This is also our first real opportunity to see the 2026 Giants in action. Well get to see how the arrival of a new coaching staff, off-season free agent additions, and draft additions have impacted the team. Well also get to see position battles play out on the field, with the opportunity for players to make real moves in live action.So then, we have a simple question for you this week: Which unit are you looking forward to watching the most? Do you want to see the offense? We might only see the vanilla foundations of the offensive scheme, but how do the Giants meld the input of former offensive coordinators Matt Nagy, Brian Callahan, Greg Roman, and Tim Kelly? Do you want to see how the offensive line is coming together? What the revamped receiving corps looks like? Isaiah Likely has been Jaxson Darts top target, so how do the Giants deploy him and Theo Johnson? Or maybe see the new-look running game? Do you want to see the defense? Three individuals and a state championship team make up the latest class set to join the East Lansing High School Athletic Hall of Fame.Heather (Brooks) Stanley, DeJuan Jones, Charles Pollard and the 1998 Class A state championship boys track and field team will be inducted at halftime of East Lansings season-opening football game against Midland on Thursday, Aug. 27.Stanley, a 2006 graduate, was a volleyball and track standout. She was an all-state volleyball player and Miss Volleyball finalist while playing a part in the Trojans making a run to the state quarterfinals as a senior in 2005. Stanley went on to play volleyball at the University of North Carolina and then professionally overseas. She currently is East Lansing's varsity volleyball coach.Jones was a 2015 graduate and soccer standout. The three-year varsity player helped the Trojans win state titles in 2013 and 2014 and was the first player from Greater Lansing to win the Mr. Soccer award. Jones went on to have success at Michigan State and is currently playing professionally in Major League Soccer. He also has played for the United States National Team.Pollard has been the head girls track and field coach at East Lansing since 1982 and guided the Trojans to a state title in 2009.The 1998 state champion boys track team had its 1,600 relay place first and Shaka Dhladla win the 110 hurdles. He was the first of three taken in the seventh round by Colorado at 195th overall. It seems the organization is clearly thinking of a Nikita Prishchepov type success with selecting a similar type player who had also been passed over in the draft once before out of the QMJHL.In 2025 Carrier was ranked at #148 by NHL Central Scouting for North American skaters and certainly could have been drafted last year after scoring 44 points in 59 games with Halifax. It was the jump from 18 goals to 37, good for eighth in the league and second in scoring on his team in his third QMJHL season, which caught the attention of the Avalanche to invest a draft pick in him. The Quebec native brings pedigree to the table as he was the sixth overall pick to Moncton in the 2023 QMJHL draft but a slow start with the Wildcats saw him traded for a better opportunity in Halifax where hes flourished.The competitive determination Carrier plays with despite not having exceptional size was evident in the few days of on-ice work at development camp. The nose he has for the net front and ability to score is an enticing attribute and hints at projections for those bottom six type forwards with a little skill mixed with grit which are valuable in the NHL.But first, Carrier is poised to return to Halifax this fall for his fourth season in the QMJHL and then hes committed to Boston University starting the 2027-28 season. Kentucky will face Indiana in the Great Lakes Region Tournament of the Little League World Series at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, on ESPN.North Oldham Little League, Kentucky's representative team out of La Grange, fell to Ohio 11-4 on Monday, Aug. 10. It allowed West Side Little League to find nine of its 11 runs in the second inning, including a two-run homer by Xander Kinkade, which bolstered the production. The loss came after Kentucky opened the tournament with a 12-2 win over Illinois on Saturday, Aug. 8.Kentucky will now look to bounce back against Indiana with its Little League World Series run on the line. Should it fall to Jasper National Little League, its season will end.Indiana is coming off an 11-5 win over Michigan, with eight of its 11 runs coming in the first two innings.The last time a team from Kentucky won the LLWS was in 2002, when Valley Sports American Little League out of Louisville claimed it all. Ahead of the Colts's joint practice Tuesday morning with the New England Patriots, Colts general manager Chris Ballard gave reporters an update on wide receiver Alec Pierce's rehab from late-March ankle surgery. Ballard said Pierce has had no setbacks in his recovery and had not received an additional platelet-rich plasma injection in his ankle since his surgery.Ballard said Pierce's rehab process has "had its ups and downs" as the receiver "finds his new normal.""We feel good about where he's at. We feel positivly about where' he's headed," Ballard said.The Colts GM said the team is taking Pierce's recovery process "day-by-day" and would not offer any timeline on when he might return. Ballard said the team's plan still is for Pierce to return in time for the team's regular season opener Sept. 13 at Lucas Oil Stadium against the Ravens.Separately, Ballard said that cornerback Charvarius Ward experienced back pain and irritation following Sunday's practice and did not travel with the team to New England.
