SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFantasy Football NFC East Snapshot: 1 key nugget from each team going into 2026NFL training camp season has arrived. Prepare for the onslaught of information, rumors and hype pieces. But fantasy football managers shouldn't be wary of the influx of info Scott Pianowski has you covered with one key nugget to know for every team in each division. First up is the NFC East. Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2026 NFL seasonMore SnapshotsAFC SouthNFC SouthAFC NorthNFC NorthNFC EastNew York GiantsMalik Nabers is commanding a top-30 pick in global ADP, and it's a check I'm unlikely to write. He's coming off an ACL tear and a meniscus tear, and he had an April procedure to remove scar tissue. The Giants are hopeful Nabers can return to work soon, but there's no guarantee he'll be 100% or even available by opening day. It's also going to take some time for Jaxson Dart and Nabers to develop chemistry; their reps last year had very little overlap.Washington CommandersJayden Daniels is currently the QB5 in Yahoo drafts, a nod to his explosive rookie year. But are we supposed to pretend last season never happened? Daniels was merely QB18 in points per game last season, and most of his indexed efficiency stats were below league code (only his interception rate beat the league average). Daniels is too talented not to improve over last year's injury-wrecked disappointment, but the Washington receiver room looks thin after veteran Terry McLaurin. I can't view Daniels as a proactive pick, especially given the depth of the QB pool this year.Philadelphia EaglesPhiladelphia is one of the smartest organizations in football, so I expect its offensive remodeling to be a long-term success. But it takes time for quarterbacks and receivers to build chemistry, so I'm going to fade Jalen Hurts in this transition year without A.J. Brown. Note that Hurts ran less last year, with a loss of 209 yards and six touchdowns from the previous season. His passing stats could rise with the shape of the offense changing, but Hurts's fantasy case has always been directly tied to the Konami Code. I'll pass on Hurts, instead targeting several interesting QB options in the later tiers.Dallas CowboysWait-on-QB has been a cheat code for many years, and Dak Prescott checks that box this season. He's merely the QB12 in Yahoo leagues to this point, a nod to his boring-veteran status and the depth of the position. It's easy to paint Prescott's upside picture he's working with two elite receivers and the Dallas defense appears weak again. If you head to Jerry World this fall, bring your quarters pinball games are on the way.0 Comments 0 Shares 53 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDetails behind Broncos guard Ben Powers restructured contractDENVER, COLORADO - JANUARY 17: Ben Powers #74 of the Denver Broncos looks on from the field during an NFL divisional playoff football game against the Buffalo Bills at Empower Field at Mile High on January 17, 2026 in Denver, Colorado. (Photo by Perry Knotts/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesLast week, it was reported that starting left guard Ben Powers accepted a pay cut from the Denver Broncos. 9NEWS Denvers Mike Klis reported that Powers accepted a restructured one-year deal that will leave him with less pay but a higher guarantee. Well, now we have the details of that restructured deal for Ben Powers. According to Spotrac, Ben Powers signed a one-year, $6 million dollar deal that includes $5 million dollars guaranteed and another $2 million available via incentives. They state that this new deal freed up $7.5 million dollars in cap space for the Broncos, leaving them with $37,693,906 currently, which is the 6th highest in the NFL at the moment. G Ben Powers signed a 1-year, $6 million renegotiated contract with the #Broncos that includes $5M fully guaranteed, and another $2M available via incentives. The new deal frees up $7.5M of 2026 cap space for Denver.https://t.co/qsG2PU5fy3 Spotrac (@spotrac) July 31, 2026This extra cap space is beneficial for the Broncos because they have a few pending free agents they may want to lock up. As we know, cornerbacks Riley Moss and JaQuan McMillian are pending free agents, as is starting safety Brandon Jones. They also have quarterback Bo Nixs future deal coming up sooner rather than later, so any added cap space will be welcomed by the Broncos. As for Ben Powers, accepting a pay cut is a sign that we may have a competition at the left guard position. This is something I thought could be in play all offseason, and I believe that this is a sign pointing to that. Versatile backup Alex Palczewski, who signed an extension with the team this offseason, played well at left guard last season and has earned the right to compete for that job. The team also drafted former Boise State left tackle Kage Casey in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. He is shifting inside for the Broncos and is expected to focus on the left guard position. Rookies can be plug-and-play players along the offensive line, so he could be someone to watch for that job as well. With that said, we havent been told that a left guard competition is happening, and I believe when camp officially opens today, Ben Powers (if fully healthy) will be out there with the first-team offense. If hes still sidelined or theyre rotating players in and out of that position, then we have something to talk about.0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTenth place stings Wales but 'future still bright'Wales won just one of six games in Glasgow [Getty Images]Wales head coach Emily Handyside said the team's disappointing 10th-place at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow "stings".Wales finished two places lower than the eighth they managed at Birmingham 2022 after managing just one win from their six games, including a 63-53 loss to Tonga in the final match. But Handyside, who steps down from the role at the end of these Games, insisted Wales were still "on a good trajectory and the future is bright".She added: "We're all upset and disappointed with ourselves. "But what we have to remember, and we've been talking about all week, is that for a large part of the games, we've played some really fantastic netball. "We have challenged even the best teams for periods. We challenged Jamaica in the second half, New