SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTKO confirm roaring success UFC White House event on Donald Trumps birthday lost $30 millionPhoto by Chip Somodevilla/Getty ImagesDespite describing the event as a massive success, TKO officials have confirmed that the UFC White House event led to massive losses. The UFC White House event was the most anticipated card in the promotions recent history, with a stacked set of fights to commemorate the America 250 milestone.Coming into the event, there had been a lot of talk about the financial investment that Dana White and the UFC had to make. And as it turns out, the event did result in a loss.Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty ImagesTKO confirm UFC White House was a financial loss for themDuring an investors call (via Variety), TKO President Ari Emmanuel called the UFC White House event a huge success for the company.TKOs unique ability to deliver one-on-one live events and experiences was front and center in the second quarter. Nothing illustrates this better than UFC Freedom 250 held in June. This event was a roaring success for our company, the UFC brand and the sport of mixed martial arts, exposure, earned media, audience expansion and a weekend-long fan experience. However, later in the call, TKO CFO Andrew Schleimer did admit that they had to incur a high amount of costs to set the event up, and it led to them accruing $30 million in losses. We incurred significantly higher-than-normal costs, which we partially offset with sold-out global partnerships inventory. As a reminder, we did not sell tickets and therefore did not record any live events revenue.Given the events financial profile, which, as anticipated, resulted in approximately $30 million loss, our margins at UFC as well as on a consolidated basis, were meaningfully impacted.TKO will be discouraged from doing a follow-up UFC eventGiven how incredibly profit-oriented TKO have been since the Endeavor-led merger in 2023, the idea of them doing a second UFC White House event is highly unlikely.Dana White had said on numerous occasions that the event was almost entirely financed by the UFC, with the White House not paying any rights fees or any fees associated with hosting an event.A $30 million loss is no small matter for TKO, even with their profits being in the billions. Profit maximization is TKOs main goal, and that includes loss mitigation. While TKOs affiliation with the current administration is bound to continue across both UFC and WWE, expect less integration going forward.Read more:Stool Ilia Topuria sat on at UFC Freedom 250 reaches crazy amount in auction bidsJustin Gaethje explains why his face looked untouched after Ilia Topuria fightAlex Pereira claims he could have slapped Josh Hokit: I know how to keep my cool0 Comments 0 Shares 16 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMumbai, Mie, Madrid - GB part-time stars' search for sevensAbbie Brown leads out a GB team including Meg Jones (10) and Holly Aitchison (11) at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 [Getty Images]Ellie Kildunne; Helena Rowland, Meg Jones, Jade Shekells, Alex Matthews; Holly Aitchison, Natasha Hunt.Even with Matthews, more usually in the back row, deployed as an emergency wing, it is a punchy England backline.Six of the seven played in the Red Roses' World Cup final win over Canada last year. Before that though, all seven played top-level sevens."Some of the world's best 15 players have come through sevens," says GB Sevens player Abbie Brown. "That Red Roses backline was our sevens squad at one point."So, yeah, it can be frustrating."Brown's exasperation is not that those former team-mates are now excelling in 15s. She is proud of their achievements.Instead, it is that the team that moulded them has been stripped back, scaled down and sent under. In July, Great Britain's full-time sevens programme was scrapped to save money. Instead of training together throughout the year, the men's and women's players only come together for tournaments. When the decision was announced, fears were raised that Britain's ability to compete with the rest of the world would be compromised. They have been realised. Emphatically. Both Great Britain's men's team, which won silver at Rio 2016, and women's team, which has twice come fourth at the Olympics, finished a distant last in the eight-strong top tier of the Svns global series.Next year, they will compete in the second tier with the likes of Belgium, Brazil and China."I think we had over 25 new caps across the year, over 60-odd people in and out of camps," says Brown."So when you look at the stats and how much training we had, we just couldn't keep competing with the world's best."We only had a handful of sessions before we competed against some teams that have been together for the whole of my career."Brown, like the rest of her team, has had to find new ways to supplement her income and support her rugby.Brown has done coaching and mentoring. She has a 15-a-side contract with Premiership Women's Rugby (PWR) side Loughborough Lightning. But she is still searching for sevens."We've not stopped training or doing the most we can - if you enjoy something, then you've got to keep doing it," Brown added."And sevens is exactly where I find my love."To find it Brown has been to India, where she captained the Mumbai Dreamers franchise in the country's Rugby Premier League this summer. Her GB team-mate Ellie Boatman has travelled even further, playing on Japan's domestic sevens circuit for the Mie Pearls. There is now a new option though, closer to home.Tom Mitchell (centre) was part of a Great Britain side that won sevens silver at Rio 2016 [Getty Images]Brown, 30, is one of the marquee players for Ultimate Sevens, a new short-form sevens start-up circuit launching in September. It will consist of four events, staged in Madrid, Cardiff, Biarritz and London, featuring 10-minute knockout matches, with optional timeouts rather than the usual half-time break, contested by six newly minted teams.Tom Mitchell, who captained Great Britain Sevens at two Olympics, is the event's sport and innovations director. While R360, a breakaway 15s