Giants waive linebacker Cam Jones and defensive lineman C.J. Ravenell
The Giants opened up two spots on their 90-player roster ahead of training camp.Linebacker Cam Jones and defensive lineman C.J. Ravenell were both waived.Jones signed with the Giants in March but missed time during offseason workouts with what coach John Harbaugh described as an injury he suffered while moving boxes into his new home. Jones spent last season with the Jets, appearing in 10 games, and had played in all 17 games each of the two previous seasons with the Chiefs. He primarily plays on special teams.Although there's no word on any box-moving injuries, Ravenell was waived with a Non-Football Injury designation. Abhishek Sharma scripts history, enters Indian cricket's record books
India all-rounder Abhishek Sharma etched his name into the record books after registering the best bowling figures by an Indian opener in T20I cricket during the second T20I against Zimbabwe on Saturday. The left-arm spinner returned figures of 3/17, surpassing every Indian opener to produce the finest bowling performance in the shortest format. His spell came as India thrashed Zimbabwe by 90 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Abhishek's effort now sits alongside two iconic performances by Indian openers across formats. Vinoo Mankad continues to hold the record in Tests with his remarkable 8/52 against Pakistan in 1952, while Ravi Shastri's 5/15 against Australia in 1991 remains the best by an Indian opener in ODIs. Best bowling figures by an Indian opener: Tests: Vinoo Mankad 8/52 vs Pakistan (1952) ODIs: Ravi Shastri 5/15 vs Australia (1991) T20Is: Abhishek Sharma 3/17 vs Zimbabwe (2026) Abhishek had endured a disappointing outing with the bat after being dismissed cheaply by Blessing Muzarabani, but he made a decisive impact with the ball. Introduced as a part-time option, the left-arm spinner struck three times to ensure Zimbabwe never recovered during their daunting chase of 220. Zimbabwe's pursuit lost momentum after Brian Bennett's early aggression was cut short, and the visitors kept chipping away at regular intervals. Abhishek's three wickets, along with two each from Yash Thakur and Prince Yadav, bundled the hosts out for 129. Earlier, India recovered from 29/2 thanks to Ishan Kishan's commanding 81 and Tilak Varma's unbeaten 60. Kishan steadied the innings before accelerating in the latter half of his knock, while Tilak produced a fluent half-century to power India to 219/5. The bowlers then completed the job in emphatic fashion, with Abhishek capping off the victory by creating a new Indian record.

