Shedeur Sanders wrapped up his fourth day of training camp with the Cleveland Browns' second-year quarterback taking all first-team reps for the seocnd time this camp.Sanders is battling veteran Deshaun Watson for the starting quarterback job in Cleveland, and so far Sanders has looked like the better option. On the day, Sanders completed 13 of his 22 passes with four touchdowns and an interception. Watson, on the other hand, threw three interceptions to go along with three touchdowns.Saturday's practice marked Watson's second day of camp with multiple interceptions after he had two during the first practice and the second day in a row with an interception. Making any noteworthy conclusions from training camp stats is usually a fool's errand as the playbook is still being installed. Still, it is always better not to have interceptions than to have them.In total through four practices, Sanders has completed 70.3% of his passes with four touchdowns and an interception. British-Nepalese mountaineer Nirmal Purja, 42, was among 10 climbers who were swept away by a deadly avalanche on Pakistan's Broad Peak. File Photo by Narendra Shrestha/EPA-EFEAug. 1 (UPI) -- World-renowned mountaineer Nirmal Purja and nine others were killed during an avalanche on Pakistan's Broad Peak, it was confirmed Saturday.Purja, 42, was among 10 climbers who were swept away by the deadly avalanche on Thursday, leading rescuers on a frantic search for survivors.Officials said Friday they had found two bodies and one body part, but did not confirm who had died."Today, it is with profound sadness and immense heartbreak that we confirm that Nirmal 'Nimsdal' Purja tragically lost his life following the avalanche on Broad Peak," his company said in a statement on Instagram."We have also received confirmation that other members of the expedition sadly did not survive," the statement added.The expedition included Nadhira Ahmed Abdullah Al Harthy of Oman, Sohail Sakhi of Pakistan, Wang Zhong of China, Mallory Geis of the United States, as well as Pur "Yukta" Bahadur Gurung, Kili "Kilu" Pemba Sherpa, Nima Sherpa and Nawang Thindu Sherpa.Purja, known as Nims Dai, reached the peak of his sport in 2019, when he climbed all of the world's 14 tallest peaks in just six months, beating the previous record by nearly eight years."The world has lost one of mountaineering's greatest climbers; a leader who inspired millions through his courage, humility and unwavering belief that human potential is far greater than we often imagine," his company said."More than his extraordinary achievements, he wanted to show the world what was possible when you dared to dream bigger, believed in yourself and refused to accept limitations," the statement continued. Tyrone Taylor is one of many names rumored to be on the block as the Mets get closer to the Aug. 3 trade deadline.And as the Mets continue to start Taylor to showcase the veteran outfielder to potential trade partners, he's been making the most of the opportunity, including inSaturday's 6-2 loss to the Marlins. Taylor's two-run blast accounted for the only offense by the Mets, another blast in what's become a string of them for Taylor.The second-inning blast was Taylor's 10th of the season, with seven of them coming in his last 19 games dating back to July 4. It's the most he's hit in that span in his career and the fourth-most in the National League during that period. He's also leading the majors in slugging (.951) and OPS (1.389) in that span."Hes been phenomenal," interim manager Andy Green said after the game. "Swung the bat as well as anybody in the league. Feels like hes homering every time we put him in the lineup. Absolutely crushed that ball today. Defends the field, plays with energy, runs the bases well; hes been great." Green was asked what's changed for Taylor to give him these types of power numbers and the skipper said it comes down to belief."Hes got a lot of confidence right now. All-Star Luis Arrez will almost certainly be traded ahead of Mondays deadline, and his logical replacement, Casey Schmitt, is out for the rest of the season with a torn meniscus. Saturdays roster moves may not reveal the teams long-term plans at the position, but they certainly clarify some short-term questions. Before their game against the San Diego Padres the penultimate game before the deadline the Giants announced that second baseman Nate Furman had his contract purchased from AAA debut, and will head to the Majors for the first time. That certainly means that Furman will be the immediate fill-in following an inevitable Arrez trade, but it doesnt actually tell us if that was the teams first choice. The other logical solution to play second in August and September is utility player Jess Rodrguez and hes the corresponding move to the Furman call up, as the rookie was placed on the 10-Day Injured List with right elbow neuritis. Furman has a lot of the same traits that drew the Giants to Arrez, the person hell soon replace (for a little while, at least). While lacking in power, the lefty who turned 25 about a week ago is a contact maven. He hit .284 in AAA this year, and has a career .289 batting average in his four-year Minor League career. Furman has just a 12.4% strikeout rate and a 4.1% swinging strike rate, the latter of which is third-lowest among 145 qualified AAA hitters this season. He has a .775 OPS and a 107 wRC+ with Sacramento this year. Like Arrez, Furman heads to San Francisco with a less-than-stellar defensive reputation. If he can make the gains that Arrez did with Ron Washington, that will go a long way towards determining whether he can have a successful MLB career, or if hes just up for a cup of coffee. He also has, for now, limited defensive versatility: while Furman played some third base when he first entered the Minors, hes been exclusively a second baseman for the last two seasons.Furman, who was a non-roster invitee to Spring Training this year, was a fourth-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Guardians. He was traded to the Giants as the Player to Be Named Later in the 2024 Alex Cobb deal, along with Jacob Bresnahan, one of the top pitching prospects in the organization. That trade is looking pretty darn good for the Giants right about now!As for Rodrguez, who mostly played catcher this year but has played some second base and outfield, hopefully his IL stint is a short one. Hes hit .235/.316/.412 for a .728 OPS and a 104 wRC+ through 58 plate appearances in his debut season.

LOS ANGELES In what was a record-setting month for the Red Sox, they may have saved their best win for last.After coughing up a three-run lead and watching Dodger Stadium erupt three-run fifth, the Sox punched back and hard for a convincing 9-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.The win was the teams 21st in the month of July, enabling them to set a franchise record for best winning percentage in a month.But Friday night wasnt just about the win. It was about the opponent and the setting.The newly remade Red Sox have made comebacks a habit of late. Of their last dozen wins before Friday night, eight have seen them from come from behind.This one, however, was different. This one came against the team with the best record in the game, the two-time defending champions.A lot of it, said third baseman Caleb Durbin, is the mental preparation of knowing what type of game its going to be and knowing what type of team (the Dodgers are), how dynamic of an offense they have, being able to score two, three, four runs at a time.I saw it a lot last year (with Milwaukee). We all know what theyre about, so youve just got to be mentally prepared for that type of game to be up, go down and try to battle back again."Battle the Red Sox did. After Shohei Ohtanis two-run homer gave the Dodgers their first lead of the night, the ballpark was electric. But the Sox werent cowed. Two innings later, they struck for five runs of their own before adding one more in the ninth to stretch the lead.The last six runs of the game were all scored by the Red Sox.Weve had quite a few of these wins now within the last month, said Durbin, even in the (just-completed) As series, going down and coming back. But the Red Sox are a different team than they were in April, May and June.Tough opponents dont intimidate them, nor do hostile ballparks.
