Brandon Coleman expected to take over as Commanders left tackle
Sep 29, 2024; Glendale, Arizona, USA; Washington Commanders offensive tackle Brandon Coleman (74) against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images | USA TODAY Sports via Reuters ConThe Washington Commanders got some unfortunate injury news yesterday. Left tackle Laremy Tunsil left the field after a 1-on-1 with Odafe Oweh, and was taken to the team facility for evaluation. An MRI showed he tore his triceps which will likely require surgery. He is expected to miss most, or all, of his second season with the Commanders. Tunsil just signed a 2-year, $60 million contract extension that reestablish him as the highest-paid LT in the league. The big question everyone wanted answered yesterday was who would replace Tunsil at LT. Andrew Wylie replaced him in practice yesterday, but he has only played 5 snaps there in his career. Brandon Coleman was Washingtons starting LT during his rookie season in 2024 and he filled in for Tunsil for the last three games of the 2025 season. The Athletics Nicki Jhabvala reports that the plan is for Coleman to move back to his former position of LT. He had been in a training camp battle with Chris Paul for the starting LG position. Coleman started last season at LG, before coding the starting role to Paul for the remainder of the games. Coleman has started 18 games at LT for the Commanders, and will now enter his third season getting time at the position. There was speculation that GM Adam Peters could bring in a free agent like Taylor Decker, or move second-year OT Josh Conerly Jr to his college position on the left side. Washington could still bring in a veteran for competition, but for now, the job is Colemans. As of now, Im told the plan is to move Brandon Coleman back to left tackle, where he was the starter in 2024. https://t.co/HkBMKppsf7 Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 9, 2026

Report Inter Determined to Fend Off Growing Interest in Italian Prodigy
Report Inter Determined to Fend Off Growing Interest in Italian ProdigySerie A champions Inter reportedly have no interest in selling sought-after starlet Francesco Pio Esposito amid growing Premier League interest. According to Calciomercato, Cristian Chivu has deemed the 21-year-old striker non-transferable.Widely regarded as one of Europes hottest prospects, Pio Esposito enjoyed a memorable maiden season at the Giuseppe Meazza. After a superb breakout campaign with Spezia in Serie B, he returned to Inter last summer and immediately cemented his first-team status.Despite his youth, he made 48 competitive appearances for Inter last term, registering ten goals and six assists. Viewed as a long-term replacement for Marcus Thuram, Esposito sits in the clubs highest esteem, but his impressive performances in 2025/26 have not gone unnoticed.Premier League heavyweights Arsenal and Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on the Inter prodigy. Furthermore, neither team has been deterred by Espositos staggering 85 million price tag. Still, the Nerazzurri will do everything in their power to keep their rising star at Meazza. Our take on Inter & Pio EspositoEsposito graduated from the clubs youth academy and represents not only Inters future but also their present. He quickly developed an impressive understanding with captain Lautaro Martinez during his first Serie A season, giving Inter another reason to fend off potential suitors. Moreover, Esposito has recently extended his contract with the Nerazzurri, pledging his allegiance to the club until 2031. Needless to say, it puts Inter in a strong negotiating position this summer. However, clubs like Arsenal and Man Utd rarely take no for an answer when they set their sights on a player, meaning Inter may have to brace themselves for some serious pressure.

Barcelona in continued discussions with Saudi club over star defender; personal terms agreed
Barcelona in continued discussions with Saudi club over star defender; personal terms agreedWith just a few weeks remaining before the start of the new season, Barcelona have an uphill task in the transfer market. The club are actively chasing a new striker and Rodri. But they must also shore up their backline, especially with Ronald Araujo now set for a medical at Liverpool.Another position Barcelona are looking to strengthen is right-back, with Joao Cancelo being the designated choice.Barcelona still working on Cancelo dealCancelo is waiting for Barcelonas agreement with Al Hilal. (Photo by Lars Baron/Getty Images)Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on Barcelonas pursuit of Cancelo this summer. The Italian journalist claims Barcelona are still in discussion with Al Hilal over the right-backs permanent move to Catalonia. The club have already agreed personal terms with the Portuguese international, who is keen on returning to Camp Nou for the third time in his career.Cancelo was a star performer at Barcelona during the backend of last season, playin a key role in replacing the underperforming Alejandro Balde.Romano believes Barcelona and Al Hilal will reach an agreement soon. But for now, the talks continue. Why Barcelona must sign CanceloCancelo transfer could be a matter of time. (Photo by Jack Gorman/Getty Images)As mentioned earlier, Cancelos presence in the team was vital as Barcelona star Balde was struggling with form and fitness.Judging by what pre-season performances have shown, Baldes form has declined further and the club desperately need a backup option.Cancelo, to that end, fits the bill perfectly. The Portuguese international is currently the better option than Balde and has the experience and craft to thrive in Hansi Flicks defensive formula. The former Man City star also offers versatility and can occupy the right-back spot, his main position. This could come in handy if Jules Koundes downturn extends into the new season or Flick fancies the French international in a centre-back role, which is plausible now that Araujo has left.Keeping all these factors in mind, securing the services of Cancelo could be integral to Barcelonas squad-building heading into the new season.

