Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs will surely have revenge on their minds, considering in each of the Knicks' four series wins, San Antonio held double-digit leads. Three of those wins also came on the Spurs' home floor. Is this the NBA's new East-West rivalry? Heat @ Celtics Spread: Celtics -5.5Moneyline: Celtics -185, Heat +154O/U: 228.5 WHAT TO KNOW: We have a new-look Celtics squad and a new-look Heat team. Boston traded one of its franchise pillars in Jaylen Brown, landing Paul George in the process. And as for Miami, it landed the big fish, Giannis Antetokounmpo. There remains question marks about how both teams will perform with revised rosters. 76ers @ Lakers Spread:Lakers -1.5Moneyline: Lakers -120, 76ers +100O/U: 234.5 WHAT TO KNOW: The king returns to one of his former castles. This will be LeBron James' first and only game back in Crypto this season, unless these two teams make it to the NBA Finals. James left for Philly in free agency after spending the last eight seasons with the Lakers. L.A. resigned Austin Reaves to a lucrative deal, and traded for Walker Kessler. Thunder @ Wolves Spread:Thunder -4.5Moneyline: Thunder -162, Wolves +136O/U: 231.5 WHAT TO KNOW: OKC traded one of its long-time starters in Lu Dort, but will presumably move Cason Wallace or Ajay Mitchell into that spot. How will their depth truly be impacted? As for Minnesota, they made one of the trades of the summer, landing LaMelo Ball in the Midwest. How will he mesh with Anthony Edwards? Nuggets @ Warriors Spread:Nuggets -2.5Moneyline: Nuggets -135, Warriors +114O/U: 233.5 WHAT TO KNOW: A classic Western Conference showdown between Steph Curry's Warriors and Nikola Joki's Nuggets. The question at this point of the season for both of these teams will surely be, has the championship window closed? Jokic has yet to sign an extension with Denver and Golden State has missed the playoffs twice in the last four years.0 Comments 0 Shares 76 Views 0 Reviews -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhen do Suns play rival Lakers for first time in 2026-27 season? The Phoenix Suns will play the Los Angeles Lakers for the first time this 2026-27 regular season on Nov. 15 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, sources informed The Arizona Republic. The full 2026-27 NBA regular season schedule will be released Aug. 13 at noon MST.The Suns went 3-2 against the Lakers last season as they played an extra game against each other Dec. 14 after losing in the NBA Cup quarterfinals. Phoenix fell to the Lakers, 116-114, as LeBron James made two out of three free throws to give the Lakers a 115-114 lead with three seconds left at Mortgage Matchup Center.Devin Booker was called for a foul on James' 3-point attempt. The Suns challenged the call and lost the challenge.Phoenixs three wins against the Lakers last season were by an average margin of 14.6 points. The Lakers won their final matchup of the season, 101-73, April 10 in Los Angeles as Jalen Green (right knee soreness) and Booker (right ankle) sat out. It was the fewest points Phoenix scored last season. James posted 28 points, 12 assists and six rebounds in what was the second of a back-to-back for the Lakers, who were without injured Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.Luke Kennard scored 19 points for the Lakers. He signed a two-year deal with the Suns this offseason. The Suns-Lakers matchup will have a different feeling with James no longer with the Lakers. The testy relationship between Dillon Brooks and James continued with Brooks on a new team, as their history goes way back to the 2023 playoffs when Brooks was with the Memphis Grizzlies.Brooks was ejected from the 116-114 loss to the Lakers last season after being called his second technical foul for unsportsmanlike physical contact with James during a dead ball situation. A fired up Brooks had made a 3 to give Phoenix a 114-113 lead with 12.2 seconds left and approached James after the clutch basket. Brooks attended Game 4 of the Oklahoma City Thunder-Lakers playoff series in Los Angeles last season. Sitting baseline, Brooks was captured on camera smiling at James, who was at the free throw line. The Thunder swept the Lakers as Brooks watched in person what proved to be James' last game with the Lakers. So Dillon Brooks did in fact see LeBron James last game with the Los Angeles Lakers.Crazy. #Suns#LakeShowpic.twitter.com/d9OiWkE5ML Duane Rankin (@DuaneRankin) June 30, 2026James, the NBAs all-time leading scorer and four-time NBA champion, signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, but the Lakers will always be a heated rivalry for the Suns.Phoenix and Los Angeles have four games scheduled against each other as both teams are in the Pacific Division. The Lakers open the 2026-27 regular season against the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 21 on ESPN, the Warriors announced Aug. 11. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWho is prospective new Celtic signing Hassan?Haissem Hassan featured for Egypt against Argentina at this year's World Cup [Getty Images]Having burst on to the World Cup stage this summer, breakout star Haissem Hassan now appears bound for Celtic. The Egypt winger is reportedly set for a medical in Glasgow after Celtic agreed an initial 6m transfer fee, that could rise to 9m, with Real Oviedo. It would end a saga and take Celtic's haul of new recruits this summer to three as the hugely-important Champions League play-off with LASK looms large.Martin O'Neill has stated his desire for quality over quantity in replenishing a squad that has lost more than a dozen players since last season's league and Scottish Cup double success. So, why have Celtic zoned in on Hassan and what will he bring?Celtic hope to complete Hassan deal soon - Scottish gossip'Celtic fans are going to fall in love with him' - Hogh makes his markFruitful World Cup & almost upstaging MessiHassan played just 126 minutes at this summer's World Cup, but it was enough to send his reputation rocketing. He did not feature in any of Egypt's Group G matches with head coach Hossam Hassan later revealing it was down to a paperwork delay in registering the former France youth international. The 24-year-old was finally unleashed as a second-half substitute in Egypt's last-32 penalty shootout win over Australia - before delivering a standout performance against Lionel Messi's Argentina.A left-footer deployed on the right flank, Hassan started the last-16 match and set up Mostafa Zico's goal, skipping past Enzo Fernandez before drilling in a precise delivery to help put Egypt 2-0 up.However, it was the Egypt's infamous disallowed goal in their agonising 3-2 defeat by the defending champions that showcased Hassan's direct running and dynamic dribbling qualities.Bursting forward from the right-back area, he evaded two challenges in a 60-yard run before threading a pass through for Mohamed Salah, who teed up Zico.Across his two World Cup performances, Hassan registered nine dribble attempts at a rate of 6.4 per 90 minutes. If Celtic had hoped to keep their interest in the winger under the radar, that prospect was blown out of the water with his impact on football's biggest stage. What is Hassan's back story?Hassan was born in France and represented Les Bleus at Under-17 and Under-18 level before switching allegiances and making his senior international debut for Egypt, his father's birthplace, earlier this year.He started his club career in central France at Chateauroux, featuring initially for their B team and then the senior team in the lower leagues.A move to Spain's Villarreal followed in 2020 where he turned out for their B team, then went on loan to Mirandes before returning to the Yellow Submarine for his first taste of top-flight football in La Liga.Another loan, to Sporting Gijon, followed and Hassan stayed in the second tier before a move to Oviedo in 2024.He helped the club win promotion in his first season, scoring four goals and setting up three, but the going was far tougher in La Liga last term.Hassan contributed three assists and couldn't muster a goal in 37 appearances, 20 of those from the start, as Oviedo finished bottom to immediately drop back down. His xG (expected goals) of 0.15 last season hints at a paucity of clear chances in a team that were the lowest scorers in the division by a distance.Where will he fit in new-look Celtic attack?Kasper Hogh is an out and-out-striker, while fellow new arrival Camilo Duran, who can play wide or through the middle, is left-footed but has been deployed on the right wing in Celtic's opening two games of the season. That right-wing berth would likely become Hassan's, with Duran shifting over to the left in place of Yang Hyun-jun.Manager O'Neill has also hinted at playing two up top, which would mean a Hogh-Duran front pairing and Hassan providing ammunition on the right with Yang on the left. That would give Celtic's attack a similar look to that of the Gordon Strachan era, when Shunsuke Nakamura and either Aiden McGeady or Shaun Maloney operated as inverted wingers, supporting a central pair of strikers - typically Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink with Giorgios Samaras or Scott McDonald.Celtic's link-up play really stretched Kilmarnock in the 5-1 weekend win, with hat-trick hero Hogh coming deep and going long to combine with his team-mates.The wingers and midfielders got into advanced positions throughout, with three different players providing assists for Hogh's goals.Adding Hassan would offer Celtic a fresh and exciting option in a fluid attack.Visit our Celtic page for all the latest news, analysis and fan viewsGet Celtic news notifications in the BBC Sport app0 Comments 0 Shares 75 Views 0 Reviews -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMore On Last Nights GameTORONTO, CANADA - AUGUST 10: Umpires explain a rule review to manager John Schneider of the Toronto Blue Jays during the seventh inning of their MLB game against the Boston Red Sox at Rogers Centre on August 10, 2026 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. (Photo by Cole Burston/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesI was told last night that the Jays couldnt appeal because they left the field. Of course, since I was watching the game and they werent, I asked if a team had ever stayed on the field after the umpires called the inning over. What would happen if a team just stayed on the field? Im sure there is a rule against it.And people talked about Playing under protest. But that doesnt exist anymore:As of the 2021 season, Rule 7.04 in the Official Baseball Rules was amended to read:Protesting a game shall never be permitted, regardless of whether such complaint is based on judgment decisions by the umpire or an allegation that an umpire misapplied these rules or otherwise rendered a decision in violation of these rules. But baseball has to change a rule. If a run can be given 10 minutes after an inning has ended, a team should be allowed to appeal at the same time. It cant be a one-way street.Of course, I dont know that it isnt that way. I dont know that the umpires didnt get that rule wrong. They didnt call New York again to ask, Can the Jays appeal? But I believe that either a run shouldnt be allowed to be given after the teams leave the field, or an appeal should be allowed after the teams leave the field. It seems like playground justice to me. If one side can do something, the other should be allowed to as well.Id suggest a rule that, once the players leave the field, no changes can be made to the scoreboard. Im pretty convinced that, if the play had been the one where the Blue Jays got a run ten minutes after the inning ended, we would never have gotten that run. The umpires would decide it wasnt fair that the Red Sox werent allowed to appeal the player not tagging up, and let them. Actually, Im pretty sure it wouldnt have gotten that fair. The Umpires wouldnt have phoned New York to see if they could wake up the one person who understands all the rules of the game.I was also told, The Jays should have thrown to third. Well, maybe, but then players are trying to get the third out, and they will take it any way they can. If there was more going on than them getting the third out, the umpires should have said something before sending the players off the field. And, people said in the thread that John Schneider should have got himself kicked out. I understand the point, but Im sure he was just incredulous that this happened and tried to process it all. I cant imagine trying to figure out what they were saying. And, of course, yelling and screaming wouldnt change anything and only get him thrown out.We often say that the great thing about baseball is that you can watch for 50 years and yet each game can show you something youve never seen before. Sometimes that isnt a great thing about baseball. But the good guys won anyway, which makes it all worthwhile.0 Comments 0 Shares 75 Views 0 Reviews -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPackers to face Kyler Murray in Week 1 as Vikings name their starting QBOver a month before the regular season opener in Minneapolis, the Green Bay Packers know who will be under center and starting at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings come Week 1. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Vikings are naming former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray as the team's starter entering the 2026 season -- beating out 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy.Another layer of intrigue: Murray, the first overall pick in the 2019 draft and a two-time Pro Bowler, played the last three seasons in Arizona under coach Jonathan Gannon, who is now the Packers defensive coordinator. Released by the Cardinals, Murray signed a one-year deal with the Vikings, hoping a stop in Minneapolis can help revive his NFL career. Murray, 29, has started two games in his career against the Packers, losing both. He was intercepted in the end zone by Rasul Douglas to end a 24-21 win for the Packers in 2021, and he led the Cardinals to only 13 points in a 21-point defeat at Lambeau Field in 2024. Murray did not play in Arizona's loss to the Packers last season. While undersized at 5-10, Murray is a dynamic runner and playmaker, and he's thrown 121 touchdown passes against only 60 interceptions while rushing for 32 touchdowns over 87 career starts. The Packers and Vikings will kick off the 2026 season at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 13.This article originally appeared on Packers Wire: Packers to face Kyler Murray in Week 1 as Vikings name their starting QB0 Comments 0 Shares 75 Views 0 Reviews -
