    Logano dominates at North Wilkesboro
Three-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Joey Logano came into the first NASCAR Cup series points race in 30 years at the historic North Wilkesboro Speedway looking to break out of his 45-race winless slump. When the checkered flag waved over Loganos winning No. 22 Team Penske Ford Mustang in Sundays Window World 450, the cheering sold out crowd had witnessed an old-fashioned butt whippin as Logano lapped all but five cars. He led a career record of 323 laps to earn his first victory of 2026 and 38th NASCAR Cup series win.Logano started his amazing charge through the field from 11th place. By the end of the first stage, the Connecticut native was in third place just behind stage winner Ty Gibbs. Logano seized the lead in the second stage and never looked back. With the renewed skills of a three-time NASCAR champion, Logano slashed his fast No.22 Shell-Pennzoil Mustang through the field, easily winning the second stage of the 450-lap race and lapping most of the 36-car field. When the green flag waved starting the third and final stage, Logano was briefly challenged by NASCAR Cup points leader Denny Hamlin.Hamlins No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing machine had good short-run speed compared to Loganos car which had superior long-run speed. So, the 45-year-old Virginia native knew if he was going to challenge Loganos fast Mustang, it had to be early in the stage.Hamlin got to within a few feet of Loganos rear bumper, but as the run went on Loganos better long-run speed combined with his uncanny ability to slice through traffic helped him pull away from the brief challenge of Hamlin to win by about 10 car lengths at the checkered flag. After an incredible victory burnout making several doughnuts on the starting line, Logano continued the smoky burnout completely around the track, picking up his son Hudson to complete to burnout back to the cheering crowd at starting line.An elated Logano commented on his huge win, A win anywhere at this point would have sounded great. But coming here to North Wilkesboro is awesome. What a great carPaul Wolfe (crew chief) what a great car he put together for us today. Just able to execute a smooth race, everyone on pit road did a good job, the engine of Roush-Yates was good. It feels good to get back in victory lane again, its been a tough year. Getting the Shell-Pennzoil Mustang doing some big smoky doughnuts around this place felt really good. This is a special place.Loganos huge win and points earned pushed him into 15th place in the points standings now 49 points ahead of the of cutline to qualify for the 2026 Chase to the NASCAR Cup Series championship with five races remaining before the start of the playoffs.Finishing behind winner Logano and second-place Hamlin was Chase Briscoe in third, with Shane Van Gisbergen and Ty Gibbs rounding out the top five. The NASCAR teams head to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for next weekends annual Brickyard 400 on the Worlds Most Famous Racetrack.

Spain's Lamine Yamal Has 'Completed Football' At 19 After Winning World Cup
Lamine Yamal received glowing praise after helping Spain beat Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the World Cup final. The 19-year-old produced another composed display on football's biggest stage, with former England goalkeeper Joe Hart claiming the Barcelona winger had "completed football" after adding a World Cup winners' medal to his European Championship triumph. The Passing Of The Torch In New York In a moment that will be etched into football history, Yamal embraced a tearful Lionel Messi at the conclusion of the World Cup final at the New York New Jersey Stadium. The imagery was impossible to ignore; a passing of the torch from a 39-year-old icon to a 19-year-old phenom. Yamal, sporting the Barcelona number 10 shirt for his club, offered consolation to the man who arguably defined that very jersey. The 1-0 victory for La Roja, secured by Ferran Torres in the 106th minute, ensured that Yamal became the youngest player ever to win both the European Championship and the World Cup. At just 19 years and six days old, he has achieved what many legends fail to accomplish in a lifetime. Hart, De la Fuente Praise Teenage Star Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart singled out Yamal's composure after the teenager was repeatedly challenged by Argentina throughout the final. The BBC Sport pundit said: "Not only did Lamine Yamal not react. He stood up to it. He was not rattled and he did not back down. He had the entire team trying to smash him. He just stayed real cool. It was real standout performance from him. Lamine Yamal is 19 years old. What a beautiful day for him. He's 19 and has completed football." Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente also praised the youngster's contribution after the victory. "He has played great football that will help him to mature and be even a greater footballer than he already is. He really sacrificed for the collective good. This is very important in my squad. In my opinion he played a great World Cup." Spains Perfect Starter Despite entering the competition with concerns over a hamstring injury, Yamal started seven of Spain's eight games at the 2026 World Cup and won every single one of them. That lingering issue appeared to hamper his usual attacking output, resulting in a somewhat underwhelming personal campaign with just one goal. Ultimately, his quieter tournament allowed teammate Pau Cubars to pip him to the FIFA Young Player award. Yet, Yamal's influence on the team's historic success was absolute. Added to his six starts at Euro 2024, he has now won all 13 of his major tournament starts. This flawless run is the longest perfect streak for any European starter in major tournament history. His ability to balance individual brilliance with defensive discipline and tactical awareness has made him the undisputed jewel in Spains crown as they return to the summit of world football. Yamal Looks To Build On Historic Success Yamal will now return to club football having reinforced his status as one of the game's brightest young stars after adding a World Cup winners' medal to his European Championship triumph. At just 19, the Barcelona winger has already amassed a remarkable trophy haul. With De la Fuente continuing to place his faith in him, Yamal looks set to remain at the heart of Spain's new era as the world champions aim to build on their latest success.

