FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against several players for a post-match brawl following Spain's 1-0 win over Argentina in the World Cup final on July 19.Argentina players Leandro Paredes (three counts) and Nahuel Molina (two counts) have been charged with assault, along with assistant coach Roberto Ayala (one count).In addition, three players have been charged with unsporting behavior: Molina (one count) and Argentina teammate Thiago Almada (one count), along with Spain's Gavi (one count).According to FIFA's Disciplinary Code, a charge of assault carries a ban of at least three matches, while unsporting behavior has a ban of at least one match.All of those charged will have the opportunity to present their case to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, which will then make a decision over sanctions.The Disciplinary Committee received a report from an independent prosecutor, who was appointedto conduct an investigationintothe altercation.A melee broke out after the final whistle that was sparked by Paredes, who violently struck Spain defender Eric Garcia in the throat with an open hand, knocking him to the ground. Paredes and Almada then shoved Gavi to the turf as players and coaches on both teams intervened.Video from the incident also appeared to show Molina throwing a punch to the mid-section of Spain captain Rodri as he ran near midfield with his teammates in celebration immediately after the final whistle. Ashlynd Barker has a different feeling about Florida State football heading into the 2026 season.The standout safety is in his third year with the program, and despite a record of 7-17 over the last two seasons and increased pressure, he feels the Seminoles have the chance to be "super good" this season. Barker acknowledged it's early in preseason practice, but his belief is based on what he felt was a strong offseason and a lack of egos on the team."I was talking to K.J. (Kirkland) on the sidelines after we got off the field from a drive. I was saying, "We are going to be super good," Barker said after the first preseason practice. "It's the first day I know, everyone can say that. I don't know why, but I just feel like there is something about this time. The main thing is there are no egos. You can say something to someone, and they won't talk back."It's a ringing endorsement from Barker, who emerged as one of the top players in FSU's secondary last season. With Earl Little Jr. transferring to Ohio State, Barker will slide into the rover role in Tony White's 3-3-5 defense.Barker recorded 48 tackles, two pass breakups and 3.5 sacks, which was the most by a program defensive back since Derwin James in 2015. He's a key figure for the team in 2026 in an area of the field that should be a strength for the Seminoles."This is probably one of my favorite groups that we've had so far. We've added a couple new people, and we bonded so quickly; that's a special thing," Barker said. The group is great. From the younger players to the older players, everybody can say something to each other, and there is no ego behind it, there is no talk back, you just listen. "Nate Thomas wasn't bad last year when he had to play," Tice said, suggesting continuity even if Guyton misses more time.What sets Dallas apart isn't just stars. The Cowboys are already solving the problems modern defenses throw at them. When teams flood the line with five defenders ("clouds" and 5-man fronts), Dallas answers with pullers and fullbacks, creating mismatches and staying one move ahead."That's why I'm so optimistic. They already showed the signs of going supernova they were good on offense last year. I'm just all systems go," Tice said.Even weaknesses don't feel fatal. The running back room is solid, if unspectacular. But on this team? The Rams' offense is built around stars at key positions, giving them the capacity to run their entire passing game through explosive weapons.The tight end group is another area of strength unique to the Rams. With perhaps "the fastest tight end in the NFL in Terrance Ferguson, who can truly be a sacrificial player from 13 personnel" plus proven producers like Colby Parkinson, the Rams have the ability to seamlessly pivot from multi-tight end sets to 11 personnel when the situation demands."They're always ahead of it," Harmon says of Sean McVay-led units. The Rams stay atop modern trends, blending a multiple-tight end attack with tempo and versatility. McVay's willingness to adapt such as increasing fourth-down aggressiveness from 10% to 29% over his Rams tenure keeps defenses off-balance and maximizes the roster's strengths.Despite naming them No. 1, Harmon admits there is a "little bit of a house of cards element" to the Rams' setup. He points out some serious risks: Nacua's offseason legal troubles, Adams' age (34, unprecedented for a WR1), depth concerns at receiver behind the top two, and the durability of key linemen like Alaric Jackson. There's also the wild card of Stafford's health and age; any significant time missed could derail L.A.'s ceiling.