(Photo by Valerio Pennicino/Getty Images)There was also the possibility of a return to Juve on a lower salary than the 12m per season he was on, but they too appear to have moved on with Randal Kolo Muani and Kerim Alajbegovic coming in.According to Calciomercato, Sportitalia and TRT Spor, Vlahovic is finally ready to listen to the offer from Besiktas and give negotiations some serious thought. It would be a 10m per season salary, plus a large signing-on bonus and commission for his agent. In turn, Besiktas warned that they will not wait beyond the end of next week, but have been calling Vlahovic practically every day to convince him. They believe coach Vincenzo Italiano, who worked with the striker at Fiorentina during his most positive spell, can be a decisive factor.

What Alabama State football QB Andrew Body said about running in 2026
When Alabama State football quarterback, Andrew Body, injured his throwing shoulder for the third time in his career in 2025 the question about how much he'd run in 2026 started generating buzz. Body was the second leading rusher for Alabama State last season with 518 rushing yards. Running the football has always been a component of Body's game, but it's also been the cause for two of his shoulder injuries. The Hornets are carrying big expectations into 2026 after being voted in the preseason to finish first in the SWAC East, and even bigger expectations are on Body after he was named to the Walter Peyton Award watchlist. So how much will Body run this season? "At the end of the day, I got to be me because that's all you can be," Body told the Montgomery Advertiser after Alabama State's scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 8. "You can't try to be somebody, or try to be someone else." The evidence to Body's statement might've been seen in the Hornet's scrimmage when Body ran the ball five times over the course of four drives three of which were designed QB runs. ASU FB SCRIMMAGE NOTES: Observations during Alabama State football's first fall camp scrimmageTONY HULL & ASU FB OFFENSE: How new OC Tony Hull approached building Alabama State football's offenseBody isn't content with the season he had in 2025, and part of his evolution this season has to do with running the football. "That's the difference between being a running quarterback, and a quarterback that can run," Body said. "Instead of just running the ball to try to make a play, you're running it when you need to." The Alabama State QB is learning how to be a smart runner this season, but holding true to who is. If the Hornets want to find the offensive success they had last season, they'll need Body to be healthy and able to run when needed. West Indies suffer major ODI World Cup blow, miss direct qualification for 2027 showpiece
Two-time champions West Indies have missed out on direct qualification for the ICC Mens ODI World Cup 2027, meaning the former powerhouse will once again have to navigate the qualifiers to reach the 50-over showpiece.West Indies fate was sealed after Afghanistan defeated Ireland by 92 runs in the rain-affected second ODI of their five-match series at Bready Cricket Club on Friday. The result guaranteed Afghanistan a direct place at the 2027 World Cup and left West Indies unable to break into the direct qualification places before the September 30, 2026 cut-off.The 2027 tournament will be staged across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in October-November, with matches spread across 12 venues.Third straight World Cup without direct entryThe setback extends a worrying trend for West Indies cricket. The two-time champions also failed to secure direct qualification for the 2019 and 2023 editions. They successfully came through the qualifiers in 2019, but suffered a stunning setback four years later when they were eliminated in the 2023 World Cup qualifiers and missed the main tournament in India. The West Indies will now have to go through the qualification route once again if they are to feature in the 2027 edition.Under the qualification system, co-hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe have automatic places. The remaining seven direct spots are determined by the ICC ODI rankings, with the rankings cut-off set for September 30, 2026.West Indies are currently 10th in the ODI rankings, behind Afghanistan in eighth and Bangladesh in ninth. Zimbabwe, ranked 11th, already have an automatic place as co-hosts.That effectively means West Indies cannot move into the required top-nine bracket before the deadline.India series cannot change West Indies' fateWest Indies will have one final major ODI assignment before the cut-off when they travel to India for a three-match series in September and October. The first two games are scheduled for Thiruvananthapuram on September 27 and Guwahati on September 30.However, even winning both matches will not be enough to take West Indies into the direct qualification places, leaving their World Cup fate dependent on the qualifiers. For a side that once dominated the global 50-over game, another qualification campaign represents a stark reminder of the distance West Indies cricket has travelled from its former heights.Ireland also forced into qualifiersIreland have also lost their direct qualification opportunity. The Irish side needed to sweep their five-match series against Afghanistan 5-0 to remain in contention. Their hopes suffered an immediate blow when the opening ODI in Bready was washed out on August 5, before Afghanistan's 92-run victory in the second game effectively ended Ireland's hopes. With Afghanistan now assured of a direct World Cup place, West Indies and Ireland will have to take the longer route to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. 133064801
