While most teams know who will be the starting RB come Week 1, others will be figuring that out in heated competitions. However, that also may have cleared the runway for Bhayshul Tuten to showcase his development entering his second year.Head coach Liam Coen certainly likes what hes seeing from Tuten, which he expressed in a recent interview with Peter Schrager.Tuten I thought had a really good spring. You know, Year 1 coming from Virginia Tech, and really was North Carolina Central to Virginia Tech. So, he had a little bit of a learning curve too, with the protections and a lot of the things that come with playing running back as a rookie, Coen said.Now its more so, he was so conscientious about ball security last year and doing right. Okay, now Tuten, you got it. You understand it more. Now just go be you. Go do what got you here. Go be special, thats who you are. Were definitely expecting Tuten to have a big year for us.Rodriguez will make his case for the starting job once he gets back on the field during training camp, but his limited pass-catching skills will always keep him in an early-down role at best. LeQuint Allen Jr. is in a similar situation, only its his receiving work thats far more effective than his ability as a runner. Thats why Tuten, who flashed explosiveness and a nose for the end zone (seven touchdowns as a rookie) remains the most enticing fantasy pick in this backfield. Hes one of my favorite breakout running backs to target this year.Who starts for the Seahawks?The Seahawks allowed the Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III to leave in free agency and their No. 2 back Zach Charbonnet is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in January. With Charbonnet not likely to return until the second half of the season, that leaves the door wide open for someone else to emerge in Seattle.The obvious answer is first-round rookie Jadarian Price, but many people covering the team continue to insist it will be a committee that also features George Holani and Emanuel Wilson. Holani fared well when stepping in as the change-of-pace option during Charbonnets absence last year and Wilson had strong relief appearances for the Packers before signing with the Seahawks in free agency.However, the investment in Price gives him a leg up on the competition against Holani and Wilson, who profile as quality depth pieces. While all three players will likely see touches early in the season, the only question in my mind is how big Prices lead-back role will be in Week 1.The Seahawks finished top-10 in almost every significant rushing statistic last season, in part thanks to having the fourth-most rushing attempts on the year. Even with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak leaving for Las Vegas, the teams approach will remain the same trying to control games on the ground and with strong defense.Even if Price shares the load with Holani and Wilson, hes still a value at his current ADP as the RB26 in the sixth round. Dont be surprised if a few training camp/preseason highlights push his stock up a round or two over the next month. Who starts for the Steelers?Pittsburgh might end up being the most difficult backfield to decipher this summer, with incumbent Jaylen Warren battling newcomer Rico Dowdle for top spot.At this point, it seems unlikely Warren will ever get an opportunity to be a higher-volume option, since the team continues to find overqualified running mates for him to share the workload with. Last year, it was Kenny Gainwell turning this into a frustrating fantasy tandem. With Gainwell gone, Dowdle arrives as an even bigger threat to Warrens touches.Thats because Dowdle has made a name for himself over the last two seasons, rising up depth charts and capturing the starting job. That resulted in back-to-back 1,300-yard campaigns between Dallas and Carolina, including fantasy finishes of RB26 in 2024 and RB20 in 2025. However, the highlights were even better, with Dowdle posting a pair of 200-yard games for the Panthers last year.Its also worth noting, Dowdle has shared history with Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy, dating back to their time with the Cowboys. Whether thats enough to push him ahead of Warren remains to be seen.The most likely outcome is another split backfield where both Warren and Dowdle have their fantasy ceilings capped as RB3/flex options. But if someone can pull ahead, there is value here