Packers place 6 players on injury lists
PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA - OCTOBER 26: Tucker Kraft #85 of the Green Bay Packers reacts during the second quarter against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium on October 26, 2025 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Kevin Sabitus/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesThe Green Bay Packers injured players, along with rookies, reported to Green Bay today. Per the NFL wire, the following players were placed on injury lists:RB Chris BrooksTE Tucker KraftTE Luke MusgraveLG Aaron BanksDL Javon HargraveCB Kamal HaddenAll but Brooks, who was placed on the non-football injury list, were placed on the physically unable to perform list. This means that they were all injured under the Packers watch, other than Brooks. The two big injuries we know about from this list are Tucker Krafts ACL and Kamal Haddens ankle injury. As we broke down earlier this year, Kraft should be able to fully go somewhere around August 23rd, with a potential return to practice as early as three weeks before that. Dont assume that Krafts stay on the PUP list will be long.As expected, neither defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt nor offensive lineman Zach Tom are on injury lists to start the year. The surprise here is that Hadden, who said his injury was going to be a four- to five-month recovery process in January, isnt ready to go.Edge rusher Micah Parsons wasnt put on PUP list today as a formality and will be added to the group tomorrow, according to NFL Networks Mike Garafolo. Interesting, defensive lineman Jordon Riley, who tore his Achilles and isnt expected to contribute in 2026, wasnt added to the PUP list on Monday, either.

Joey Votto recalls David Ross berating him as his Reds teammate
Former Cincinnati Reds great Joey Votto was asked while making his NBC Sunday Night Baseball debut July 26 whether he ever lobbied to play the outfield, and he mentioned a painful memory."I came up as a left fielder," Votto said. "Maybe not came up as a left fielder, but I played some left field when I first got called up to Cincinnati. And I remember vividly a ground ball down the left-field line. Me going to the corner, the ball zipping past me (for) three bases, bases empty. Going back to the dugout and (then catcher) David Ross slamming his helmet on the bench, saying, 'What the heck is going on?' And I just thought, 'Ohh, let me play first base please!' They got me over (to first base) as quickly as they possibly could."Earlier in the broadcast, Bob Costas asked Votto whether his career might be underappreciated by some baseball fans, having played in Cincinnatiwithout winning a World Series."Any Philly fan knows the Cincinnati Reds because we were no-hit on this field vs. Roy Halladay in 2010,"Votto responded. "So they may know me, but not for the right reasons.""That was really fun,"Votto tweetedafter the Yankees-Phillies game, hisSunday Night Baseball debutas NBC analyst. This article originally appeared on Cincinnati Enquirer: Joey Votto recalls David Ross berating him as his Reds teammate

Packers Say Other NFL Teams Have An ATM Machine They Lack
The Packers are currently in a solid financial position, but that status is increasingly threatened as the NFLs accelerating growth curve potentially conflicts with the teams unique, publicly held status.Three days after the release of the Packers latest financial report, the team held its annual shareholder meeting Monday afternoon at Lambeau Field. There, franchise executives continued to lay out a daunting, long-term scenario: the other 31 NFL teams have access to additional resources such as private equity and minority stake sales that are incompatible with the Packers ownership structure.Other teams have access to this ATM machine that we just dont have, said Packers president and CEO Ed Policy. Its getting more expensive to run an NFL team. Candidly, I think we have to be more aggressive in terms of revenue generation going forward.Despite posting a franchise-record $753 million in revenue for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, some signs of stress are already showing up on the Packers balance sheet. Due in part to accelerated player costs through acquisition such as defensive end Micah Parsons, the Packers posted a $1.1 million operating loss, its first non-pandemic year in the red since 1990.The Packers are also pushing for additional events at Lambeau Field as securing additional local revenue becomes more of a priority. The team, however, continues to rule out selling naming rights for Lambeau Field, one of the most iconic venues anywhere in sportsprompting a hearty cheer from the shareholder meeting attendees.Lambeau Field and Soldier Field are the only current NFL venues without any naming rights, though the Chiefs do have field naming rights for Arrowhead Stadium. As the Bears and Chiefs develop new stadiums, and likely pursue naming rights for those forthcoming venues, the Packers will remain an anomaly within the NFL.We might be a little more aggressive with some of the other entitlement inventory we just hadnt taken advantage of in the past, Policy said.Mondays shareholder meeting in Green Bay was the first to be led entirely by Policy after he formally succeeded longtime team executive Mark Murphy last year.As the leagues only publicly owned team, the Packers provide a unique window into the financial state of the NFL, which continues to assert itself as the most dominant sports league on the planet.National ProfileEven as the Packers have some structural challenges, the team still enjoys the fruits of the NFLs power. The club pulled in $453.2 million from the league during the fiscal year, meaning the NFL generated $14.5 billion in annual national revenue. Most of that is from domestic media deals that are about to be renegotiated. The Packers shareholder meeting also brought a familiar dose of regional rivalry. The Bears still suck!, attendees chanted at one point, referring to the archival Chicago team that had a breakthrough 2025 season, reaching the divisional round of the playoffs.

