Infantino offers Morocco the 2030 World Cup final in exchange for support as pressure mounts on the FIFA president
Infantino offers Morocco the 2030 World Cup final in exchange for support as pressure mounts on the FIFA presidentGianni Infantino has promised Morocco the 2030 World Cup final in exchange for political backing as the FIFA president battles to save his position, according to The Times. The 56-year-old is under pressure following the fallout from his controversial World Cup investment proposals.Infantino has been based in Rabat since criticism intensified over his failed attempt to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors. The Swiss official spent the past few days looking for public declarations of support from football federations. The silence of Saudi Arabia, one of his closest allies in recent years, has raised concerns within FIFA.Saudi Arabia is due to host the 2034 World Cup, but has yet to publicly endorse Infantino as pressure mounts for him to step aside. The report claims Infantino convened an emergency meeting with senior FIFA officials at the governing bodys Africa regional headquarters in Rabat on Wednesday as calls for his resignation continue to grow.Morocco has been one of Infantinos strongest supporters since his election in 2016 and is set to co-host the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal. However, Morocco has been pushing for the tournaments showpiece final to be staged at the new 115,000-capacity Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca. The Times reports that Infantino has privately assured Moroccan officials the final will be played there rather than at Real Madrids Santiago Bernabeu.Any such commitment may prove difficult to guarantee, with critics arguing that decisions over the final venue could be revisited if FIFA elect a new president.Meanwhile, Infantinos position continues to weaken.Former Portugal star Luis Figo has publicly urged the FIFA chief to resign, accusing him of damaging the organisations reputation. The uncertainty has also created concern among dozens of smaller European clubs, who are still waiting for promised solidarity payments from FIFAs expanded Club World Cup.Elsewhere, Jordan FA president Prince Ali bin Hussein accused Infantino of blackmail. He alleged that during the World Cup he was told backing Infantino for a fourth presidential term would improve FIFAs willingness to help Jordan resolve its outstanding payment issues.UEFA and CONCACAF have also called for Infantino to step down, although CAF reportedly remain on his side. He faces a serious fight to hold on to his role.

Packers coordinators talk Jordan Morgan, Barryn Sorrell and holding for FGs
The three coordinators under Matt LaFleur for the Green Bay Packers -- Adam Stenavich, Jonathan Gannon and Cam Achord -- met with the media on Wednesday following the first six open practices of training camp. One thing that stood out from each coordinator's press conference on Wednesday:Offensive coordinator Adam StenavichOn Jordan Morgan: "He looks really good. A lot of technique stuff we got to clean up with him, but he's out there, he's playing, he's looking like a left tackle in the NFL...he's gotten that confidence. He's our left tackle and he's out there to prove it to everybody."Of all the moving parts on offense, arguably no new starter is more important than Morgan at left tackle. Stenavich said Morgan is finally playing his "natural spot" and looks good focusing on just one position during training camp. Can Morgan provide an upgrade over Rasheed Walker, who really struggled at times in 2025?Defensive coordinator Jonathan GannonOn Barryn Sorrell: "He doesn't make a lot of mistakes. He's a great teammate. He's tough as nails. And he can make a bunch of plays. It's been cool to see him, his versatility...he can do a lot of things."The second-year edge rusher looks to be the early favorite to start opposite Lukas Van Ness while Micah Parsons is out. Sorrell had a big day at practice on Tuesday, featuring a few wins in 1-on-1s and a pick-six during 11-on-11. Can Sorrell take a big leap in 2026 and become a productive player on the edge? The Packers need him to step up early on with Parsons out.Special teams coordinator Cam AchordA demonstration on holding techniques: "Each kicker is different." Achord showed how holding is different for some kickers and in different elements. The special teams operation is working through adjustments with rookie Trey Smack. Can Achord with an amazing tutorial on holding when asked how Trey Smack likes the ball held (LaFleur said yesterday that its different than the way McManus wanted Daniel Whelan to hold it). pic.twitter.com/rBfwDdUQgC Rob Demovsky (@RobDemovsky) August 5, 2026This article originally appeared on Packers Wire: Packers coordinators talk Jordan Morgan, Barryn Sorrell and holding for FGs

