Red Wings Acquire Keegan Kolesar in Trade with Golden Knights
The Detroit Red Wings made another move on Wednesday, acquiring veteran forward Keegan Kolesar from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2029 NHL Draft. The trade brings a hard-nosed, physical winger to Hockeytown as Steve Yzerman continues to add experienced NHL talent ahead of the 2026-27 season.Red Wings Add Size and ToughnessKolesar, 29, appeared in all 82 games for the Golden Knights last season, recording six goals and 11 assists for 17 points while serving in a bottom-six role. He also totaled 55 penalty minutes and continued to establish himself as one of Vegas most dependable physical forwards.Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 216 pounds, Kolesar brings size, toughness, and defensive reliability to Detroits lineup. Throughout his seven NHL seasons, he has played 439 regular-season games, producing 44 goals and 76 assists while earning a reputation as an effective forechecker and penalty killer.Playoff Experience Comes to HockeytownOne of Kolesars biggest assets is his postseason experience.Since becoming a full-time NHL player, he has appeared in multiple deep playoff runs with Vegas, including the Golden Knights Stanley Cup championship in 2023. His ability to play a physical, disciplined game in high-pressure situations is something Detroit hopes will strengthen its bottom six as the team continues its push toward the playoffs.Another Busy Day for Steve YzermanThe acquisition is the latest move in what has been an active day for the Red Wings.Yzerman has prioritized adding experienced NHL players who can immediately contribute while building a roster capable of ending Detroits lengthy playoff drought. Kolesar may not be known for putting up big offensive numbers, but his physical style, leadership, and playoff pedigree make him a valuable addition to Detroits forward group.

A Finish Deserving Of A Miniseries: 4 Takeaways From Belgium's Win Over Senegal
Seattle Stadium was the venue for a thrilling and dramatic matchup between Belgium and Senegal in the Round of 32, where in the end, it was the Red Devils who took the 3-2 victory with a remarkable comeback display in added extra time. The goal, a penalty awarded five minutes after the 120th-minute mark, was indeed the latest winner in World Cup history. This was by far the most dramatic match of the tournament. It deserved its own miniseries. Goals from Habib Diarra and a work of art from Ismaila Sarr secured the goals for Senegal at the start, and it appeared that was all that was needed in order to secure the win, but in incredible fashion, Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans took it back to 2-2 in the late moments of the match, which sent the game to a dramatic finale in extra time. Thats when the UEFA side really started to find its rhythm and kept knocking at the door for a winner. And so, as we reached a certainty of penalties, Tielemans was fouled inside the box; it was confirmed by the official thanks to reviewing it on screen. Aston Villas man took it with perfection and netted the winning goal to send his team to the Round of 16. As for Senegal? A heartbreaking defeat where the Lions of Teranga will probably look back at the tape and say to themselves: how on earth did we lose that? Here are my takeaways. 1. In Football, Nothing Ever Is As It Seems For almost the entirety of the match, Senegal controlled this match. Senegals expected-goal (xG) metric was far superior (2.71 to Belgiums 0.53) and even though I am not an xG super-nerd who totally believes in the fact that it determines outcomes, I am a believer in the laws of probability. It was assumed that the West African team did more than enough to secure the victory. But assumptions, my friends, is the mother of all party crashers. You can never rely on them. Consequently, in the space of three minutes and out of nowhere, Belgium turned the game around as Lukaku and Tielemans equalized in the 83rd and 86th minute, respectively. This is the best example of World Cup action. You cant ever take your eye off it because all it takes is one attempt. 2. Tielemans-Trossard Quarrel Fueled Rally In the 72nd minute, when all seemed lost for Belgium, the Aston Villa midfielder clashed with Leandro Trossard as the duo were in the middle of a heated exchange before the hydration break to the point that they had to be separated. The Belgians were falling apart and crumbling under desperation. But in actuality, it was the fire that was needed in order to inspire the comeback. And wouldnt you know it? In the 86th minute, both combined for the all-important leveler as Trossard crossed in for a great ball as Tielemans headed it in. And in extra time, Tielemans, who had scored the opening goal for Villa in the Europa League final back in May, scored a clutch penalty to earn the precious win. Sometimes, even teammates need to be pushed against each other in order to get the best out of them. Tielemans argument with Trossard sparked something inside of him. 3. Senegal Can Only Blame Itself It was a gut-wrenching loss and one that surely broke the hearts of all Senegalese fans. And I truly feel for them. But the team has only itself to blame. At 2-0 up, with seven minutes remaining in regular time, Thiaw should have done a better job at protecting what it had and become more defense-minded. It was also losing the ball in silly moments and becoming extremely careless in possession and so it allowed cross after cross from Belgium. I think Edouard Mendy was sorely missed too because I think some of those goals could have been avoided. Unfortunately, Mory Diaw had a terrible match. Knockout football is never about how you start. Its how you finish. And Senegal forgot this precious lesson. 4. Despite Loss, Sarr Was Tremendous The 28-year-old forward/winger is so good at playing across the front line, he can pretty much go anywhere and be a nightmare against an opponent. On Wednesday, manager Pape Thiaw decided to place him as the target man with Sadio Man and liman Ndiaye on either side. It worked to perfection as Sarr capitalized on every ball to make it dangerous for the Belgian defensive line, whilst getting on the end of any cross that came his way. The start of the match saw the Lions of Teranga with a lot of possession and making some great opportunities, including in the 14th minute when Ismala Sarrs effort hit the post and then forced Thibaut Courtois to clear the ball. But Sarr kept going as his header set up the first goal. His second? To me, it was a thing of beauty as he received a beautiful ball from Moussa Niakhat and with a lovely first touch and finish (memories of Dennis Bergkamps goal against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup quarterfinals) he made it 2-0. It was a moment of perfection. What a match from Sarr, who became his countrys all-time scorer at this tournament with four goals.

Jaylen Brown traded from Celtics to 76ers: Ripple effect will alter fantasy basketball landscape
One of the summer's most anticipated dominoes finally fell on Wednesday. Jaylen Brown is headed to Philadelphia in exchange for Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks. Brown had the best statistical season of his career in Boston last year (28.7 points, 6.9 boards, 5.1 assists) as the team's unquestioned No. 1 option with Jayson Tatum sidelined for most of the campaign. It was an MVP-caliber season! So seeing Brown, a former Finals MVP in his prime, getting flipped for a 36-year-old George says a lot. But that tells us everything about Brown's market and Boston's willingness to trade him to a divisional rival. Philly gave up notable draft picks to get the deal done, but it's clear Boston was ready to move on from their All-NBA player star. Trading with a division rival with this caliber of player makes it even wilder. Now Brown and George step into a very different environment with fantasy implications to talk about.Philadelphia 76ersJaylen BrownComing off his most productive season, it's a downgrade for his fantasy value because he goes from a free-flowing, 3-point-centric offense with a 30-plus percent usage rate to a team where he'll have to divvy up touches with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. The good news is, Brown is now the best player on this team, so I'd expect he'll get fed plenty. Just don't expect him to put up the numbers he did last season. Rather, a 25-6-3 line is certainly attainable. I'd put Brown near the third-or-fourth rounds in fantasy next season.Tyrese MaxeyMaxey took a massive leap as the Sixers' star player last season, earning All-NBA honors. Having a dynamic three-level scorer on the wing will help his assist potential and efficiency, but I suspect there will be some drop-off. Brown is a different tier above George at this point, so he'll absorb more usage and shot volume at Maxey's expense. I'm not sure if Maxey is a mid-first-rounder after this news.VJ EdgecombeThis is a significant blow for Edgecombe's stock. With Embiid healthy, he'll be the fourth option offensively, which is far from ideal heading into his sophomore season. The minutes are safe and he'll still rack up plenty of steals and counting stats. However, it's more about his ceiling getting capped as a result of another star entering the situation.Joel EmbiidAdding Brown probably puts less emphasis on the need for Embiid to play every night or heavy minutes. Something has to give, though, and hopefully this means Embiid will be near the rim more, since Brown operates in the mid-range. The Sixers need to lighten his load to play deep into the playoffs, so this move actually benefits Embiid. His injury profile is too extensive to take him before the fifth round, but getting a high-volume scorer like Brown can help Embiid's efficiency.Boston CelticsPaul GeorgeI love this for George's value. He gets out of Philly, a team where he was likely going to get passed up by Edgecombe in the pecking order, to a Boston team that just lost 30% of its team's usage. George will be a strong complementary piece to Jayson Tatum and Derrick White in the starting unit. Assuming he's healthy, there could be a comeback in the works from a fantasy perspective. I'm not sure I'm willing to pay it at cost but PG is still a decent fantasy asset for points, middling rebounds and assists, 3s and steals.Jayson TatumGets a boost. George is not Brown and won't demand as much of the share of touches and shot volume. Tatum is a first-round pick, especially with him expected to be even closer to 100% in the fall. Derrick White and Payton PritchardBoth guys will get more opportunities as the offense opens up without Brown. White remains a strong fourth-round option while Pritchard is a target around the seventh or eighth rounds. Final thoughtsGeorge is a winner, but this blockbuster deal depresses the fantasy value of most of the starters in Philly. Edgecombe the most. Still, Maxey is in a good spot to be a top-15 player and Brown is settling in as a top-40 guy in 9-cat, top-25 in High Score. Embiid's health will always be the main factor in his fantasy performance.

