SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSean Payton says prototypes like Jaylen Waddle can walk on waterCENTENNIAL , CO - JUNE 4: Jaylen Waddle (17) of the Denver Broncos speaks to members of the media during OTAs at the Broncos Park in Centennial, Colorado on Thursday, June 4, 2026. (Photo by AAron Ontiveroz/The Denver Post) | Denver Post via Getty ImagesWith the Denver Broncos primed to start training camp on Friday, we had a few early acclimation practices this week where the media got to talk with members of the team with Head Coach Sean Payton being one of them. There were a couple of things he mentioned that really stood out to me.The biggest being how he heaped praise upon new Broncos wide receiver Jaylen Waddle this week. I dont think Ive ever heard a coach refer to a players ability as walking on water until yesterday. There are certain prototypes at every position, and then there is that one where if they can walk on water Hes one of those players relative to how he runs, how he stops and his competitive instincts.Sean PaytonThere are certain prototypes at every position, and then there is that one where if they can walk on water Hes one of those players relative to how he runs, how he stops and his competitive instincts, Payton said on Wednesday. There is a clear vision for him. I think the knowledge we had with all the other pieces relative to a trade like that was important. While Waddle is clearly not Jesus out there, what Payton clearly trying to imply is that Waddle is so dang good at what he does that he doesnt really have to coach him. All Payton and his staff need to do is create opportunities for Waddle to break the big plays.Last season, this offense lacked consistency through the whole 60 minutes of a game. Whether it was the run game flailing about or the passing game misfiring for large stretches of the game, Waddle figures to help provide stability and consistency to help both find outlets. Defenses will be forced to account for Waddle, which should open things up for other wide receivers and also running lanes that would otherwise have stacked boxes. No player will benefit more from this addition than Bo Nix. He had to single-handedly put this team on his back in comeback after comeback last year. Hopefully we only have to see him do that a couple of times in the bigger games.0 Comments 0 Shares 34 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNBA probe on Kawhi Leonard could drag into 2027. New incident pops upThe NBA is no closer to wrapping up its investigation of whether the Los Angeles Clippers used salary cap circumvention to pay forward Kawhi Leonard.According to ESPN.com, the probe could last well into 2027 if there is no agreement on what the investigation ultimately finds and whether any punishment could be forthcoming as a result. That could be an issue for the Clippers and Leonard, as a proposed trade to the Toronto Raptorsis on hold. The deal would have sent Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two first-round draft picks, two second-round picks and draft pick swaps to Los Angeles for Leonard, who won a championship with the Raptors in 2019.The NBA league office informed us that as a result of the ongoing investigation involving the Clippers, we would assume the risk of any potential outcome of the investigation impacting Kawhi, the Raptors said in a statement. In light of this, we will wait until the leagues investigation is complete. The investigation originally centered on reporting by journalist Pablo Torre, who looked into whether a $28 million endorsement contract between Leonard and Aspiration Fund Adviser LLC broke NBA rules.Aspiration co-founder Joseph Sanbergpleaded guilty in October 2025to two counts of wire fraud for what the Department of Justice said was a "multi-year scheme involving fake clients, sham payments, and deceptive loan collateral that caused at least $248 million in losses to numerous victims."Sanberg was sentenced in June to 14 years in prison, and Torre's podcast "Pablo Torre Finds Out" won the 2026 Pulitzer Prize in Audio Reporting.New investigation of LeonardLeonard is possibly involved in a new scandal after a new investigation conducted by Torre, WPRI-TV Target 12, a television station based in Providence, Rhode Island, and investigative news outlet Hunterbrook.According to the report, Leonard, his uncle Dennis Robertson, and his former agent Mitch Frankel were minority investors in Rhode Island FC and its stadium project. The project, located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, became Centreville Bank Stadium, a 10,500-seat facility on the Seekonk River, which received $110 million in public funds to help with construction costs. That plan included the development of new affordable housing, shops and restaurants around the stadium. Not a single housing unit has been built so far since ground was broken in 2022 for the stadium and the other projects, although city officials said last month that they secured $30 million in investments through loans. Construction on the project is slated to start later this year and is expected to last three to four years. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: NBA probe on Kawhi Leonard could drag into 2027. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPremier League clubs agree EFL funding proposalThe Premier League's current TV income is about 3.84bn per year, the EFL's is just over 1bn over five years [Getty Images]An end is finally in sight to the long-running funding dispute between the Premier League and the English Football League. The Premier League confirmed its 20 clubs have "unanimously voted" to approve a proposal for a "new strategic partnership", which will be put to the EFL for its members to vote on in the next few days.No figure has been put on the deal, which is due to last 10 years, with both sides keen not to debate the issue in public. On Saturday, Sky News reported the figure as 1.5bn. This has not been confirmed or denied by the Premier League. The Premier League says the proposal is fully funded. It is expected to come through a transfer levy."The Premier League already has long-term funding commitments to invest a record 1.6billion every three years into the wider game and communities," said the Premier League."The Premier League remains committed to finding a football-led solution and looks forward to continuing discussions with the EFL on progressing this proposal."'Clock ticking' on financial stand-off - regulatorThe funding row has been rumbling on since a fan-led review in 2021, which was commissioned by the government following a number of crises in the sport, including the failed European Super League project and the collapse of Bury FC.On a number of occasions, it has seemed a deal was close. In March 2024, the Premier League was warned by government officials that if it and the EFL failed to agree a deal, one would be imposed on them.On Tuesday, representatives of the Premier League, the EFL and the new Independent Regulator met to discuss the outline of a deal."The EFL notes the Premier League's position following its meeting with clubs earlier today, and now looks forward to receiving its formal proposal for consideration," said the EFL."This follows constructive discussions involving the EFL, Premier League and Independent Football Regulator over recent months."The EFL Board will then review the full detail of the proposal, including its potential benefits, implications and alignment with the long-term interests of our 72 clubs, ahead of further dialogue with the Premier League."The proposal will then be discussed in detail with our member clubs to determine next steps."Resistance within the Premier League simply to hand over money was based on a number of factors, including the basic reality they would providing funds to clubs trying to replace them.In other instances, specifically Stoke City, EFL clubs have owners richer than some in the Premier League.Follow your club with BBC SportListen to the latest Football Daily podcastGet football news sent straight to your phone0 Comments 0 Shares 43 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReal Madrid forward convinced he will return to club in the future as Premier League move nearsReal Madrid forward convinced he will return to club in the future as Premier League move nearsDepartures were always going to be important for Real Madrid this summer to prune the squad from Jose Mourinhos perspective. The Portuguese manager has a stacked forward line with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo, Yan Diomande, Brahim Diaz and Endrick, which meant that sacrifices would have to be made in that position.Gonzalo Garcia is one player who was competing for minutes but, realistically, it would be close to impossible for the Spanish striker to displace Kylian Mbappe. Thus, the club agreed to let him leave this summer, with Premier League club Fulham reaching an agreement to sign the player on a permanent deal.Gonzalos Madrid story may not be overNow, according to Ruben Martin of AS, Garcia believes his departure from Real Madrid will not be permanent, with the academy graduate convinced he will one day wear the clubs shirt again. On his way to Fulham. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images)The Spaniard is certain he will return to Real Madrid in the future, even as his transfer to Fulham moves closer to completion.Real Madrid are set to receive around 40 million for 70% of Gonzalos rights, allowing the club to secure a significant transfer fee while retaining a substantial stake in his future. That formula reflects Madrids belief that the 22-year-old still has considerable potential and could eventually develop into a player capable of returning to the Santiago Bernabeu.Fulham offer the opportunity he needsGonzalo impressed Jose Mourinho during pre-season, but competition for places at Real Madrid has made regular first-team football difficult to guarantee.A move to Fulham offers the striker the chance to establish