The Twins are sending prospects Billy Amick and Bruin Agbayani in return.Minter, 32, has spent plenty of time on the injured list the past few seasons, but has been relatively healthy of late, posting a 2.35 ERA/4.02 FIP in 23 innings so far this year. His strikeout rate is lower than ideal at just 21.7% but hes also walked only two batters all season, leading to an elite 2.2% walk rate. He uses his cutter and fastball almost exclusively, but will mix in an occasional changeup against righties and sinker against lefties just to keep hitters off balance. Minter is owed around $3.5M for the rest of 2026 and will be a free agent after the season.Minter will essentially step into the role vacated by Anthony Bandas season ending injury: a high leverage lefty who will be occasionally asked for more. Minter is still a clear tier below Yoendrys Gomez and Andrew Morris, but gives them another solid, if unspectacular, relief option at the end of games. While that may seem underwhelming, its important to remember that the Twins have been forced to turn to waiver wire pickup Jack Anderson in high leverage spots multiple times in the past week. Between Minter, the acquisition of Tommy Nance a few weeks ago, and major strides forward from Travis Adams and Kody Funderburk in July, the Twins finally have the makings of a real, Major League-caliber bullpen. I would still expect them to be active on the pitching market to shore things up. That could mean another reliever, but I still think a starter is necessary for this team to make a real run at the postseason. Especially if, as expected, Connor Prielipp will have to pitch out of the bullpen over the final few weeks of the season since he flew past his career high in innings a few weeks ago.Amick and Agbayani are the prospects heading to New York. Amick is ranked as the Twins 21st prospect by MLB Pipeline while Agbayani is 29th. Neither are ranked in the post-draft top 50 prospects from FanGraphs, with their prospect group having serious questions about both players ability to make contact. Our own Aidan OBrien has Amick at 29 and Agbayani at 32 in his July Top Prospects ranking.Amick, 23, was the Twins second round pick back in 2024. Amick was a prolific college hitter but concerns about his swing path and lack of hit tool have proven to be correct. At AA Wichita, he has hit .217/.338/.482 with 23 home runs and a rough 28.5% strikeout rate. Without other tools to make up for it (like say, Emmanuel Rodriguez) its tough to see a scenario where Amick makes enough contact to be a valuable contributor. But he was drafted highly for a reason and the Mets clearly saw things they liked.Agbayani, 19, was drafted in the 6th round in 2025. Son of former Big Leaguer Benny Agbayani, the Twins took a swing on him last year thanks to his advanced hit tool and approach at the plate. Unfortunately, injuries have kept him to just 15 total games since being drafted. Agbayani is a bigger name than some Complex League-level wildcard prospects that get tossed into trades, but he should probably be viewed equivalently at this point in his career. Ray retired 11 of the final 12 he faced, while the Giants (47-62) got three RBI from Daniel Susac and three hits from Rafael Devers.The lone San Diego run came after falling behind 3-0 in the second inning. Ty France got hit by a pitch and then Jackson Merrill singled, but Luis Campusano bounced into a six-four-three double play. Bogaerts made sure to get something out of it though, rapping an RBI single into right-center field.Luis Rengifo was the only Padre to reach base multiple times, as he walked in the third the only free pass drawn by the Brown and Gold doubled in the sixth and singled in the eighth. Two of the RISP at bats came following the one-out two-bagger, but Ray got two of his six strike outs to leave Rengifo there.Ray finished with six innings pitched and allowed four hits and one run. Perhaps most importantly, the MLBs leader in walks allowed per nine innings conceded only one in his 10th win. Erik Miller would earn his fourth save.JP Sears, coming off a successful bulk role in Miami on July 25, got stung for a run in the first inning as a one-out walk to Heliot Ramos was made to hurt, but couldve been a whole lot worse.Bryce Eldredge singled the first pitch back up the middle allowing Ramos to go first to third, then Devers hit a deep fly to right center field that Fernando Tatis Jr. leapt in front of the short wall and robbed the 399-foot shot from being a home run. Still, the long sac fly opened the scoring.After a promising Padres first where Tatis singled in his first at bat for the third straight game, Tatis got picked off and Ray faced the minimum. Then the SF bats built on the momentum with a single by Willy Adames, then Susac hit his third home run of the season.After giving up runs in his first two innings, Sears was able to work through trouble in the third as Eldredge and Devers singled back to back with one out and then advanced on a ground out. A flyout by Adames made for the first zero of the game.It looked tenuous in the fourth, as the Giants got a pair of one-out hits from the bottom of their order, then Sears hit Luis Arraez with a pitch to load the bases. After striking out Ramos, Wandy Peralta came on and dramatically struck out Eldridge on a full-count ABS challenge that turned a potential run-scoring walk into an inning-ending punch out.Sears faced traffic in all 3 2/3 innings pitched, as he conceded seven hits and three runs while striking out two and walking one to take his fourth loss.But Peralta allowed a lead off bunt single by Devers and walked Jung Hoo Lee to start the fifth, then uncorked a wild pitch to move both into scoring position. After getting a line out, Randy Vsquez replaced him and allowed a sac fly by Susac before ending the inning with a fly out.In the seventh Vsquez worked out of a one-out, two in scoring position jam after Lees double. Adames hit a bouncer to third that Manny Machado came up with and fired home for Campusano to tag out Devers for the critical second out, then a groundout ended the threat.Vsquez had the longest relief appearance of his career, going 4 2/3 innings and allowing three hits with a walk and a strikeout.Neither team has named a starter for tomorrows second game of the four-game series, which will have a 6:45 p.m. first pitch on Friday, July 31 at Petco Park. WNBA All-Star Kelsey Plum appears to be on the trading block ahead of the league's trade deadline.The Los Angeles Sparks' 31-year-old guard reportedly did not intend to re-sign with the organization at the end of the season, according to The Athletic. Plum signed a one-year, $999,999 deal with the Sparks in April 2026.Plum turned down the WNBA's new-supermax deal worth up to $1.4 million. Instead, she wanted to provide the team with roster flexibility. Months later it appears the two sides are ready to part ways. The Sparks plan to move Plum before the deadline, according to the Los Angeles Times.There are a few options around the league that would suit Plum. The former WNBA Sixth Player of the Year and five-time All-Star deserves to be in a situation where her talent can be maximized, while having the opportunity to play meaningful basketball in the postseason.The hope is that Plum joins a contender. She's already helped the Las Vegas Aces win back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023. She hopes to find another team to help add to her ring collection. However, that team won't be the Golden State Valkyries despite reports of the Bay Area being considered a possible landing spot.The Valkyries could use a scorer such as Plum, as they rank last in the league in field goal percentage, 13th in points per game and 12th in points per scoring attempt.