Mike Norvell shares confidence in FSU offensive line
Florida State head coach Mike Norvell believes one of the biggest differences entering the 2026 season is the continuity his offensive line has built over the past several months.Speaking during Monday's press conference ahead of the start of fall camp, Norvell pointed to the group's experience working together throughout spring practice and summer workouts as a key reason for his confidence in the unit. After entering last season with several newcomers who missed time, he said this year's offensive line has a much stronger foundation heading into the season."I feel a lot better now than where maybe I felt a year ago just within the cohesiveness of the group because of the reps," Norvell said. The Seminoles returned for 15 spring practices with much of the offensive line intact, giving the unit valuable time to develop chemistry while becoming more comfortable with offensive line coach Herb Hand's techniques and the demands of Florida State's offense. Norvell said those repetitions allowed the group to improve its communication and gain a deeper understanding of the finer details required to execute consistently. That progress carried into the summer, even without full-contact practices. While players were unable to face live defensive fronts during offseason workouts, Norvell emphasized the importance of continuing to refine technique, fundamentals and the operational side of the offense. He believes the added familiarity with play calls and adjustments has positioned the unit well heading into preseason camp. The next step, according to Norvell, is applying that knowledge against live competition. With fall camp set to begin, Florida State's offensive line will spend the next month sharpening its execution against a variety of defensive looks while continuing to build competition across the position group."I feel really good about the group of guys we have up front, the continued competition of what's there," Norvell said. "I've actually got to see them for the last seven, eight months working together."The offensive line remains one of the biggest position groups to watch entering the 2026 season after Florida State emphasized continuity up front throughout the offseason. Norvell's comments suggest he believes that continuity, combined with months of shared work, has the Seminoles in a stronger position than they were entering last fall.Follow us@FSUWireon X and like our page onFacebookto follow ongoing coverage ofFlorida Statenews, notes, and opinions. This article originally appeared on FSU Wire: Mike Norvell shares confidence in FSU offensive line

Early Opponent Outlook: Apple Cup Season Opener Offers Unique Test
For the first time in the 118th meeting between the Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars, the annual Apple Cup rivalry football game will take place on the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend. It's not the only unique part of the 2026 rendition between Jedd Fisch's team and first-year Cougars coach Kirby Moore, brought in to breathe new life into WSU after Jimmy Rogers made a quick exit from Pullman after just one year to take over as the head coach at Iowa State."Surreal," Moore told the Big Ten Network's Yogi Roth of opening his first season at WSU against UW. "I think it's an incredible opportunity for our players to be on a grand stage. It's the firstand onlytime the Apple Cup's been played on a Sunday. I can't wait to attack it with the guys."Although the game will be Moore's and many other players' first against UW on Sept. 5, his expected starting quarterback, Caden Pinnick, has some experience at Husky Stadium. The transfer from UC Davis made his second career start for the Aggies last falla 70-10 victory for the Huskiesin Seattle last September.new teams. new challenges. same competitive mindset.the Cougs are ready for the next chapter head coach Kirby Moore and @WSUCougarFB are next up on The Dawn with @YogiRoth of @yoptionfb https://t.co/Kkp4lD9C5Bpic.twitter.com/Otwnyarqow Pac-12 Conference (@pac12) July 19, 2026Pinnick finished the game 8-of-16 for 50 yards with a touchdown and an interception, his lowest yardage output in 2025, but proved to be one of the best FCS quarterbacks by the end of the season. He finished No. 5 in touchdown passes (32) and No. 9 in passing yards (3,206) over 12 games for the Aggies before transferring