WWW.FOXSPORTS.COMLast Night In Baseball: The Brewers Are MLB's 1st 70-Win TeamThere is always baseball happening almost too much baseball for one person to follow themselves. Don't worry, we're here to help you by figuring out what you missed but shouldn't have. Here are all the best moments from last night in Major League Baseball: Not only are the Brewers the first team in MLB to get to 70 wins this season, but this is the fastest that Milwaukee has ever hit that mark. And the Brew Crew got there in a game against the Pirates, a team fighting for a wild-card in the NL, with center fielder Jackson Chourio doing a lot of the lifting. Milwaukee went down 1-0 in the top of the third when Logan Henderson allowed a solo home run to Jacob Gonzalez, but Chourio came up in the bottom of the third and evened things back up with a 399-foot blast. First baseman Andrew Vaughn added another solo shot in the next inning to lead off the frame, then rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt singled, followed by another knock by third baseman David Hamilton. That brought Chourio up for the second inning in a row, and he delivered here, too, with an RBI single to center to score Pratt. That ended up being the game-winning hit, as Pittsburgh managed just one more run against Milwaukee. Henderson might have allowed that early dinger, but ended up going six innings with just a pair of runs against him, while striking out eight against a single walk. The Pirates bullpen did a pretty good job on a night when starter Jared Jones lasted just four innings, but the damage had already been done. So! Seventy wins, before anyone else, and the Pirates knocked back under .500. And how did the Brewers get there first? Well Its tough to blame brand new Dodgers starter and prize of the trade deadline Tarik Skubal for Tuesdays loss: he went six innings with six strikeouts against two walks, while giving up four hits and two runs. Two runs was too many for the Dodgers offense, however, and the Cubs took the second game of this series just like the first, pushing Los Angeles losing streak to five games. Thats tied for the second-longest losing streak for the Dodgers since 2019. Los Angeles actually went up 1-0 on a homer by former Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker in the top of the second, but shortstop Dansby Swanson evened things up 1-1 in the third with a 401-foot shot to center field off Skubal. Second baseman Nico Hoerner would then add another run in the sixth on a single, giving the Cubs the run they nearly scored a batter before when right fielder Seiya Suzuki was thrown out at home for the second out of the inning. Skubal would finish the inning but be replaced by Alex Vesia for the seventh, which led to center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong driving in the third run, then, after Vesia was lifted for Evan Phillips, Suzuki singled PCA in to make it 4-1, Chicago. The Cubs added another before it was over, with Hoerner hitting a solo shot off Edwin Daz, and Chicago would win, 5-1. The Cubs are the top wild-card in the NL and five games up on that spot, sitting 5.5 behind the MLB-leading Brewers in the NL Central. The Dodgers certainly arent actually a bad team this is a five-game stretch and all but as MLBsMike Petriello pointed out on social media on Wednesday morning, Los Angeles does have the fifth-worst bullpen ERA in the majors (5.16) over the last month and are 20th in runs scored in the same stretch. Shohei Ohtani isnt a two-way player for an indefinite length of time, too the Dodgers arent weak, but they do have weaknesses, and there are times where those show themselves more than others. But is that good enough for three wins in a row against the Dodgers? Well have to see how Wednesday afternoons series finale plays out. Freddy Peraltas debut for the Rays didnt go so well. Thats the bad news. The good? Tampa Bay won despite his performance. Thanks, in part, to another deadline pickup in catcher Liam Hicks. Batting cleanup, Hicks strode to the plate in the third with the bases loaded and the game tied up, 1-1, and unloaded on 92 mph fastball, low and inside he sent it back 402 feet to right for a grand slam. This is where the bad news comes in again. Peralta gave up an RBI single to shortstop Ezequiel Tovar in the bottom of the inning, then threw a middle-middle four-seamer to left fielder Mickey Moniak, who deposited it into the seats to tie the game right back up. Second baseman Willi Castro then hit his 13th homer of the year in the fourth, giving the Rockies a 7-5 lead over the Rays. Tampa Bay didnt immediately replace Peralta, but got him out a few batters later after he had recorded the first two outs of the fourth: just 3 innings and seven runs on nine hits, with two homers allowed. Colorado would not score again. The Rays bullpen went into shutdown mode, and ended up throwing a combined 7 scoreless innings of relief the game went into extras thanks to Tampa Bay finally scoring again in the ninth. Shortstop Taylor Walls drew a walk and stole second, then DH Yandy Daz singled and stole second, putting the tying run into scoring position with one out. First baseman Jonathan Aranda drove them both in with