A major positive emerged for Manchester City from their friendly against Inter Milan
A major positive emerged for Manchester City from their friendly against Inter MilanManchester City drew 1-1 with Inter Milan yesterday at the Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong. Inter Milan would subsequently defeat Enzo Marescas side 3-1 on penalties to complete the formalities of Manchester Citys first preseason friendly. There were a host of good signs to come out of the match for Manchester City. Perhaps the biggest one was the second half performance of young winger Ryan McAidoo. McAidoo was superb in the second half of yesterdays match and he showed more than enough to suggest he could be ready to play a role for Enzo Marescas side this season.Ryan McAidoo made a tremendous impact for Manchester City in the second half against Inter Milan.Manchester Citys preseason matches are a great opportunity for Citys young players to put their best foot forward. Ryan McAidoo did exactly that as he put in a dominant display on the right wing after coming on at halftime. By the time the game ended, it was almost impossible not to think that McAidoo is ready for a role in Enzo Marescas squad next season. From the moment that McAidoo came on, he set about getting at the Inter Milan defence. He tormented the Serie A champions, who struggled to contain the dribbling and directness of McAidoo. McAidoo was also very good in possession, as his upbringing in the City academy system came to the fore. However, the standout feature of McAidoos performance was his ability to beat a man and carry and progress the ball. That was impossible to ignore. In statistics sourced from SofaScore, McAidoo touched the ball 50 times. He completed 30/36 passes and played two crosses. However, the dribbling numbers paint the real picture of McAidoos impact. He completed 2/3 dribbles and made 8 progressive carries. McAidoo also has the ability to carry the ball over distance, which put the Inter Milan defence on the back foot. It was McAidoos game breaking dribble from the halfway line which saw him surge past the Inter Milan defence and hit the post with Inter Milan substitute keeper Ivan Provedel beaten in the 80th minute. The statistics paint a small picture of Ryan McAidoos impact against Inter Milan. However, the eye test revealed more. Anotine Semenyo was Manchester Citys dominant player of the first half from the left wing. Ryan McAidoo was just as impactful in the second half on the right wing. McAidoo showed every trait that makes him so highly regarded at Manchester City. He laid down a marker for what lies for him in terms of what he is capable of.Enzo Maresca was pleased with McAidoos impact and Maresca added that McAidoo is the type of winger that he wants in his squad.Speaking after his teams first preseason friendly, Enzo Maresca praised Ryan McAidoo and how he has performed during Manchester Citys preseason. Also, Maresca said that McAidoo is the exact type of winger he prefers to have in his squad. Speaking on McAidoo, Enzo Maresca said: We were speaking with the club and since day one I said he is the kind of winger I love. He is very aggressive one v one, he always tries, makes the right decisions. But he is very young and he needs the right path. If you look in the last the clubs I was part of, I always ask for those kinds of wingers.Manchester City remain in the market for a winger this summer. However, Ryan McAidoo showed during the second half against Inter Milan that he could be ready to take a major step up this season. McAidoos performance was arguably the major positive to emerge for Manchester City in terms of an individual performance at the Kai Tak Stadium. McAidoo provided a tantalizing glimpse of what he could add to Enzo Marescas side. If he can build on his performance yesterday he will make the case overwhelming for him to play a role for Manchester City next season.

Chamberlain stuns O'Leary with knockout win in Dublin
Mark Chamberlain handed Pierce O'Leary his first professional defeat [Getty Images]Briton Mark Chamberlain stunned Republic of Ireland's Pierce O'Leary as he dropped him twice on the way to securing a 10th round knockout victory, claiming the IBO light-welterweight belt.He had to climb off the canvas himself in the seventh round as O'Leary struck him with a ferocious body shot in front of a capacity crowd in Dublin. But just as momentum appeared to be swinging in the favour of O'Leary, Chamberlain found a breakthrough and managed to get the stoppage late on.He now moves to 18 wins with one defeat, bouncing back to winning ways for the first time since losing to Josh Padley in 2024.This was Chamberlain's first fight since he drew with Jack Rafferty in Altrincham last summer."First of all respect to Pierce for giving me this opportunity," Chamberlain told DAZN after the fight. "I'm not a stranger to an away day and anyone that knows me knows that I will fight anyone and if that means that I have to go into the champions' back garden then I will do that."I've never been hurt before in a fight but that body shot stopped me in my tracks but fortunately I was able to get thorugh it and weather the storm."We've been working on new things in the gym and it's all paid off, I asked Frank (Warren) in the dressing room before the fight if we could bring a show down to Portsmouth, I'd love that. "After a tight and cagey first round, Chamberlain stunned the home crowd of around 7,000 as he landed a flush left hand that sent O'Leary flying back onto the canvas. Chamberlain then found another big shot in the next round as he sent his opponent to the floor again with a short left hook. But O'Leary responded well to the knockdowns, rallied by his home crowd as he pressed on to find a way back into the fight. He then found a breakthrough at the end of the seventh round as he backed Chamberlain into a corner and sent a punishing shot into his chest.Chamberlain was slow to get to his feet but survived the count and managed to avoid major punishment before the bell sounded. O'Leary continued to press on, with Chamberlain looking tired and the Irishman buoyed by the crowd. But Chamberlain struck in the 10th with a combination that saw O'Leary drop his hands and then pressed on, landing a number of clean shots that included a straight right hand to send O'Leary tumbling into the ropes