Anthony Colandrea quickly ingratiated himself with his Nebraska teammates. To be determined, and more important, is whether he can win more games in the Big Ten Conference than his predecessor. The Cornhuskers thought they had their answer at quarterback two years ago when they landed Dylan Raiola, the highest-ranked high school recruit in program history. It didn't work out; Raiola left for Oregon to back up Dante Moore this year. The Huskers went to the transfer portal to sign Colandrea, the 2025 Mountain West offensive player of the year for UNLV after generating just under 300 yards per game. Colandrea has much to prove, though. He started 31 games for Virginia and UNLV but never played against a ranked opponent. At Nebraska, he could face three top-five teams over six games in October and November (Indiana, Oregon and Ohio State). Colandrea established his leadership in the spring and bonded with some of his top receivers this summer during a trip to Tampa, Florida, to train for a few days. "Getting to know Anthony on and off the field has just been great," said Nyziah Hunter, the Huskers' leading receiver last season. "He's a great dude, great quarterback and has a lot of ball knowledge. When he came here, it was really welcoming and open arms with him." The 6-foot, 200-pound Colandrea gives the Huskers the mobility they had been lacking at quarterback. Whether it was because of a leaky offensive line or him holding onto the ball too long, Raiola was an easy target for pass rushers. He was sacked 27 times in nine games before a broken leg ended his season. His 9.7% sack rate was tied for eighth highest in the country among quarterbacks with at least 200 pass attempts, according to Sportradar. Colandrea said he patterns his freelancing game after Heisman Trophy winners Johnny Manziel and Baker Mayfield. "They can run around and make plays," Colandrea said. "It's just creating. You've got to run your offense, but when stuff breaks down, you still have to make a play." In two years with Raiola, the Huskers were 6-9 in Big Ten games with a middle-of-the-pack Big Ten offense. Raiola was sacked 49 times in those 15 games, with 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. UNLV was tied with Indiana for 10th nationally in yards per play (6.79) last year. Colandrea was third in quarterback rushing in the Mountain West with 46.3 yards per game and he had a sack rate of 5.7%. He threw for 23 touchdowns against nine interceptions. "Most big touchdowns are off a scrambling play, so thats what Anthony brings," Hunter said. "Every single time you're going to see Anthony scramble. He's looking to throw the ball. Hes not looking to go out of bounds or go down or take a sack." Coach Matt Rhule said offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen should have more plays at his disposal because of Colandrea's running ability and an improved offensive line. "It will allow him to call the game without a conscience and just go attack," Rhule said. Maybe the biggest adjustment Colandrea will have to make is learning how to handle the spotlight in Lincoln. By comparison, Colandrea was able to keep a low profile at Virginia and UNLV. At Nebraska, football is a year-round passion and a place where the starting quarterback's moves on and off the field draw scrutiny. "Honestly, it can break some guys," Rhule said. The coach said his counsel to all of his players is to take seriously what coaches and teammates say and not get caught up in the public banter. "You get to play at Nebraska," Rhule said he told Colandrea. "Were paying you a lot of money and you get the best facilities. Thats just what it is, man. Embrace it, roll with it and move on. Thats the only advice I have for him. Its like, hey, put your phone down and just watch more tape." Reporting by The Associated Press.

The Phoenix Suns will play the Los Angeles Lakers for the first time this 2026-27 regular season on Nov. 15 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, sources informed The Arizona Republic.The full 2026-27 NBA regular season schedule will be released Aug. 13 at noon MST.The Suns went 3-2 against the Lakers last season as they played an extra game against each other Dec. 14 after losing in the NBA Cup quarterfinals. The Suns challenged the call and lost the challenge.Phoenixs three wins against the Lakers last season were by an average margin of 14.6 points. Of course, since I was watching the game and they werent, I asked if a team had ever stayed on the field after the umpires called the inning over. What would happen if a team just stayed on the field? Im sure there is a rule against it.And people talked about Playing under protest. But that doesnt exist anymore:As of the 2021 season, Rule 7.04 in the Official Baseball Rules was amended to read:Protesting a game shall never be permitted, regardless of whether such complaint is based on judgment decisions by the umpire or an allegation that an umpire misapplied these rules or otherwise rendered a decision in violation of these rules.But baseball has to change a rule. If a run can be given 10 minutes after an inning has ended, a team should be allowed to appeal at the same time. It cant be a one-way street.Of course, I dont know that it isnt that way. I dont know that the umpires didnt get that rule wrong. They didnt call New York again to ask, Can the Jays appeal?But I believe that either a run shouldnt be allowed to be given after the teams leave the field, or an appeal should be allowed after the teams leave the field. It seems like playground justice to me. If one side can do something, the other should be allowed to as well.Id suggest a rule that, once the players leave the field, no changes can be made to the scoreboard. Im pretty convinced that, if the play had been the one where the Blue Jays got a run ten minutes after the inning ended, we would never have gotten that run. The umpires would decide it wasnt fair that the Red Sox werent allowed to appeal the player not tagging up, and let them. Actually, Im pretty sure it wouldnt have gotten that fair. The Umpires wouldnt have phoned New York to see if they could wake up the one person who understands all the rules of the game.I was also told, The Jays should have thrown to third. Well, maybe, but then players are trying to get the third out, and they will take it any way they can. If there was more going on than them getting the third out, the umpires should have said something before sending the players off the field.And, people said in the thread that John Schneider should have got himself kicked out. I understand the point, but Im sure he was just incredulous that this happened and tried to process it all. I cant imagine trying to figure out what they were saying. And, of course, yelling and screaming wouldnt change anything and only get him thrown out.We often say that the great thing about baseball is that you can watch for 50 years and yet each game can show you something youve never seen before. Sometimes that isnt a great thing about baseball.But the good guys won anyway, which makes it all worthwhile.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Vikings are naming former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray as the team's starter entering the 2026 season -- beating out 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy.Another layer of intrigue: Murray, the first overall pick in the 2019 draft and a two-time Pro Bowler, played the last three seasons in Arizona under coach Jonathan Gannon, who is now the Packers defensive coordinator. Released by the Cardinals, Murray signed a one-year deal with the Vikings, hoping a stop in Minneapolis can help revive his NFL career. Murray, 29, has started two games in his career against the Packers, losing both. He was intercepted in the end zone by Rasul Douglas to end a 24-21 win for the Packers in 2021, and he led the Cardinals to only 13 points in a 21-point defeat at Lambeau Field in 2024.
