Will Mick Schumacher Get A Second INDYCAR Season?
If anything can demonstrate how rough a season Mick Schumacher has had, its that he finished eighth Monday at Nashville Superspeedway ... and remained 24th in the standings. Considering there are only 25 drivers in the series, it shows that Schumachers season has been a struggle. And it begs the question: Will there be another? It was announced Wednesday that Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing is going to sell one of its charters and scale back from three full-time cars to two. RLL didnt announce its 2027 lineup, but both Graham Rahal and Louis Foster are under contract for 2027. That doesnt mean one of those contracts cant be broken, but the feeling in the INDYCAR paddock is that Schumacher is out of RLL after this season. Does Schumacher want to stay in INDYCAR? Is there a place for Schumacher in the paddock? He potentially could secure the funding if needed. What is definitely needed is more seat time and seeing the small "wins" in a drivers growth. Racing at the top level of INDYCAR should be hard no matter the discipline a driver comes from. Schumacher has Formula 1 experience and no doubt can wheel a race car. But racing in any series against drivers who are more familiar with the cars and the tracks is going to be a challenge, especially when some of the tracks are ovals a discipline that Schumacher has had no experience prior to this season. Schumacher has had a crashes in practice, which limited his much-needed track time. The Rahal Letterman Lanigan team has struggled on ovals, although that is where Schumacher has had his best results. While he earned his first top-10 in his 12th race, Schumacher was quick to point out to me and others Monday that he felt the pace was always there. "The pace overall this year has been showing that anyways," Schumacher said. Schumacher had a day when everything went well as far as execution. He felt if the car was a tick better, he might have finished even higher although Nashville often is a track position game. Rahal Letterman Lanigan isnt considered one of the top elite teams that would go to Ganassi, Penske, Andretti and McLaren those organizations have won 11 of the 12 races this year and have eight of the top-10 spots in points. RLL veteran Graham Rahal is 12th in the standings, Louis Foster (in his second season) is 18th and then Schumacher is 24th. It would be a bit of a shame if Schumacher doesnt do another year in INDYCAR. There will always be the "what if" when looking at his career because 18 races isnt enough to evaluate a driver. Plus, going back to tracks a second time truly shows the potential of a driver if the driver can build on the previous performance, with the starting point of knowledge so much better. Schumacher seemed positive Monday that he would find a ride. If he has funding, Michael Shank Racing and A.J. Foyt Racing would seem to potentially be the best opportunities. "People know what they get, and obviously this hopefully will put it into the books that we are able to do this consistently," he said. "I think theres a high chance that Ill be here next year." Lets hope so. If INDYCAR wants more drivers to consider coming to the series, having "Schumacher spent only a year there and he then left, what a waste" storyline isnt a great one. And for Schumacher himself, a second season would prove whether or not he has the potential to actually win races in this series. In Second Thoughts, Bob Pockrass offers his opinion on a burning motorsports topic.

Mayank Yadav scripts a rare record with first-ball wicket in IND vs ZIM Harare T20I
NEW DELHI: India speedster Mayank Yadav added another milestone to his growing reputation on Thursday, dismissing Zimbabwe opener Brian Bennett with the very first ball of the opening T20I in Harare to join an elite list of Indian bowlers. The express pacer became only the third India bowler to claim a wicket with the first ball of a T20I match, emulating Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya. Arshdeep achieved the feat against USA's Shayan Jahangir during the 2024 T20 World Cup in Nassau, while Hardik removed Pakistan opener Saim Ayub with the opening delivery in the 2025 Asia Cup in Dubai. It was also the second time Mayank has struck off the opening ball of a T20I innings, having earlier dismissed Bangladesh opener Parvez Hossain Emon in Hyderabad during India's home series in October 2024.Review confirms dream start for IndiaMayank wasted no time making an impact after India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first.Charging in at 149 kmph, the right-arm quick delivered a back-of-a-length ball just outside off stump that seamed away late. Brian Bennett, rooted to the crease, could only manage a faint edge through to wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan.Although the on-field umpire turned down India's appeal, Kishan was convinced he had heard something and immediately urged Iyer to review the decision. UltraEdge confirmed a clear spike as the ball passed the bat, overturning the original verdict and sending Bennett back for a golden duck after facing just one delivery.Wicket off the first ball of a T20I by an India bowlerShayan Jahangir (USA) - Arshdeep Singh, Nassau, T20 WC 2024Saim Ayub (PAK) - Hardik Pandya, Dubai, Asia Cup 2025Brian Bennett (ZIM) - Mayank Yadav, Harare, 2026The wicket gave India the perfect start and highlighted Mayank's ability to trouble batters with his pace and movement from the outset. With the dismissal, Mayank also joined an exclusive group of Indian bowlers with multiple first-ball wickets in T20Is. Bhuvneshwar Kumar leads the list with three such dismissals, while Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh and Mayank now have two each. Ravichandran Ashwin is the only other Indian to have achieved the feat once.India bowlers with wickets off the first ball of a T20I inningsBhuvneshwar Kumar (thrice)Hardik Pandya (twice)Arshdeep Singh (twice)Mayank Yadav (twice)Ravichandran Ashwin (once)Earlier, India named teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the playing XI, while Rajasthan pacer Ashok Sharma made his international debut. In another first, India also announced designated concussion substitutes for specific roles before the match, with Suryansh Shedge, Prabhsimran Singh, Harsh Dubey and Yash Thakur covering batting, wicketkeeping, spin and pace respectively.Zimbabwe were forced into a change before the match after Milton Shumba was ruled out of the series with a right hamstring injury, with Innocent Kaia coming in as his replacement.Mayank, however, ensured Zimbabwe's innings began in the worst possible fashion, delivering a dream start for India with a record-equalling first-ball breakthrough. 132583670