He has told media members he is working hard finishing his recruiting of post players and inside contributors, explaining that there have been some admission and visa hurdles to overcome.How important are the coming weeks to get this done?They are critical.The Cougars just got a commitment from 6-foot-9 Polish big man Jakub Urbaniak. He looks promising, but is he the answer? Question of the week With the commitment of a 6-9 center from Poland, BYU made a step toward obtaining some presence at the post position. What is your evaluation/opinion of Jakub Urbaniak?Jackson Payne: I think theres a lot to like about Urbaniaks game. He rebounds well and should be a solid rim protector. Above all else, hes capable of hitting 3-pointers, which will go a long way in Youngs offense. Young hasnt had a floor-stretching big man yet in his BYU tenure, and being able to put Urbaniak on the perimeter a few times per game will make the Cougars tougher to defend.Some fans may be underwhelmed by Urbaniaks 6-foot-9 stature, wishing BYU had brought in someone closer to the 7-foot mark; however, Urbaniak is actually taller than BYUs starting center from last season, Keba Keita, who measured under 6-foot-7 at the G League combine. Urbaniak wont be able to leap like Keita could (who can?), but hes still quite athletic and has a deeper offensive bag.Also, 7-footers dont grow on trees, and size alone does not make a great big man. BYU didnt lose to Texas in the NCAA Tournament solely because of a 23-point, 16-rebound outing from the Longhorns 7-foot center the Cougars lost that game because they shot 18% from deep and were lost defensively. Urbaniak being only 6-foot-9 isnt reason for concern.BYU will still add another center in the coming weeks, and perhaps hell be an upgrade over Urbaniak and can be the Cougars starter. But if Urbaniak does end up being the guy, he can absolutely contribute to getting BYU back into the Big Dance.Dick Harmon: I like this addition by Youngs staff for a lot of reasons. Urbaniak fills an immediate need. He is a seasoned, experienced veteran. He can score inside and out. He has very quick footwork and can peel off a pick-and-roll and make it to the rim. He can pick up his dribble and drive. He can work himself around taller and less mobile players. He has hops. Finally, he appears on film to be very athletic, which on a team of drivers, shooters and finishers can really challenge a defense.BYU hasnt had a huge presence at the post since Matt Haarms, a 7-foot-3 Dutch transfer who is now playing for Kagoshima Rebnise in the B League and the Netherlands national team. BYU has lived with smaller post players in the past, including 6-6 Fouss Traore, 6-7 Keita and even 6-9 Brandon Davies and 6-8 Eric Mika. It can be done.I do hope Young brings in another center. If he can bring in a bigger body, a taller athlete, hopefully with some international experience which is what it appears they are after then the post will be solidified.What shouldnt happen is to just go and grab a body like they did last year with Abdullah Ahmed. The Georgia Bulldogs are predicted to close the deal on one of their top remaining recruiting targets in the class of 2027. Georgia is projected to land a commitment from four-star safety recruit Seth Williams, per Benjamin Wolk of 247Sports.Georgia is predicted to beat out the Clemson Tigers for the elite safety prospect. Georgia and Clemson are Williams' final two schools. Both programs will find out soon enough with Williams announcing his commitment on Friday, July 31.Williams plays high school football for Lakeside High School in Atlanta, Georgia. The Peach State star is the No. 19 safety prospect in the country and the No. 19 recruit in Georgia. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back is the No. 409 recruit in the country, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.The Bulldogs and coach Kirby Smart would love to keep Williams home. Georgia has only one defensive back commitment in the 2027 recruiting class, so the Dawgs are looking to add more. Georgia has 19 total commitments in the 2027 cycle including one from four-star safety Adryan Cole. Georgia has America's No. 12 recruiting class. Clemson is not quite as desperate for defensive back commitments as Georgia. The Tigers have five commitments in the secondary. Clemson has made Williams a priority. Clemson has invested a lot of time and resources into recruiting Williams, but it appears that may not be enough. Clemson and coach Dabo Swinney have the No. 13 recruiting class in the country. The Tigers have 25 commitments. Williams decommitted from Clemson in April 2026. His performances, which included two half-centuries, earned him the Player of the Series award and a remarkable rise of 230 places in the ICC rankings.The teenage opener is now ranked 48th among T20I batters with 536 rating points, marking a new career-best ranking.While he still trails India's senior stars, the leap underlines the rapid impact he has made in international cricket and reinforces his status as one of the game's brightest young talents.Ishan Kishan achieves historic milestoneAt the top of the batting rankings, Ishan Kishan retained his position as the world's No. 1 T20I batter with 910 rating points, comfortably ahead of Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan, who is second with 848 points.Kishan had briefly reached a career-high 916 rating points after his brilliant 81-run knock in the second T20I against Zimbabwe. Golf architect Kyle Phillips has broken ground on the course at the private Pandion Club in Estero, Florida. The new layout, intended to invoke the heathland courses of England with Lowcountry influences, is being built on the site of the former Old Corkscrew Golf Club that was closed earlier this year.Phillips plans a par-71 course for Pandion Club, stretching to 7,220 with firm and fast playing conditions and a premium on strategic shotmaking. The new layout is scheduled to open in 2027 with membership capped at 280.The golf-only club will include a Lowcountry-inspired clubhouse and expansive practice facilities. The name Pandion is inspired byPandion haliaetus, aka osprey.The layout features sandy terrain that should promote Phillips' goals. Having built the top-ranked Kingsbarns Golf Links and Dundonald Links in Scotland and having studied courses around the world, Phillips said that heathland courses are situated on inland dunes, like the ones we have in Florida.Old Corkscrew and additional surrounding land was purchased in 2022 by The Hoffmann Family of Companies for $14.5 million, according to property records reported by the Naples Daily News. The Hoffmans purchased the Cottages at Old Corkscrew Golf Club for $4.5 million in a separate transaction.
