The Yankees missed out on trade target LHP Tarik Skubal after the Detroit Tigers sent him to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night, per multiple reports.Skubal could've provide a significant boost for New Yorks starting staff that's been without top arms Gerrit Cole, Max Fried, and Carlos Rodon at different points this season. Instead, the 29-year-old is on his way to the Dodgers who were viewed as the frontrunners to land the ace.The lefty missed a couple of months with an injury of his own earlier this year, but has quickly settled back in as one of the more reliable arms in the game since returning.Skubal is coming off back-to-back American League Cy Young winning campaigns in which he finished with an ERA under 2.40 and struck out 225+ batters across 31 starts each year. He's set to become a free agent at the end of this year.Right up until the trade, the Yankees were seriously involved in trade talks with Detroit even as they heard the Tigers initial price which involved two major leaguers, including a current starting pitcher, and two minor leaguers.In return, the Tigers are receiving prospects outfielder Zyhir Hope and right-handers River Ryan and Brady Smith from the Dodgers.

The Arizona Cardinals have lost one of their defensive linemen for the season. They announced on Saturday that defensive tackle PJ Mustipher was placed on injured reserve, which ends his season. Mustipher suffered a foot injury in training camp, and it was severe enough to not wait it out. Mustipher had been with the team since 2024. He spent the entire 2024 season on their practice squad, re-signed in 2025 and then made the 53-man roster and played in 15 games last season. In those 15 games, he logged 300 defensive snaps, 32 total tackle, one tackle for loss and a tipped pass. He was not a lock for the roster, but he certainly was competing for a roster spot. Now the defensive line room picture might be a little clearer. The Cardinals replaced Mustipher by signing defensive lineman Brodric Martin. For the second straight year, Lake Mary Little League opens the festivities at the Little League Softball World Series. Today, the Florida champions take on Snohomish, Washington, in the first of four games to kick-start the 12-team global softball tournament.Lake Mary earned the return trip to Greenville, North Carolina, by sweeping all four games at the Southeast regional. Chloe Cheek pitched complete games in three of those games, surrendering just six runs (four earned) over 19 innings while striking out 23. The Florida girls piled up 21 runs over their first two games before squeaking out two tight thrillers to finish off the regional, with Avery Little smacking an extra-inning walk-off two-run double and Callie Ousley driving in all three runs in the clincher.Watch Little League Softball World Series on FuboFlorida's opponents from Washington also went undefeated in their three regional games. Madison Locke is their ace, pitching two shutouts with just three hits, five walks and a whopping 22 strikeouts. She also contributed at the plate, going 5 for 7 with two runs and three RBIs. First baseman Avery Calamusa drove in three runs in Washington's 11-3 victory for the championship.One of the teams will see its winning streak snapped today, but it won't be the end of their LLSWS run. The winner will play again Monday, while the loser faces an elimination game Tuesday. The Lake Mary baseball team took advantage of the double-elimination format when they won the title in 2024.