event, floundered in the face of opposition from existing unions and a lack of World Rugby ratification, Mitchell aims to complement the existing calendar, rather than disrupt it."Underneath it all is a massive passion for helping the sport to thrive and succeed as well, because I know it can," he said."I'm not coming in here saying that Ultimate Sevens is the white knight and the saviour of a sport. It's not about that."It's about us contributing additional opportunity, both in playing time but also financial opportunity, for players and coaches."That might mean relieving some of the pressure on the international programmes as well."Certainly plenty of Brown and Boatman's Great Britain team-mates are taking up the chance of top-level action on their doorstep. Fifteen of their colleagues, including Svns rookie of the year nominee Finley Lloyd-Gilmour, are joining them in Ultimate Sevens. The benefit is not just Britain's though.Australia's Maddison Levi and Argentina's Luciano Gonzalez are part of the international cast of stars, with the series coming to a crescendo at Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford on 24 September. Will Jones, who co-captained Great Britain Sevens alongside Brown in the past, be there to repay the support her friend has given her during World Cup and Six Nations campaigns?"Meg is definitely going to be there with a sign for you Abbie," says Mitchell."Even if she is training she'll bring the crew down!""She'd better do - I'll be having words if she doesn't!" says Brown.Sevens is still drawing back 15-a-side stars, even if it is now in the stands, rather than in studs.Listen: Sport's Strangest Crimes - BloodgateListen to the latest Rugby Union Weekly podcast0 Comments 0 Shares 20 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMIts a Heavy Relationship Stefanos Tsitsipas Discloses Envy Over Ben Sheltons Dynamic With His FatherAug 4, 2026; Montreal, QC, Canada; Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE) looks on against Martin Damm (USA) in first round play at IGA Stadium. David Kirouac-Imagn ImagesStefanos Tsitsipas has opened up about his decision to end his coaching relationship with his father, Apostolos, while shedding light on his current partnership with coach Thomas Perrin. The Greek also highlighted the unique challenge of father-son coaching dynamics, while expressing his admiration for Ben Sheltons partnership with his father, Bryan.Stefanos Tsitsipas Hails Ben Sheltons Father Bryan as the Perfect ExampleAlthough Tsitsipas father played a significant role in his career as his primary coach, their partnership was often turbulent, with the pair seen arguing during matches. Shortly before Wimbledon, the former world No. 3 confirmed that he had ended their coaching relationship for good, emphasizing that the split was permanent, unlike their brief separation in 2024.Tsitsipas has since gone on to triumph at the Swiss Open Gstaad, ending a 16-month wait for his 13th tour-level title. After kicking off his North American hardcourt swing with a first-round loss to Alex de Minaur at the Mubadala DC Open, he entered the qualifiers for the Canadian Open. The Greek defeated Keegan Rice 6-3, 6-4 to reach the main draw of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Montral. He then claimed a dominant 6-4, 6-4 win over Martin Damm Jr. in the first round.During his post-match press conference, Tsitsipas admitted that his coaching partnership with Thomas Perrin should have started much earlier. He said he had been too patient and too nice in the past, seemingly alluding to his dynamic with his father.Well, its a chapter that should have started a long time ago. I guess I was too patient with my time and too nice with handling certain things, to take so much time to proceed with the change. But its how life works. Certain things come at a certain time, Tsitsipas said. With Perrin having spent many years at renowned coach Patrick Mouratoglous academy, the Greek also spoke positively about working under Mouratoglous guidance.I want it to be done with a coach that I am happy with right now. And hes someone that I trust, he continued. Patrick is also someone that is supervising as well. So these are the people that have been with me since day one, people that believe in the academy, people that want the best for me, and thats the most important, working with those that will bleed for you.Tsitsipas then highlighted that father-son coaching relationships have become increasingly uncommon on the ATP Tour. He pointed out that such dynamics were very emotionally heavy, while acknowledging that they have worked well for Ben Shelton and Alexander Zverev. So that would still be like minority of players coached by their father. The only one I can think of is Zverev, Shelton, he said. You dont see it very often. Its a heavy relationship. And for some it works, which is great. Like for Zverev and Shelton, it works.Tsitsipas even expressed his envy of the dynamic between Shelton and his father, revealing that he wished his own coaching relationship with his father had been similar. He also hailed Bryan Shelton as the perfect example of a father-coach.And sometimes I actually wish, to be honest, I see Sheltons father. Hes an example to me of how a father should be around his child playing competitive tennis. Like hes the perfect example, and I see him, and Im like sometimes wishing things were like that, but unfortunately they arent, he said. But I am a big fan of Shelton. I am a big fan of his father and the way their dynamic works. So I see it as a great example, he added.MORE: Easy To Get Lost in Your Mind Ben Shelton Addresses Title Defense Expectations in MontralUp next, Stefanos Tsitsipas will face a tough test against No. 22 seed Joo Fonseca in the second round of the Canadian Open. Meanwhile, No. 5 seed Ben Shelton will kick off his title defense against Jenson Brooksby, following a first-round bye.If both Tsitsipas and Shelton reach the fourth round of the ATP Masters 1000 event, they will set up a blockbuster battle for a spot in the quarterfinals. This article originally appeared on Pro Football Network.0 Comments 0 Shares 19 Views 0 Reviews