a single. In the top of the 11th, a wild pitch scored lead runner Ben Williamson after Walls had pushed him to third with a sac bunt. Third baseman Junior Caminero then singled in Daz, who had doubled in between these events, and Tampa Bay was up 9-7 the same score it would win by. The Braves had won five in a row, but were in danger of letting the Marlins get in the way of a sixth-straight W even after third baseman Austin Riley went deep in the seventh to make it a 3-0 game. In the top of the ninth, Raisel Iglesias came into the game up 4-0, and gave up a ground-rule double to second baseman Otto Lopez, then walked left fielder Heriberto Hernndez. Center fielder Jakob Marsee singled, loading the bases, and third baseman Leo Jimnez singled in a pair to cut the lead in half. A fly out meant Miami was down to its final out with the tying run on first, so the Marlins attempted a double steal to try to get both runners into scoring position. It did not work. Thats a tough play Miamis No. 9 batter, second baseman Javier Sanoja, was at the plate. He hasnt been terrible this year, though, and has been hitting decently of late, so with Iglesias still in and struggling a bit, and the top of the lineup due up, this felt a bit impatient. Miami paid for that with the loss, but Atlanta notched its sixth win in a row. Whats a little playful shoving and dead weight between friends? For one night, anyway there is more series to play and all. But the Red Sox really tried to make a point of this all at once. Following an RBI single by first baseman Willson Contreras in the first, third baseman Caleb Martin took White Sox starter Davis Martin over the monster in left for a grand slam. That was no cheap shot, either StatCast projected it at 401 feet if those pesky seats different than that Pesky Pole, mind werent in its path. Left fielder Jarren Duran then followed up with a solo shot to make it 6-0, and in the fifth right fielder Wilyer Abreu hit his 18th homer of the year 7-1. Fast-forward to the eighth inning, and its 13-2, Red Sox. Abreu comes to the plate again, and goes deep, again this one a 419-foot shot to center. Boston got away with an uneasy performance from Patrick Sandoval, who walked four batters and allowed six hits in five innings of work, but limited the White Sox to two runs, anyway. The offense did more than its fair share, and the Red Sox are now a season-best 10 games over .500 with the second-best run differential in the American League, behind only the Yankees. Boston has won six in a row and 24 of its last 27 games please remember that when this team lost on July 1, it was 14 games back in the AL East and 11 games under .500 while being outscored by seven runs. The Sox are +79 since. The Yankees made some moves at the deadline, but their most significant ones might be addition by subtraction getting Anthony Volpe back to the minors, for instance, replaced by the top prospect in the organization, George Lombard Jr., could end up being huge. Lombard introduced himself to Yankees fans with his glove, when he had a backhand stab that turned into a double play in the top of the second inning and then showed off his bat in the fifth with the first hit of his big-league career: a solo homer off Cardinals starter Hunter Dobbins. Lombards not a big power guy his value at the plate in his patience and ability to draw a walk but hes capable of getting hold of one in addition to bashing doubles. And here, that helped the Yankees to a W over St. Louis. Another big deadline get had a notable performance on Tuesday, this time with the Phillies. Second baseman Luis Arraez suited up for his first game with Philadelphia, and made his presence felt right away: batting fourth, Arraez singled in the first run of the game in the first, then hit his 24th double of the season in the third to make it 2-0, Phillies. Arraez would end up scoring a run later in the inning, on a double by left fielder Brandon Marsh, and the Phillies were up 4-0. That was more than enough for starter Jesus Luzardo, who was having one of his unstoppable outings: he went eight innings against the Nationals, striking out seven with six baserunners and no runs allowed. Bryson Stott at third, Bryce Harper in right, Alec Bohm at first and Luis Arraez at second is a defensive alignment that might not work out. But the Phillies believe they need the extra bat, and Arraez who has seriously improved defensively and is once again leading the NL in batting average after a couple of down years might just be the one they need. The Reds called up one of their top prospects, Hctor Rodrguez, and he very nearly got his first big-league hit in his first game in the majors. But almost doesn't count. Luckily for Rodriguez, he did end up on base against the Athletics and score his first big-league run despite that robbery, and Cincinnati won 5-4. There will be time for that first hit later!0 Comments 0 Shares 98 Views 0 Reviews -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDodgers catcher Dalton Rushing dealing with 'partially torn ACL,' status unclear as postseason nearsTheres a reason the Los Angeles Dodgers were so aggressive in their pursuit of two catchers at the trade deadline. Turns out, breakout