SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBrennan Johnson joining Everton while Dwight McNeil joins Crystal Palace in swap dealBrennan Johnson joining Everton while Dwight McNeil joins Crystal Palace in swap dealCrystal Palace attacker Brennan Johnson is set to join Everton while Dwight McNeil will move to Crystal Palace in a swap deal, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Toffees have agreed to let McNeil leave the Hill Dickinson Stadium club for Selhurst Park, with Johnson moving in the other direction. The Eagles and Everton have both agreed to the deal, with both players starting their medical tests today in a huge boost for David Moyes and new Palace manager Pierre Sage. The swap was initially complicated due to both clubs different valuations for their wingers. However, they have reached a compromise, with Johnson set to become the Toffees fifth signing of the summer transfer window. Everton have already signed Christian Norgaard from Arsenal, Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough and completed permanent deals for Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl.Meanwhile, Palace have signed defensive duo Oscar Mingueza and Takehiro Tomiyasu as free agents, and Sage is now about to bolster his attacking ranks.0 Comments 0 Shares 47 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBarcelona set to confirm La Masia defenders Ajax move in the next few hoursBarcelona set to confirm La Masia defenders Ajax move in the next few hoursBarcelona are closing in on another La Masia departure, with Jofre Torrents move to Ajax expected to be made official in the next few hours.According to Mundo Deportivo, the 19-year-old left-back is on the verge of completing his transfer to the Dutch club after Barcelona reached an agreement that will allow the youngster to continue his development away from Catalonia while protecting the Blaugranas long-term interest in him.The deal was expected to be announced earlier, but Ajaxs first match meant the official confirmation was delayed. That wait should now be almost over.Jofre Torrents set to leave Barcelona for AjaxTorrents is expected to join Ajax on a permanent transfer after deciding to take the next step in his development away from Barcelona. The young defender did not travel to Udine with his Barcelona youth-team teammates on Saturday because he was waiting for his future to be resolved.Jofre Torrents is set to leave Barcelona. (Photo by Alex Livesey/Getty Images)That was a clear indication that negotiations over his departure had reached an advanced stage.Ajax have been pushing to sign the Barcelona youngster and are now expected to complete the move shortly. The Dutch club see Torrents as a promising left-back who can continue his development in a competitive environment. For the player, the transfer offers an opportunity to gain regular first-team experience and continue progressing at a club with a strong reputation for developing young talent. However, the move may not necessarily be the final chapter of his Barcelona career, as the Catalan club has structured the agreement in a way that keeps a route back to the first team open.Barcelona retain control of Torrents futureJofre Torrents will join Ajax this summer. (Picture courtesy: Barcelona official website)As reported before, Barcelona will retain 50 per cent of Torrents rights as part of the agreement with Ajax and will also have a buy-back option.Simply put, rather than allowing the defender to leave without protection, Barcelona have created a structure that gives them the chance to bring Torrents back if his development in the Netherlands goes as planned. The arrangement allows the 19-year-old to gain experience elsewhere while ensuring that Barcelona do not completely lose control of his future. The outlet mentions that there is also interest from Celta Vigo, but the immediate plan is for Torrents to complete his permanent move to Ajax.0 Comments 0 Shares 53 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReal Madrid midfielder fails to silence doubts despite strong pre-season numbers – reportReal Madrid midfielder fails to silence doubts despite strong pre-season numbers reportReal Madrids failure to sign Rodri this summer transfer window has put the spotlight firmly on the existing midfield options in the squad. With the Spanish World Cup winner not coming to join the project, the onus is now on the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga to step up.Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Camavinga remains under pressure at Real Madrid, with the French midfielder still struggling to convince despite posting respectable numbers during pre-season.The 23-year-old is one of the players whose future remains uncertain after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign. The player has so far maintained his stance that he has no intention of leaving and wants to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu until his contract expires in 2029.Camavinga still searching for his best levelThe midfielder has started both of Real Madrids pre-season friendlies so far, completing 90 minutes against Fiorentina before playing the first half against Ferencvaros.Statistically, his performances have been solid.Camavinga has failed to make an impact. (Photo by David Balogh/Getty Images)Against Fiorentina, Camavinga completed 93% of his passes, recovered possession seven times and won six of his nine duels. He followed that up with another efficient display against