Seahawks rookie S Bud Clark has his best practice of training camp
Seattle Seahawks rookie safety Bud Clark is among the team's young players trying to make a fast impression at training camp. The Seahawks selected Clark with the No. 64 overall selection in the 2026 NFL draft. The idea is for the former TCU standout to eventually be a starter, either as a rookie, or more likely, as a sophomore in 2027.Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald has been impressed with Clark's efforts at training camp thus far."His [Bud Clark] best practice was probably the last practice," Macdonald recently told reporters. "We'll see what it looks like [moving forward]. [He practices with] terrific spirit and he's executing well, communicating well. He's put a lot of work in."Mike Macdonald says Bud Clark is having a good camp. @Seahawks pic.twitter.com/1MwrjVQJen MazvitaMaraire (@MazvitaMaraire) July 30, 2026The Seahawks lost starting safety Coby Bryant to free agency. Veteran Ty Okada is currently primed to replace Bryant, but Clark is competing for reps. Furthermore, Julian Love could be entering his final season with the Seahawks, unless he's willing to restructure his bloated contract next offseason. Clark will eventually fill a need somewhere.A six-year contributor at TCU, Clark brings experience and playmaking ability. He notched an impressive 15 interceptions and 20 pass breakups in college. Clark is currently trending in the right direction at Seahawks training camp. This article originally appeared on Seahawks Wire: Seahawks rookie S Bud Clark has his best practice of training camp

Will Smith Takes Notable Step Towards Dodgers Return
Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith will hit on Friday at Dodger Stadium before the game, stepping into the cage after a long break. The Dodgers shut down Smith after he failed to make progress in his recovery from a neck injury. Smith is battling an inflamed disc in his neck, which has kept him out for more than a month. His injury was meant to be just a few days away from the lineup, but it was clearly more serious than expected.Jun 1, 2026; Phoenix, Arizona, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn ImagesHe got a neck injection in June while continuing baseball activities, but things did not improve for Smith, leaving uncertainty about how long he will miss.To be honest with you right now, I think that hes taking at least a week of really doing no activity to hopefully calm his neck down, Roberts said. Early on, weve been trying to get him ready, moving around and doing some baseball stuff, but he hasnt been able to get over the hump. The uncertainty has caused uneasiness around Smith, but seemingly, after being shut down and stopping baseball activities, his body has responded well to the rest, to the point where he is back on the field doing light work.May 14, 2026; Los Angeles, California, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith (16) hits a solo home run against the San Francisco Giants in the first inning at Dodger Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesWill Smith is hitting againManager Dave Roberts said, according to Dodgers Nation, that Smith is lifting weights, throwing baseballs, and swinging the bat. Additionally, Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez said that Smith will start hitting on Friday and he looks good walking around the clubhouse, per reporter Arash Markazi. From where Smith was just a few weeks ago to now hitting the baseball again, the Dodgers are surely ecstatic that they may get their starting catcher back soon. They have been linked to veteran catchers at the deadline to back up Dalton Rushing, but if Smith is on a good timetable, they may look past adding one. Smith is a player that the Dodgers will absolutely need healthy to give themselves the best shot at a three-peat no one single catcher can replace his experience with the staff and his uncanny ability to make clutch hits or defensive plays. Soul eager for Milan, with report Roma would accept 32m including bonusMore details are emerging on Matias Soul, as its believed Roma want 30m plus 2m add-ons to make a sale, with the player proposed to Milan. The Argentine is not part of Gian Piero Gasperinis plans this season, and with the arrival of Santiago Castro from Bologna, will have even less chance of playing time.It has been said by several sources in recent weeks that Soul and his agent have been shopping him around to various European clubs, with a particular focus on staying in Serie A for Milan.Roma in a rush to sell SoulROME, ITALY JANUARY 10: Matias Soule of AS Roma celebrates after scoring the teams second goal during the Serie A match between AS Roma and US Sassuolo Calcio at Stadio Olimpico on January 10, 2026 in Rome, Italy. (Photo by Paolo Bruno/Getty Images)The asking price had originally been 40m with some Saudi Pro League teams ready to pay, but the player never opened up to the idea of this transfer. He wants to remain in Europes top five leagues, and with that in mind, Calciomercato claim his agent is confident a deal can be done for 30m plus just 2m in add-ons.ROME, ITALY OCTOBER 29: Matias Soule of AS Roma kicks the ball during the Serie A match between AS Roma and Parma Calcio 1913 at Stadio Olimpico on October 29, 2025 in Rome, Italy. (Photo by Paolo Bruno/Getty Images)That might be rather low for the Roma demands, but with time running out to make sales and raise funds for other targets, its not out of the question either.Milan are interested, but right now seem to be looking elsewhere, largely because they need to find a buyer for Rafael Leao first.Elsewhere, there has been interest from Fiorentina, Borussia Dortmund, Besiktas, Sunderland, Aston Villa and Bayer Leverkusen.