himself in the Premier League while continuing his development at the highest level.Convinced he will return in the future. (Photo by Florencia Tan Jun/Getty Images)The transfer structure also benefits Real Madrid, giving the club the possibility of profiting from Gonzalos future progress rather than losing control of one of La Fabricas brightest graduates.Real Madrid keep the door openGonzalos confidence about returning is significant because it appears to match Real Madrids long-term thinking. As an academy graduate, there is no doubt that he would have dreamt of wearing the royal white jersey and leading the line at the Santiago Bernabeu. For Gonzalo, this transfer is therefore unlikely to be viewed as a farewell. Instead, it represents an opportunity to develop into one of the best young No. 9s in the sport. It remains to be seen how Garcia gets on at Fulham. Playing under a known face like Arbeloa should help him.No one knows what the future holds, but it is very clear that both Los Blancos and Gonzalo see this as a temporary separation and not something permanent.0 Comments 0 Shares 46 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNewcastle captain Guimaraes expected to join ArsenalBruno Guimaraes has won 48 Brazil caps, scoring three goals [Getty Images]There is growing expectation that Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes will join Arsenal this summer, multiple sources have told BBC Sport. The Brazil midfielder has made it clear he wants to join the Premier League champions and Arsenal are increasingly confident of signing the 28-year-old.Guimaraes, who has scored 31 goals in 195 appearances for Newcastle since joining from Lyon in 2022, has been a player of interest to the Gunners all summer.Arsenal will need to improve the 70m bid they made this month if they are to sign Guimaraes, who is due to return to Newcastle training in the coming days.Sources insists a new proposal is yet to be submitted, while Newcastle are adamant that formal club-to-club talks over Guimaraes' protracted switch to north London have not taken place.Nevertheless, Arsenal are aiming to agree a deal in the coming days which could reach 80m.The belief that a move is within reach is not connected to Eddie Howe's decision to step down from his role as Newcastle head coach.Arsenal were interested in signing Morgan Rogers, who has joined Chelsea for 117m, from Aston Villa - but refused to go higher than their 80m valuation. It is understood Arsenal were given the opportunity to match Chelsea's offer for Rogers but declined.Newcastle, meanwhile, now face losing another key player, with Sandro Tonali having joined Tottenham and Anthony Gordon moving to Barcelona.Howe left Newcastle on Thursday after five years in charge, with Matthias Jaissle, manager of Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, expected to be appointed his successor.Howe to leave Newcastle with Jaissle expected to replace himFour pointers to most open Premier League title race in years0 Comments 0 Shares 43 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM2026 USC defense has to make Dante Moore guess and overthinkDan Lanning has another highly talented roster this upcoming season. Many see the quarterback as a reason for buying into the Oregon Ducks this season. Dante Moore will be a big reason for UO's success this year, but so will another Moore on offense. In a recent article, Logan Brown analyzes two big factors for the Oregon Ducks offensive success this season. Here is what he had to say:"While Moore is the headline at quarterback,Dakorien Mooreis a game-breaking receiver for theOregon Ducks, and the pair could work together to bring theDucksto the promised land this season. The Moore-to-Moore connection dominated at times last season, but 2026 is an opportunity for both to take their game to another level. The 2025 season began with an elite connection between Moore and Moore. A 65-yard touchdown against Oklahoma State was their first scoring connection, and their versatility and speed downfield made them an instant threat."Dakorien suffered a leg injury toward the end of the season, which slowed their connection. He finished the season with 34 catches for 497 yards and four total touchdowns. Dante still had a big season throwing the football, eclipsing 3,500 yards through the air and 30 passing touchdowns. With both now fully healthy and continuing to strengthen their bond this offseason, which included a trip to Tokyo, Dante and Dakorien could plant their flag as the best duo in the nation by the end of the season."Now that Dante Moore has his best weapon fully healthy and another season building on their connection, the two are primed for special individual seasons. If both can reach their ceiling, the Oregon Ducks offense will be unstoppable and headed for their best chance at a title. USC's defense has to find a way to break up this connection. That begins with making Dante Moore second-guess and ultimately overthink his decisions and reads on the field.
