SPORTS.YAHOO.COMF1 LIVE | Tsunoda snubs series switch as Russell welcomes F1 breakWelcome to GPblog's daily live blog, where we'll keep you updated with all the biggest Formula 1 stories throughout the day.Tsunoda rules out switch and focuses on this difficult scenarioYuki Tsunoda has no intention of walking away from his Formula 1 dream. After he was replaced with Isack Hadjar ahead of the 2026 season, the Japanese driver continues to work within the organization as its reserve driver while searching for a route back onto the grid.A temporary return to Red Bull Racing or Racing Bulls would be possible if one of the full-time drivers were unable to compete for any reason. A permanent comeback is, however, unrealistic given the strong performances of Arvid Lindblad and Liam Lawson. Moreover, Bulgarian talent Nikola Tsolov, who currently leads the drivers' standings in Formula 2, is also waiting in the wings.Opportunities are scarce for Tsunoda, However, GPblog understands that the Japanese driver remains committed to reviving his Formula 1 career rather than pursuing alternatives. Despite interest from IndyCar and Honda's willingness to see the Japanese driver continue in a Honda-powered programme, a move to the American championship is not currently being considered. Instead, Tsunoda's priority remains finding another opportunity to return to the Formula 1 grid.Russell welcomes Formula 1's summer break after demanding first halfGeorge Russell admitted the Formula 1 summer break has come at exactly the right time after a first half of the season filled with frustration. The Mercedes driver acknowledged that the opening 11 races have been among the toughest of his career, with repeated setbacks leaving him looking forward to the opportunity to recharge before the championship resumes. His latest disappointment came at the Hungarian Grand Prix, where a problem off the line immediately dropped him to the back of the field. Reflecting on the season, Russell explained that the entire Mercedes team shares his frustration over how events have unfolded, adding that the focus is now on understanding whether anything within the team's control has contributed to the recurring issues. While he recognized that other drivers have also suffered reliability problems, he admitted it feels as though he has been affected more often than most.Despite the difficult run of results, Russell insisted he is trying to concentrate only on the aspects he can influence rather than dwelling on circumstances beyond his control. Looking ahead to the second half of the campaign, the Briton hopes the tide will finally turn in his favour. After such a demanding start to the season, he also admitted that, for the first time in a long while, he genuinely feels he needs the summer break before getting back behind the wheel.0 Comments 0 Shares 31 Views 0 Reviews -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCommanders training camp: Whose stock is up, down after Week 1?The Washington Commanderswrapped up their first week of training camp on Saturday with three non-padded practices and a walkthrough. Washington enjoyed a day off on Sunday. On Monday, the Commanders will be in pads for the first time since camp opened. It was a good opening week for the defense, which, by all accounts, was ahead of the offense. That's not to say the offense was bad, but, as we often see this time of year, the defense generally gets off to a faster start. Washington's situation is a bit different, though, with two new coordinators.Defensive coordinator Daronte Jones has thrown a variety of looks at quarterback Jayden Daniels. It's been a great learning experience for Daniels and offensive coordinator David Blough so early in camp. Here is a look at whose stock is up and whose is down after Week 1.Stock up: RB Rachaad WhiteThere are some positions that can be difficult to evaluate without the pads. The running back position is one. However, you can still see if a running back is finding the right holes, trusting what he sees, runs with explosiveness, and can catch passes out of the backfield. White has looked terrific early. That's not to say Jacory Croskey-Merritt has struggled because he hasn't. White will be a significant contributor in 2026. Nice run by Rachaad White during team drills. Showed good vision on a cutback that led to a big gain Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWC) July 30, 2026Stock down: No. 2 receiverWho will start opposite Terry McLaurin? It's early, but Treylon Burks has been the most impressive. Unfortunately, he was sidelined on Day 2 of camp. After missing one day, he returned on Saturday. Burks has the size, strength and pedigree to be a quality No. 2. He just needs to stay healthy. Other receivers have had their moments, too. But has one player stood out to the point where you can say no to Stefon Diggs? Not yet. Stock up: TE Colson YankoffThe Commanders will use the tight ends more frequently under Blough. Chig Okonkwo is the leader, while John Bates and Ben Sinnott will also have significant roles, too. Colson Yankoff said, "Don't forget about me." The third-year player, who went undrafted in 2024, has made Washington's roster in each of the last two seasons. He's a terrific athlete and a standout on special teams. A former running back and receiver in college, Yankoff could be an offensive weapon for Blough. Colson Yankoff had a terrific catch on a deep throw down the middle from Kaliakmanis. Tight coverage. Yankoff up high and fell hard in end zone but hung on to the ball. John Keim (@john_keim) July 30, 2026Stock down: Center positionOn the first day of training camp, center Nick Allegretti went down with an injury. Head coach Dan Quinn later revealed it was a calf strain and would keep him out for around a week. That meant a big opportunity for Julian Good-Jones and rookie sixth-round pick Matt Gulbin. They struggled, leading Washington to have others, such as Brandon Coleman and Trent Scott, take snaps on the side. Don't blame Good-Jones and Gulbin. The duo has a combined two NFL snaps. This is on the Commanders for not bringing in a quality backup to Allegretti, who is also no sure thing at center either. On Sunday, Washington signed Trey Hill while Allegretti is sidelined. He will bring depth to the position.Stock up: EDGE Odafe OwehIf you were to name one player who stood out the most in Week 1, it's probably Odafe Oweh. His combination of size, speed, length, power and