given their reasonable ADPs as the RB27 and RB31.Who starts for the Commanders?The Commanders backfield looks a lot different entering this season, with veteran Rachaad White and sixth-round rookie Kaytron Allen joining last years seventh-round pick Jacory Croskey-Merritt.It took a while for JCM to get going as a rookie, but he finished the season strong by topping 95 scrimmage yards twice during the fantasy playoffs and scoring four touchdowns during that span. It was good enough to make him the RB10 in fppg during the most important time on the fantasy calendar.Now, the coaching staff has made it clear that he needs to prove himself in the passing game if he wants to be the lead back in Washington. White excels in that area, which will certainly earn him a role in the offense. Meanwhile, Allen fits the power-back mold that Chris Rodriguez Jr. occupied in this committee in 2025.As it stands, Croskey-Merritt is the most exciting option with the highest ceiling after flashing last year. White has the safest role as a proven pass-catcher and short-term replacement starter, but hes struggled to produce as a lead back for long stretches. At worst, he should offer RB3/flex value given his receiving skills. Allen is the long-shot dart throw in the late rounds, who could turn into a TD-or-bust RB3 if JCM falters.However, this competition seems completely up in the air entering training camp and the ADPs of all three backs reflect the uncertainty. Last season, the Cowboys backfield featured similar ADPs with all their backs going off the board outside of the top-100 picks, as well. Personally, I regret not capitalizing more on that value, even if it meant drafting two teammates in the late rounds in hopes of hitting on the right one which for Dallas was Javonte Williams. Dont make the same mistake this season.The odds of turning your picks in Round 10 or later into meaningful fantasy starters are already slim, so dont hesitate to use a couple of those selections to stash Commanders RBs in an effort to land their 2026 starter. Drafting Croskey-Merritt and White back-to-back in the late rounds is something Ive done on several rosters.Which camp battles will produce new No. 2 RBs?Lead-back battles arent the only training camp competitions fantasy managers should have a close eye on. Theres plenty of value to be unearthed by figuring out who will be the immediate backups and position themselves to replace an injured starter during the season (or perhaps even offer weekly flex production in a complementary role).Several teams will be sorting out those spots in the coming weeks, including the Ravens, Cowboys, Lions, Packers, Colts, Chiefs, Dolphins, Jets and 49ers.In Baltimore, Justice Hill is the incumbent veteran and reliable pass-catching option, but 6-foot-3, 232-pound rookie Adam Randall has the build to be a more direct replacement if Derrick Henry misses any time.In Dallas, Jaydon Blue, Phil Mafah and Malik Davis are vying for the coveted spot behind Javonte Williams. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer praised Blue for responding to their exit interview discussions following his disappointing debut campaign and beat writers have identified the sophomore back as someone whos shown up in much better form.In Detroit, Isiah Pacheco was believed to be the new backup behind Jahmyr Gibbs, but The Athletic recently suggested Sione Vaki is a potential threat to move into that spot with a strong summer.In Green Bay, Josh Jacobs off-field issues have put even more importance on identifying who the next man up would be, with oft-injured MarShawn Lloyd being the more exciting option over Chris Brooks.In Indianapolis, the Colts are in the midst of a true battle between sophomore DJ Giddens, who struggled in his first season, and rookie Seth McGowan. With Jonathan Taylor reportedly looking for a contract extension, this will be a situation to monitor closely.In Kansas City, there is a ton of excitement about the arrival of Kenneth Walker III, but lets not forget about his injury history. If Walker were to miss time again, the Chiefs will either turn to rookie Emmett Johnson or veteran backup Emari Demercado.In Miami, Jaylen Wright held the No. 2 slot last season behind DeVon Achane, but all indications point to the bigger Ollie Gordon II making a strong push to usurp him on the depth chart.In New York, Breece Hall signed a new deal to stay with the Jets. Now, we need to find out who