SPORTS.YAHOO.COMComo table improved 30m offer for Chelsea defender Trevoh ChalobahComo table improved 30m offer for Chelsea defender Trevoh ChalobahItalian side Como have submitted an improved formal offer to Chelsea for versatile defender Trevoh Chalobah, with direct negotiations ongoing to finalise an agreement. Xabi Alonso is at Stamford Bridge. The ambitious Serie A club have structured a new proposal worth a guaranteed 25 million, plus 5m in performance-related add-ons. Crucially, the add-ons are understood to be highly attainable, effectively ensuring the total fee reaches 30 million to satisfy Chelseas valuation. This move follows an earlier opening bid from Como that fell short of Chelseas expectations. While the Blues hierarchy initially held out for a premium fee for their academy graduate, this upgraded, nearly guaranteed arrangement has significantly narrowed the valuation gap between the two clubs. From the players perspective, Chalobah is said to be very keen on a move to Lombardy. The 27-year-old English defender is attracted by the sporting project under manager Cesc Fabregas, where he would be guaranteed a central role in the defence. Having spent recent seasons on the fringes at Chelsea, Chalobah sees a move to Italy as the ideal opportunity to re-establish himself as a regular starter.Negotiations between Chelsea and Como remain active as the two clubs work to finalise the details of a deal. With personal terms not expected to pose any obstacle, given the players eagerness to join Fabregas side, momentum is building toward a swift resolution in the coming days.Chalobahs impending departure comes as Chelsea close in on the signing of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, having agreed a deal for the Frenchman who is set to undergo a medical today.0 Comments 0 Shares 29 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReport: Newcastle United hold firm Bruno Gimaraes stance despite 70m offerReport: Newcastle United hold firm Bruno Gimaraes stance despite 70m offerBruno Guimaraes to Arsenal? Newcastle Stand Firm as 70m Bid Talk EmergesArsenal are moving towards an opening offer for Bruno Guimaraes, with TeamTalk reporting growing belief in north London that a summer deal can be done. The figure under discussion is around 70m, while there is also a view that an agreement could eventually land nearer 80m.From Newcastle Uniteds side, the message is firm and consistent. Any proposal at that level is going nowhere. According to the report, an Arsenal bid is not welcome, not wanted and will not be accepted. That wording offers a strong indication of how St James Park currently views the situation.Arsenal Push Bruno Guimaraes DealArsenals interest is understandable. Guimaraes remains one of the Premier Leagues most complete midfielders, a player capable of dictating tempo, winning duels and lifting the technical standard of any side around him. The report states that Mikel Arteta sees the 28-year-old as the ideal addition, while Andrea Berta is continuing work behind the scenes in an effort to advance the move. There is another significant element here. TeamTalk claims Guimaraes has informed Newcastle that he would like to leave St James Park this summer and that he would prefer clarity before pre-season begins later this month. That is important, even if it has not changed Newcastles stance. At present, Newcastle are due to head to La Manga as part of their summer preparations and expect the Brazil international to report as normal. There is no suggestion from the club that a line has been crossed.Photo IMAGONewcastle Valuation Sets ToneThe core issue is valuation. Newcastle have already set a 100m benchmark for Sandro Tonali this summer, and internally there is a belief that Guimaraes is worth even more. In practical terms, that means any Arsenal offer in the 70m to 80m bracket is highly unlikely to trigger meaningful negotiations. The report adds that Newcastle have no intention of negotiating at Arsenals proposed valuation. That feels like the key line in all of this. Admiration is one thing, formal interest is another, but a deal only becomes realistic when the selling club are prepared to engage. There is also mention of Chelsea and Manchester City monitoring developments. Chelsea are said to be watching closely if Newcastle soften their position, while City have remained informed despite focusing much of their midfield investment elsewhere.Bruno Guimaraes Transfer Stance Remains CalmPerhaps the most notable detail for Newcastle is the players reported approach. Despite wanting the move, Guimaraes is not expected to agitate. The report says he has no intention of forcing a move and, unlike a more combustible transfer saga, he is not set to miss training or create disruption. That leaves Arsenal facing a familiar modern-market problem. They may want the player, the player may be open to it, but Newcastle hold the contract, hold the leverage and, for now, hold a valuation far above the