Dalton Rushing is dealing with a partially torn UCL, potentially putting the rest of his season and postseason in jeopardy, manager Dave Roberts confirmed in a radio interview Tuesday. Roberts said the team discovered Rushings injury a day before the trade deadline, leading to the Dodgers picking up both Hunter Feduccia and Ben Rortvedt on Monday. Rortvedt was thrust into action immediately, catching Tarik Skubals first start with the team Tuesday. Feduccia, however, did make an appearance during the contest. Both players will need to play a significant role for the team down the stretch, as the Dodgers other starting option at catcher, Will Smith, has been sidelined since June with a neck injury.Smith, however, is working his way back and is expected to return before the end of the regular season. Prior to the injury, Rushing was in the midst of a breakout season. With Smith down, Rushing proved to be more than an adequate replacement, slashing .253/.335/.475, with 12 home runs, over 74 games. Feduccia and Rortvedt are unlikely to replace Rushings performance at the plate. Neither player is known for their offensive prowess, with both excelling on defense.Without Rushing and Smith, the Dodgers should be more than fine at the plate. Shohei Ohtani, Andy Pages and Freddie Freeman are all capable of carrying the team, and star offseason acquisition Kyle Tucker is finally showing signs of settling in. Once Smith is back, the Dodgers should be a fully-operational juggernaut. Rushings injury and potential absence down the stretch and in the postseason will hurt, but the Dodgers are more than equipped to handle a momentary absence from one of their breakout stars.0 Comments 0 Shares 99 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMScarlets chief calls for greater WRU transparencyJon Daniels has been at Scarlets for over 20 years [Huw Evans Picture Agency]Scarlets managing director Jon Daniels has called for greater transparency from the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) as their future hangs in the balance.Welsh rugby's governing body has outlined its plans to cut the number of professional teams from four to three by 2028, with Cardiff and Dragons set to be given licences. That announcement has plunged Scarlets and Ospreys into doubt, with the west licence either being awarded to the Llanelli-based side or the Swansea-based rivals.Daniels dismissed the notion that a merger between the teams - which was close, but ultimately scrapped in 2019 - is a consideration at this stage."There is currently no merger proposal on the table, so no, that is not an active discussion," said Daniels."Before we enter that phase of things, we have to collectively understand why we have to go from four to three in the first place."Scarlets vow to remain at heart of west WalesWRU confirms Ospreys or Scarlets will be cutScarlets sign Wales fly-half Anscombe from BayonneWRU chiefs have said the process to decide the framework for the final decision will begin in December and finish before the end of the 2026-27 campaign.Daniels believes there is scope to continue with four Welsh regions, and would like the WRU to explain its rationale for removing a team in the west."From a club perspective, we feel that the decision, and the justification, for moving from four [clubs] to three needs more work," Daniels added."I understand that there is data which has been used to come up with this decision. It hasn't been shared. We will really call for transparency in that discussion."These are decisions that are going to have a long-lasting effect, not just on rugby, but on communities in west Wales. I think that needs a proper airing publicly."He added: "Our position is that before you can come out and make statements which have such an impact on people in Wales, I still feel there is a discussion and justification needed for the move to reduce the number of teams."Welsh rugby should be able to accommodate four teams, just as they do in Ireland and other countries. "If there is data and evidence that we can't, then let's have the discussion about how you reduce the number of teams."Even then, I think we would struggle to see how that should be isolated to the west and not be a broader Welsh rugby challenge to face."Daniels says it is Scarlets' duty to ensure the uncertainty surrounding them does not creep into their on-field performance.Instead, he feels the WRU's current stance should unite Scarlets and wants to see everyone, players, supporters and staff, fighting for their future.Welsh rugby's ins, outs and re-signings for 2026-27"What we can control is how we prepare for this coming season, and we can show, both on and off the field, why Scarlets is such an integral part of Welsh rugby," Daniels added."The history, the heritage, the Welsh language, and also the facilities such as Parc y Scarlets. [We must] continue to develop Welsh international players as we always have done."If this continues, and this is how it will be, we are facing a battle. We have to be up for the fight."Our message is that we are here and we aim to stay here, continuing to play a key role in Welsh rugby."We are going to fight, and we want them [supporters] to fight with us."0 