will be his main backup with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis going head-to-head for that role.In San Francisco, we might see the most important battle of all given Christian McCaffreys age and massive 2025 workload. Jordan James and rookie Kaelon Black are the top contenders to become Kyle Shanahans starter if CMC breaks down.Which starters coming off season-ending injuries are healthy?Chasing value in potential fantasy stars being drafted lower than usual due to injury discounts can be a very dangerous game to play. Fortunately, it seems like we have a couple sophomore backs making great strides in their recoveries.Cam Skattebos rookie season ended with the kind of injury you never want to see a replay of, which included a fractured tibia and dislocated ankle in October. He was back on the field in limited fashion during OTAs and is expected to be available in Week 1, as long as he doesnt hurt himself while backflipping his way through the offseason.Prior to getting hurt, Skattebo averaged the seventh-most fantasy points per contest among running backs in half-PPR scoring (17.4 fppg) over his final six healthy outings. That makes him an intriguing fantasy RB2, assuming his physical running style doesnt put him on the trainers table again.Quinshon Judkins is the other second-year back fighting to get healthy for Week 1. Though his fractured fibula and dislocated ankle occurred in Week 16, Judkins appears to be ahead of Skattebo in his rehab.Though the Browns are often an afterthought for fantasy, the arrival of head coach Todd Monken should make this unit a little more interesting in 2026 and a healthy Judkins could be a driving force. The 22-year-old finished as the RB22 in fantasy points per game (11.2 fppg) despite dealing with injuries and playing in a subpar Cleveland offense that lacked quality quarterback play most of the year. However in the five games before he suffered his first injury (shoulder), the second-rounder was the RB14 (14.6 fppg).Much like Skattebo, Judkins is a second-year breakout candidate and possible star who is being undervalued solely due to his injury.Will Jonathon Brooks push to start in Carolina?Brooks is trying to write an incredible comeback story, by overcoming a pair of ACL tears in 2023 and 2024 that have delayed his launch in the NFL.Fantasy managers are always trying to find the next breakout or sleeper, especially at running back, which has helped fuel the excitement over Brooks this offseason.He looks like the guy I remember, #Panthers coach Dave Canales on running back Jonathon Brooks. Alex Zietlow (@alexzietlow05) July 23, 2026However, lets make sure to keep our expectations in check for the 23-year-old back as his ADP continues to rise now pushing into the ninth round as the RB37.Recapturing his pre-injury form is far from guaranteed and it should be considered a win if hes just able to secure a consistent role alongside Chuba Hubbard. A scenario where he passes Hubbard and emerges as a clear lead back though not impossible would be worthy of a Hollywood script.Were all rooting for Brooks and Im happy to target him at his current ADP, but I fear well see that move even higher as hype builds over the summer. For now, he should be treated as a high-upside stash and potential RB3/flex option, with a best-case scenario resulting in fantasy RB2 numbers if he earns the starting job at some point.Which RBs are candidates to be cut?Arizona has amassed quite the collection of running backs, adding first-round star Jeremiyah Love and veteran backup Tyler Allgeier to a group that already included James Conner and Trey Benson.It seems nearly impossible that all those backs will remain on the roster heading into Week 1 and whoever ends up as the odd man out between Conner and Benson will be highly coveted by other teams. Just imagine someone like Conner joining the Lions backfield in the role formerly occupied by David Montgomery.We also have younger backs who have struggled to carve out touches in their current backfields and might need a change of scenery. Am I the only one thinking about Kaleb Johnson after that description? Fantasy managers should hope the 22-year-old (turns 23 in August) gets traded or cut, leading to a fresh start in a new offense.Getting ahead of those potential moves can prevent you from being blindsided when released players sign with new clubs and complicate the fantasy outlooks for that RB depth chart.

