Texas leads the conference at No. 3, followed by Georgia at No. 4, Oklahoma at No. 8, Ole Miss at No. 9, Texas A&M at No. 10, LSU at No. 12 and Alabama at No. 14. Tennessee comes in at No. 20, while Florida barely sneaks in at No. 25.That means 36% of On3s entire Top 25 is made up of SEC programs.At some point, you have to ask: Are all of these teams really that good, or are we projecting the SEC logo more than what teams have actually proven?Texas being No. 3 is one of the easiest places to start. The Longhorns entered last season with massive expectations and failed to even make the College Football Playoff. Yet here they are again, immediately placed ahead of Georgia and defending national champion Indiana.Then theres Alabama at No. 14, Tennessee at No. 20 and Florida at No. 25. Tennessee finished last season 8-5 and unranked in the final major polls, but On3 already has the Vols back inside the Top 20.Meanwhile, the Big Ten has won the last three national championships, yet the SEC continues to receive incredible preseason respect. That doesnt mean the SEC suddenly isnt elite. The conference recruits at a ridiculous level, produces NFL talent every year and remains arguably the deepest conference in college football.But nine teams?And five Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Texas A&M in the Top 10?Thats exactly why fans continue screaming about SEC bias.Maybe On3 will be proven right. Maybe the SEC dominates the playoff and reminds everyone why it receives this type of respect every August. UCLA will be bringing a veteran NFL signal-caller into the building for the 2026 season.ESPN reported Monday night that former Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr will be joining the staff as a special advisor to new head coach Bob Chesney. Carr, a native of Bakersfield, California, who played at Fresno State, retired from the NFL in May 2025 after 11 seasons.Now, the four-time Pro Bowler joins a staff that has brought a lot of excitement to Los Angeles after it led James Madison to a College Football Playoff appearance last season."We are excited to welcome Derek to our program," Chesney said in a release. "He has played the quarterback position at a high level for more than a decade, and his experience, leadership and football knowledge will be an incredible resource for our coaching staff and student-athletes. What stands out most is his passion for the game and his commitment to developing young people. Derek will have a tremendous impact on our players and is a great addition to our program."Carr also has a prior relationship with UCLA general manager Darrick Yray, who comes in from Florida State. Yray was an assistant at Fresno State during Carr's college playing career.The Bruins struggled over the last two years under former coach DeShaun Foster, but they're hoping to make some noise in Year 1 under Chesney. Monique Billings made an outlet pass to Cunningham in the fastbreak with an open lane to the rim, but as she elevated, the Skys DiJonai Carrington attempted to block her shot and instead took her out by her head and neck.From purely a basketball standpoint, this foul was exactly what officials said it was: a Flagrant 2.Carrington was subsequently ejected, and what followed was another politicized moment in the WNBA.Minutes after heading to the locker room,Carrington posted on Threads, saying, White Privilege and tagged the Fever.The fact is, this was simply a bad basketball play, and should be treated as such.Allow me to cite the NBA for a moment. Charlotte Hornets guard Grayson Allen has a reputation in the league as being a dirty player after countless examples of making overly physical plays on the ball. But there wasone example from the 2021-22 seasonin which he took out then-Bulls guard Alex Caruso, who was midair on a fastbreak layup, that is somewhat similar to Carringtons play on Cunningham. Allen was called for a Flagrant 2, ejected and subsequently suspended one game. In the weeks that followed, Allen received a smattering of public scrutiny because many believed he broke an unspoken code that you dont make an overly aggressive play on the ball with a player in midair, because of the risk of injury.Why is this relevant now? Because unlike Allens play in the NBA, Carringtons has become about everything but basketball.Many WNBA players continue to ask that the league not get politicized, and that the discussion centers around the game itself. Cunningham herself said, The WNBA media, all we ever do is cover everything except basketball, in response to a heightened level of reporting on transgender women in sports that followedher public commentson the topic.However, when these athletes use their platforms to highlight non-basketball related topics, the news cycle will reflect that.Since its inception, the WNBA has been a league that embraces advocacy of social issues. Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice described the 30 days he served in a Texas jail during the summer as a "learning experience" and a "reality check, revealing that he navigated the stint by focusing on his rehabilitation from knee surgery and watching plenty of comedian Kevin Hart broadcasts on television to keep his spirits up.The 26-year-old player was booked into a Dallas County jail on May 19 after violating the conditions of his probation stemming from his involvement in a car crash in Texas that injured several people. Roughly a week prior to beginning his sentence, Rice underwent a surgical procedure to clean up joint debris in his right knee, which had caused persistent inflammation throughout much of the previous campaign.Upon his release in June, Rice resumed his rehabilitation work alongside Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes who was working through his own recovery following surgery to repair torn knee ligaments at the team's training facility in Kansas City prior to the launch of training camp."It was tough. It was mentally tough," Rice said of the jail stint on Tuesday, the first time the wide receiver has spoken publicly about his offseason. "They gave me ways to communicate with my teammates as well as my athletic trainer. Besides the hard times in there, just tried to keep positive as much Kevin Hart as I could to laugh, and communicating with my teammates on the outside."Rice has offered exceptional production for Kansas City whenever he has been available, securing 156 receptions for 1,797 yards and 14 touchdowns while contributing to the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory following the 2023 campaign. However, a suspension related to the highway collision alongside various physical setbacks forced him to miss significant action, restricting him to just 28 games played over his opening three years in the league.The coming season is undoubtedly the most critical period of his professional career.Beyond needing to answer a growing chorus of skeptics, Rice is entering the concluding year of his initial rookie contract. If he wants to earn a lucrative, long-term contract extension in Kansas City or elsewhere, he must prove his ability to remain on the field while consistently generating output for an offensive unit that desperately requires his playmaking presence."I mean, it's motivating," Rice said of impending free agency. "Honestly, just being back on the field with my brothers right now is motivating. That's in the future. And I'm just focusing on what's happening right now, and that's getting better for the team."Kansas City is looking to rebound from a difficult 6-11 campaign during which Mahomes suffered a knee injury, several key starters went down with injuries, and an offensive unit previously regarded among the league's best struggled to produce as a shadow of itself well before those players were sidelined.Chiefs general manager Brett Veach allocated the bulk of his draft stock toward defensive improvements, utilizing both first-round selections on that side of the ball. The primary addition intended to boost the offense was acquiring Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III to serve as the team's primary running back.Otherwise, Kansas City is depending on Rice and fellow wideouts Xavier Worthy and Tyquan Thornton to make substantial progress in their development, while counting on 36-year-old tight end Travis Kelce to remain a reliable target in the passing attack."We're going to do some amazing things," Rice predicted, "not only because we're great receivers but we have a great coaching staff around us, and a great quarterback and foundation in general."Mahomes has displayed his usual mobility throughout training camp, moving effectively on his repaired knee without noticeable limitations. That progress provides an encouraging sign for Rice, the overall aerial attack, and the Chiefs as they gear up for the upcoming campaign."He was my motivation every morning," Rice said.When asked if he had a message for supporters disappointed by his legal issues or younger athletes who look up to him, Rice pointed back to Mahomes and the teammates who supported him throughout his recent difficulties."Find someone that you can lean on. Find someone you can talk to," Rice said, "and basically don't be scared to vocalize yourself, or say exactly what's on your mind, because someone is going through the same thing.
