Scholes says Guimaraes will improve Arsenal but insists Spurs record buy Tonali is the superior signing this summer
Scholes says Guimaraes will improve Arsenal but insists Spurs record buy Tonali is the superior signing this summerPaul Scholes has said Bruno Guimaraes will make Arsenal a 'better team' but believes Tottenham Hotspur have signed the 'better player' in Sandro Tonali this summer. The North London rivals have raided Newcastle United for statement signings this summer, with the former Magpies' midfield teammates now on opposite sides of a fierce rivalry.Tottenhambroke their transfer record to sign Tonali from Newcastle in a 92.5m deal, before Arsenal completed the 75m capture of Guimaraes.Arsenal had been linked with Tonali prior to their pursuit of Guimaraes, and Scholes believes the former is the superior talent. He questioned whether Guimaraes has the physicality to succeed in a midfield two for Arsenal, despite offering attributes that will improve thePremier League champions."I think Bruno Guimaraes will make Arsenal a better football team," Scholes said onThe Good, The Bad & The Football podcast."I dont think the football we watched from them was great. You need midfield players to make your team play good football is he going to do that enough for Arsenal?"I know they won the league but I dont think they got the midfield right last season."Maybe this is the answer to it but I do think Sandro Tonali is a better player, hes got more legs about him."Guimaraes, you talk about going to Old Trafford... I think if he's playing in a two at Old Trafford it will be a struggle for him. Old Trafford's a big pitch, and I dont think Bruno is amazing physically, but he might be more suited to Arsenal."

Jammu & Kashmir set to host Irani Cup at Srinagar's Sher-I-Kashmir Stadium after four decades
Mumbai: In what would be the biggest cricket match in Jammu & Kashmir since the 1980s, the Sher-I-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar is gearing up to host the Irani Cup match in October this year between 2025-26 Ranji Trophy winners Jammu and Kashmir and the Rest of India from October 1 to 5.This will be the biggest cricket match to be held in Kashmir since the ODI between India and Australia on September 9, 1986. The venue has hosted two ODIs. In the first match there, India played the West Indies on October 13, 1983, with the visitors being declared the winners under the D/L system in a weather-affected game. In the second match, Australia defeated India by three wickets. From October 15-18 last year, the Sher-I-Kashmir Stadium hosted a key Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and J&K. Left-arm spinning all-rounder Shams Mulani won the 'Player of the Match' award after scoring 91 in the first innings and taking seven for 46 in the second innings."The Sher-I-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar will host the Irani Cup match between J&K and RoI from Oct 1-5," Jammu & Kashmir head coach Ajay Sharma told TOI."The stadium is bracing for the big game. It will need a major uplift as the match will be telecast live. The BCCI has sent its team twice to Srinagar to guide the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association on what needs to be done to host the big game. We need to have a commentators' box, proper telecast arrangements, a media box and a few more stands - both temporary and permanent - for the spectators," a source tracking developments told TOI on Wednesday. Presently, the stadium's seating capacity is 5,000 spectators. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to officially confirm the venue for the Irani Cup 2026.Captained by 41-year-old batter Paras Dogra, Jammu & Kashmir will obviously bank on swing bowler Auqib Nabi Dar, who was recently picked for India's two-Test tour of Sri Lanka. The 29-year-old fast bowler from Baramulla picked up 60 wickets at 12.56 in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy to finish as the leading wicket-taker.The Rest of India have won 30 Irani Cup titles so far, followed by Mumbai with 15 titles. After playing the Irani Cup tie, J&K will launch their Ranji Trophy title defence on October 11 against Madhya Pradesh. The defending champions are placed in Elite Group A in the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy, along with Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Baroda, Puducherry, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Goa.