The Boston Celtics have made a habit out of extending players this summer who were largely unheralded coming into the NBA. First, they agreed to a 4-year, $56 million contract extension with former second-round pick Neemias Queta to start July. A few days later, they signed former undrafted guard Ron Harper Jr. to a 3-year, $9 million contract extension. And most recently, the C's extended former second-round pick Jordan Walsh with a 3-year, $15 million contract extension, per NBA insider Chris Haynes.In a time of frequent player movement and punitive taxes, there's a lot of value in low-cost contracts with high upside in today's NBA. Walsh's new deal could be an example of that, as the lengthy wing is just 22 years old with 3 years of professional experience under his belt. The Dallas native averaged a career-high 17.8 minutes per outing last season and even started in 25 games (he only started in 2 games over the course of his first 2 seasons).Previously, the Celtics picked up Walsh's team option for the 2026-27 campaign, granting him $2.4 million. Now he'll have that money in the bank along with his aforementioned extension that includes 2 years of fully-guaranteed money and a third-year team option for the 2029-2030 season, via NBA insider Mike Scotto.Walsh is primarily known as a defensive specialist, but he provided flashes of offensive talent last season, averaging nearly 10 points per game in December."I'm starting to see Jordan playing like a grown man," former Celtics star Jaylen Brown said during that stretch. Some of his responses will certainly make Big Blue Nation excited about this upcoming season.The first question presented was an overview question just asking for his biggest takeaway after being at a couple practices so far this summer. Well, my biggest takeaway, and its noticeable because its kind of comparing to last year, this team seems to love practice, said Givens. There were times last year when I had to question whether or not they wanted to be here at practice, but it seems like, and were only in July, but it seems like these guys really want to work. They have enjoyed working. Theyve gotten better.That response is the dream answer for a lot of fans, just hearing that the guys truly want to give it their all and represent the program.Givens went on to share some thoughts on the backcourt.Whats really nice about Zoom is that he wants to be a leader. That is such a refreshing thing to hear, because last year that wasnt necessarily the case. Givens even said, Last year there seemed to be nobody who wanted that responsibility. He continued to praise Diallo and his leadership by saying he likes that we have a general on the floor, and a coach that the other guys gather around and want to be the leader.Givens thoughts on Alex Wilkins were covered with a blanket statement, stating that he has been really impressed and finds so many ways to score. Hes not necessarily the best shooter. He might not be the quickest guy, but hes crafty, he gets to his spots on the floor that he knows he can be effective, and already Im seeing him being a guy who can find many, many different ways to get buckets.When asked who he has been surprised by the most this summer, he named Justin McBride, who has been sidelined recently due to an illness but should be good to go now. Givens said that he wasnt sure what to expect with him, but hes quicker than he thought, a better jumper than he thought. Bissell secures Bristol City returnBristol City have completed the signing of midfielder Emma Bissell on a free transfer.The Robins announced news of the deal via a post on their official club website this afternoon.The 24-year-old versatile midfielder joins Bristol City after leaving former club Charlton Athletic earlier this summer. Bissell was a promotion-winner with The Addicks last season after they defeated Leicester City on penalties in a play-off tie.Bissell returns to Bristol City for a second spell. She previously turned out for the club in the 2020/2021 season. She made 18 appearances for The Robins in all competitions before spending time combining football with her studies in the United States.In addition to her spells with Bristol City and Charlton Athletic, Bissell has also turned out for Manchester City and Everton in her career to date.On the international stage, Bissell represented England in her youth. Dakar was awarded the Youth Olympic Games in 2018, before agreeing with the IOC to postpone the event from 2022 to 2026 to allow for more sustainable planning [Getty Images]When the Youth Olympics begin in Senegal in 100 days' time, it will mark a first on African soil.For all the global icons and champions the continent has provided across events such as athletics, football and boxing, it has never hosted an Olympic competition.Dakar 2026, which gets under way on 31 October, is set to change that."It is monumental," International Olympic Committee (IOC) official Christophe Dubi told BBC Sport Africa."Africa has hosted many international competitions, but this is the first time we have anything labelled with the Olympic rings."The entire continent will be celebrating with Dakar hosting."Dakar was chosen as host city in October 2018 and the Games, initially planned for 2022, were postponed until this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, allowing more time for planning.It will be held at venues across the Senegalese capital, as well as in the towns of Diamniadio and Saly.Thierno Cisse, deputy chief operating officer of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the Games, says preparations are firmly on track - and that the entire country is aware of the responsibility which comes with being Africa's first Olympic host."We know we are going to be ambassadors for Africa during this period," he told the BBC."It's really important for us as a country to proudly represents the whole continent and show that Africa has high standards."Demographically relevantAfrica is the world's youngest