and to the canvas. Fight promoter Frank Warren revealed after the fight that there is a rematch clause in the fight contract that could see the pair fight again in the near future. Barney-Smith outclasses Bellotti Royston Barney-Smith moved to 17-0 after beating Reece Bellotti [Queensberry]British and Commonwealth super-featherweight champion Royston Barney-Smith beat fellow Briton Reece Bellotti earlier on in the night. The 22-year-old from Southampton outclassed Bellotti across 10 rounds to pick up the vacant IBO intercontinental belt.Bellotti took the fight to Barney-Smith, stalking down the southpaw and at times having success as he pushed him against the ropes and unloaded with dangerously intentioned shots. But Barney-Smith boxed smartly off the back foot, picking Bellotti apart with a variety of punches and manoeuvring away from a number of aggressive surges with some smart footwork. The victory takes him to 17 wins without defeat since turning professional in 2022.Tension building as O'Leary faces ChamberlainRafferty and Chamberlain 'war' ends in draw

County cricket's newest arena will 'grow the game'
The sound of leather on willow has been heard for first time at English cricket's newest first class cricket venue.Lancashire County Cricket Club's first game at its second home ground AO Farington in South Ribble saw the Red Rose county beat Kent in the Metro Bank One Day Cup on Tuesday.Mark Chilton, the club's director of cricket performance, said the new ground will "help the growth of the game in the region at all levels" adding: "The beauty of the place is that it is in the heart of the county, making it very accessible."The first new ground to host first-class cricket since Hampshire opened the Rose Bowl in 2001 is modelled roughly on the Hagley Oval in Christchurch, New Zealand.Five years ago the club identified what it described as a "pressing need" for a second ground due to the number of international and domestic matches staged at its traditional Old Trafford home.Although its capacity is 5,000, this was limited to 2,000 for the Kent game and Thursday's match with Notts Outlaws - which teh team also won - acting as trial runs.In addition to the professional oval which will also host two women's 50-over games in September, there is the community oval which will be used throughout the year by the local community. As part of the project, Lancashire County Council has mostly funded the ground's development on the condition that the Lancashire Cricket Foundation makes it available for hundreds of hours of community use.Over the winter, the club is also building an indoor dome training facility, which has been supported with funding from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. The dome is England's second indoor facility, the first opened two years ago at the Park Avenue ground in Bradford. The domes are part of a drive by the England and Wales Cricket Board to build high-class facilities in areas that are desperately lacking suitable places to play.Lancashire said it is "county aligning" with the England Cricket Board's vision of wanting to open up the sport to people of all backgrounds. The new facility is also a women's cricket centre of excellence and hosts competitive matches when Old Trafford is unavailable.Speaking in 2021, the late Sir Howard Bernstein, then club president, said it was "an important step in aiding us to grow the game in Lancashire and help us to extend our reach in the county".Lancashire will continue to use the club's current grounds in Liverpool, Southport and Birkdale, Blackpool, and at Sedbergh School once the new facility has opened.Listen to the best of BBC Radio Lancashire on Sounds and follow BBC Lancashire on Facebook, X and Instagram. It's complete madness, 145m failure could break Liverpool's season
It's complete madness, 145m failure could break Liverpool's seasonA 145m failure could break Liverpool's season before it's started. Just absolute madness.Liverpool have three weeks to go before the Premier League season kicks off. We'd say it's a great chance to have a look at Andoni Iraola's first squad as head coach but then, we'd be shocked at this point if the kick-off involves his first squad.Which is a long-winded way of saying there's lots still to do. Liverpool haven't replaced Mohamed Salah, nor have they actually replaced Ibrahima Konate - the hope with the latter is that Jeremy Jacquet will step up, but that's certainly asking a lot of an unproven 20-year-old.So at least one major signing is necessary and that's just to get the squad back to where it roughly was when the season ended. Which begs another question: what happens if Liverpool can't get it done?Their no.1 target is Bradley Barcola, who Anfield Watchexclusively revealed as an option back in April. Though, he was merely viewed as a potential opportunity back then and has since, thanks to Yan Diomande's rejection, catapulted into the top spot.Bet 10, Get 30 in Free BetsOpen an account and place a qualifying bet of 10 at min odds of 1/5 (1.2) or greater.18+New UK/ROI customers. Self-exclude at GAMSTOP.co.uk. AnfieldWatch is not a licensed betting operator. Offers subject to change. The biggest problem with Barcola is that the likes of the Athletic report that Paris Saint-Germain want 180m for him. That's around 145m, meaning the deal would break the English transfer record, set one year ago when Liverpool signed Alexander Isak.It would actually break it by quite some way, too. The Barcola deal, if PSG get their way, would be the third-biggest deal in history - a lot of money for a player who isn't actually a first-choice starter at his club. This is to say, again in a long-winded way, that a deal for the winger isn't exactly straightforward and there's every chance that it doesn't happen. Not if PSG stick to their valuation and Liverpool stick to theirs, one that's closer to 100m.That would be a disaster. Liverpool are running out of time just to sign Barcola, let alone running out of time to fail to sign Barcola, pick a new target and sign them up.And it's reasonable to assume that any Barcola alternative would be an inferior option and someone who doesn't immediately bring Liverpool back to the squad they had with Salah last season. Again, this would be a disaster.Liverpool, then, can't afford to fail here. It could break their season before it's even begun.