Hardik Pandya trade: MI want CSK duo as part of swap deal, Chennai Super Kings ready to offer cash-plus one player to sign Mumbai Indians captain
Hardik Pandya trade: MI want CSK duo as part of swap deal, Chennai Super Kings ready to offer cash-plus one player to sign Mumbai Indians captain originally appeared on Cricket News. Add Cricket News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.KEY TAKEAWAYS:Hardik Pandya trade talks link Mumbai Indians to Shivam Dube, Ayush Mhatre or Dewald Brevis.Hardik's IPL 2026 numbers are underwhelming in both bat and ball.Proposed deals appear heavily favourable toward the Mumbai Indians.Hardik Pandya trade buzz heats up in the IPL off-seasonA potential switch of allegiance for Hardik Pandya, from Mumbai Indians to Chennai Super Kings, has sparked talk of what could turn into one of the IPL's most significant trade deals in recent memory.According toThe Hindustan Times, two distinct versions of the negotiations are currently doing the rounds. One scenario has Mumbai Indians pushing for both Shivam Dube and Ayush Mhatre in exchange for handing over Hardik, while an alternative version indicates CSK are reluctant to give up Mhatre altogether, instead proposing Dube alongside Dewald Brevis and a cash component worth 10 crore. The figures being floated around offer an interesting window into how each side is valuing their assets. Hardik continues to occupy a rare space in Indian cricket, a middle-order batter who can also bowl genuine pace and lead a side, all while not counting against a team's overseas quota.MORE:MI captain for IPL 2027: Jasprit Bumrah and Tilak Varma emerge as contenders while Hardik Pandya's future to be decided in review meeting Sportzpics, BCCI Reputation, not recent form, is driving Hardik's valuationHardik's IPL 2026 numbers tell a different story than one befitting a marquee trade package. He managed just 206 runs across the season, averaging 22.89 at a strike rate of 138.26, without registering a single half-century.His death-over returns, an area he's traditionally relied upon, were similarly underwhelming, just 49 runs from 37 balls at a strike rate of 132.4. His bowling raised even bigger red flags, with only four wickets from 22.4 overs and an economy rate ballooning to 11.43 runs per over overall, climbing further to 15.75 during the death overs and 13.75 in the powerplay. His only genuinely effective phase came between overs 12 and 16, where his economy dropped to a respectable 7.80.MORE:Why fans think CSK's latest trade teaser is about Hardik Pandya after eagle clueWhy the Dube-Mhatre package favours MumbaiThe clearer of the two proposed deals to assess is the one involving Dube and Mhatre. Dube comfortably outperformed Hardik with the bat this past season, scoring 270 runs at an average of 38.57 and a strike rate of 158.82, surpassing Hardik across every major batting metric. He was particularly destructive during the death overs, striking 120 runs off 66 balls at a rate of 181.8, and was equally effective through the middle phase, scoring 81 runs from 47 deliveries at a strike rate of 172.3 between overs seven and eleven.Looking at the numbers side by side, it's hard to argue against Mumbai Indians coming out ahead in either version of this proposed trade.MORE:CSK gatecrashes the race! Seven IPL franchises explode into massive trade war for HardikHanding over a player whose IPL 2026 season featured no half-centuries and a bowling economy touching double digits, in exchange for a proven middle-order hitter like Dube, with or without Mhatre or Brevis thrown in, looks like a lopsided swap on paper.Reputation and past achievements still carry weight in trade negotiations, and Hardik's leadership experience and flexibility shouldn't be dismissed entirely. But franchises increasingly rely on data-driven valuations rather than legacy status alone, and by that measure, CSK would be taking on considerable risk for a player currently trending in the wrong direction on both fronts of his game. For all the latest cricket news, opinion, and commentary and to share your voice, head to ourFacebook,Instagram, andX (Twitter)pages.

'Worst news' for Iraola as Gomez injured in pre-season opener
[Getty Images]Liverpool started life under Andoni Iraola with a 4-2 win over Sunderland thanks to goals from Kieran Morrison, Dominik Szoboszlai, Federico Chiesa and Lewis Koumas. But the Iraola era had initially got off to the worst possible start when Joe Gomez, who started the game as centre-back and captain, went down injured and was taken off in the eighth minute."Probably the worst news has been straight away the injury of Joe. We were happy because we were going through training without losing any players and unluckily for us we've lost Joe straight away," said Iraola, who was also without new signing Jeremy Jacquet - who plays centre-half - for the opening friendly of Liverpool's tour of the USA."With Jeremy we decided to take it easy with him. He's had a lot of months without playing and he's been training very well but we're going to take it easy with him," Iraola added. "He will play probably in the last game of this tour and he will have time to have minutes."With Virgil van Dijk given extra time off following the Netherlands' World Cup campaign, it meant that two teenage centre-backs held the line until the 68th minute.Mor Talla N'diaye, 18, and Ifeanyi Ndukwe, 18, made their debuts and both performed admirably given the situation but neither can be expected to feature regularly yet. Meanwhile, Giovanni Leoni, 19, is still undergoing individual training as he works his way back from a severe ACL tear.Iraola said earlier in the week that his squad was "very thin" defensively. Liverpool's sporting director, Richard Hughes, was in Nashville for the game and if he wasn't aware already, seeing Gomez trudge off must have underlined how they are desperately short when it comes to experience in the centre-back department.