Hurston Waldrep being evaluated with right arm discomfort
ATLANTA, GEORGIA - JULY 2: Hurston Waldrep #64 of the Atlanta Braves pitches during the first inning against the St. Louis Cardinals at Truist Park on July 2, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Todd Kirkland/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesYesterday, former Atlanta Braves starting pitcher top prospect Hurston Waldrep was removed from his start with the Gwinnett Stripers after his velocity dropped three-dozen pitches into his start. The severity of the issue is not yet known.Waldrep was thrust into action almost one year ago with Atlanta and took advantage of his opportunity, making nine starts, and gave the Braves optimism about his viability as a starting pitcher option in 2026.Unfortunately, Waldrep had loose bodies removed in his elbow before the start of the regular season and was on the 60-day IL until June. He returned to big league action in late June and made three appearances with Atlanta including two starts the last of which saw him allow seven runs in 3.1 innings. Waldrep was optioned back to Triple-A on July 10.The set-back for Waldrep adds more uncertainty to the teams starting rotation depth which is currently missing Spencer Strider, Spencer Schwellenbach, Joey Wentz and AJ Smith-Shawver. Smith-Shawver may be close to returning after recovering from Tommy John surgery last year. Wentz has been lost for the season and Strider and Schwellenbach are both facing uncertain return times. With prospects JR Ritchie and Owen Murphy unable to establish themselves in their first season of limited big league action, Atlanta may now have one less option depending on the outcome of Waldreps setback. If Atlanta looks to add a starting pitcher via trade before the deadline on August 3, 2026, heres a list of some of the players that could make sense for Atlanta.

FIFA Investigates Post-Match Scuffle Between Argentina And Spain Players
FIFA opened an investigation Monday after Spains celebrations on beating Argentina in the World Cup final took an ugly turn when players briefly clashed on the field. Video replays showed several players involved in a scuffle, including Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes. He appeared to shove Spain's Eric Garcia by the throat. When Spain substitute Gavi jumped in to intervene, Paredes pushed him to the ground. Spain captain Rodri also seemed to be hit in the stomach by Argentina defender Nahuel Molina as he ran past to join teammates celebrating the title win. Molina later crowded Rodri, who was the target of a verbal confrontation by his former Manchester City teammate Nicolas Otamendi. Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni and other players rushed in to deescalate the situation. FIFA said in a statement its "disciplinary committee has appointed a Disciplinary and Ethics Prosecutor to investigate potential breaches of the (FIFA disciplinary code) with regard to the post-match incidents." The brief statement gave no timetable for an investigation and did not name Paredes, who was not shown a red card after the game yet could face a suspension. Spain needed extra time to win Sundays final 1-0 after Argentina was reduced to 10 men. Enzo Fernandez was sent off with a second yellow card in stoppage time at the end of 90 minutes. The Argentina players stood facing their fans, with their backs to the podium, when Spains squad lifted the trophy. It was an unusual show of disrespect to the new champions, who had given their opponents a guard of honor to collect their medals. Reporting by the Associated Press.

Power surge: Guardians hit 7 homers against Twins, 1 short of franchise record
CLEVELAND (AP) The Cleveland Guardians hit seven home runs against the Minnesota Twins on Monday night, one short of the franchise record and matching the record for a home game.It was an unlikely power surge for the Guardians, who came into the game tied with Tampa Bay for the third-fewest homers in the majors with 94. Petey Halpin and Rhys Hoskins each went deep twice. It is the sixth time in the franchise's 125 seasons they have gone deep at least seven times in a game. Cleveland hit eight home runs at Milwaukee on April 25, 1997, and at Seattle on July 16, 2004.Cleveland also homered seven times at home on April 30, 2013 against the Philadelphia Phillies. It's the fourth time this season a team has hit at least seven homers. The Chicago Cubs had eight in their 23-3 win over the San Diego Padres on July 1.Patrick Bailey hit the seventh homer for Cleveland, a solo shot to center off Woo-Suk Go to lead off the seventh inning.Brayan Rocchio and Travis Bazzana also connected as Guardians went deep six times in the first four innings against All-Star Twins starter Joe Ryan. According to Sportradar, it was the first time since at least 1974 that Cleveland had six homers in the first four innings. It had five on July 22, 1994, against the Chicago White Sox and on Aug. 15, 2019, at the New York Yankees. It was the 24th time that has happened in the majors during that span. The last was by the New York Yankees on Aug. 27, 2025, against the Washington Nationals.Halpin and Hoskins both game into the game batting under .200. Halpin, who was batting .194, hit his first two homers in the majors with drives to right-center in the second and fourth innings.Hoskins whose average dropped to .177 after he went 1 for 6 in a weekend series against Pittsburgh had solo shots to left in the first and third innings. It was the first time two Cleveland players homered at least twice in a game since Jos Ramrez and Carlos Santana did it in 2019 against the Yankees. The six homers allowed by Ryan set a franchise record even going back to the Twins' days as the Washington Senators. The most the right-hander had previously given up in a game was five on two occasions, most recently in 2023 at Atlanta.Ryan allowed a career-high 10 hits. He worked four innings and gave up eight runs, the second-most in his six-year career.Rocchio got things going with a two-run homer to left in the first inning. Bazzana went deep for the second time in three games with a drive to right-center in the second.___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb
