SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJake Pauls Team Predicts His MMA Debut Will Break Viewership RecordsImage Credit: Tinseltown / ShutterstockJake Paul has not yet stepped into a professional MMA cage, but his business partner Nakisa Bidarian is already predicting that his debut will attract a record audience. The Most Valuable Promotions co-founder told TMZ Sports that he has no doubt Pauls first MMA fight will become the most-viewed match in the sports history.Jake definitely wants to do MMA, Bidarian said. And I will say here on this show with you today that when Jake Paul enters the cage, our Hexagon, it will be the most viewed MMA match in history.Paul has said he intends to make his MMA debut after returning to boxing later in 2026, with 2027 currently his target.Bidarian Wants Nate Diaz Across the Cage From PaulPaul and Diaz previously fought under boxing rules in August 2023, with Paul winning by unanimous decision. Moving the rivalry into an MMA cage would allow Diaz to use the grappling and submission skills that helped define his UFC career.Bidarian said Diaz is interested in another fight with Mike Perry. Diaz and Perry met at MVP MMA 1 in May, with Perry winning by TKO after the second round. Bidarian said MVP supports a potential rematch before turning its attention toward Paul.Hopefully, yeah, Jake and Nate would be unbelievable, he told TMZ Sports. No agreement for Paul-Diaz or a Diaz-Perry rematch has been announced. The PFL Merger Gives Paul an Established MMA PlatformBidarians prediction comes days after Most Valuable Promotions and the Professional Fighters League announced a merger that will place both boxing and MMA properties under the MVP banner.According to the official merger announcement, PFLs roster, global operations, media assets and event infrastructure will form the foundation of MVP MMA as the branding transition is completed. Paul and Bidarian will serve as co-founders and board members of the combined company, while PFL CEO John Martin will lead the organization as CEO and a board member. The merger gives MVP access to a roster of more than 300 PFL fighters and an international distribution network spanning more than 170 countries. MVP and PFL said their existing media relationships include Netflix, ESPN and Sky Sports, but they have not announced which platform would carry Pauls eventual MMA debut.Paul Has Now Publicly Committed to Making His MMA DebutPaul originally signed an exclusive MMA agreement with PFL in 2023 but continued competing exclusively as a boxer. The July merger announcement included his clearest recent commitment to eventually enter the cage.I look forward to putting my entire promotional muscle into our new company, returning to the boxing ring and making my MVP MMA debut, Paul said. He subsequently targeted 2027 for that debut, saying he first plans to box again later in 2026 and then devote himself to MMA preparation.Paul acknowledged that despite his wrestling background, he has not previously undertaken dedicated MMA training and will need to develop multiple parts of his game before competing professionally.MVP Already Drew Millions of Viewers With Its First MMA EventBidarians prediction follows MVPs first professional MMA event in May, headlined by Ronda Rouseys return against Gina Carano. MVP reported that the Netflix event peaked at nearly 17 million global viewers, while its three main-event fights averaged 12.4 million viewers worldwide.Paul has also demonstrated his ability to draw a substantially larger audience in boxing. His November 2024 fight against Mike Tyson generated an estimated average-minute audience of 108 million live viewers worldwide, according to Netflix. The platform also reported a peak of 65 million concurrent streams.0 Comments 0 Shares 94 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMColts CB Cam Taylor-Britt suspended for season openerINDIANAPOLIS The NFL has suspended Colts cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt for the first game of the 2026 regular season for violating the leagues personal conduct policy.Taylor-Britt served a five-day jail sentence in Ohios Hamilton County in January after pleading guilty to reckless operation and driving without a license, charges that stemmed from two separate stops, one in June and another near Cincinnatis Paycor Stadium in September. He is eligible to play in the preseason, and he will be reinstated the day after the team's season opener against Baltimore. The veteran cornerback has already acknowledged that he was working through some issues last season, leading to his fall on the depth chart. It didnt have anything to do with the coordinator, Taylor-Britt said. I believe it was most definitely a personal thing with me. I couldnt get my head right, and it showed in my game.He could play a significant role for the Indianapolis defense in 2026.Drafted in the second round, Taylor-Britt was a starter for Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo for two seasons together in Cincinnati, and the Colts signed him in free agency this offseason as a high-ceiling bet on a player who has struggled the last two seasons. Taylor-Britt has been playing with the No. 2 defense in Colts training camp through the first week, backing up the veteran tandem of Sauce Gardner and Charvarius Ward. When Ward and Gardner have sat out practices, Taylor-Britt has often been the player who steps into the open spot on the No. 1 defense.Barring a rash of injuries in the preseason, the Colts should be able to handle Taylor-Britts absence in the season opener. Indianapolis has plenty of depth at cornerback, a group that includes 2025 starter Mekhi Blackmon and promising developmental cornerback Johnathan Edwards. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHa-Seong Kim returns to lineup for Braves opener at YankeesSAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 28: Ha-Seong Kim #7 of the Atlanta Braves goes to first base after drawing a walk against the San Francisco Giants in the top of the six inning of a major league baseball game at Oracle Park on June 28, 2026 in San Francisco, California. (Photo by Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesAs the Braves kick off a three-game series on the road against the Yankees, Ha-Seong Kim will make his return to the lineup, playing shortstop and hitting ninth.Itll be his first game action since June 30, not long after which he was placed on the injured list with middle finger inflammation. Before his IL stint, he hit .068 in 73 plate appearances after a delayed start to the season due to a separate injury. This return feels like his last chance to validate the $20 million contract he was given and prove he belongs on a potential postseason roster. With a strong left-handed pitcher in former Brave Max Fried taking the mound for the series opener, the Braves are moving Ozzie Albies up in the order. Notably, above left-hander Matt Olson, to the No. 3 spot behind just Ronald Acua Jr.and Drake Baldwin. Baldwin will DH Friday, giving Sean Murphy another catching start in his recent return from the IL.The Yankees, notably without Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Cody Bellinger, will hit Ben Rice, he of the 31 homers this season, second in the batting order, and recent prospect call-up shortstop George Lombard Jr. seventh. This will be Frieds first career start against his former team. As such, it shouldnt come as much of a surprise that the only six members of Atlantas roster who have faced him joined the Braves within the last two seasons.Former National Lane Thomas has faced Fried the most, a whopping 19 times. Although it should be a favorable matchup for Thomas as a right-handed hitter against a left-handed pitcher, hes 1-for-19 against Fried with one single, one RBI and three strikeouts.None of the Braves who have faced Fried have had much success against him. Mike Yastrzemski and Ha-Seong Kim are both 2-for-7 (.286) to lead the way on a roster which is a combined 11-for-65 (.169) against the southpaw with two homers (one each from Jorge Mateo and Dominic Smith), five RBIs, 13 strikeouts and three walks.Braves debutante right-hander Tyler Mahle has faced the Yankees twice, once with the Twins in 2023 and earlier this season with the Giants. He took the loss in both starts but wasnt particularly bad either time, allowing two earned runs in each appearance (4.32 ERA) over a combined 8 1/3 innings, giving up nine total hits with 10 strikeouts and four walks.Among current Yankees with more than two at-bats against Mahle, Paul Goldschmidt (11-for-29 for .379 average with three homers and five RBIs) and Ryan McMahon (5-for-18 with two homers and eight RBIs) lead the charge.Overall, the active Yankees are a combined 20-for-82 (.244) with three doubles, two triples, five home runs and 17 RBIs against Mahle, striking out 24 times while walking eight.0 Comments 0 Shares 250 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPOSITION PREVIEW: CornerbacksAUSTIN, TEXAS - NOVEMBER 28: Dezz Ricks #2 of the Texas A&M Aggies reacts during the first quarter against the Texas Longhorns at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on November 28, 2025 in Austin, Texas. (Photo by Alex Slitz/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesThe position previews roll on! For this one, we delve into the secondary to take a look at cornerbacks, where the Ags lose a good bit but also have a lot of optimism coming into the 2026 season. Lets dive in.Who did we lose? Will Lee, a former KSU transfer and two-year starter, was taken by the Carolina Panthers in the 4th round of the NFL Draft.Multi-year starter Tyreek Chappell exhausted his eligibility and signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent. The Ags lost Jayvon Thomas (SMU) and Cobey Sellers (Vanderbilt) to the transfer portalConcepcion is a talent who is hard to replace (though A&M certainly tried, more on that below). He was the player other teams always had to account for. Williams, while talented, seemed to be buried on the A&M depth chart, and his transfer appears to be in search of a starting role.Who do we bring back?Dezz Ricks looked much-improved in his second season in Aggieland, starting every game in 2025 after coaches admitted he was likely pressed into playing time too soon in 2024. He now looks to anchor the Aggie secondary in his fourth collegiate season. While he wasnt a starter, Washington transfer Jordan Shaw appeared in 11 games a season ago, totaling 18 tackles, a forced fumble and a pass breakup. While its not guaranteed, he certainly appears to have the inside track to increased playing time.Georgia transfer Julio Humphrey appeared in 10 games a season ago, and the former top 100 recruit is another player who will look to earn a larger role in the A&M secondary.Redshirt freshmen Deyjhon Pettaway, Jamar Beal-Goins and Adonyss Currie round out