numbers being discussed. Our ViewFrom a Newcastle United supporters point of view, this is exactly the kind of stance the club should be taking. If Arsenal want Bruno Guimaraes, they should understand from the outset that elite players at Newcastle do not leave on someone elses terms. Not welcome, not wanted and will not be accepted is the sort of line fans will love, because it shows strength. There is also a wider point. Newcastle cannot talk about competing for the biggest honours and then sell a midfielder of Guimaraes quality for 70m or even 80m. That would feel short of his value in todays market, especially when the club reportedly view him as worth at least the 100m level. He is a leader, a tone-setter and one of the few players in the league who can change the rhythm of a match in an instant.Supporters will also take encouragement from the claim that he has no intention of forcing a move. If a player wants a new challenge, that can happen in football, but professionalism matters. Reporting for pre-season, working properly and avoiding drama would keep respect intact.Ultimately, Newcastle hold the cards here. Unless someone produces a truly elite fee, the best outcome for supporters is simple, keep Bruno, build around him and let the rest of the Premier League know this club are done being treated like a selling side.0 Comments 0 Shares 31 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMLS Season Reset: Teams to look out for in the second half of the seasonMLS Season Reset: Teams to look out for in the second half of the seasonAfter an extended hiatus during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Major League Soccer is back! So, in case you need a quick refresher, here are the clubs you should look out for as the 2026 MLS season gets back underway.Orlando City vs. Nashville on July 25 at 7:30pm ET. Watch live onApple TVNew York Red Bull vs. Charlotte on July 25 at 6:30pm ET. Watch live onApple TVMinnesota vs. Vancouver on July 25 at 8:30pm ET. Watch live onApple TVThe conference leadersComing off a franchise-best regular season and a trip to 2025 MLS Cup, Vancouver Whitecaps have picked up right where they left off.The Whitecaps went into the World Cup break with 32 points from their first 14 matches, on top of a league-leading +22 goal difference. And if the likes of Sebastian Berhalter and Thomas Mller continue their early-season form, the Canadian club are more than capable of replicating last season's success.Meanwhile, over in the Eastern Conference, Nashville SC have looked similarly impervious. B. J. Callaghans side entered the break leading the Supporters' Shield race, one point above Vancouver. At the same time, the club went unbeaten at home, recording six wins and a draw. With Hany Mukhtar andSam Surridge bothin top form, could this be Nashville's year?Early-season surprisesAt the start of the year, virtually no one expected San Jose Earthquakes to be one of the league's best teams through the first half of the season. However, with the addition of German star Timo Werner, San Jose have been thoroughly impressive. The Quakes jumped out to their best start in franchise history with eight wins from their opening nine matches, becoming the first MLS side to do so in the post-shootout era (since 2000).It is no wonder the club signed head coach and sporting director Bruce Arena to a contract extension during the World Cup hiatus.Elsewhere, Chicago Fire are also off to an excellent but largely unexpected start. In Gregg Berhalter's second season at the helm, the former USMNT head coach has helped Chicago secure 26 points from their first 14 matches, prior to the midseason break. While Golden Boot leader Hugo Cuypers has been providing the goals (13), it is now Robert Lewandowski's turn to take up the goalscoring mantle, after the Polish icon joined from Barcelona. So, will Lewandowski turn a very good team into a great one?The playoff raceMuch like Chicago, Orlando City enter the second half of the season with far greater ambitions thanks to the signing of French superstar Antoine Griezmann fromAtltico Madrid. The 2018 World Cup-winner said farewell to Atleti back in May, leaving as the club's all-time top goalscorer. But, after losing six of their first eight matches and parting ways with head coach scar Pareja, Griezmann's new club entered the hiatus four points outside of the playoff places.Naturally, Orlando will be hoping the Frenchman can ignite their attack alongside fellow designated playersMarco Paali andMartn Ojeda.Back in the West, San Diego FC are still settling into their sophomore season. The 2025 expansion club had an extraordinary first MLS season, finishing top of the Western Conference and reaching the Conference Finals. This time around, however, it has not quite been smooth sailing. San Diego went into the World Cup break just outside the playoff positions with 17 points from 15 games.Still, there is plenty of time for reigning MLS Newcomer of the Year Anders Dreyer and