Castronova set to start Firebirds' playoff opener vs. Minnesota Monster
Firebirds quarterback Sam Castronova looks for a receiver during a game against the Michigan Arsenal on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the MVP Arena in Albany, NY. (Jim Franco/Times Union) (Jim Franco/Times Union) Between them, Albany Firebirds quarterbacks Sam Castronova and Tyler Kulka put up numbers this season that leave every other passing attack in Arena Football One in the dust.Castronova and Kulka each started six of Albany's 12 regular-season games, combining for 3,199 yards and 76 touchdowns through the air against just seven combined interceptions. But, when it came to selecting his starting quarterback for the AF1 playoffs, Albany head coach Damon Ware knew he had to lean on experience. That means Castronova, who won championships in Albany with the defunct Empire in 2022 and the undefeated Firebirds in 2025, will start Saturday's 4 p.m. semifinal game against the Minnesota Monsters at MVP Arena."Sam's at the top of his game, so Sam gets the slight nod," Ware said. "He's been there, done that. He's just such a phenomenal player."Castronova hasn't played since a June 20 loss to the Nashville Kats, as he was away from the team due to personal reasons for the final two games of the regular season and Albany- which went 9-3 during the regular season- has also had three bye weeks during that time. The Buffalo native was also away from the team during the first four weeks of the season after signing with the United Football League's Houston Gamblers, but returned at midseason and quickly reverted to the form that saw him earn AF1 Most Valuable Player honors in 2025.He's back in the fold this week and Ware called the quarterback's week of practice "phenomenal.""We're really excited to have him back, and it's playoff time," Ware said. "You want your best people on the field, and I think we'll have the best lineup that we've had in a long time this Saturday."That there was even a question as to who would start in the playoffs is a testament to Kulka's rapid development this season. The rookie, whose older brother Tyler Kulka quarterbacks the top-seeded Nashville Kats, won the backup job during training camp and was thrust into the starting role when Castronova left for the UFL days before the season opener. He responded by completing 62.9% of his passes for 1,501 yards and 38 touchdowns while going 5-1 during his six starts."It's just a real special year from our quarterbacks- and with the development we've been able to do with Josh," Ware said, "we're in a really good position for the future, as well."As consistently excellent as Albany's quarterback play has been this season, whether it's been Castronova or Joshua Kulka under center, the team's biggest issue has been the inconsistent availability of the rest of the roster. After a largely stable 2025, Ware has spent this season shuffling his roster on a weekly basis. There's been a revolving door of players going in and out of Albany, especially in the secondary, the defensive line and the receiving corps.Receivers Agiye Hall and Tyrese Chambers helped mitigate a lengthy absence from 2025 AF1 Offensive Player of the Year Duane Brown, but the Firebirds' defense and special teams haven't had quite as easy of a time adapting to the roster changes. With back-to-back bye weeks to rest after wrapping up the regular season July 11 against Nashville, Ware is confident the Firebirds will be as close to full strength as they've been all year when they host a Minnesota team that comes into Albany riding a four-game win streak, including Sunday's 48-32 quarterfinal win over the Washington Wolfpack.Thursday, the Firebirds activated Brown and defensive back Lorenzo Jones from injured reserve, while Bailey Hale was signed as the team's fourth different kicker this year."We are as healthy as we've been in probably eight, nine weeks," Ware said. "We'll finally be able to get some healthier bodies on the field, so I'm just super excited to get it going. We've got a really good, veteran team that's been there, done that. I think that helps us tremendously."Firebirds hosting food driveThe Firebirds are partnering with the Regional Food Bank of Northeast New York to hold a food drive from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday during the pregame block party at MVP Arena. For the Rise Against Hunger Food Drive, fans are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, including canned goods, rice, pasta, cereal, peanut butter and shelf-stable milk, as well as personal care products and baby essentials.SubscribeTheres more to Albany with the Times Union. Why Chaos arent dressing faceoff man after Justin Inacio injury
After Chaos faceoff specialist Justin Inacio suffered a right knee sprain in Carolinas 1312 overtime win over the Boston Cannons and was ruled out for the teams doubleheader in Columbus, general manager Spencer Ford chose not to sign another faceoff specialist to replace him.Ahead of Friday nights matchup with the California Redwoods who boast one of the PLLs top faceoff men in TD Ierlan he explained why. There could be guys who could come in and possibly win, but there is not one person who can come and be the whole package for us, Ford said. Could they get us 40%? Could they be great in the pick game when TD is working to get a switch for [Chris Kavanagh]? Can they stop TD from going forward? He has hurt us at that and usually scores a big goal. Can he be great on offense and enable us to play fast in the 32[-second shot clock]?Ford and the Chaos feel more comfortable staying in-house at the stripe with a rotation of offensive and short-stick defensive midfielders.Ty English, Christian Scarpello and Ray Dearth who took the remaining 23 faceoffs after Inacio exited against the Cannons in the first quarter will continue to take a majority of the faceoffs against the Redwoods and the Philadelphia Waterdogs this weekend. Not dressing a faceoff man has also allowed Carolina to add a fourth SSDM to its roster for the first time this season, which means second-year Ohio State graduate Greg Langermeier will make his season debut in Columbus. Langermeier racked up four caused turnovers, scooped up eight groundballs and tallied two assists in nine games as a rookie in 2025.We decided on an extra SSDM so that we could be ready with personnel on the field to play 32, Ford said. If it works, then that means our guys did their jobs. While there has been discussion on social media about Carolinas decision not to add a faceoff specialist for the weekend, Ford emphasized that he would rather rely on someone already ingrained in the Chaos roster. One external option, Waterdogs backup Connor Farrell, is on Philadelphias protected roster this weekend, so Carolina would need to trade for him rather than sign him.[I am] not against the faceoff, Ford said. [But I am] just not able to make a trade with a team that we are playing tomorrow, and not confident a player can come in and be what we need them to be after not playing for a long period. The Chaos will take on the Redwoods at 6 p.m. ET on Friday and then face the Waterdogs at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday. Both games will be on ESPN+.