to WSU.The left tackle protecting his blindside could also have some familiarity with former UW offensive lineman Maximus McCree among the 28 new additions to the Cougars' program. McCree made seven starts combined for Fisch over his first two seasons in Seattle while battling through multiple injuries. In his first two seasons at the helm, Fisch has a 1-1 record against the cross-state rival, adding more of an onus to come out victorious over another first-year coach. Uniquely enough, however, the former Arizona coach and longtime NFL assistant coach hasn't faced the Cougars at Husky Stadium since arriving on Montlake.Following a 24-19 defeat in 2024 at Lumen Field, UW returned the favor last season at Martin Stadium with a 59-24 victory in Pullman, and the Huskies are favored by as many as three touchdowns ahead of the 2026 installment of the in-state rivalry. This article originally appeared on Huskies Wire: Early Opponent Outlook: Apple Cup Season Opener Offers Unique Test

Cubs cut former 2nd overall pick in MLB Draft
The Chicago Cubs have made a surprising roster move as they continue fighting through an injury-plagued season, designating veteran right-hander Jameson Taillon for assignment. While the decision reflects the struggles Taillon has endured throughout the 2026 MLB campaign, it also underscores just how frustrated the Cubs have become with their starting rotation.Taillon, once one of baseballs most highly regarded pitching prospects, now finds himself searching for a new opportunity after producing the toughest season of his major league career.MORE: One player every MLB team will trade at the 2026 trade deadlineFormer Top Draft Pick Couldnt Turn Things AroundOct 8, 2025; Chicago, Illinois, USA; Chicago Cubs pitcher Jameson Taillon (50) reacts after throwing against the Milwaukee Brewers in the fourth inning during game three of the NLDS round for the 2025 MLB playoffs at Wrigley Field. Mandatory Credit: Matt Marton-Imagn ImagesSelected second overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2010 MLB Draft, Taillon entered professional baseball with enormous expectations. Now 34 years old, the veteran has been unable to recapture the consistency that made him a reliable starter earlier in his career. He made 15 starts for Chicago this season after missing approximately six weeks with a hamstring strain. Across 76 innings, Taillon posted a 5.96 ERA, while surrendering 25 home runs, the second-highest total in Major League Baseball. Those numbers ultimately proved too difficult for the Cubs to overlook, leading the club to move on by DFAing him, despite its lack of healthy starting pitching.MORE: 5 MLB pitchers who will be traded before the trade deadlineInjuries Have Decimated Chicagos RotationThe timing of Taillons departure is somewhat surprising considering how many injuries the Cubs have endured.Chicago has watched much of its projected rotation land on the injured list throughout the season. Cade Horton underwent Tommy John surgery and will miss the remainder of the year, while Justin Steele has experienced multiple setbacks during his recovery from last seasons internal brace surgery. Although Steele could return before the end of the season, its expected to be in a relief role rather than as a starter. The injury issues dont stop there. Ben Brown is currently sidelined with a stress reaction in his neck, leaving his return date uncertain, while Edward Cabrera is also unavailable because of a hamstring strain.MORE: Longest MLB winning streaks this centuryWhats Next for Taillon?Despite his disappointing season, Taillons experience could still attract interest from teams searching for veteran pitching depth.Organizations dealing with injuries or looking for rotation help may view the former top prospect as a worthwhile reclamation project, especially if they believe mechanical adjustments or a change of scenery could help him rediscover his previous form. For the Cubs, however, the decision signals a willingness to move in a different direction as they attempt to navigate one of the most injury-riddled seasons in recent franchise history. Whether Taillon gets another opportunity later this year or waits until the offseason, his next stop will likely come with a chance to prove that the difficult 2026 campaign was an outlier rather than the beginning of a permanent decline. FEATURE | What to expect from Zindine Zidane’s appointment as France’s national team manager