Pirlos Italy appointment stalls as FIGC scrutinise Russian betting links
Pirlos Italy appointment stalls as FIGC scrutinise Russian betting linksAndrea Pirlos expected appointment as Italy head coach has been thrown into doubt, with the FIGC pausing to examine his commercial ties to a Russian betting company before committing. The deal had appeared close to completion, but La Gazzetta dello Sport, via CalcioMercato, reports that federation president Giovanni Malag has applied the brakes, taking time to assess the situation surrounding the former Milan and Juventus midfielder. At issue is Pirlos role as a global ambassador for Fonbet, a bookmaker whose Russian ownership, rather than the betting link itself, already off-limits for registered figures in Italy, is the real sticking point.Relations between Italy and Russia have remained strained since the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, and Pirlos promotional work for the brand, which recently took him to Moscow for a company event, sits awkwardly against the prospect of leading the national side. Political figures have added their voices to the unease.REGGIO NELLEMILIA, ITALY MAY 18: Head coach of Juventus Andrea Pirlo speaks with the media during an Juventus press conference ahead of the TIMVISION Cup Final between Atalanta BC and Juventus on May 18, 2021 in Reggio nellEmilia, Italy. (Photo by Claudio Villa/Getty Images for Lega Serie A)Pirlos lawyers point to United FC Dubai exitMalag has asked for a closer look at the nature of the relationship between Pirlo and Fonbet, not least because Sergey Lomakin, president and owner of United FC, the Dubai club Pirlo currently coaches, holds significant financial interests in the company.Pirlos legal team maintain that the Fonbet arrangement is tied to his role in the Emirates, and that terminating his United FC contract would dissolve the betting deal with it.The coach is said to be keen to speak with Malag and is working to end his stay in Dubai, clearing the way for concrete talks. The federation cannot, and will not, negotiate with a manager still under contract at another club.Technical director Paolo Maldini and advisor Leonardo remain convinced Pirlo is the ideal fit for a long-term project, with the framework of a contract already discussed.Should Malag judge his position compatible with the role, the FIGC are ready to move quickly, and with time short, they are eager to settle on their next CT.

Barcelona see French international as an option for the centre-back position next season
Barcelona see French international as an option for the centre-back position next seasonBarcelona are in a tight spot when it comes to the transfer market. The club may have already roped in Karim Adeyemi and Anthony Gordon, but they need more reinforcements, especially in defence. However, the current market conditions, coupled with the dearth of a truly ideal and cost-effective option has only delayed the process. This has forced Barcelona to come up with internal solutions, and that is where things get interesting.Jules Kounde to operate as a centre-back?Kounde could operate as centre-back next season. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick sees Jules Kounde as a potential option for the centre-back position next season.Flick believes Kounde can be considered in his previous role next season, provided Barcelona face a shortage of centre-back.For now, the German coach is extremely happy with the performances of Pau Cubarsi and Gerard Martin, with Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen serving as additional backups.Araujos future has been a bit murky, and if the Uruguayan international ends up leaving, Barcelona might be forced to look into the market. But if no ideal candidates come up, they see Kounde as the ideal internal replacement. What about the right-back position?Eric Garcia is a strong option for the right-back position. (Photo by Manuel Velasquez/Getty Images)The report adds that Eric Garcia is a strong option for the right-back position, in addition to Kounde himself. It appears the club have realised Koundes inconsistent form in the position last season and are ready to offer him a way back into his preferred centre-back role.Other than these two, Barcelona have Hector Fort and Xavi Espart as other potential solutions in the position. In that way, Barcelona are well covered in the right-back position, although coach Hansi Flick would have ideally liked to bring in a fresh face. The Catalans are actively trying to bring in Joao Cancelo on a permanent deal, but the Portuguese international will likely be an option on the left flank. He can still play as a right-back, nonetheless.

Diomande signing for Real Madrid not tied to Vinicius departure -report
Real Madrid are closing in on an agreement for Red Bull Leipzig star Yan Diomande. Los Blancos seem set to spend around 120 million to sign the young attacker but that move is not tied to Vinicius Junior leaving the club this summer, according to a report from AS.Vinicius and Real Madrid have yet to reach an agreement over a contract extension and Arsenal are seriously considering his signing, according to a report from The Athletics David Ornstein. Still, and while theres a sizeable gap between Vinicius demands and Real Madrids offer, both parts want the extension to happen, per that same report from AS.That means that Real Madrid want to build a menacing attacking line with Mbapp, Vinicius and Diomande, with Bellingham playing in the number 10 role play making.