the returnees at CB.What other names should we know?Rickey Gibson III transferred to A&M from Tennessee this offseason after missing all but one of the Vols 2025 games due to injury. But in 2024, he started all 12 games for Tennessee. He is expected to slot in as a starter for the Aggies.5-star Brandon Arrington and Vic Singleton are the true freshman CB additions for A&M. Despite Arringtons high recuit rating and sky-high potential, Id be surprised if he sees a big role in year one (which is a compliment to the rest of this position group).Overall Grade: B+The uncertainly of replacing Will Lee keeps this group from being in A range, and there is some uncertainly of who will fill which roles. But that top group of Gibson, Ricks, Shaw and Humphrey carries a TON of potential. Now, if you get bitten by the injury bug, you may quickly be playing someone with very little SEC experience, but that is just life in the transfer portal era. This secondary finished No. 16 nationally in passing defense in 2025, and it should be expected for them to be above average, if not very very good, again in 2026.0 Comments 0 Shares 177 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMLions RB Jahmyr Gibbs glad contract saga is over: 'I love being here'Allen Park Jahmyr Gibbs prefers when the attention isn't on him. But the NFL is a business, and the Detroit Lions star felt he needed to do what was necessary to secure his recent contract extension, an agreement that made Gibbs the highest-paid running back in league history.Gibbs, 24, reported to the Meijer Performance Center last month for training camp but did not participate in any of the team's first six practices of the summer. He returned to practice in a limited capacity Thursday before later that day finalizing a three-year extension worth $67.5 million, including $51.5 million guaranteed. The deal, set to run through the 2030 season and officially ending his hold-in, became official Friday morning."This process was extremely stressful because I just wanted to play ball," Gibbs said Friday. "I missed being out there with my teammates and coaches. It's just fun being out there now with my pads and stuff on. It feels a lot better."The Lions now have signed nine of their draft picks under general manager Brad Holmes to multi-year contract extensions, as Gibbs joins a group already including wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, offensive tackle Penei Sewell, defensive tackle Alim McNeill, defensive end Aidan Hutchinson and linebackers Jack Campbell and Derrick Barnes, as well as safety Kerby Joseph.More: Lions have committed more than $1 billion to extend core players"I think before I got here, everything you hear about Detroit is negative. Since I've been here, all I can see is positive things," Gibbs said of how he views the city that's become his NFL home. "The people, it's a lot of good food here, the culture. I love being here. I'm glad I get to be here for the next five years. Extremely blessed."The running back market has hit a boom this offseason, with three players at the position Gibbs ($22.5 million), Atlanta's Bijan Robinson ($22.25 million) and Indianapolis' Jonathan Taylor ($22 million) receiving contracts with average annual values north of $20 million. Before those three, Philadelphia's Saquon Barkley ($20.6 million) was the only running back with an AAV above $20 million.A number of running backs reached out to congratulate Gibbs, including Robinson, Taylor, Baltimore's Derrick Henry, San Francisco's Christian McCaffrey and Buffalo's James Cook. Gibbs and Robinson have had a good-natured rivalry for years; Robinson was rated by the 247Sports Composite the No. 1 overall running back coming out of high school in the Class of 2020, and Gibbs wasn't far behind at No. 8.Robinson was drafted eighth overall in 2023. Gibbs went four spots later."We're both extremely competitive, we're good friends," Gibbs, who grew up in Georgia, said of his relationship with Robinson. "Of course, you want to outperform the other. That's definitely going to drive us. Thankfully, we've got a game (versus the Falcons) in Atlanta (this season), so I'm gonna be back in the crib."Also sending a congratulatory message to Gibbs was David Montgomery, who the Lions traded to the Houston Texans this offseason. Gibbs and Montgomery formed one of the best rushing duos in NFL history from 2023-25, combining for 8,185 yards from scrimmage and 82 total touchdowns. With Montgomery out, Lions coach Dan Campbell said he expects Gibbs to be the team's bellcow in the 2026 campaign, a responsibility Gibbs is eager to hold: "I appreciate them having that much trust in me," Gibbs said. "But for me, it's not anything I'm not used to. I think I've always been in that role until I came here. I'm ready for it. It's going to be fun."Gibbs has found incredible, unprecedented success since the Lions selected him 12th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, scoring more touchdowns from scrimmage through his first three seasons (49) than any player who's come before him, including Lions legend Barry Sanders (47), the previous record holder. So, what's next?"Ultimately, I just want to win a Super Bowl with this team," Gibbs said.rsilva@detroitnews.com@rich_silva18This article originally appeared on The Detroit News: Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs glad contract saga is over: 'I love being here'0 Comments 0 Shares 177 Views 0 Reviews