The Tampa Bay Rays star drilled a deep shot to left field in the opening inning of their matchup with the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday afternoon. That put the Rays up instantly, and marked the sixth straight game in which Caminero has hit a home run.JUNIOR CAMINERO HOMERS IN A 6TH STRAIGHT GAME! pic.twitter.com/FC638jJTh7 MLB (@MLB) July 1, 2026Caminero, 22, is now the youngest player since at least 1900 to hit a home run in six straight games, according to MLB.coms Sarah Langs. That also matched a Rays franchise record. Previously, Ken Griffey Jr. was the youngest player in the modern era of baseball to homer in six straight games, though he did so when he was 23. Willie Mays and Nolan Arenado each pulled that feat off at 24, too.By comparison, three players in MLB history have hit a home run in eight consecutive games to set the league record. Griffey did so most recently in 1993 with the Seattle Mariners, following Don Mattingly in 1987 and Dale Long in 1956.Camineros home run streak started back on June 25, also against the Royals. He hit three home runs in that 13-2 blowout win alone as the Rays combined for 8 1/3 no-hit innings. Caminero then hit one in each of the Rays wins over the Diamondbacks as they swept Arizona, and then got one in their 10-4 win over the Rays to open the new series in Kansas City on Tuesday night.Caminero now has 24 home runs this season, too, which is the fifth-most in the league. Philadelphia Phillies star Kyle Schwarber leads the way there with 30 home runs so far this summer. Caminero, now in his fourth season with the Rays, carried a .294 batting average with 52 RBI into Wednesdays contest, too.Tampa Bay, thanks largely to Camineros hot streak at the plate, holds a 49-33 record and leads the AL East race. Theyve won six straight, too. This post will be updated with more information shortly.

Nationals' Cade Cavalli Apologizes For 'Sit Down, Boy' Taunt to Red Sox's Willson Contreras
Washington Nationals pitcher Cade Cavalli apologized Wednesday for shouting "sit down, boy!" at Boston Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras while instigating a benches clearing scrum a night earlier. "Im extremely torn up about the way that things were perceived," Cavalli said before the Nationals beat the Red Sox 10-2. "Obviously, there was no ill intention behind that." Cavalli shouted at Contreras after striking him out looking with a full-count pitch in the fourth inning of the Nationals 8-1 victory over the Red Sox. The term "boy" has a racist history in the United States. Contreras, who is Venezuelan, demurred when asked after the game if he felt there was a racial component to Cavallis word choice. "My teammates know me, my family knows me, this organization knows me," Cavalli said. "I couldnt sleep because of it. It hurt my heart, knowing that, if theres a 13-year-old Black kid in D.C. that sees that that looked up to me and thinks that he perceived it in a way that wasnt intended the way that it came out, and then hes not looking up to me anymore that hurts my heart." When asked, he said he understands the meaning behind the word used. "Theres a history behind that word, and thats just something that as a competitor, like in football or basketball, playing wiffle ball with my brother, you dont understand it," Cavalli said. "And then it gets perceived in a way that was not my intention, and then you learn from that. Itll never happen again." The 27-year-old right-hander said he didnt realize the public outcry on social media until he got back to his hotel room. "I looked at my phone, and I saw what people were saying about me. Saw how torn up my wife was. It hurt my heart," he said. "I couldnt believe it. I really couldnt. Because I know that people know me, and they know my character, and thats not me. So, it was hard. I truly didnt sleep last night." Contreras was walking back to the dugout after striking out and yelled back at Cavalli: "Are you talking to me?" A few words were exchanged, and he charged the mound. He was stopped before he got to the pitcher. He tried to throw his helmet over a group of players at the righty. Things settled down quickly after that, though the brief dustup ended with Contreras, Boston interim manager Chad Tracy, Red Sox outfielder Nate Eaton and Washington pitcher Miles Mikolas being ejected. Cavalli said he hadnt apologized to Contreras yet, but he hopes he hears his explanation. "I have not reached out to him. I know that were both competitors, I hope that he hears this and he understands that was not what was intended at all," Cavalli said. "I think he knows that. But if I see him, I want to make sure that he knows that." Reporting by the Associated Press.