continent, with 70% of people living in sub-Saharan regions under 30 according to the United Nations."The symbolism of having Africa hosting the sports community is very strong," Dubi said."This is a very important first step." However, local residents hope Dakar 2026 will bring critical issues facing young people in the country to the fore.A recent report by Senegal's statistics and demographics agency put the rate of unemployment among those aged 15-34 at over 27%, owing largely to a lack of stable opportunities in the domestic job market.There has also been a crisis of irregular migration in recent years, with many young people risking their lives to seek better prospects abroad."We are in a country where the rate of joblessness is very high," Dakar resident Issa Diao told BBC Sport Africa."So when we have this kind of event here, it will help people to get jobs."A focus on legacyIn a bid to draw global attention to the Games, organisers have appointed high-profile figures including Senegal football captain Kalidou Koulibaly, influencer Khaby Lame and French actor Omar Sy as ambassadors.The IOC has also named 36 athlete role models to provide mentorship to young athletes at the Games.Preparations have included engagement programmes, and participation at community level will be promoted.A scheme to train more than 400 young Africans in areas such as event operations, logistics, technology, accreditation and venue management was also launched by the IOC last year."In our recruitment strategy, we decided to open the gates to the whole continent," Cisse said."We have more than 30 countries represented from all around the world, but mainly from Africa as youth volunteers."One of the distinctive elements of Dakar 2026 will be the debut of a youth refugee team, something which was first introduced in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.The IOC, working with the Olympic Refuge Foundation and international federations, has identified young refugee athletes through trials and development programmes in East Africa, and those selected for the Games will also receive education and wellbeing support."It sends a very clear message," Dubi said."Even for people who have lived through extremely difficult circumstances, there is still hope. There is a place where you are welcomed."Building for the futureSenegal's first skate park in the Ngor neighborhood of Dakar is a major hangout for young riders who hope to represent their country at the Games [Getty Images]The Youth Olympics are smaller in scale compared to its senior counterpart, but will still feature around 2,700 athletes competing in 25 sports.Ten non-competitive engagement sports, aimed at encouraging participation among local youngsters, will also be staged.Rather than building venues with limited post-Games use, organisers have focused on restoring and preserving existing sites."Two magnificent locations have been rescued from the centre of Dakar," Dubi said."They could easily have been sold for housing, but instead they've been saved for sport. This is about thinking beyond the Games."However, hosting an event of this scale also raises difficult questions around cost.Senegal reportedly spent around $270m to build the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Diamniadio, which will host the opening ceremony, and, according to the country's sports ministry, could spend an estimated $60m to organise the Games.These figures could not be confirmed by the LOC and the IOC when the BBC reached out to them.Both parties say the success of Dakar 2026 will not only be judged by what happens during the two weeks of competition, but by what remains long after the Olympic flame is extinguished."The Games are opening a whole range of new sports that are not famous here," said Cisse."Maybe we'll be able to say in 20 years from now that some champions were discovered."'A continental celebration'Before becoming IOC president, Kirsty Coventry was the chair of the coordination commission for Dakar 2026 [Getty Images]While organisers are eager to frame Dakar 2026 as a continental moment rather than a purely national one, the presence of African leadership at the highest level of the IOC also reinforces the sense that it has the potential to shift how the continent is viewed globally.Last year, Kirsty Coventry became the first female - and African - president of the IOC, and the Zimbabwean's tenure will include overseeing the landmark event."We are very proud that an African woman is representing the continent on the biggest stage," said Cisse."It's also a special link for us because she was the president of the coordination commission for the Dakar Games before being elected president. "I know she has a special bond with the Games and holds it in very high esteem."The IOC envisions Dakar 2026 to become not just a sporting event, describing it as a cultural and social movement to celebrate youth, talent and Africa's growing influence on the global stage."It's going to have an effect that is wider than Senegal and Dakar," Dubi vowed."It's not only about sport. People will be amazed by what they will see. It's the energy."As the countdown continues, many Africans will hope that Dakar 2026 will boost the continent's place within the Olympic movement, while also offering opportunities for its young people, administrators and athletes.

With rookies reporting to training camp on Thursday, the Raiders have taken care of an important piece of business. No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza has signed his rookie contract, the team announced. "Lets get this thing rolling," Mendoza said in a video released by the team on social media. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network notes Mendoza's deal is worth $57.27 million, fully guaranteed. The Raiders also hold a fifth-year option on the first-round pick. Mendoza's signing should clear the way for Rams quarterback Ty Simpson and Steelers quarterback Drew Allar to also sign their rookie deals.