FEATURE | What to expect from Zindine Zidanes appointment as Frances national team managerThis Tuesday, the worst-kept secret in French football will finally be no more as Zindine Zidane will be unveiled as Didier Deschamps successor as Frances national team manager. The French FA has called a press conference in their Parisian headquarters to officially kickstart a new era with Zizou at the helm.Zidane has never hidden his desire to come full circle with the French national team, with whom he has won the 1998 World Cup on home soil and the 2000 Euros. But he was made to wait longer than he probably thought with Deschamps extending his tenure to 14 largely positive years.Contrary to his former France and Juventus teammate, Zidane is given the keys to Les Bleus on the back of a brilliant career in club management. The 1998 Ballon dOr winner is the only manager in history to secure three consecutive Champions League titles (2016, 2017, 2018). Heres what France can expect from the appointment of Zidane.Bringing the best out of the bestIt should be noted now that Zidane has been out of a management for five years a considerable time in football since his resignation as Real Madrid head coach after a trophyless 2020-2021 campaign. Still, both his Real Madrid tenures (2016-2018 and 2019-2021) presented identifiable tactical hallmarks. As a student to both Marcello Lippi his former Juventus head coach and Carlo Ancelotti whom he assisted at Madrid Zidane emphasizes the importance of a tactical set-up that allows players to express their full potential by fielding them in their most natural positions. In Madrid, Zidane notably got the best out of elite players the likes of Casemiro, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. In France, Zidane will be able to tap into a conveyor belt of similar world-class talents like William Saliba, Aurlien Tchouamni, Michael Olise, Ousmane Dembl and Kylian Mbapp. My target is that players have fun on the pitch, was one of Zidanes most remarkable remarks in his first press conference as Real Madrid head coach.Tactical flexibility towards possession-based footballWith Real Madrid, Zidane toyed with different formations. He used a 4-3-3 with Carvajal and Marcelo as overlapping full-backs, a 4-4-2 with a double midfield pivot composed of Casemiro and Kroos, a 4-4-2 with a diamond midfield Zidanes go-to set-up in the 2017 and 2018 Champions League finals with Isco as a No. 10 and a 4-2-3-1 when Zidane had wingersGareth Bale and Vinicius Jr.at his disposal.LEquipereported earlier this month that Zidane was delighted with Deschamps switch to a more proactive attack-minded France team since Les Bleus dire 2024 Euros. The outlet added that ZZ always envisioned his France team with a classic No. 10 a position that Zidane made his own during his playing days with Michael Olises performances catching his attention. The Bayern Munich attacking midfielder became the first player in history to register seven assists in a single World Cup.I want my team to play, spread the ball about whenever they have it, play it forward from the back and make the best possible decision before they even receive it,was how Zidane views football how it should be played.Man-management through experience and auraAs a Juventus player in the late 90s, a Real Madrid player in the early 2000s and a 108-capped France international between 1994 and 2006, Zidane has spent more than a decade sharing a dressing room with elite football players. A considerable strength, on top of being one of the most celebrated football players ever.I worked with many coaches and some gifted players who had big egos. I know the dressing room and I know very well how players think. That is important to me, Zidane says regarding his resume. With national team management being notoriously light on training sessions and tactical discourse compared to club management success hinges more on player harmony, motivation, and managing egos.Given his body of work in Real Madrid, and his unmatched aura, Zidane is expected to commend deference from France players who all grew up ideolizing him. Mbapp was only 8 when Zizou made a mockery of Brazil in the 2006 World Cup quarter-finals. As Isco put it, he is one of the best players in the history of football. So you pay attention to anything he has to say.GFFN | Bastien Cheval