Celtics waiting for LeBron James to likely make decision on $11 million All-Star
Celtics waiting for LeBron James to likely make decision on $11 million All-Star originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The LeBron James situation isn't just holding up teams from making other decisions, as certain free agents have to wait to find out where he lands. Once James makes his decision, we should get a better feel for how things will end up going, even with guys like Bradley Beal.Unfortunately for teams interested in Beal, he isn't the same type of player that he once was, but his market is still being impacted by James, according to the latest report, which could be why the Boston Celtics haven't signed him yet.Reports have indicated that the Celtics are very interested in the former star guard.Bradley Beal only played six games for the Los Angeles Clippers last season before sustaining a season-ending hip injury. Beal had a player option to return in 2026-27, but he opted to decline it in order to hit free agency, which makes me think he wants to join a more apparent contending team. Again, all the contenders who need a playmaker/scorer are waiting on James, so Beal is probably not going to sign anywhere until James does, Matt Issa wrote. The Celtics signing Beal might not be what any fan wants, but it's important to note his relationship with superstar Jayson Tatum.Tatum certainly calls a lot of the shots in Boston, and if he wants a guy like Beal on his roster, it wouldn't be surprising to see that be the outcome. For now, however, we'll probably have to wait until James makes his decision.More NBA news:Warriors' real feelings revealed on whether they think they landed LeBron JamesAnthony Davis report shows everything is all over the placeNBA offseason is slow, and it might be because ofKawhi Leonard, not LeBron JamesSpurs need to change Nuggets mind on trade forwing who fits perfectlyReport shows Nuggets have conflicting feelings on trade of $23M wing

Antoine Griezmann Scores In MLS Debut For Orlando City
Antoine Griezmann scored in his MLS debut, David Brekalo and Ivan Angulo each scored his first goal of the season, and Orlando City beat the San Jose Earthquakes 4-0 on Wednesday night in the first game for both teams since before the World Cup break. Griezmann was acquired in March from Atltico Madrid where he is the clubs all-time leading scorer with 211 goals and 97 assists in 488 matches with the understanding that the 35-year-old forward would report to Orlando after the conclusion of the La Liga season. Braian Ojeda added a goal for Orlando (5-9-2). Maxime Crepeau had seven saves. Brekalo was left unmarked and flicked in a header off a perfectly placed free kick played into the center of the area by Eduard Atuesta to open the scoring in the seventh minute. Atuesta pushed a pass to Angulo, who faced no pressure as he approached the penalty box and ripped a low shot that skipped past Gunn to make it 2-0 in the 29th minute. It was Angulo's first goal since Oct. 5, 2024 against Cincinnati. Angus Gunn made his MLS debut and had three saves for the Earthquakes (10-4-2). Gunn, a 30-year-old Scotland international, signed with San Jose on July 8 after he was released by the Premier League's Nottingham Forest FC. The Earthquakes traded goalkeeper Daniel De Sousa Britto known simply as "Daniel" to Dallas on July 9. Daniel had 14 shutouts in 78 regular-season starts across three-plus seasons with San Jose.
