Kate O'Connor won bronze in the women's pentathlon in Poland last month [Getty Images]Ireland's Kate O'Connor said she has "not reached my potential in any of the events" as she gears up for the outdoor season.The 25-year-old is a world outdoor silver medallist in the heptathlon and recently won bronze in the women's pentathlon at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Poland in March having claimed silver in the same event last year.Following two weeks of some much-needed physical and mental rest, O'Connor is preparing for a training camp in Portugal next month as she builds towards the Commonwealth Games and European Athletics Championships.Having enjoyed so much success in 2025, O'Connor is keen to keep improving and is reluctant to place restrictions on how far she can go with the Olympics still two years away."I don't know what the limit is for me and I don't want to put it out there. I've not reached my potential in any of the events," she said."There's definitely goals that I have, whether that's getting on the podium at LA [in 2028] or winning in LA or trying to go through the 7,000-point barrier, but I don't really necessarily want to end there. I wouldn't like to put a limit on what that's going to be."I've definitely not reached my potential in any of the events, far from it. There's so much that I can work on."Obviously, I want to score better than I did last year. I want to get better. That's the way my mindset is between now and LA. Every single championship is a milestone towards getting on the podium. "'I'd be lying if I told you I was satisfied with the bronze'Reflecting on her performances in Poland, where she set a new Irish record score of 4,839 points, O'Connor still felt a sense of disappointment with the colour of the medal she ended with."I did go in wanting to win the competition. Now, I'm very satisfied with the score because I got better than last year," she explained."I'd be lying if I told you I was satisfied with the bronze, because I'm not. I want to win golds and when I go into the competition when I'm the shape to do it and I don't do it, it's disappointing and I don't think it's something I should get over, it's something I should make sure it doesn't happen next time. "Overall, I was happy with the score, new national record and I was dealing with things I wasn't last year, like pressure and body issues [Achilles and knee niggles], so it's exciting for outdoor season. I want to continue building."With her Achilles and reoccurring knee problems behind her for now, O'Connor is looking forward to throwing the javelin pain free and has her eyes set on breaking another record."Last season, I was throwing so well in training and had made so much progression and I threw a PB on a knee that I shouldn't have really been able to throw with [in the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo in which she won silver]."I would love to break the national record. That's been a goal of mine for a long time and I think it's very attainable."

The No. 7 UCLA softball team sweep the No. 22 Washington Huskies with a 9-1 run-rule win in their series finale in Seattle, Wash. at Husky Softball Stadium on Sunday.Senior right-handed pitcher Taylor Tinsley continued to deter the Huskies and just like in the series opener, she was the sole Bruins pitcher. Taylor had herself a day, allowing just five hits, a walk and a run, while getting seven strikeouts. The Bruins batters also saw plenty of success with six hits and nine runs.Scoreless firstUCLA started slow with no hits and no base runners in the top of the first. Washington saw a bit more success in the bottom of the inning with two hits, but they weren't able to cross home plate.Scoring in the secondIn the top of the second, the Bruins scored off of a sacrifice fly after Washington walked three of UCLA's batters. The Bruins weren't able to take advantage of the other two runners on base though, but Tinsley kept Washington scoreless to keep UCLA up by the one run.Unearned in the thirdUCLA extended their lead with two unearned runs in the top of the third, despite being credited with no hits. In the bottom of the third, Tinsley continued to get the better of the Huskies batters and UCLA headed into the fourth with a 3-0 lead.One each in the fourthIn the top of the fourth, UCLA added another run to the scoreboard with consecutive doubles sending their fourth runner of the game home. The Huskies howled back in the bottom of the fourth with their first run of the game coming off of a double of their own.Explosive fifthUCLA eyed a run-rule in the fifth and they got it with four hits, including a three-run homer by sophomore outfielder Rylee Slimp, leading to five runs.
