SPORTS.YAHOO.COMArsenal reignite interest in Aston Villa's KonsaKonsa was a key player for England at this summer's World Cup [Getty Images]Arsenal are reigniting their interest in Aston Villa central defender Ezri Konsa.Konsa, 28, is still on holiday after the World Cup and is not with the Villa squad for Wednesday's Super Cup game against Paris St-Germain.The Gunners' initial summer move for Konsa did not materialise, with the London club only willing to pay in the region of 30m for the England international who is valued at 60m by Villa.Konsa played 48 games in all competitions last season for Aston Villa, winning the Europa League.Having successfully signed Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle, Premier League champions Arsenal have turned their attention to defence and are accelerating their interest in Konsa, whose versatility is seen favourably at the Emirates Stadium.Arsenal accept they will need to significantly improve their original offer if they are to be successful in their efforts to land Konda but whether Villa are willing to let the defender leave for a fee under their valuation remains to be seen.Multiple sources have told BBC Sport the Gunners have also held exploratory talks with Tottenham over a potential move for their club captain Cristian Romero.Spurs are thought to have no intention of selling the 28-year-old to Arsenal given the intense rivalry between the two north London clubs. But that has not prevented Arsenal from making enquiries into what would be one of the most surprising transfers of the summer window.A knee injury against Sunderland in April ruled Romero out for the remainder of the domestic season but he returned to be a starter for Argentina at the World Cup, where he played 70 minutes of the final defeat by Spain.Latest Arsenal news, analysis and fan viewsAsk about Arsenal - what do you want to know?0 Comments 0 Shares 86 Views 0 Reviews -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAaron Rodgers Becoming a Valuable Resource for Young Steelers Core in Final NFL SeasonAaron Rodgers Becoming a Valuable Resource for Young Steelers Core in Final NFL Season originally appeared on SportsNet Pittsburgh. Add SportsNet Pittsburgh as a Preferred Source by clicking here. With a lifetime of experience on the field, Aaron Rodgers has embraced his role as the ultimate veteran. In his final NFL season, the Steelers QB is also embracing another role: mentor. After over 18 years in Green Bay, Rodgers spent two seasons with the Jets, overcoming injuries along the way. He signed with the Steelers last year and led them to the Wild Card game. He signed a one-year, $25 million deal to return for one last ride. The 42-year-old is one of the oldest active players in the NFL today. Mainly keeping to himself, as he hopes to do permanently when retired, becoming a mentor to this team means opening up, which his teammates have welcomed with open arms.Hes so open and so easy to talk to, Mason Rudolph said via TRIB LIVE. Easy to ask questions. Hes been a valuable resource.Rodgers spent the offseason hosting team bonding trips and organizing workouts. Hes worked hard to stay healthy and looks to succeed under new coach Mike McCarthy, the man he won a Super Bowl with as a member of the Packers. McCarthy replaced Mike Tomlin, who spent 19 seasons as Pittsburgh's head coach. While he likely wont participate in early preseason games, Rodgers has participated in scrimmages. Whether on the field or sidelines, Rodgers has either shared wisdom or helped the team cut loose during a time when the pressure is on for everyone.I like to be on the headset and calm everybody down, Rodgers said. Usually the first game, its a little hectic on the headset, so I like to be the voice of reason, (make an) occasional dad joke or one-liner, just keep everybody settled in a little bit.Bringing back Rodgers for one final season could help Rudolph and young stars Will Howard and Drew Allar, the latter two drafted in 2025 and 2026. The team also bolstered its roster by trading for Michael Pittman Jr. and signing Rico Dowdle, among others. On the sidelines, Rodgers will prank a few players, but will also offer advice. The latter is something rookie Germie Bernard will absorb and never let go.Every day is a learning process, Bernard said. Hes been coaching me up on the things that hes learned through the years. Hes great at giving advice to anybody that needs it. Hes great at coaching. He knows how to come to his guys and get the best out of his guys."Its been a tradition since the dawn of time where the veteran police officer in movies looks to end his final shift scot-free. Rodgers, who is susceptible to being sacked, like any QB, will take on whatever comes his way, as long as he can continue to produce for the Steelers.Aaron Rodgers career statsYearTeamGPCmpAttCmp%YdsTDINT2005Packers391656.3%65012006Packers261540.0%46002007Packers2202871.4%218102008Packers1634153663.6%4,03828132009Packers1635054164.7%4,4343072010**Packers1531247565.7%3,92228112011*Packers1534350268.3%4,6434562012Packers1637155267.2%4,2953982013Packers919329066.6%2,5361762014*Packers1634152065.6%4,3813852015Packers1634757260.7%3,8213182016Packers1640161065.7%4,4284072017Packers715423864.7%1,6751662018Packers1637259762.3%4,4422522019Packers1635356962.0%4,0022642020*Packers1637252670.7%4,2994852021*Packers1636653168.9%4,1153742022Packers1735054264.6%3,69526122023Jets1010.0%0002024Jets1736858463.0%3,89728112025Steelers1632749865.7%3,322247Total2645,6968,74365.1%66,274527123*NFL MVP**Super Bowl champion and MVPMore SteelersLatest SteelersnewsHow 'Renegade' became Steelers' pump-up songComplete history of Steelerschampionships0 Comments 0 Shares 90 Views 0 Reviews -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDoyle-Hayes ready to put injury issues behind himJake Doyle-Hayes moved to Exeter City from Sligo Rovers in August 2025 [Shutterstock]Jake Doyle-Hayes is aiming to put his injury issues behind him as he prepares for the new season with Exeter City. The 27-year-old missed the final three months of last season after undergoing surgery but returned to action in Monday's 2-0 Carabao Cup first round loss at Devon rivals Plymouth Argyle."Everything's gone well, everything went to plan," Doyle-Hayes told BBC Radio Devon."The physios have been really good with me and done everything they can to get me to where we are now and ready to go for the first game of the season," added the midfielder, who suffered a serious ankle injury while at Hibernian.Doyle-Hayes' first-half appearance against Plymouth Argyle was his first competitive football in six months [Shutterstock]Monday's game was the first time the former Hibernian and Sligo Rovers midfielder had played under Exeter boss Matt Taylor, who came to the club in March following Gary Caldwell's departure to Wigan Athletic. He is one of the more experienced players in Exeter's squad - he played three times in the League Cup for Aston Villa as a youngster, and had spells in the Scottish top flight for Hibs and St Mirren. That experience has led him to being appointed vice-captain as a young Exeter side look to try and adapt quickly to life in League Two after their relegation last season."I feel like I was ready for it, but really happy and honoured to have that position," he said."Hopefully I can bring some of my experience into the changing room and help out where needed."And despite being ranked as 33-1 outsiders to win the League Two title, Doyle-Hayes still feels the Grecians can have aspirations to return to the third tier at the first time of asking."We want to get out of this league, finish as high as possible," he said."I really think with the players we have, the mix of youth and experience, I think it's a really good mix and I think we can definitely get out of the league."Charlie Cummins showed what he could do at the end of last season and he started off this pre-season and against Plymouth he's played well, so I think he's really been exciting since he's come in the team."We signed Taylor (Perry) as well who's been really good since he's come in, so it's a really exciting team that we're putting together."Listen to Exeter City content on BBC Sounds0 Comments 0 Shares 92 Views 0 Reviews -
