Billy Amick, the third baseman on Tennessee baseball's 2024 national championship team, was traded from the Minnesota Twins to the New York Mets ahead of the MLB trade deadline.Amick and infield prospect Bruin Agbayani were sent to the Mets in exchange for left-handed reliever A.J. Minter on July 31.Amick played his first two college seasons at Clemson. His appearances were sparse in 2022, but in 2023 he was a first-team All-American after hitting .413 with 13 home runs, 17 doubles two triples and 63 RBIs in 46 games.Amick transferred to Tennessee ahead of the 2024 season and was an integral piece of the Vols' securing their first national championship. As the starting third baseman, he finished the season with a .306 batting average, 23 homers and 65 RBIs.Amick was a fan favorite with the 1981 hit The Stroke by Billy Squier as his walk-up song. Fans would clap their hands over their heads to the booming beat every time Amick walked to the plate.Amick was picked No. 60 overall by the Twins in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft as the third of eight Vols selected that year.In 165 career minor league games across three seasons, Amick has a batting average of .253 with 31 homers and 114 RBIs. He's spent all of the 2026 season in Double-A, where he's hitting .222 but has flashed his power with 24 home runs and 14 doubles in 88 games. Amick now plays for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the Mets' Double-A affiliate.Before the trade, Amick ranked as Minnesotas No. 21 prospect. It has been nearly a year since Buffalo Bills fans have seen Tyler Bass kick a football.The wait is almost over.Bass hasn't attempted a field goal during the first five practices of training camp at St. John Fisher University, an intriguing absence for a kicker trying to return after missing the entire 2025 season with hip and groin injuries.There is no setback, according to Bills special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers.Bass has been kicking behind the scenes. The Bills haven't reached the point in their training camp schedule when they want to work extensively on field goals.That changes Thursday.Rodgers said the Bills are scheduled to work on field-goal protection as a team for the third time in camp and the first time in pads."It hasn't worked out for us to be on the field quite yet," Rodgers said. "That'll happen later on this week and then again at the stadium. But I don't think he skipped steps."Bass last kicked in a game Aug. 23, 2025, when he made 3 of 4 field goals and both extra points in Buffalo's preseason finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Prior to his injury, Bass had played in all 83 games since Buffalo drafted him in 2020.He had experienced pain during last year's training camp but tried to work through it. The discomfort returned after the Tampa Bay game and the Bills placed Bass on injured reserve before their season opener.He never returned.Bass eventually underwent surgery on his left hip/groin in December. Veteran Matt Prater handled the kicking duties for the entire season.Now Bass is healthy enough to kick. Fans just haven't seen it yet.Rodgers said that's by design though not because the Bills are deliberately holding Bass back."There's a finite number of things that we can get done on the field," Rodgers said.The Bills have prioritized special teams work such as kickoffs and punts during full-speed practice periods. Field-goal protection has instead been worked on during walkthroughs before the Bills put it to the test in pads.Thursday provides that opportunity.Then comes another important test.Bass is returning from surgery and returning to a home field he's never kicked in before.The Bills will hold their Blue & Red practice Saturday at new Highmark Stadium, giving Bass and Buffalo's other specialists an opportunity to begin learning the conditions inside their new home.Rodgers said the Bills plan to get their specialists into the stadium at different times of day to learn how the wind behaves.Bass has another request.Bring on the wind."Tyler was saying he's pushing for a real windy day just to get an idea of what it's going to be like in November or December," Rodgers said. "A real windy day to get in there in practice and get a feel for that stadium."The stadium isn't Bass' only new variable.He's working with two potential holders while Tommy Doman and Mitch Wishnowsky compete to become Buffalo's punter.Rodgers has tried to give Bass concentrated work with each rather than constantly switching holders during the same session."Today's Tommy Doman's day to hold, today's Mitch Wishnowsky's day to hold," Rodgers said. "And try to get both guys involved as much as we can."Rodgers wants the operation to look essentially identical for Bass regardless of which punter wins the job.Eventually, there will be a first real kick back."There was a first kick for him in college. There was a first kick for him in the NFL. There's a first kick throughout the season," Rodgers said. The Jacksonville Jaguars saw center Robert Hainsey follow Liam Coen from Tampa Bay to Jacksonville, and his performance in 2025 rebounded from a disappointing season the year before. His experience in Coen's scheme paid off in a big way, and he became a reliable leader on the offense for the Jaguars.That improvement has now been rewarded, as he was included in Mason Cameron's list of the top 32 centers in the league for Pro Football Focus, coming in at No. 22, with Cameron noting he still could continue to climb."Reunited with Liam Coen in Jacksonville, Hainsey was asked to do a lot to bring the rest of the Jaguars offense up to speed," Cameron wrote. "As a teacher and leader up front, Hainsey proved a useful piece, although his performance on the field leaves room for improvement particularly in pass protection. The run game was where Hainsey was most effective, playing to a 66.1 PFF run-blocking grade. With more time focused on improving his own game in 2026, Hainsey could climb up this list by seasons end."In over 1,000 offensive snaps, including the playoffs, Hainsey allowed 27 pressures, but only three sacks over 613 pass-blocking snaps. He ranked 18th in PFF's run-blocking grade as well.But his value came through more than just numbers; he was instrumental in implementing and organizing the new offensive unit. (AP) Carolina Panthers 2024 first-round draft pick Xavier Legette was carted off the field on Tuesday with an upper body injury.Panthers coach Dave Canales is expected to address the exact nature of the wide receivers injury after practice.Legette was trying to make a catch in the corner of the end zone when he came down hard on the back of his head. Trainers rushed to his side and Legette was later seen wiggling his fingers in the air in front of trainers before boarding a cart.Players shook Legette's right hand before he was taken into the locker room.The Panthers have already lost wide receiver Chris Brazzell, their third-round pick from Tennessee, for the season to a torn LCL injury.