Will Jaguars make playoffs in 2026? This NFL expert has them just shy
Are the Jacksonville Jaguars coming back to earth in 2026 after an incredible run to the playoffs last year? That's what USA TODAY's Nate Davis argued in his record projections for all 32 teams. In an article published Aug. 5, Davis has the Jags finishing above .500 but missing out on the postseason.Jacksonville hasn't made the playoffs in consecutive years since the earliest days of the franchise. The four-year run that ended in 1999 with a 14-2 record was far and away the best the Jags had seen before first-year coach Liam Coen led a resurgent Trevor Lawrence and a turnover-hungry defense led by Foyesade Oluokun and Devin Lloyd to win the AFC South last year. Even without two-way sensation Travis Hunter for most of the season, the Jaguars went 13-4 with high hopes for 2026.Shop for Jaguars ticketsThere's a lot of key holes that need to be filled this year, though. Lloyd left in free agency, as did running back Travis Etienne. And the looming dominance of the Houston Texans' defense makes Jacksonville repeating its divisional title a daunting task."Theyre counting on far more production from CB/WR Travis Hunter afterwhat was largely a lost rookie seasonfor the No. 2 pick of the 2025 draft," Davis wrote in explaining his 9-8 prediction for the Jaguars. "Theyre banking on largely unproven LB Ventrell Miller and RB Bhayshul Tuten to be worthy in-house replacements, respectively, for departed Lloyd and Etienne, two critical contributors to last years charge to the top of the AFC South."Davis made predictions for all 272 regular-season games to make his projections. He put the Texans at 12-5 and gave them the No. 1 seed in the AFC."If a David Montgomery-led backfield can take some of the pressure off QB C.J. Stroud, Houston could achieve the kind of complementary football that will make the Texans awfully hard to beat," Davis said. "Four home games and a neutral-site affair in London in the seasons first seven weeks could portend a strong start."That London game comes against the Jags, due in part to Jacksonville hosting only six games this season as EverBank Stadium undergoes massive renovations. The team will play its home slate in 2027 in Orlando.A 9-8 record still puts them in play for a playoff berth. Connor Orr of Sports Illustrated also predicted the Jaguars would finish with that record, but he has them snagging the AFC's final wild-card spot."I think the story of this season will be Coens aptitude as an evaluator of personnel," Orr wrote. "Clearly, some of Jacksonvilles draft picks and offseason personnel decisions raised eyebrows, but that is so often the case with Coens former mentor, Sean McVay, and the Rams setup from which Jaguars GM James Gladstone came."Jaguars preseason schedule 2026All times Eastern.Saturday, Aug. 15:at New Orleans | 4 p.m. | Fox Channel 30Friday, Aug. 21:vs. Carolina | 7:30 p.m. | CBS Channel 47Friday, Aug. 28:vs. Tampa Bay | 7:30 p.m. | Fox Channel 30Jaguars schedule 2026All times Eastern.Week 1:vs. Cleveland | 1 p.m. Sept. 13 | CBSWeek 2:at Denver | 4:05 p.m. Sept. 20 | CBSWeek 3:vs. New England | 1 p.m. Sept. 27 | CBSWeek 4:at Cincinnati | 1 p.m. Oct. 4 | CBSWeek 5:vs. Philadelphia (in London) | 9:30 a.m. Oct. 11 | NFL Network (Fox Channel 30 in Jacksonville)Week 6:vs. Houston (in London) | 9:30 a.m. Oct. 18 | NFL Network (Fox Channel 30 in Jacksonville)Week 7:ByeWeek 8:vs. Indianapolis | 1 p.m. Nov. 1 | CBSWeek 9:at Baltimore | 8:15 p.m. Nov. 5 |Amazon PrimeWeek 10:at Tennessee | 1 p.m. Nov. 15 | FoxWeek 11:at NY Giants | 1 p.m. Nov. 22 | CBSWeek 12:vs. Tennessee | 4:05 p.m. Nov. 29 | CBSWeek 13:at Chicago | 1 p.m. Dec. 6 | FoxWeek 14:vs. Pittsburgh | 8:15 p.m. Dec. 13 | ESPNWeek 15:at Houston | 1 p.m. Dec. 20 | CBSWeek 16:at Dallas | 8:20 p.m. Dec. 27 | NBCWeek 17:vs. Washington | TBDWeek 18:at Indianapolis | TBDThis article originally appeared on Florida Times-Union: Will Jaguars make playoffs in 2026? Gianni Infantino reportedly offered 2030 World Cup final to Morocco in exchange for support amid calls he should resign