Ferencvaros, completing 51 of 52 passes, recovering the ball four times and winning four of six duels.Numbers do not tell the full storyThe issue is that those statistics have not translated into a commanding presence.Camavinga has still looked short of authority in midfield, particularly when asked to control the rhythm of the game and impose himself in possession. This is perhaps the biggest issue for Madrid in midfield. The Frenchman has always had the athleticism, recovery ability and versatility to contribute. However, his game has simply not taken the next step into becoming a midfielder who can consistently dictate matches rather than simply participate in them.Rodri setback could reopen the doorRodris decision to join Barcelona may actually give Camavinga a fresh opportunity.Camavinga faces a make-or-break period at Real Madrid. (Photo by David Balogh/Getty Images)With Real Madrid currently not expected to sign another orchestrator, Jose Mourinho may have to rely more heavily on the options already available.Tchouameni is still returning to full training, while Bernardo Silva is building fitness. That leaves Camavinga with a real chance to earn an important role if he can finally rediscover his best form. However, the Frenchman needs to do much better than he is right now to convince Jose Mourinho of a starting berth.Sometimes, stats never tell the full story, and that has been the case for Camavinga in these couple of pre-season games. The upcoming season could be make-or-break for the 23-year-old and his Real Madrid career, and it remains to be seen whether he can show some improvement in the coming weeks.0 Comments 0 Shares 58 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMInside LIV Golf's wild week: Bryson, Trump and the mystery investor surfacesFrom left: President Trump, Bryson DeChambeau and LIV CEO Scott O'Neil at LIV New York this week.getty imagesBEDMINSTER, N.J. As LIV Golf CEO Scott ONeil walked the final few holes with the last group on a sweltering Sunday at Trump Bedminster, he had an inside-the-ropes special guest at his side: Ted Goldthorpe, the head of BC Partners Credit, which manages more than $10 billion globally across more than 300 investments. One of the latest companies Goldthorpes team reportedly has been kicking the tires on: yep, LIV Golf, which on Wednesday announced it had come to terms with an unnamed investor that will carry and fund the beleaguered league into 2027 and beyond.LIV has not officially acknowledged BC Partners as its would-befunder, or lender. That news came to light via Bloomberg and the Financial Times, the latter of which reported that the deal will be consummated only if BC Partners and other possible investors receive assurances that enough of LIVs A-listers will hang around beyond this season. Adding intrigue to the dealmaking is the fact that BC Partners is a lender to GSE Worldwide, the sports and entertainment marketing agency that represents LIVs biggest star, Bryson DeChambeau, along with Joaquin Niemann, the 27-year-old Chilean who won his ninth LIV title here Sunday, with a three-shot win over Harold Varner. GSE said in a statement earlier this week that it had no involvement with BC Partners potential financing transaction involving LIV Golf, nor, the agency said, was it aware of any discussions happening between the two parties. When I asked DeChambeau in a Sunday-evening press conference (his Crushers won the team competition) whether he had any advance notice of the reported BC deal, he said, I dont know the mechanics of the conversations between the investor and GSE. What I can tell you is that the investor, from the conversations Ive had, has a new and fresh vision on this product. It wont be changing too much, but itll be changing in the right ways.He sees the vision. He wants to pursue it even more than what weve previously done, and hes excited, from what I can tell. I think, again, if were able to get the players all aligned, which I feel like itll happen in some capacity, I think itll happen, this is going to be a product that will be a force for good in the game, in the ecosystem.Still unclear, though, is whether BC Partners and Goldthorpe will, in fact, finalize the deal and help see that vision through. GOLDTHORPE ISNT NEW to decision making in the sports world, and not just because his firm has a stake in Riddell, the NFLs leading helmet supplier. Goldthorpe sits on the advisory board for the Brampton Honey Badgers, a Toronto-area team that plays in the Canadian Elite Basketball league, and also holds board seats with both the Canadian Olympic Foundation and Lacrosse Canada. The Pine Valley shirt he was sporting Sunday also suggests he knows his way around a grill room. The group Goldthorpe followed at Bedminster Niemann, Harold Varner and Lee Westwood was a microcosm of what the league currently offers, in terms of its stable of contracted players: a young star with reach into international markets (Niemann); a mid-career player with nearly $10 million in PGA Tour earnings but, should he need it or want it, no clear path back to the Tour (Varner); and a past-his-prime former world No. 1 (Westwood). As Goldthorpe paced the property with ONeil, he also got a taste for the LIV tournament experience: pulsating music; corporate hospitality that is more night club than country club; and, on this Sunday, an appearance by the President of the United States. President Trump addressed the players in player dining before the final round Sunday, lavishing praise on Gary Player, who