Darts star, nicknamed 'The Gambler', suspended after alleged match fixing
Danny Baggish, the 42-year-old American darts player known as 'The Gambler', has been placed under provisional suspension by the Darts Regulation Authority following allegations of match-fixing.The Guam-born thrower was suspended on Sunday 3 May pending an investigation into his conduct during the Modus Super Series, an online competition established during the coronavirus pandemic.His name now appears on the World Darts Federation's list of disciplined players and officials.The suspension came after Baggish failed to appear at the finals night of the tournament despite having qualified, with organisers citing only personal circumstances at the time.The suspension arrives less than a month after Baggish made a remarkable return to European darts following a three-year hiatus from the UK circuit.His comeback at the MSS event in Portsmouth proved highly successful, with the American finishing atop Group A after accumulating 11 victories and just four losses across his matches.A commanding 4-1 triumph over Canadian player Jeff Smith in his concluding group fixture secured him 22 points overall, matching second-placed Dawson Murschell but edging ahead on leg difference.Having earned his place at the finals night scheduled for Saturday, Baggish was notably absent when the event took place, with no detailed explanation provided initially.The American's return to the sport carried profound personal significance following the death of his 19-month-old son to cancer in late 2025.Upon defeating Smith, Baggish broke down in tears while holding up a photograph of his child in tribute.When asked about the moment in the studio afterwards, he struggled to find words: "So much.