FIFA President Gianni Infantino is reportedly scrambling amid calls he should resign from his position. After multiple associations pulled support for Infantino, the FIFA president reportedly told Morocco it could host the 2030 World Cup final if it offers a statement of support for Infantinos re-election bid in 2027, per The Times. Morocco is one of three countries the other two being Spain and Portugal set to host the 2030 World Cup. An exact schedule of games for the event, including its final, have not been released yet. But if The Times report is to be believed, Morocco could earn itself the final if it offers public support to Infantino. The report comes just days after the Welsh, Swedish and Serbian FAs said they would not support Infantinos re-election bid in 2027. The English FA also reportedly planned to pull its support of Infantino. Infantino is up for re-election as FIFAs president in March of 2027. No other candidate has come forward in opposition of Infantino just yet.Unrest and calls for Infantinos resignation have emerged following a leaked report suggesting Infantino wanted to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors. After an outpouring of disdain, which included UEFA boycotting the World Cup and other FIFA events, FIFA eventually nixed the idea. This story will be updated.

Oregon assistant Ra'Shaad Samples reportedly said name was 'DeSean Jackson' after crash that resulted in DUII, reckless driving charges
Ra'Shaad Samples, Oregons running backs coach and assistant head coach since 2024, was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII) and reckless driving because of an April 12 incident, in which the 31-year-old backed his Ford F-150 into a parked car, as reported by The Oregonian/OregonLive.The outlet recently obtained dashcam footage from the Dodge Ram Samples hit. The Oregonian/OregonLive disseminated that video in a Tuesday report. Samples can be seen leaving the scene immediately after the incident, which occurred just before 2 a.m. local time. The owner of the Dodge Ram, reportedly Steven James Young of Eugene, ultimately followed Samples and confronted him for insurance information, as shown in the clip. While the reported footage ends with both cars pulling over, text messages and a phone call suggest that Samples gave Young a false name the night of the incident, per The Oregonian/OregonLive. Samples, though, claimed via his lawyer in a Tuesday statement to outlet that he first offered his real name before eventually saying it was DeSean Jackson in what he characterized as a cheeky response out of frustration.Jackson, a three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver who starred for the Philadelphia Eagles, is Samples favorite football player, he clarified in the statement, which contradicts what Young reportedly purported. According to The Oregonian/OregonLives report, Young said Samples initially declined to exchange insurance information or provide a drivers license on the scene, and that when Samples later texted him a screenshot of the USAA insurance app with information on prior claims for a different vehicle Samples reportedly has since stated that he was driving a loaner vehicle at the time he also sent the name, Deshaun Jackson.Eugene police reportedly cited an ongoing investigation when declining to relay a full report of the incident. In the video, Samples is filmed pulling out of a parking spot, driving forward and then reversing back into Youngs vehicle. Although Samples went backward at a relatively low speed, the collision appeared to cause both cars to shake. Then, after a slight pause, Young slowly drove off despite bystanders seemingly filming and yelling. Young went after Samples. The footage skips to him following Samples on the road, reportedly down Olive Street and 7th Avenue, as Samples drove in the middle of two lanes. Approaching a red light, Young pulled up