SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhat can Rangers fans expect from new winger Yokota?[Getty Images]Daisuke Yokota has joined Rangers from Hannover 96 just a month after making his loan move to the 2 Bundesliga side permanent. Yokota spent last season on loan at Hannover from Belgian outfit Gent and the German made the deal permanent last month but have sold the Japanese winger for an undisclosed fee. The 26-year-old made 30 appearances in the German second division and scored five goals as well as setting up four as Hannover finished fourth and narrowly missed out on a chance of promotion. But what can Rangers supporters expect from their new winger?German football commentator Derek Rae has been answering that on social media.According to Rae, Yokota is a left-footed inverted right winger and, while not a particularly physical player, thrives on dribbling. Rae insists there was more good than bad on show from the forward at Hannover where he who scored his five goals from a relatively even mix of starts and substitute appearances. He generally played wide right in Hannover's 3-4-3 and is a threat on the counter and strong in counter-pressing. More of a creative spark than goalscorer, Yokota has been compared to Takefusa Kubo of Real Sociedad who was once dubbed the "Japanese Messi". In the league last season the 5ft 6in winger won nine aerial duels, 234 tackles, and played 32 crosses. He also had 43 shots on goal and scored the only penalty he took. On paper, it seems Rangers are adding that bit of creativity fans felt was missing in their opening game of the season.0 Comments 0 Shares 26 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReport: Chelsea could join Man United in the race for 51m starReport: Chelsea could join Man United in the race for 51m starChelsea Transfer News: Diogo Costa Emerges as Xabi Alonsos Goalkeeper PriorityChelsea are assessing whether to step up their interest in Diogo Costa, with the Porto and Portugal goalkeeper increasingly viewed as a serious target for Xabi Alonso during this summer window. According to Mirror, the Chelsea head coach sees the 26-year-old as a potentially decisive addition as he reshapes key areas of his squad. The thinking is clear. Chelsea have invested heavily in attacking talent, most notably with the arrival of Morgan Rogers for a British record 117million, and attention is now turning to the spine of the side. In that context, Costa stands out as one of the most established goalkeepers available on the market, with a strong reputation at both club and international level.Photo IMAGODiogo Costa clause gives Chelsea a clear routeCostas situation is relatively straightforward by elite-market standards. He remains tied to Porto on a long-term deal, but that contract includes a 60million release clause. That figure is substantial for a goalkeeper, yet it also provides certainty, which clubs value when time is tight and priorities are fixed. For Chelsea, that matters. Recruitment at Stamford Bridge has often involved long negotiations, layered structures and competition from rival clubs. A fixed clause creates a direct mechanism if they decide Costa is the right fit. The key question is whether Chelsea judge him to be worth moving for immediately, or whether they continue weighing alternative options before making a final call.Costa has spent years fielding questions over his future and has done so again following Portos Portuguese Super Cup win over Torreense. His message was measured. Ive been linked with leaving this club for some time now. As Ive done up to now, what I can say is that Im very happy here and, while Im here, I will always be the same player and the same person. He also acknowledged the uncertainty that naturally surrounds top-level careers, saying: As I said, Im very happy here, I very much want to keep winning titles for FC Porto, but we all know what the life of a professional player is like. Its something I cant promise, but what I can promise is my work and my commitment, as I have done since I started playing for the first team.Photo IMAGOChelsea goalkeeper search reflects long-standing issueThis is a position Chelsea have been trying to solve for several seasons. Robert Sanchez has held the role under different managers, while Filip Jorgensen has also been used, but there remains an internal sense that the department could be upgraded. That assessment is understandable. Chelseas strongest eras have tended to feature authority in goal, whether through presence, reliability or elite distribution under pressure. Since Thibaut Courtois left in 2018, the club have had moments of stability without fully re-establishing the kind of undisputed number one that anchors a title-chasing side.Alonsos preference appears to point towards a goalkeeper capable of combining command of the box with composure in possession. Costas profile broadly aligns with that. He is experienced, proven in high-pressure fixtures and already established for Portugal with 48 caps. Those are traits Chelsea are likely to value highly as they look to build a side capable of competing consistently at the top end of the Premier League.Xabi Alonso rebuild entering a key phaseThe wider picture is that Chelseas summer is moving from statement signings to strategic ones. Rogers brought excitement and headline value. A move for Costa would signal something slightly different, a decision aimed at structure, balance and trust in one of the most important positions on the pitch. If Chelsea proceed, they will do so knowing the cost is significant but defined. If they hesitate, there is every chance another leading European club monitors the situation closely. For now, Costa looks firmly on the shortlist, and perhaps near the top of it, as Alonso searches for the goalkeeper he believes can complete the next stage of his project. Our ViewFrom a Chelsea supporters perspective, this report feels encouraging because it points to a problem being recognised properly. For too long, the goalkeeper position has felt unsettled. There have been good moments, but not enough authority, not enough calm, and not enough certainty that the man in goal can win points on his own across a long season.Diogo Costa sounds like the type of signing that makes sense. He is already playing for a huge club, he is Portugals number one, and he seems to carry himself with maturity. Chelsea need that. This squad has plenty of talent, but a team pushing for the biggest honours also needs leaders in key positions, especially at the back. The fee is big at 60million, but top goalkeepers cost serious money and the position is too important to keep patching up. If Alonso truly sees him as the final piece, that is a strong indication that the clubs planning is focused on balance rather than headlines alone. As a hopeful Chelsea fan, the most exciting part is what this could mean for the rest of the side. A reliable keeper gives defenders confidence, helps build play from deep and changes the feel of big matches. If Chelsea want to become proper contenders again, sorting the number one shirt is essential, and Costa looks like a move worth making.Source: Mirror0 Comments 0 Shares 32 Views 0 Reviews