also was in the room. Later in the day, as Niemanns group was readying to play their approaches into the 18th green, the unmistakable sound of helicopters interrupted play and not just any helicopters, the presidents, one of which buzzed up the left side of the hole before landing behind the corporate suite behind the 18th green. The players stared up at the choppers. So, too, did Goldthorpe, who pulled out his phone to document the moment. After Niemann put the finishing touches on his round and champagne had covered the podium, Goldthorpe described his day as great but otherwise declined an interview request. In fairness, he was busy pressing flesh with the newly minted champion, saying hello to DeChambeau and otherwise keeping up with ONeil as he diligently worked his way through post-tournament duties. After DeChambeaus victorious Crushers chatted with the president for several minutes by the clubhouse (DeChambeau, who finished in 38th place at seven over, told Trump how hard his golf course is), Goldthorpe joined a procession of players, managers, media and Trumps son, Eric, and his family as it ascended a hillside near the 18th green, the top of which served as the setting for the trophy ceremony. As that revelry was underway, the elder Trump was on his way. As his helicopter buzzed over the podium, Eric and DeChambeau looked up. Eric waved; DeChambeau flashed a thumbs-up.Wild scene. Trumps ride home halted play for full minute or so here on 18, with final group waiting to play their approaches pic.twitter.com/dt2VptpclW Alan Bastable (@alan_bastable) August 9, 2026 THE SOMEWHAT CHAOTIC SCENE was a fitting bookend to a somewhat chaotic week. On Tuesday, LIV players met for 90 minutes in a closed-door session at the club, to discuss the news most of them had just learned: their league seemed to have a lifeline, or at least the beginning of one. As they filed out of the session, though, most of the players declined to engage with a small pool of reporters who were awaiting them. The few who did said DeChambeau led the session and that the vibes generally were positive, but few other details surfaced, including whether LIVs season-capping team championship, scheduled for Michigan next month, will be played. (The build-out for the tournament, at The Cardinal at Saint Johns, has not begun, and the event has been pulled from Fox Sports broadcast schedule.)On Wednesday morning, ONeil addressed the media in a hastily arranged press conference. In his opening remarks, he said that LIV had signed a term sheet with a lead investor but said little else before taking questions from reporters who, with so little intel, seemed unsure what to even ask.One of the questions that ONeil fielded: Was LIVs former backer, the Saudi Public Investment Fund, aware of the potential deal? The PIF has been a tremendous steward of this business, and I would just point you to the announcement they made, ONeil said, referring to the statement the PIF issued in April that said in part, The substantial investment required by LIV Golf over a longer term is no longer consistent with the current phase of PIFs investment strategy. ONeil continued, I dont speak for them, and they dont speak to you through me for sure.Understandably, then, eyebrows were cocked when the PIFs governor, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, made an appearance at Trump Bedminster this weekend, representing what is thought to be the first time hes attended a LIV event since the season opener in Riyadh. DeChambeau said he and his fellow players learned Saturday night that Al-Rumayyan would be on property. When I asked DeChambeau if he knew why Al-Rumayyan was in New Jersey, he said, I think he needed to have some conversations with the president. That was a whole nother thing. Im not going to get involved with that. But it was great to see him out here. I think hes done wonders for us and the global game of golf. How it moves forward, I think theres a great place for the PIF and where they want to be moving forward. Where that is, Im not exactly sure. I have no idea. But I know that hes supported golf for a long, long time, and as this transitions over hopefully into the new investors hands and into the players hands, and thats what its going to be, in the players hands, we really have an opportunity to align a lot of the global incentives to be a force for good for the game. FROM HIS POST-ROUND INTERACTIONS with players and others in the LIV orbit, Goldthorpe seemed to be familiar with some and meeting others for the first time. In his winners press conference, Niemann said he was unsure whether Goldthorpe had addressed any of the players in any formal capacity at Bedminster.I dont know, he said. I was pretty focused on doing my thing. Probably a few things that I might know after a couple hours. But no, all my focus was on trying to get the ball in the hole, and thats it.No one did that better than Niemann this week. In two more weeks, LIV rolls onto Indianapolis for its final regular-season event of 2026, then its on to Michigan. Or not. Most likely, it seems, not. And then well, then things get really interesting. DeChambeau said Sunday evening that he and his fellow LIV players want to bring value to anywhere and everywhere for the game of golf. But first they must attend to a more urgent matter: convincing investors to see value in them. The post Inside LIV Golfs wild week: Bryson, Trump and the mystery investor surfaces appeared first on Golf.0 Comments 0 Shares 57 Views 0 Reviews