athleticism is something Washington hasn't seen in years. He looks different out there. And he's making plays every day. If he's not making plays, he's making it easier for others to make plays. Oweh made a play against Jayden Daniels on the first day that should have every Commanders fan excited. Odafe Oweh is hard to miss pic.twitter.com/RATM2iT48f Scott Abraham (@Scott7news) July 29, 2026This article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: Commanders training camp: Whose stock is up, down after Week 1?0 Comments 0 Shares 36 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBarcelona target Fisnik Asllanis move to RB Leipzig very closePhoto by Selim Sudheimer/Getty ImagesHoffenheim striker Fisnik Asllani was willing to put his move to RB Leipzig on hold a week ago as he was still hoping to get a call from Barcelona. It looks like hes done waiting.According to German newspaper BILD, Asllanis move to Leipzig is now imminent and the player has already been authorized by Hoffenheim to stay home and not travel to Austria for the clubs preseason camp.Only final contract details need to be sorted before Leipzig activate Asllanis 29 million release clause, and a deal will be made official as soon as Lepzig sell one of their forwards to make room for the new striker.Asllani and his representatives made it clear they were interested in a move to Camp Nou, but Bara remain focused on Julin lvarez and seem to be looking at other alternatives if the Argentina forward is not signed.Benfica striker Vangelis Pavlidis is the latest name added to the list, while Dusan Vlahovic is still dreaming of a move to Bara and is willing to lower his salary demands. Victor Osimhen seems on his way out of Galatasaray but the Turkish club reportedly wants over 100 million, and the wait goes on to see who Baras number nine will be next season.0 Comments 0 Shares 37 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNot MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali names former India fast bowler as sharpest cricket brainFormer England all-rounder Moeen Ali has named former India fast bowler and Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra as the sharpest cricketing mind he has worked with, placing him ahead of several well-known figures, including MS Dhoni.Moeen, who has played under some of the game's leading captains and coaches, said his time with Nehra at Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during the 2018 and 2019 IPL seasons gave him a clear idea of Nehra's ability to understand and manage the game.Nehra's coaching journey began with RCB as their bowling coach. The team struggled during his stint, and he faced criticism as RCB failed to perform consistently. However, he was handed a bigger role when he became Gujarat Titans' head coach in 2022. In their debut IPL season, GT won the title, making Nehra the first Indian head coach to lift the IPL trophy.Since then, Gujarat Titans have missed the playoffs only once in five seasons, despite often starting tournaments without being considered among the favourites.Speaking on the Beard Before Wicket podcast, Moeen explained what, in his view, makes someone a great cricket thinker. For me, a cricketing brain is somebody who knows almost every situation of the game. Someone whos got an answeror a theoryfor every situation. Like, they just talk about all aspects. Why hes not that good, why he is good, what should happen in this situation, what could happen, he said, as quoted by News18.Moeen added that whether those ideas work every time is not the main point. But hes got something," he added. And behind that something, theres either data or evidence. Like, Its happened before, and this happened, and this is why this can happen. So the name I am going to give is Ashish Nehra. He is the coach of Gujarat; I had him at RCB for a couple of years. When it comes to cricket brain, this guy knows what hes talking about. Knows how to get a team environment going, knows how to deal with people, players, and coaches. Amazing, amazing cricket brain."0 Comments 0 Shares 38 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBarcelona attacking target closing in on a move to RB Leipzig – reportBarcelona attacking target closing in on a move to RB Leipzig reportBarcelonas search for a new number continues and as time passes by, it appears the club are slowly thinking about alternatives to top target Julian Alvarez. One of those alternatives has been Fisnik Asllani of Hoffenheim, who enjoyed a stellar campaign in the Bundesliga last season, scoring 10 goals while mustering nine assists.Asllani is reportedly keen on playing for Barcelona, but the Catalan club continue to prioritise a move for Alvarez.Asllani closing in on Leipzig moveLeipzig are in pole position to sign Asllani. (Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images)Barcelonas indecision in the Asllani pursuit has now opened the door for RB Leipzig to snap him up this summer.According to BILD, Leipzig are on the verge of signing the Kosovar forward, who will not be joining the Hoffenheim training camp as part of the preparations for the new season. It is clear that Asllani is leaving Hoffenheim this summer and RB Leipzig is the likely destination, though the deal is not finalised yet.The German giants still need to trigger the strikers 30 million release clause, upon which he will be free to join Leipzig and become a part of the team heading into the new season. The report does mention Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund as interested parties in the young forward, but RB Leipzig are the best-placed team right now.A glimmber of hope for BarcelonaBarcelona are not completely out yet. (Photo by Neil Baynes/Getty Images)But as mentioned earlier, the deal is not done and it appears Leipzig are hesitating in meeting Asllanis release clause. That is because Leipzig are already stacked in the goalscoring department, boasting the services of Conrad Harder, Romulo and 17-year-old Samba Konate. If Leipzig are to trigger the release clause, they must get rid of at least one of these three players. Until, the club have their hands tied. This could be an opportunity for Barcelona to make a move, especially knowing that Asllani would be keen on a move to Camp Nou.But for now, the Catalans are expected to remain put and wait for Alvarez while trying to keep hold of Ferran Torres, who continues to be on PSGs radar.0 Comments 0 Shares 38 Views 0 Reviews