Zealand in the first quarter. It's all there. It's just bringing it all together for 60 minutes."Wales at the Commonwealth GamesTeam Wales roll of honour at Commonwealth GamesWales Netball secures fresh investment for DragonsHandyside's planned departure from the role was announced in in May and she believes the work done since her arrival in January 2023 - which saw Wales reach sixth in the world in March 2025 - has put Welsh netball in a good place."We have beaten teams like Uganda that we hadn't beaten before. We achieved the highest ever ranking," she said."We've brought in new blood into the team and we're regenerating it. "So there is so much to be pleased about. And although this week isn't what we wanted it to be, they're still on a good trajectory and the future is bright."Handyside was also encouraged by the development of young players, such as Lowri Windsor who made her debut during the Games, for the future."There are another handful of athletes who have just got a handful of caps between them," she said."For them to get these experiences and exposure is key for the Welsh Feathers moving forwards. "There isn't a huge amount of experience across the squad. There's two or three players with a lot of caps, but then the rest are really still learning. "This week's competition will set them up for the future."Dyke eyes World Cup qualifiersWales captain Bethan Dyke echoed Handyside's disappointment at their Glasgow showing but agreed the experience will help as they plan for the World Cup qualifiers. They return to Scotland for the qualifiers in which they will face the hosts, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland aiming to reach the finals in Sydney in 2027."That experience is amazing for all the group," said Dyke."In lots of games we were able to get lots of players out there to experience the different styles of play which we don't come up against very often so it's really valuable."Wales netball results at 2026 GamesUganda (L) 50 - 59Scotland (L) 47-56Trinidad and Tobago (W) 74-30New Zealand (L) 37-65Jamaica (L) 28-74Tonga (L) 53-630 Comments 0 Shares 51 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTwins acquire veteran reliever A.J. Minter from the last-place Mets for a pair of infield prospectsNEW YORK (AP) The Minnesota Twins acquired left-handed reliever A.J. Minter from the New York Mets for minor league infielders Bruin Agbayani and Billy Amick on Friday, reinforcing a thin bullpen ahead of the trade deadline. The 19-year-old Agbayani, who is the son of former Mets fan favorite Benny Agbayani, is a middle infielder who hit .268 in 10 games for Fort Myers in low Class A this season. The sixth-round 2025 draft pick, a native of Hawaii, has been limited by injuries. The 23-year-old Amick batted .217 with 23 homers in 86 games for Double-A Wichita this season, playing first and third base. He was a second-round draft pick in 2024.Minter had a 2.35 ERA in 23 innings with 20 strikeouts and only two walks. He didn't make his season debut until May 26, going more than a year between major league appearances. His 2025 season ended after 13 appearances when he injured his left lat muscle in his back and needed surgery.Minter signed a two-year, $22 million contract with the Mets in 2025. His 2024 season with the Atlanta Braves also was cut short by a torn labrum in his left hip, but when he's been healthy he's been one of baseball's most effective late-game lefties. The 33-year-old, who was a second-round 2015 draft pick by the Braves, has a 3.18 ERA with 456 strikeouts in 382 2/3 innings over 420 career appearances.Minter likely will be the first of multiple Mets players moved before the trade deadline on Monday. They have the second-worst record in the National League. The Twins, who started a nine-game road trip at Seattle on Friday, have a 4.92 relief ERA that ranks fifth worst in the major leagues. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFIFA reportedly exploring expansion of World Cup to 64 teams amid backlash over selling event to private investorsFIFA president Gianni Infantino seems determined to make changes after a successful 2026 World Cup. Amid backlash over Infantinos plans to sell stakes in the event to private investors, FIFA is also looking into expanding the event to include 64 teams, per ESPN.FIFA reportedly sent out a brief titled Potential expansion of the FIFA World Cup to 64 teams on Thursday. FIFA is asking for a decision on the topic by Aug. 14, just over two weeks after that brief was sent out. The document, which was seen by ESPN, said FIFA is considering the strategic implications of a possible expansion of the FIFA World Cup beyond the current format. It asked for an independent agency to be appointed to determine whether and how expanding the FIFA World Cup from 48 to 64 participating teams, starting with the 2030 edition, would impact on the tournament proposition football ecosystem. If the proposal gained enough support, it would merely lead to research being conducted on the topic of expansion. It would not mean 64 teams will take part in the 2030 World Cup yet. The 2026 World Cup was the first of the event to feature 48 teams. In 2025, FIFA explored the idea of expanding the event to 64 teams ahead of the 2030 World Cup, though it didnt get much support. Thursdays proposal marks another attempt to push the idea forward. This proposal comes amid backlash over Infantinos plans to sell stakes of the World Cup to private investors. That decision has drawn massive criticism from UEFA and Concacaf, as well as led to the resignation of one of Infantinos top advisors. In response to that news, UEFA announced a boycott of the World Cup and all FIFA-run competitions. Concacaf did not boycott, but heavily criticized the private-investor proposal. FIFA issued a statement late Thursday trying to clarify its stance. As far as potential expansion, should FIFAs proposal on the topic get enough support by the Aug. 14 deadline, the independent agency would be tasked with delivering its findings by Sept. 11, per ESPN. That is eight days before Infantinos deadline for his private-investor proposal. Given the tense relationship between Infantino and numerous important governing bodies across the sport, its unclear how the expansion proposal will be received so soon after the private-investor idea was met with extreme resistance.0 Comments 0 Shares 37 Views 0 Reviews
