2026 World Cup Odds: Back England Defense To Dominate Croatia
The 2026 World Cup is off to an interesting start. It feels like Draw and Under has been the theme so far. A lot of these matches have been tight and lower scoring, which makes sense with teams still trying to feel their way into the tournament. From a betting standpoint, if you dont know these teams well, the simplest strategy has been to blindly bet Under 2.5 and the draw. That doesnt mean you should blindly bet that every match, but early in the group stage, teams know how valuable one point will be. When England takes on Croatia on Wednesday, I like the Under and I expect another low-scoring match. I think there is value in fading this Croatian attack. Sure, you can take England to win, but with draws being so prevalent so far in this World Cup, thats a dangerous wager. Instead, I think youre better off fading Croatias age, lack of transitional speed, and the lack of a consistent goal threat. The bet I like is Croatia team total Under 0.5 goals (+110). While there havent been many 0-0 draws, and there havent been many teams shut out so far, this is a trustworthy England defense under Thomas Tuchel. England defends well, controls possession and doesn't get stretched often. England did not concede a single goal throughout World Cup qualification. It brings to the table one of the best defenses in Europe, and structurally, this is a tough matchup for Croatia. One thing that could break England down is a counterattack, but Croatia doesn't really have the transitional speed to punish Three Lions. It also doesn't showcase much firepower individually. From a structural standpoint, England should be able to keep its shape, control the match, and avoid feeling truly threatened for long stretches. From a wagering standpoint, while its not a pleasant way to watch and enjoy a match, I will play Croatia to be shut out.

Antwan McCoy commits to Georgia, gives Bulldogs another big win on the defensive line
Kirby Smart and Georgia continue to stockpile talent in the trenches. This time, the Bulldogs landed a commitment from Antwan McKoy, the powerful defensive lineman from St. Pauls (N.C.) who chose Georgia after taking official visits to both Athens and South Carolina. The 6-foot-2.5, 310-pound interior defender had no shortage of options throughout his recruitment. South Carolina made a strong push down the stretch, while Miami and NC State also spent considerable time in the mix. In the end, though, Georgias relationships, culture and defensive line tradition proved too much to overcome.Coach Scott is a great coach who puts defensive linemen out every year, McKoy told Rivals. He is a great teacher and I like how he coaches his defensive linemen. Coach Smart is a great coach too. He is a winner, he has Georgia competing for championships and I know he has the program playing at a high level.McCoy had visited Athens multiple times before making his decision, and each trip reinforced why the Bulldogs had become one of his top choices. The intensity inside the program stood out.The culture, the coaching and just seeing guys show up ready to work all stood out [at Georgia], he said. I loved the energy of the coaching staff and how the team plays together.Georgias championship standard and the expectation that every practice is a battle helped separate the Bulldogs from the rest of the field, giving McCoy confidence that Athens was the best place to develop his game.Scott made McCoy a priority throughout the recruiting process, that connection ultimately played a significant role in the decision.Coach Scott treated me like family, McKoy added. McKoy is commitment No. 17 for the Bulldogs.

US official says Iran knew team would have to leave the country shortly after World Cup match
The U.S. is pushing back on complaints from Iran's national team that it was forced to leave the country immediately after its first World Cup match instead of having a day to recover in a hotel, saying that was the plan for the team all along. We were clear this was the process, Andrew Giuliani, the executive director of the White House FIFA Task Force, told The Associated Press on Tuesday.Iran coach Amir Ghalenoei said after Monday's night's 2-2 draw with New Zealand that the team had been ordered to leave the U.S. and return to its training base in Mexico only a few hours later. Ghalenoei said the team had expected to spend the night in California to maximize the normal recovery process after its opening game.Iran winger Mehdi Torabi's entry visa had also expired after the first game. Team officials confirmed Tuesday afternoon that they had secured him a new, multiple-entry visa allowing him to travel into the U.S. for future matches. This issue has been resolved, the State Department said Tuesday. As soon as we became aware of the issue, we worked to ensure that the player can participate in every game.Giuliani said during an interview broadcast Monday night on CBS News that some of the Iranian teams support staff and team officials were denied entry into the U.S. But he said that all the players and coaches had received visas. He also outlined the conditions by which the Iranian team would be able to come into the U.S. for their games. The team will be allowed to come in, match day minus one, so the day before the match. Theyll be asked to leave the day that the match wraps up, so the evening of the match. And theyll be able to do that again in Los Angeles. Theyll be able to do it again in Seattle, Giuliani said. When asked about why some support staff and team officials had been denied entry, Giuliani wouldnt go into details but referred to previous comments made by Secretary of State Marco Rubio about denying entry to people with direct ties to Irans Revolutionary Guard.Secretary Rubio said very clearly: Anybody with direct ties to the IRGC is not coming into the United States of America, and theyre not going to let the World Cup be the reason why they can come in, Giuliani said. So I think its very clear why.The Iranians World Cup cycle has been in upheaval since the U.S. and Israel began a war against Iran on Feb. 28. Iran ultimately decided to compete even after FIFA rejected its request to move its three group-stage matches out of the U.S.Iran captain Mehdi Taremi said the team endured five hours of travel and security checks during whats normally a very short trip from Tijuana to the Los Angeles area on Sunday. I think FIFA have to help us more than this, Taremi said. ___Vertuno reported from Austin, Texas.