This Is The Cowboys Time of Year Ex-Patriots Star Not Buying Into Hype Around Dak Prescotts Crew
IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters ConnectFormer New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel isnt buying into the early-season hype around the Dallas Cowboys. As NFL training camps ramp up, Dallas is once again receiving plenty of media attention. But Samuel took the opportunity to remind fans that midsummer Cowboys hype has become an annual ritual across the league.Ex-Patriots Star Asante Samuel Takes a Shot at CowboysSamuel shared his thoughts on X with a short but sarcastic message aimed at Dallas: This is the Cowboys time of year. The two-time Super Bowl champion didnt need to say much more. His message reflected the familiar criticism that surrounds the Cowboys every summer: plenty of optimism in August, followed by questions when the games start to matter.Dallas missed the postseason in 2025 after finishing 7-9-1, marking the second consecutive year the franchise failed to reach the playoffs. That recent track record made Samuels jibe particularly timely.Few NFL teams generate as much offseason discussion as Dallas. Highlight plays from camp, player soundbites, and roster projections quickly turn into big-time talking points whenever Americas Team is involved, with quarterback Dak Prescott and wideout CeeDee Lamb taking the center stage.PREDICT THE NFL SEASON:PFNs FREE NFL Playoff PredictorPrescott is coming off an impressive 2025 season. The veteran quarterback played all 17 games, completing 67.3% of his passes for 4,552 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He also earned his fourth Pro Bowl selection. Those numbers saw him rank #6 in PFNs QB Impact Rankings, only behind Drake Maye, Matthew Stafford, Brock Purdy, Jordan Love, and Sam Darnold.Individually, he had plenty to be proud of. However, those accolades failed to translate into team postseason success.Prescott Acknowledges the Pressure Heading Into 2026After Dallas missed the postseason for the second consecutive year, Prescott made it clear that returning to the playoffs is the bare minimum for 2026.It [expletive]. Definitely. But were pushing. Thats our goal. Thats a minimum, Prescott said earlier this year. His comment sums up the challenge facing Dallas. The Cowboys have enough talent to generate excitement every summer, but they need to turn that talent into meaningful postseason success. With much of the offense returning and the defense getting a new look under coordinator Christian Parker, Dallas will have another opportunity to prove its critics wrong.Until Dallas turns its regular-season talent into a deep playoff run, comments about Cowboys time of year arent going anywhere. For now, though, Dallas has the chance to change the narrative once the games begin. This article originally appeared on Pro Football Network.

Barcelona Move to Reward Marc Bernal After Breakthrough Season
Barcelona Move to Reward Marc Bernal After Breakthrough SeasonBarcelona are preparing to open fresh contract negotiations with Marc Bernal, despite the teenage midfielder having signed a long-term renewal only five months ago, according to Marca. The move signals how quickly the Blaugranas view of the 18-year-old has shifted since he returned from a serious knee injury. Why Barcelona are revisiting a deal signed last SeptemberBernal put his name to a contract running until 2029 in September, at a point when he was still working through rehabilitation from an ACL tear and lateral meniscus damage. That deal was, by Marcas account, as much a statement of faith from the board as a conventional renewal, and it came bundled with a 500 million ($528m) release clause designed to deter interest from elsewhere in Europe. The wages attached to that agreement, however, were relatively modest and were negotiated under the shadow of his injury layoff. Marca reports there was always an understanding between Bernals camp and the club that his salary would be revisited once he proved his fitness and tactical fit under Hansi Flick.Barcelona want to update Bernals salaryHaving established himself as a regular in Flicks rotation, Bernals financial terms are now seen internally as out of step with his on-pitch responsibility. Barcelona intend to close that gap and align his wages with those of his established first-team peers rather than waiting for the situation to become a point of leverage for other suitors. The urgency is also strategic. By moving early, Barcelona hope to insulate a core group of academy graduates from external interest before it hardens into concrete offers. The clubs approach reflects a desire to act promptly when young players become more important to the first team.Flicks personal interventionAccording to Marca, Flick has already taken steps to keep Bernal calm about his situation, calling him in for a one-on-one conversation in a similar manner to how he handled Eric Garcas circumstances roughly a year earlier. The German coach reportedly wanted to avoid a repeat of Dro Fernndezs departure to Paris Saint-Germain in the winter window, urging Bernal to trust the clubs plans for him rather than worry about his contractual position.Bernal has responded to that reassurance by continuing to perform, having featured in 19 matches across all competitions this season for a coach who first handed him a starting role at 17. Barcelonas broader effort to retain academy talent points to a club seeking to move early on its young players rather than let situations drift. When talks are expected to happenFormal face-to-face negotiations between Barcelona and Bernals representatives are expected to take place once the current season concludes, according to Marca, allowing both the player and the technical staff to stay focused on the closing stretch of the domestic and European campaigns. Before any of that, Bernal will be hoping to feature again when Barcelona face Levante in La Liga on Sunday.