Comments 0 Shares 96 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMECB 'unhappy' as Ireland defy England's policy, host Afghanistan for ODI seriesThe England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is reportedly unhappy with Cricket Ireland for hosting Afghanistan in a five-match ODI series, even though England continue to play Afghanistan in ICC tournaments. The five-match ODI series between Ireland and Afghanistan began on Wednesday in Bready. According to a report in The Guardian, Ireland's decision to host Afghanistan could affect its future cricket ties with England.Ireland's move has put its relationship with the ECB under strain. England have refused to play bilateral cricket against Afghanistan because of the Taliban regime's restrictions on women's rights. The ECB's stance is based on concerns over what its chair, Richard Thompson, has described as the Taliban's "gender apartheid".However, England continue to face Afghanistan in ICC events, where tournament points and titles are at stake. The ECB's policy is supported by the UK government, but Cricket Ireland has taken a different approach. Ireland has built close ties with the Afghanistan Cricket Board and is hosting five ODIs this month.Under a reciprocal arrangement, Ireland will tour the United Arab Emirates in March next year to play Afghanistan in one Test, three ODIs and three T20Is.England previously played one-off Tests against Ireland at Lord's before the home Ashes series in 2019 and 2023. Next year, however, England have chosen to play Bangladesh in a warm-up Test instead.England's men's team also faced Afghanistan in the Champions Trophy in Lahore last year. While the ECB does not schedule bilateral matches against Afghanistan, it has supported Afghan women cricketers in other ways. This summer, it organised a tour of England for the Afghan Refugee Women's team and invited them to attend the T20 World Cup final at Lord's.Most members of the Afghanistan women's team fled the country after the Taliban returned to power in 2021 and banned women's sport. Many of the players later settled in Australia.Afghanistan remain the only ICC Full Member without a women's cricket programme, but the ICC has not suspended them.Australia, South Africa and New Zealand have also refused to play bilateral cricket against Afghanistan. Ireland, however, has joined the West Indies, Zimbabwe and the four Asian ICC Full Members in continuing bilateral cricket with Afghanistan. The ECB's relationship with Cricket Ireland has already been under pressure. England declined an invitation to take part in the proposed Euro Nations Cup next year, which would also feature Scotland, the Netherlands and Italy, citing a packed international schedule.England's men's team played a three-match T20I series in Ireland last September, but the ECB sent a second-string squad. No further men's matches between the two teams are currently scheduled.England's women's team, however, will host Ireland in a three-match ODI series next month.0 Comments 0 Shares 162 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCardinals rookie RB Jeremiyah Love will not play in Thursday's Hall of Fame GameThe Arizona Cardinals will be without No. 3 overall pick Jeremiyah Love on Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers.Head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters ahead of practice on Wednesday that the rookie running back will not be suiting up Thursday night. With Arizona being selected for the Hall of Fame Game, along with the Carolina Panthers, the franchise gets an extra preseason game and will play four total instead of three like the other 30 teams in the league. Yahoo Sports college fantasy football.Play Yahoo's new College Fantasy Football game: Create or join a league now!Reports about Love have been good through training camp. Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett said that everyone can see how explosive the running back is. The biggest thing for Arizona is deciding how it wants to handle its running back room. Before using the No. 3 overall pick on Love in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Cardinals had signed free agent Tyler Allgeier to a two-year deal. Love and Allgeier join incumbent running backs James Conner and Trey Benson - both coming off season-ending injuries last year - for an all-of-a-sudden deep RB room. The rookie RB finished third in Heisman voting last season at Notre Dame. Love played in 12 games and finished with 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns on 199 carries. He has shown he can handle a heavy workload, but he is now an investment with the Cardinals, and they will look to manage his workload through his first preseason, starting with resting him Thursday. While Love wont play Thursday night, Arizona will be starting another important rookie. Third-round selection Carson Beck will be starting at quarterback. Veteran QB Jacoby Brissett will not play, so Beck is expected to get a good amount of reps in the game. The other quarterbacks on Arizonas roster are Gardner Minshew III and Kedon Slovis as the Cardinals look to determine Brissetts backup to begin the season.0 Comments 0 Shares 162 Views 0 Reviews
