Bonfim is now 2-4 inside the Octagon and has lost three straight fights, getting stopped in all three defeats.Fortune (18-4) was sent to the hospital for precautionary CT scans of his head, face and pelvis following his third round stoppage loss to Rizvan Kuniev on UFC Abu Dhabis main card.At least he will leave Abu Dhabi with some extra cash.Fortune and Kuniev earned Fight of the Night honors, meaning the 36-year-old Heavyweight will receive a $100,000 bonus for his efforts.Still, it was a rough night for Fortune, who suffered his first UFC loss and had his four-fight win streak snapped. Little did we know that that was the only run that would be scored on the evening.On the mound, Tim Mayza was the opener and did a fine job over two shutout innings, giving way to Brian Keller in his major league debut. Keller did give up a home run to Austin Wells, but for the most part, did just fine in keeping the Yankees off the board, only allowing a single run over three innings. Clearly, the coaching staff did not want Keller out there too long, instead opting to go to the bullpen in the sixth inning instead.In that inning, Kyle Backhus walked the first hitter he faced before getting the next two on strikeouts, giving way to Seth Johnson. Johnson looked like a decent candidate to break out as a reliever, but it just has not come to fruition. He gave up back to back hits to allow Wells to score and give the Yankees the lead.Meanwhile, the offense was generating some traffic against Weathers, but couldnt push anything across. In the sixth, they got runners on the corners with Bryan de la Cruz and J.T. Realmuto each singling, but facing Angel Chivilli, Bryson Stott popped out into foul territory to end the threat. The Yankees tacked on another in the seventh on a Jasson Dominguez home run and that was basically that. The offense is just slumping so badly right now and everyone is trying to swing their way out of it. The Yankees have been pitching well prior to this series and have carried it over into Philadelphia, but still, there should be better at bats coming from this lineup. Theyll try and salvage a game tomorrow night on Sunday Night Baseball with Cristopher Sanchez on the mound, so well see.

Los Angeles Dodgers utility player Kike Hernandez, after months on the injured list, is ready to return for the Dodgers after the end of his rehab assignment. Hernandez has been out with a severe oblique strain, something that he picked up while coming back from elbow surgery. At the end of the season, he opted to get elbow surgery after playing through it to play in the postseason. It left him with a long recovery, which included missing the World Baseball Classic and the start of the season. Hernandez returned in late May, playing two games against the Rockies and looking rejuvenated at the plate, but his comeback was a short one. His swing improvements have seemingly carried over despite his injuries. He continues to look comfortable at the plate and deliver results. With him returning, Alex Freeland is the likely roster casualty, moving back down to Triple-A. Although there is a chance that Alex Call could be designated for assignment, Roberts and the Dodgers tend to favor his outfield versatility and baserunning. Regardless, Hernandez unlocks a ton of flexibility, helping the Dodgers rotate at a ton of positions. More importantly, the veteran team gets the chance to totally integrate him into the picture ahead of October.

Its been generally treated as a matter of when, not if, Seattle Storm center Dominique Malonga will register her first WNBA dunk. The 2026 WNBA All-Star Game wound up being a fine occasion for it.The annual defense-optional event saw the 6-foot-6 Malonga throw down a dunk in the second quarter with an assist from Angel Reese. Michael Brennan shot a 63 and shared fourth with Chandler Phillips at 16 under. Denny McCarthy, Billy Horschel and Michael Kim were in sixth at 15 under.Scottie Scheffler, the worlds top-ranked player, was six strokes behind Koivun in a four-way tie for ninth place with Davis Thompson, Seamus Power and Brian Harman.The 21-year-old Koivun, who was the top-ranked amateur player after a standout college career at Auburn and turned pro last month following the U.S. Open, had two eagles and six birdies to separate from the pack on a steamy and still afternoon that was ideal for low scores.Just got to keep the foot on the gas, Koivun said.Koivun sank a 12-foot putt on the 12th green and a 14-footer on the 18th to eagle two of the three par-5s on the lake-filled course, which joined the tour schedule in 2019. Size has long been one of the first traits NFL evaluators look at when projecting outside cornerbacks. At 5'9, Jacob Parrish doesn't fit the traditional mold, yet the Tampa Bay Buccaneers appear willing to give him every opportunity to prove he can.According to reports heading into training camp, Parrish is expected to compete with Benjamin Morrison for the starting outside cornerback job opposite Zyon McCollum. This comes after drafting Miami Hurricane nickel corner Keionte Scott in the 4th round. If he wins the job, he'll be tasked with proving that instincts, athleticism, and competitiveness can outweigh a lack of size. Outside cornerbacks regularly line up against receivers standing 6'2" or taller, making contested catches and jump balls one of the biggest concerns for shorter defensive backs. Bigger receivers can use their frame to shield defenders, particularly in the red zone and along the sideline.However, Parrish has traits that could help offset that disadvantage. His speed