SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSEC baseball power rankings after Week 13 set up No. 1 vs No. 2 matchupThere were only modest changes to the SEC baseball power rankings after Week 13. Most notably, Auburn moved up to No. 2 after a series win over Mississippi State, setting up an explosive final series between No. 1 and No. 2.Tennessee was the other big riser this week after a series win against Texas. No team dropped more than two spots from last week as the standings have now solidified. Here are our power rankings:1. GeorgiaRecord: 41-11 (21-6)Last week: 1Up next: at AuburnGeorgia already has the SEC regular-season title wrapped up and leads the country in home runs. The Bulldogs' postseason ceiling will be determined by how well a pitching staff that has largely been average performs.2. AuburnRecord: 35-15 (16-11)Last week: 3Up next: GeorgiaAuburn has surged down the stretch and looks primed for a top-8 seed. But there is a word of caution: teams with Auburn's profile, with deep pitching staffs carrying a meh offense, tend to flame out early in the postseason.3. Texas A&MRecord: 37-12 (16-10)Last week: 4Up next: Mississippi StateAlready not a particularly deep team, Texas A&M has taken a hit with recent injuries to top freshmen Nico Partida and Boston Kellner.4. TexasRecord: 37-12 (16-10)Last week: 2Up next: MissouriTexas is limping a bit to the finish line. A team with stars like Dylan Volantis, Sam Cozart and Aiden Robbins should set up well for the postseason, but the Longhorns do need more out of the rest of their roster.5. Mississippi StateRecord: 38-14 (15-12)Last week: 5Up next: at Texas A&MRyan McPherson returned from injury, only to have another concern with his ankle. If he can return fully healthy for the postseason, the Bulldogs become that much more dangerous.6. FloridaRecord: 34-18 (15-12)Last week: 6Up next: LSUFlorida is set up well to host after surging late in the season. The Gators still need to get a little more out of their offense, though, to project to advance.7. ArkansasRecord: 34-18 (15-12)Last week: 8Up next: at KentuckyLike Florida, Arkansas is surging at the right time after a slow start to the season. Power production has started to come more often for a team that has strong pitching as always.8. Ole MissRecord: 34-18 (14-13)Last week: 8Up next: at AlabamaOle Miss can host with a series win over Alabama and is a sneaky pick to make it far into the postseason due to a power-based offense, two strong starting pitchers in Hunter Elliott and Cade Townsend and an elite bullpen stopper in Walker Hooks.9. AlabamaRecord: 35-17 (16-11)Last week: 9Up next: Ole MissAlabama is tracking toward a national seed, but the Crimson Tide might be a popular pick to get upset due to a statistical profile that doesn't stand out.10. TennesseeRecord: 34-18 (13-14)Last week: 12Up next: at OklahomaWhich version of Tennessee will show up any given series? The Vols have a series win over Texas and a sweep of Mississippi State, but they got swept by Vanderbilt and lost series to Kentucky, LSU and Kent State.11. OklahomaRecord: 31-18 (13-14)Last week: 10Up next: at TennesseeOklahoma's hosting dreams are likely dead barring a sweep of Tennessee, but the Sooners are still in a decent spot heading into the postseason.12. KentuckyRecord: 30-18 (12-15)Last week: 11Up next: ArkansasKentucky is back on track to make it to the NCAA Tournament despite having won just two of its nine SEC series, tied for the fewest in the SEC.13. VanderbiltRecord: 29-24 (11-16)Last week: 13Up next: South CarolinaLosing a series to Missouri was certainly not what Vanderbilt needed as the nation's longest NCAA Tournament streak is now near-certain to come to an end.14. LSURecord: 29-24 (9-18)Last week: 15Up next: FloridaTurns out a sweep of South Carolina was not proof that the Tigers had turned their season around, as they turned around and got swept by Georgia. LSU no longer has enough games left to get to an SEC record that would get it in the NCAA Tournament.15. South CarolinaRecord: 22-30 (7-20)Last week: 15Up next: at VanderbiltSouth Carolina now has its first 30-loss season in program history and its first eight-game losing streak since the JFK administration. This program needs a complete overhaul.16. MissouriRecord: 23-27 (6-21)Last week: 16Up next: at TexasBoth South Carolina and Missouri have two series wins this season, and that's a significant improvement for Missouri.Aria Gerson covers Vanderbilt athletics for The Tennessean. WWW.GBNEWS.COMFabio Wardley's camp demand answers from referee after Daniel Dubois defeatFabio Wardley's camp has voiced frustration over the refereeing during Saturday's WBO heavyweight championship bout against Daniel Dubois, which ended in an 11th-round stoppage defeat for the Ipswich fighter. The team believes official Howard Foster failed to adequately penalise Dubois for what they describe as numerous illegal strikes throughout the contest in Manchester.Wardley sent his opponent to the canvas on two occasions during the opening rounds but ultimately lost his world title in a punishing encounter. His representatives maintain that the considerable facial injuries sustained by Wardley resulted from repeated fouls, particularly multiple headbutts, which they feel warranted firmer intervention from the referee.Beyond the concerns about illegal blows, Wardley's representatives are also demanding answers regarding a specific incident during the seventh round. They want the British Boxing Board of Control to clarify why Foster intervened to halt the action just ten seconds before the bell, at a moment when Wardley had landed a series of heavy punches and appeared to have Dubois in trouble. The timing of this intervention has raised questions within the Wardley camp about whether their fighter was denied an opportunity to capitalise on his opponent's vulnerability.Interestingly, Wardley's trainer Ben Davison offered a contrasting perspective on Foster's performance in a social media statement released on Sunday."I think Howard Foster got it bang on from his terms," Davison wrote, whilst simultaneously acknowledging the contest might have been concluded sooner. The trainer admitted he had not witnessed Wardley stumble as he rose from his stool ahead of the tenth round, by which point his fighter had already been assessed by the ringside doctor and appeared more stable.Davison described the challenge of knowing precisely when to intervene as "such a difficult job" when a boxer remains responsive and continues throwing punches.Despite suffering the first defeat of his professional career, Wardley retains the option to face Dubois again thanks to a rematch clause written into the fight contract.Promoter Frank Warren confirmed this provision exists and indicated he would be willing to stage a second meeting between the two heavyweights. However, Warren urged caution regarding the timing of any potential return bout."It's up to them. It's up to the fighters," Warren told Sky Sports when discussing the possibility of a rematch."I would [like to promote a rematch] but I'd like to see them before they do that have a real good rest, recharge their batteries and everything."Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 81 Views 0 Anteprima -
