Andy Burnham has said it "insane" that the UK has hosted only one World Cup, accusing Fifa and Uefa of conspiring against the home nations. The Prime Minister questioned if the organisations had "something against us", with the UK not hosting the World Cup since 1966.Mr Burnham referenced his involvement in England's doomed 2010 bid for the 2018 World Cup, which was awarded to Russia. It hosted the 2005 and 2022 womens European Championships. The latter saw Englands women win the tournament for the first time on home soil.Since entering Downing Street himself, Mr Burnham has called for Mr Infantino to resign, saying he is the wrong man to lead Fifa over his bungled attempt to sell off stakes in the World Cup to private investors.He told journalists: I do not believe that he is the right man to lead football forward on the world stage.The plan that was put forward was offensive to many people, football people, around the world, and it cant be the case that we just move on and forget that, it wasnt acceptable.

The Twins, despite low external expectations before the season, are hanging around in the American League playoff race, but theyre coming off of a series in which they lost two of three to the lowly Kansas City Royals. Minnesotas lineup is not the issue. This group boasts plenty of punch, even with their central star, Byron Buxton, on the injured list; the Twins are just five runs behind the White Sox for most runs in the American League this season (though the top seven teams in runs scored are all in the NL, so Minnesota is just 10th overall). The Twins weakness this season has been on the pitching side, especially in the bullpen, though they made a couple of moves to shore up that unit at the trade deadline with deals that brought in relievers Jeff Hoffman, AJ Minter, Tommy Nance, and starter Dean Kremer.Tonight, the Twins will throw righty Zebby Matthews, freshly recalled from Triple-A St. Paul in the wake of Joe Ryans glute injury and subsequent IL placement. Matthews has bounced back and forth between the majors and minors this season, and will be making his 15th start for the Twins; in 81 innings in his previous 14 starts, Matthews is 4-8 with a 5.22 ERA and 5.03 FIP. Matthews doesnt walk a ton of batters but his home runs are up quite a bit in 2026 while his strikeouts are down quite a bit, an unenviable combination.In response, Milwaukee will pitch Shane Drohan, who makes his 13th start and 23rd appearance for the Brewers. In 88 innings overall this season, Drohan has a 3.48 ERA and impressive 3.03 FIP, but arguably his biggest contribution has been his consistency; in six starts in July, Drohan went at least 5 2/3 innings each time out, and except for one unfortunate game against the Rockies, he allowed three runs or fewer in all of them.Jake Bauers is notably back in the lineup at first base for the Brewers after missing a couple of games with abdominal issues. This does finally enact the move Christian Yelich down in the lineup plan that was delayed when Bauers was scratched earlier this week, though Yelich will bat sixth tonight instead of the seventh position he was originally slated for. Also notable is that David Hamilton continues to get starts at third base against right-handed pitchers, while Joey Ortiz is on the bench for the fourth straight game. Cooper Pratt is at shortstop, with Brice Turang in his usual spot at second, while William Contreras catches and the outfield goes Jackson Chourio-Garrett Mitchell-Luis Lara from left to right.A big note about the Twins lineup tonight: itll be the debut for the teams #2 prospect via MLB Pipeline and their #29 prospect overall, Kaelen Culpepper. (Kaelen is not, no matter what Googles AI tells you, related to Daunte.) Culpepper is a 23-year-old who was the Twins first-round draft pick in 2024 and boasts solid tools across the board. In 74 games for St. Paul this season, Culpepper hit .271/.367/.478 with 15 doubles, 14 homers, and 17 stolen bases in 20 tries. Mililani (Hawaii) junior quarterbackHunter Fujikawa is among the top quarterbacks out West in the 28 class but a tight game schedule will make it tough for any game day visits this fall.Fujikawa is a player weve been watching since he was a freshman. Weve seen at multiple events over the last couple of years and he flashes one of the biggest arms in the class.He has a well put together 6-foot-2, 210 pound frame and is a plus athlete and tested well at the recent Under Armour Next Camp in Maui in July.Here was our eval of Fujikawa following the UA Camp:Fujikawa is on the short list when talking about the top quarterbacks out West in the 28 class. Hes a box checker and has all the traits you want to see in a young signal caller. He has the frame, arm talent and looks comfortable throwing on the move. You can tell he has worked hard on his body over the last year and looks noticeably stronger and more filled out in his upper body. He can change speeds and throw with touch when needed and has one of the higher ceilings in his class.On the recruiting front, Fujikawa has a solid list of schools he said are currently recruiting him the hardest.The schools on me hardest are Washington, Oregon, Ole Miss, Arizona, UCLA, Stanford, and Arizona State, Fujikawa said. I really want to try and take some visits to see a game but unfortunately, our schedule makes that tough.We play so many games on Saturdays or late Friday nights that I dont think Ill be able to get out to see anyone. I dont plan on making a decision anytime soon so I havent fully narrowed my list down. Right now, Im just focused on our season and dont plan to commit until next Spring.Fujikawa was plenty active over the spring and summer and took visits to Alabama, BYU, Cal, Florida, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, SMU, Stanford, UCLA and Washington.The Huskies were a childhood favorite for Fujikawa and they have a former Mililani QB on the roster in Treston McMillan. Oregon is another school that has always recruited the Islands well and Dillon Gabriel is a Trojan alum as well. Oregon was a huge offer, Fujikawa said. I worked out for them back in January and coach Koa (Kaai) offered. Ive camped with them in the past as well and really like the football program and the coaching staff. That one was special for sure.Fujikawa visited Ole Miss and Alabama back to back days in June and raved about both SEC schools. At Alabama, I spent time with all the coaches including coach (Kalen) DeBoer, Fujikawa said. I met with coach (Bryan) Ellis, the QB coach and coach (Ryan) Grubb as well. They have a great offense, very QB friendly and I like the fit.The staff at Ole Miss was very welcoming as well. I met with coach (Pete) Golding and Joe Judge, the QB coach and I loved the vibes there and look forward to getting back at some point.UCLA made a positive impression as well.A lot of the coaches including coach Chesney werent there on my visit but it was still a good time, Fujikawa said. I talked with coach Chesney after the visit and hes a great coach and has won everywhere he has been so Im excited to follow them this season.Fujikawa was able to visit Stanford while in town for the NorCal Elite 11 Regional in April.I had a great visit and coach (Tavita) Pritchard offered me while I was there so that was great, Fujikawa said. I was also to meet with not just coach Pritchard but Andrew Luck as well and that was awesome.

(AP) Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Friday that it is unlikely that quarterback Patrick Mahomes will play in their preseason opener against the Rams next week, and it's possible that the two-time MVP skips the three-game exhibition slate entirely.That's not necessarily a surprise given Mahomes underwent surgery to repair torn ligaments in his left knee in December.Mahomes has been ahead of schedule in his rehab work ever since the injury, though, participating in the entire offseason program before reporting to training camp on time. He was given the all-clear late last month by Dallas-based surgeon Dr. Dan Cooper, who performed the procedure, to participate in practices without any restrictions.There's a pretty good chance I don't play him, Reid said. Percentages are leaning that way. I don't know if I will play him the second or third game I don't know that but percentages probably lean against doing that.On one hand, Mahomes hardly needs the work given his experience. On the other hand, the competitive nature of the quarterback may be enough to convince Reid to put him on the field at least for a couple of snaps in the second game against Tampa Bay.Mahomes has said he's looking forward to taking his first real hit to feel fully back to football.The Chiefs have no shortage of quarterbacks in need of preseason work. They traded with the Jets for veteran Justin Fields to serve as their primary backup, and he could use some game experience in the new offense.
