Coventry sign Brighton goalkeeper Rushworth after loan
Carl Rushworth won the Championship's Golden Glove Award for 2025-26 [Getty Images]Coventry City have signed 25-year-old goalkeeper Carl Rushworth from Brighton & Hove Albion following his successful loan at the CBS Arena. The deal is reportedly worth a club record 22m but neither club has made the fee public, nor has the length of his "long-term contract" been revealed.Rushworth played in all 46 of Coventry's league games last season, keeping 17 clean sheets as they won the Championship to end their 25-year wait to return to the Premier League."I'm really happy, there's so many emotions that I've got," said Rushworth."There's excitement, I can finally relax knowing it's done and that I'm back with the boys and at a club I loved being at."Rushworth never made a senior appearance for Brighton and experienced six different loans over seven years having signed from hometown club Halifax Town in 2019."It's great to have Carl back with us on a permanent basis," said manager Frank Lampard."He's a top professional, a great character and he had a huge impact on the team to help us get promoted last season."Find all the latest football transfers on our dedicated page

Commanders WR Terry McLaurin looks like his old self says ESPN insider
"Terry McLaurin looked like himself again."That's how Jeremy Fowler, ESPN football analyst, began describing what he observed at Commanders' training camp on Monday. Fowler was a guest on "Grant & Danny" on 106.7 The Fan."It was hard to ignore that connection between Terry McLaurin and Jayden Daniels with that beautiful pass to start," began Fowler. "McLaurin looked like himself again, and I know last year was hard with the 'hold in' and then the injuries. So he and Jayden Daniels both look like they are on the same page. I talked with McLaurin after practice. He was almost downright giddy about the connection they have, that they are growing again or regrowing. So, that's a positive."Another angle of Terry McLaurins corner touchdown today with a pass from Jayden Daniels #RaiseHail : 1kpag on TikTok pic.twitter.com/Cet8TNEvv7 Lile, Yean, Riley Supporter (@CommandersMuse) August 3, 2026There was another receiver who caught Fowler's eye, other than the veteran No. 1 receiver for the Commanders, McLaurin. The Commanders felt they really needed to go obtain a weapon with TE Zach Ertz tearing an ACL late last season. Consequently, in free agency they signed a tight end, Chig Okonkwo, known not a whole lot for his blocking in the run game, but for getting open as a receiver."I think he is probably their receiver No. 2 right now. You know, he runs routes like a receiver, even though he is a tight end. To me, he is more of a hybrid model. With the absence of another bona fide No. 2, he's probably the 'two' to me. That stood out to me."It has been a topic of discussion the entire offseason: do the Commanders have a receiver who can step up and be a legitimate No. 2 NFL receiver? We know GM Adam Peters didn't think they had a good enough WR2 because in free agency he heavily pursued and made serious bids on both Alec Pierce and Romeo Doubs. The price became what Peters thought was exorbitant, so he changed course.Peters then signed free agent receivers Van Jefferson and Dyami Brown to improve the floor of the receivers position group, but a WR2 remained a question mark. Then in the draft, when the Commanders' turn came at No. 71, they selected WR Antonio Williams from Clemson. Of course, they are hoping Williams will develop and be the answer for a WR2. It is worth noting that Washington in 2025 used the No. 128 selection on WR Jaylin Lane, and in 2024, with the No, 100 selection, they chose WR Luke McCaffrey. If Terry McLaurin is back to being a very reliable WR1, that will go a long way in helping the Washington passing game in 2026.This article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: Commanders WR Terry McLaurin looks like his old self says ESPN insider

Serie A big spenders need money coming in first
Serie A big spenders need money coming in firstThe transfer market has been largely at a standstill this summer, because with the need to balance the books, Serie A clubs find they must sell before signing new players. It is hardly a secret that the budgets of the Italian teams pale in insignificance to the Premier League resources, where even newly promoted clubs can out-bid the biggest Calcio giants. This all means that when they do come to challenging for talent on the transfer market, the focus is on selling in order to fund the reinforcements, so there has to be money coming in before it can go out.Serie A must fund reinforcements with salesBOLOGNA, ITALY MAY 23: Cristian Chivu head coach of FC Internazionale during the Serie A match between Bologna FC 1909 and FC Internazionale at Renato DallAra Stadium on May 23, 2026 in Bologna, Italy. (Photo by Alessandro Sabattini/Getty Images)There are exceptions, as Como are bank-rolled by rich owners and their rapid rise to the top allows for some leeway before the UEFA Financial Fair Play rules kick in.Napoli are the most hamstrung by this balancing act, as they failed to keep on the straight at narrow, so this season even in Serie A there can be no new arrivals until someone has first left. This makes the sudden collapse of the Jesper Lindstrom move to Schalke 04 all the more frustrating for them.Inter are not in a much better situation, as weve seen them miss out on deals that seemed done, while now Cristian Romero is waiting for Benjamin Pavards exit before he can make the transfer from Tottenham Hotspur for 40m back to Serie A.KANSAS CITY, KANSAS JULY 10: Cristian Romero #13 of Argentina attends a training session one day ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Quarter Final match at Sporting Kansas City Training Centre on July 10, 2026 in Kansas City, Kansas. (Photo by Kyle Rivas/Getty Images)Roma have started to push the boat out a little bit with 35m for Santiago Castro from Bologna, but sales will be required before Gian Piero Gasperini can get the new players he has been requesting with increasing irritation.Juventus had a sudden surge of activity, securing Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain after what feels like years of negotiations, and surprisingly swooping for Kerim Alajbegovic from Bayer Leverkusen. This is only partly funded by the done deals sending Joao Mario to Fiorentina and Vasilije Adzic to Sassuolo, both on loan with options to buy at the end of the season within Serie A.More sales are likely to be required to cover this financial output, even if Calcio e Finanza did explain how Dusan Vlahovics outlandish salary made his final season somehow more expensive than buying two top players.Nonetheless, Juve are the highest-spending club outside of England this summer, shelling out 137.15m in fees, compared to Manchester Citys 175.2m, Tottenham Hotspur on 267m, and Chelsea as usual way out in front with 388.95m and counting spent.

Malick Fofana still on Roma’s radar as Nusa alternative
Malick Fofana still on Romas radar as Nusa alternativeMalick Fofana is one of the names on Romas shortlist to strengthen their attacking wingers. The Lyon talent is popular with the Giallorossi management, who have already initiated initial exploratory discussions with the French club, whose valuation is around 50 million. According to Sportitalia, Roma have also resolved any remaining concerns regarding the 2005-born players fitness. Last season, the Belgian was sidelined for a long time with an ankle injury, while two years ago he struggled with a knee problem. The reassurances received about his health have strengthened the interest of the Giallorossi club, which considers Fofana a solid option for the left flank. Despite this, Antonio Nusa remains the priority. The Norwegian continues to be Romas top choice, but negotiations with Leipzig are struggling to unravel. For this reason, Tony DAmico has begun carefully evaluating alternative options.