alongside Samples and said, Hey, you just [expletive] hit me, bro.Did I? Samples said.Young responded: Yeah, I got you on [expletive] dashcam and everything.Samples repeated my bad and agreed to pull over. Then he ran a red light before doing so.I did not realize I backed into anything until I pulled away, Samples said in his Tuesday statement to The Oregonian/OregonLive, which also reported that text messages between Samples and Young appear to show Samples trying to pay Young up to $2,500 for potential damages instead of going through their insurance carriers. In a phone conversation, Samples reportedly offered Young football game tickets. While I saw no damage to his vehicle, I offered to pay for any damage, Samples said via his lawyer, per The Oregonian/OregonLive. I dont remember offering him any game tickets. I routinely give people game tickets. If I meet someone who wants to go to a game, I give them tickets. I dont believe Ive ever told someone no.Young said a Eugene police officer providing him updates on the case gave him Samples real name. On April 12, hours after the incident, Young reportedly emailed Oregon head coach Dan Lanning about what happened. By phone, Samples conveyed to Young why he didnt want him to send Lanning the dashcam footage, per The Oregonian/OregonLives report.Samples playing career ended in the collegiate ranks. A highly touted wideout coming out of high school, he spent time at Oklahoma State and Houston, although he medically retired after a slew of concussions. He turned to coaching and has held several gigs so far. In 2022, he was the Los Angeles Rams running backs coach. At the time, he was the youngest-ever position coach in NFL history at only 27 years old. Before coming to Oregon, he served as Arizona States wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator.Samples next court date is set for Aug. 25, according to The Oregonian/OregonLive. Oregons first game is on Sept. 5.We take these matters seriously and have taken appropriate action, Oregon athletics said in a statement, per The Oregonian/OregonLive.

Mike Gansey explains how Sixers were able to land LeBron James
The Philadelphia 76ers have had the best offseason in the NBA as they have completely retooled a roster that was swept out of Round 2 of the playoffs in 2026. The Sixers had a very good start to free agency, but then swung a huge deal to acquire Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics, which would have been a great offseason for anybody if Philadelphia had stopped right there,However, President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey wanted more. He had his eyes on an even bigger name: LeBron James. The Sixers waited weeks and weeks on his decision before James chose Philadelphia on a 2-year deal. Gansey threw out the first pitch before Tuesday's Philadelphia Phillies matchup against the Washington Nationals, but then hopped in the booth with NBC Sports Philadelphia and discussed landing James:I called Rich (Paul) right away and said, 'Hey, we got Jaylen. Is there a chance LeBron wants to come to us?' And, obviously, he said, 'Yeah, this changes some things'. They talked about it, and obviously, this whole process of, whatever, three weeks or whatever it went. They were doing their due diligence with LeBron and talking to all our players and other teams and their representation and stuff. So, it was a long process, but we don't get LeBron without Jaylen. That's for sure.Mike Gansey talking about how getting Jaylen Brown opened the door for LeBron"I called Rich [Paul] right away and said 'hey, we got Jaylen, is there a chance LeBron wants to come to us?' 'This changes some things'. We don't get LeBron without Jaylen." pic.twitter.com/dBZMbMprvE Erin Grugan (@eringrugan) August 4, 2026James changes things for Gansey and the Sixers. Obviously, even if they didn't land James, they would have been in the mix for the title in the upcoming 2026-27 season, but adding a player like James is the ultimate chess piece. He is the Queen on the chessboard as he can do anything and play any position out on the floor. Basketball should be fun in the City of Brotherly Love in the upcoming season. This article originally appeared on Sixers Wire: Mike Gansey explains how Sixers were able to land LeBron James