allows him to stay in phase with receivers vertically, while his footwork and change of direction help him mirror routes at all three levels of the field. He also plays with far more physicality than his frame would suggest, refusing to shy away from contact despite giving up size to most opponents, as we saw against 6'4 Tetairoa McMillan, where he battled the towering WR on multiple plays and was able to deflect passes despite being half a foot shorter.The Buccaneers may also believe their defensive philosophy plays to Parrish's strengths. Todd Bowles asks his cornerbacks to be aggressive, challenge receivers at the line of scrimmage, and trust their athletic ability in man coverage. Parrish has shown throughout his career that confidence has never been an issue. His competition won't be easy, however. Benjamin Morrison entered the league with the profile of a prototypical outside corner and possesses the length many teams covet at the position. If Morrison is fully healthy after battling injuries, his size and ball skills make him a strong candidate to earn the starting role.Training camp should provide plenty of answers, but Parrish's presence in the competition says a lot about how Tampa Bay views him. NEW YORK After this disaster of a Mets season ends and the Mets start their postmortem, theyll have to find out why Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor both suffered calf injuries, Jorge Polanco suffered an Achilles injury, and whether there is any correlation with their training program.Soto was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a Grade 2 left calf strain, his second time going on the IL this season with a calf strain. In April, Soto suffered a minor strain to his right calf in San Francisco, costing him only about three weeks of the season.This time, hell be out for much longer, though the Mets declined to announce a tentative timeline. A typical timeline for this injury is 4-6 weeks, which would put him on track to return at some point in September. At that point, it might be more prudent to shut him down for the season, but interim manager Andy Green said he does expect Soto to return.The club is having specialists review Sotos MRI to determine a more precise timeline.Anticipation right now is its going to take longer than last time, Green said Saturday ahead of the second game of a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was out about three weeks last time, so its a little more significant than last time. Its not what we were hoping for. Hes a guy we love having on the field; hes a guy who loves to be on the field competing. Well be without him for a period of time now.Calf injuries and Achilles injuries tend to be related. The Mets have now had four of those injuries to three players this season, so it could simply be bad luck. It could also mean some of the training theyre having position players do is leading to a weakness in that area. It could also be both luck and training.The club insists there are no commonalities they can find at the moment. Even if there is, they likely wouldnt want to throw their training staff under the bus, and rightfully so. One positive with the Mets current culture is that guys arent afraid to report injuries. This is something they take pride in, and likely wouldnt want to erode.Its also best not to anger or insult the medical staff, who still have jobs to do for the next few months. The team has consistently spoken highly of the clubs medical staff, Soto included.Catcher Francisco Alvarez returned from meniscus surgery ahead of schedule this season, right-hander Clay Holmes is currently ahead of schedule with his rehab from a fractured fibula, and A.J. Minter had nothing but positive things to say after the way the team took care of him following his lat surgery last season, and his rehab into this season.Its a frustrating set of circumstances, Green said. Definitely something well reflect on and see if theres anything that jumps out at this present moment. It feels unlucky to a degree, and it hasnt been the same mechanism for each player, so when thats the case, youve just got to look at each player and try to design their best path forward.The 27-year-old, $765 million outfielder has been one of the few bright spots this season, though thats to be expected for a player of his caliber. His .947 OBP is the second-highest in baseball behind Houstons Yordan Alvarez, and his .408 on-base mark is also No. 2 behind Alvarez. His 21 home runs lead the Mets by a large margin. Alvarez has hit the second-most with 12; Mark Vientos and Carson Benge have each hit 11, while Marcus Semien and Bo Bichette are behind them with 10.Soto had been in the lineup as a DH more often than usual lately, especially over the last road trip with the Mets trying to mitigate the calf soreness. Without him, it will open up more DH at-bats for Polanco, who hasnt been able to find his timing at the plate since coming off the IL earlier this month.Limited to only nine games because of the way the Mets have to spread out at-bats, the switch-hitter has hit just .129 with two RBI, a walk and nine strikeouts in nine games.In the last week, Juans obviously taking quite a few of the DH at-bats, and I think thats kind of stunted Polos ability to find some rhythm, so were going to try to get him back into a rhythm, Green said. Hes a guy we believe a lot in. Hopefully, as time goes on, well get him to first base, and then well see how the DH at-bats get divvied up at that point.Infielder Eric Wagaman was called up from Triple-A Syracuse to take Sotos spot on the roster.