WNBA Rumors: Insider States 3 Teams Are Interested In Kelsey Plum Ahead Of Trade Deadline
Jun 13, 2026; Phoenix, Arizona, USA; Los Angeles Sparks guard Kelsey Plum (10) celebrates after defeating the Phoenix Mercury in overtime at Mortgage Matchup Center. Rick Scuteri-Imagn ImagesKelsey Plum has emerged as the biggest name to watch ahead of the WNBA trade deadline on Sunday, August 2, at 3 p.m. ET.According to a new report, at least three teams have inquired about the Los Angeles Sparks guard as the front office weighs whether to move her rather than risk losing her for nothing in free agency this offseason.Madeline Kenney Says 3 Teams Are Interested in Kelsey Plum Ahead of Trade DeadlinePlum, a five-time WNBA All-Star nicknamed Plum Dawg, signed a one-year, $999,999 deal to return to Los Angeles for the 2026 season.Shell hit unrestricted free agency at seasons end, and reports have indicated she doesnt intend to re-sign with the Sparks. That could be a big part of why the front office is reportedly working the phones before Sundays deadline rather than letting her walk for nothing.Plum hasnt played since June 21 because of a lower left leg injury an absence that has now stretched to more than a month and cost her a trip to the 2026 All-Star Game in Chicago, where Kahleah Copper was named her replacement.SEE ALSO:A Hero, Sickening WNBA World Divided As Sophie Cunningham Shows Love to Fans Anti-Trans-Athlete RalliesBefore going down, though, she was putting together arguably the best season of her career: 23.9 points per game (a career high), 6.4 assists, and 2.2 rebounds while shooting a career-best 52.7% from the field and 38.3% from the three-point line. She returned to full practice for the first time in five weeks on Thursday, which will certainly raise her price tag on the trade market. The Sparks, meanwhile, are reeling. Los Angeles has dropped six straight games and sits at 10-17, good for 11th in the league standings. Its a rough stretch that already cost general manager Raegan Pebley her job earlier this summer. With the playoffs increasingly out of reach, L.A. is reportedly exploring deals that would bring back valuable assets rather than watching Plum leave in free agency empty-handed.Part of the expectation that she wont re-sign, according to reports, is that she wants to be in a genuine win-now situation.Thats where the Plum sweepstakes come in.New York Post reporter Madeline Kenney reported that the New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury, and Atlanta Dream have all thrown their hats in the ring, though New Yorks talks have reportedly cooled. The Liberty are among the teams that have thrown their hat in the Kelsey Plum sweepstakes ahead of Sundays WNBA trade deadline Other teams include the Mercury and Dream, sources said New Yorks conversations involving Plum have since stalled. For the Liberty, the appeal is obvious. New York is already loaded, and Plum, who ranked second in the WNBA in scoring before her injury, would make an elite offense even scarier.A potential lineup of Sabrina Ionescu, Plum, Leonie Fiebich, Breanna Stewart, and Jonquel Jones is the kind of offensive firepower that would be nearly impossible to game-plan against.Atlantas interest centers on need. The Dream could use another proven bucket-getter to pair with their young core, and Plums shot creation would give them a different look late in games.Likewise, Phoenixs case might be the most pressing. The Mercury sits several games back of the final playoff spot and will likely need a near-perfect stretch to get in.Adding Plum alongside Kahleah Copper, Alyssa Thomas, and DeWanna Bonner would instantly push Phoenix into tier-one contender territory, and her gravity as an off-ball shooter would open up driving lanes for the rest of that veteran core.Plum herself addressed the trade speculation, choosing her words carefully. The thing about professional sports is its business, she told reporters. At the end of the day, people have to do whats best for them, and I respect that. And Im not taking anything personal. For me, Im going to be where my feet are.MORE:Bat Signal for a Culture War Jemele Hill Feels Empathy for Caitlin Clark Since She Didnt Ask to Be PoliticizedShe added that, regardless of the noise, she plans to suit up for the Sparks on Sunday even if that means playing under a minutes restriction as she works her way back from injury. In any case, this isnt Plums first time at the center of trade speculation. She originally arrived in Los Angeles via a blockbuster three-team trade with the Las Vegas Aces and the Seattle Storm that also sent Jewell Loyd to the Aces. She re-signed with the Sparks on a one-year deal on April 12, setting up exactly the kind of pending free-agency scenario now driving Sundays speculation. This article originally appeared on Pro Football Network.
