Anthony Donkoh has learned much about himself and about the Penn State football team since he arrived in Happy Valley in 2023.Once a four-star prospect, Donkoh has been a two-year starter. He endured injuries and offseason surgery this year, which knocked him out of spring practice.Hes healthy now and back at right tackle, where he feels more comfortable. He has emerged as a team leader in Matt Campbells first season as Nittany Lions coach and has served as a connector among the Penn State returnees, the nearly 40 transfers and the incoming freshmen.When you do things off the field and youre able to bond really well, that immediately transfers to the field, Donkoh said this week at Big Ten Media Days in Chicago. Were building trust and faith in each other before we even step on the field.Its better that we build the bonds off the field first because the on-the-field stuff can be superficial. Off the field, Youre my brother. Thats how it has to be. Thats how it has been. Its been great.The 6-5, 332-pound Donkoh is one of the Lions few returning starters and the only one on the offensive line. Cooper Cousins, whos beginning his third season at Penn State, and Iowa State transfer Trevor Buhr are expected to be at guard. Texas State transfer Brock Riker is the leading candidate at center.Three players will battle for the left tackle job when preseason practice begins next week: Malachi Goodman, Garrett Sexton and Owen Aliciene.Its expected to be a while before the linemen are fully in sync. Donkoh said theyve spent a lot of time together outside practice, including extra film work, eating dinner and socializing.If the guys on the offensive line arent the closest group on the team, nothing good will happen, Donkoh said. It was pretty quick. The guys who were here and the guys who were coming in, we dont have big egos or pride so it was very easy to get to know each other, build relationships and bond pretty quickly. We were able to build trust during spring practice.Donkoh watched in the spring because he was recovering from surgery to repair an upper-body injury he sustained late last season.Its never fun to get injured, he said. You just have to live with it and move on. The recovery wasnt easy, but it hasnt been the worst thing Ive done. It was like a blessing in disguise because I was able to work on the stuff that was hindering me early on in my career and fill in those gaps. I feel like Im the strongest Ive been in my career. Its been good.Donkoh, a former Virginia high school star, received his first significant action in the 2023 Peach Bowl against Mississippi when Olu Fashanu opted out before the New York Jets drafted him in the first round.Donkoh won the right tackle job coming out of camp two years ago and helped put Penn State in position to reach the Big Ten title game and gain a College Football Playoff berth. But he suffered a season-ending leg injury in November at Minnesota.I got hurt and I wasnt able to be part of the team that made that run, he said. I was able to internalize things and know that the worst is never the worst in life.He also endured pain last season, along with the Lions. Expected to be contenders for the Big Ten and national championships, they opened 3-0 before dropping their first three conference games, which led to James Franklins dismissal as coach.When we won our first three games (all outside the conference), you saw a lot of guys being content, Donkoh said. Then we get into a game and we get punched in the mouth, we dont know what to do. We cant be a deer in headlights. We have to keep the focus the same and keep going on the same path.Donkoh played most of last season at right guard, mostly to allow Nolan Rucci to start at right tackle. But now hes back at the position he prefers.At tackle, the game speed is pretty fast because youre going against the fastest D-linemen, he said. At guard its like a boxing match going against the strongest D-linemen. I loved the experience at guard because you dont really get the straight-on, brute stuff at tackle.I like playing tackle a little bit more because I can use my God-given abilities to make a difference, he said.

The rookie has already earned respect for the way he's attacked practices and embraced the challenge of learning Baltimore's offense. Lane still has plenty to prove before the regular season begins, but Flowers believes the rookie is on the right path. Jackson and Lane occupy very different stages of their careers. Chelsea have been fined 10m and given a suspended two-window transfer ban by an independent appeal board after admitting breaches of Football Association agent rules, the FA has announced. The Blues were charged last September with 74 alleged breaches of the FAs rules around agent regulations, dealing with intermediaries on transfers, and third-party investments in players. They primarily related to the seasons between 2010/11 to 2015/16, which came under the ownership of Roman Abramovich. Chelsea self-reported the breaches after they were discovered by club staff following the change of ownership in 2022 and referred themselves to the FA. The club admitted to all 74 breaches but an independent regulatory commission imposed a six-point deduction, suspended until 2027, as well as a 10m fine. Chelsea have successfully appealed against the six-point penalty, which was instead replaced by the suspended two-window transfer ban. The club said on Friday that it welcomed the FAs verdict, although the FA will continue to investigate individual misconduct arising out of this case. A club statement said: Chelsea Football Club is pleased to confirm that a final decision has been reached by The FAs judicial bodies in relation to historical regulatory matters that were self-reported by the club.In 2022, the club self-reported potential historical rule breaches to all applicable regulators. Liam Coen and Ben Johnson oversaw major turnarounds in their first seasons as NFL head coaches in 2025 and they've been linked again by the topic of motivating their teams for the coming season. In a recent interview, Coen said it has been easy to motivate his players with the Jaguars by pointing out how they've been overlooked despite a 13-win season. Coen said on 1010XL that he doesnt see any discussion of his team while scrolling the NFL's website, but sees 40 pictures of Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. During a Friday press conference, Johnson was asked if he'd heard Coen's comments and whether he feels he has the opposite problem with the Bears because there is more hype around the team. Were the number one regression candidate, so I think weve got plenty of motivation ourselves," Johnson said. "We talked about Caleb in the past. Hes used to handling a lot of attention, so Im not worried about that.There are plenty of cases in NFL history of teams that take big strides one season without being able to sustain that growth in the years to come.
