League season looms with their only home pre-season game being near perfect.A planned penalty shootout did not take place after the final whistle.All eyes will now be on Brentfords Premier League opener at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday 22 August at 17:30 (BST).

Three players - Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Stefan Bajcetic are out of contract in 2027. Unless new deals are quickly wrapped up then Richard Hughes will face losing another three performers for nothing next summer.Jones is closing in on a deal to join Inter Milan while teams in the Bundesliga and around the Premier League are thought to want Elliott.Bajcetic is sought for a deal in his native Spain - with the Spaniard needing first-team football following his recovery from injury.Liverpool ready to let McConnell leave on loanOther youngsters could also end up leaving Anfield this summer - albeit on loan.Trey Nyoni has been mentioned as an option for Swansea as well as teams in Scotland. Djed Spence completes Inter Milan moveInter Milan have completed the signing ofDjed Spence from Tottenham Hotspur, with the defender agreeing a five-year contract with the Serie A champions.The 26-year-old has joined Inter for a reported fee of around 30 million (25.6m), bringing his four-year spell in north London to an end. Spence will remain at San Siro until June 2031.Spence arrived at Tottenham from Middlesbrough in 2022 and went on to make 85 appearances for the club. He played an important role in their Europa League triumph during the 2024-25 campaign, while making 44 appearances across all competitions last season.His future at Spurs had been uncertain despite manager Roberto De Zerbi previously expressing a desire to keep him. The emergence of Pedro Porro, who recently signed a new contract, alongside the arrival of Andy Robertson from Liverpool, increased competition for places in defence.Spence has also gained experience outside England, spending time on loan with Rennes, Leeds United and Genoa.He becomes the second England international to join Inter this summer after John Stones arrived from Manchester City. He walked a tightrope on Friday night, loading the bases in the ninth inning, but somehow survived to earn the save. It wasnt a good outing by any means, but all parties believe Daz is at least heading in the right direction. Daz since returning from the injured list has one clean outing in six tries, with seven runs allowed in 4 2/3 innings. One night after allowing three runs in a blown save to the Brewers, he walked two batters and hit another, loading the bases in the ninth inning. This time he escaped without damage, helped by a fantastic play by second baseman Tommy Edman for the second out of the frame. A grounder to shortstop Mookie Betts ended it.It was good for him to work his way out of it, and obviously he was a hitter away, manager Dave Roberts said. Even with that last hitter, I wanted to see him try to fight through it and get through it. I was happy that he finished what he started.Daz said his posture on the mound was something he was working on, that his misses were more off the plate than in the middle of the strike zone to get punished.Im leaning too much toward the right-handed hitter. Instead of straight down the plate, today was way better, Daz said. My fastball ride was way batter than yesterday. Im going in a good direction, so keep getting better and keep getting better.Theres still a lot to work on for Daz, who threw only 11 strikes in his 26 pitches on Friday.It wasnt pretty, I watched the inning too, Roberts said. The strength department and the pitching side of things, hes kind of detected some things I think we could clean up, so thats encouraging, Roberts added. We started that process today. If Vesia, Phillips or Jack Dreyer pitch on Saturday, they will have also pitched five times in eight days.Its been a busy time for the Dodgers bullpen.Thats the hard part, that a lot of people dont have the information on availability and workload, and redlining guys, trying to keep guys healthy. I dont have everyone available every single night, and whats the cost of that night versus the next two or three games and looking also at the rest of the season, Roberts said. Those things I gotta think through, and when you peel that layer back, then your options get a little bit smaller. Then youre talking about lanes and whats the best for a particular pitcher. All those things matter.To Roberts point, its likely that Scott wouldnt be available on Saturday either, in addition to Daz, as no Dodgers reliever has pitched on three consecutive days this season. It's a good thing to get your reality check early in the season, or even betterin the preseason. After taking down the Arizona Cardinals last week, the Carolina Panthers got that out of the way when they ran into a brick wall this afternoon.As Buffalo Bills head coach and former Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady ran circles around defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, Carolina's first-string offense found no answers when they had the ball.Starting quarterback Bryce Young didnt get much of an opportunity on his first drive of the game. After a short run by running back Jonathon Brooks, he completed a 6-yard pass to tight end Tommy Tremble. On third down, he had nowhere to go with the ball as pressure came down on himso he threw it away rather than taking the sack.Youngs second drive wasnt any better. After completing a 9-yarder to Brooks, the offensive line got pushed backwards on a run for a loss. On third down, Youngs pass was batted down at the line of scrimmage by Bills linebacker Terrel Bernard.For his last time out on the field, it was much the same story. After one completion for three yards to tight end JaTavion Sanders, the drive stalled. Young dropped back on third-and-6, but held onto the ball too long and wound up taking a sack from defensive tackle Deone Walker.Young's day is now overfinishing with three completions on five attempts for 18 yards and a 67.1 passer rating. As a whole, the Panthers' first-team offense recorded zero first downs.To be fair, Carolina's offensive line was missing multiple starters, including left guard Damien Lewis and right guard Robert Huntand there's not much Young can do when he isn't getting solid protection. The Panthers' run game is also going to be predicated on quality blocking up front.