head coach Mikey Varas to secure their second-straight postseason berth.Teams to watchIn his first top-flight coaching job, Michael Bradley has turned Red Bull New York into one of the league's most exciting teams. The former USMNT captain was named RBNY head coach ahead of the 2026 season, having previously coachedthe club's MLS NEXT Pro side.Since then,he has led the league's youngest roster, with an average age of 23.5, to fifth in the East (as of the hiatus). In that time, Bradley became the first coach in MLS history to name a starting XI with three players aged 17 or younger. Among them is now-18-year-old MLS All-StarJulian Hall, who already has nine goals and four assists this season. On the other hand, it is impossible to look away from what Lionel Messi and company are doing in Miami. Before guiding Argentina to the World Cup final, the39-year-old had already racked up 20 goal contributions in the league this season. But, in spite of Messi's brilliance, Miami have won just two of their first six MLS matches at the recently-opened Nu Stadium.Fortunately for the South Florida side, they have been near-unstoppable on the road, collecting 22 points from their nine away games before the break, equalling the league record.0 Comments 0 Shares 37 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKlopp fires warning after signing as Germany coach until 2030Juergen Klopp speaks during a press conference to introduce the new national team head coach. Florian Wiegand/dpaJrgen Klopp has signed a deal until 2030 to become Germany coach and told a news conference on Friday he was "delighted" - but warned the press he would quit if they "misbehave."The former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool boss was the DFB's immediate first choice to succeed Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned following the World Cup last-32 exit to Paraguay in June.Klopp has been global head of soccer at the sports arm of drinks maker Red Bull but will now lead Germany into the Nations League, qualifying for Euro 2028 in the British Isles and qualifiers for the 2030 World Cup. His contract will begin on August 15."It is a big honour to sit here," Klopp said in Frankfurt. "I had an idea how big the job is but when you are involved, you feel the responsibility even more. It is a very special day for me."His first match in charge will be against the Netherlands in Amsterdam on September 24 in Germany's opening Nations League fixture."It is not just about the first team. But of course it is the immediate priority that we play better football with the lads we have," he said.Amid talk that Germany no longer have a top world-class player, he said: "As a coaching team we want to produce a package. We have a few weeks before the first match. It is enough time for me to prepare. We are all ready."Klopp is well-known for his charisma but his press conference was not as joyful or comedic as some fans might have expected."On the day you don't want me anymore, tell me and I'm gone," he said before appearing to warn the gathered media, "If you misbehave and don't leave my family alone, I'm gone."Three Germany games in Leipzig as compensation The 59-year-old won two Bundesliga titles with Dortmund in 2011 and 2012 before lifting the Champions League with Liverpool in 2019 and the Premier League a year afterwards. He left Liverpool in May 2024 to have a break from coaching, but said during talks with the DFB that his batteries were now "recharged."Discussions focused on his various advertising deals and whether they would fit in with the DFB. Solutions were eventually found after weeks of talks, which were slightly hindered by Klopp being in the US for the World Cup as a MagentaTV pundit. He said Red Bull had agreed a "generous" deal to let him leave a job where he had oversight over Red Bull's teams across the world, including RB Leizpig and New York Red Bulls. The DFB will pay 1 million ($1.1 million) to Red Bull's foundation as compensation and RB Leipzig will hold three Germany games until 2030.DFB president Bernd Neuendorf, who said talks had gone through some "complex issues", added: "He was from the very start our preferred candidate."Neuendorf also said he was "very thankful" to Red Bull for the "relatively quick" agreement.Klopp is the 13th head coach of the Germany men's team. Germany have not won a knock-out game at a men's World Cup since winning the title in 2014.Just before his press conference, a meeting of the DFB's supervisory board and wider stakeholders voted in a digital meeting to appoint Klopp. His long-serving assistants Peter Krawietz and Pepijn Lijnders and his former Dortmund player Sven Bender were also approved by the DFB as assistant coaches.Germany's 2014 World Cup winner Per Mertesacker, who spent eight years running Arsenal's youth academy, is also becoming the DFB's managing director for sport from January.Juergen Klopp speaks during a press conference to introduce the new national team head coach.
