2026 Group of Five betting preview, odds: Favorite over/unders, predictions for every team
The Group of Five gets one for sure seat at the 12-team College Football Playoff table, the automatic bid handed to the highest-ranked team from outside the big four conferences, and winning it is simpler than the win-total board makes it look. The committee ranks the champions, so the bid rewards two things above everything else: where you start in the polls, and how few games you can afford to lose on the way through. Start high, keep the schedule clean and you are the pick. When we run the whole group through that lens, one team sits at the top of both columns and it's the one you'd expect.Conference betting previews: SEC | ACC | Big 12 | Big Ten | Group of FiveBoise State the bid pickBoise State grades out as the best pure team in the entire Group of Five in our power ratings, and it opens the year ranked to match, which is half the battle for a bid that comes down to poll position. The other half is the schedule, and this is where the Broncos separate. Walk through their 12 games and we only have them as an underdog in one matchup, fewer than any contender in the group, and that is a trip to Oregon that the committee will forgive a Group of Five team for losing; it also doubles as the best resume-builder on the board if they somehow steal it. Everywhere else, Boise is a clear favorite. That is the entire formula, the highest starting point paired with the fewest landmines, the cleanest path to the 11-1 season that forces the committee's hand. The rebuilt Pac-12 is a real league now, so this is no cakewalk and their raw win total reflects that, but the bid is not a win-total bet, it's a survival bet, and nobody in this group survives cleaner.Bet: Boise State to make the College Football Playoff (+500)South FloridaIf the seat slips out of the Pac-12, the likeliest place it lands is the American, the deepest league in the group and the one whose champion tends to rank highest. South Florida is the name to watch there. The Bulls schedule up on purpose, and a Power Four scalp in September is the fastest way any Group of Five team climbs into the picture, which is exactly the resume jump the bid rewards. The only thing missing is a price. Our number sits right on their 8.5 win total, so there is no edge to buy today. With a new coach, QB and a ton of unknowns across this program, USF could be a sneaky fun pick to be in the Playoffs at 12-1.UNLVUNLV is a genuine Mountain West contender. Dan Mullen has built up a star-studded program that plays a good deal better than the market's read on it, and with Boise gone to the Pac-12 the Rebels have a real lane to the top of what's left. Our number nudges just over their 7.5 win total, a live team at a fair price, and the sort of name that belongs in this conversation even if it isn't the headline bet. We like them more than most do.Bet: UNLV over 7.5 (-149)RENO, NV - NOVEMBER 29: UNLV Head Coach Dan Mullen looks on during a break in the action during a college football game between the UNLV Rebels and the Nevada Wolf Pack on November 29, 2025 at Mackay Stadium in Reno, NV. (Photo by Greg Ashman/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesThe value: two teams that realignment forgotWhen Boise State, San Diego State and the rest bolted for the Pac-12, they left the Mountain West thinner and every schedule behind them softer, and the market has not fully repriced what that hands the teams who stayed.Air Force Our model has Air Force at 8.2 wins against a 7.5 total. A slate that eased the moment the conference lost its heavyweights. Four wins a year ago has the market anchored to the down season, but the option offense travels and there is no gauntlet left on this schedule. Buy.Bet: Air Force over 7.5 (+110)Fresno StateSame tailwind, smaller edge. We land the Bulldogs a hair under seven wins against a 6.5 total, enough to lean on but not to hammer. Think of it as a cheaper second serving of the softer-Mountain-West theme, sized as the lean it is.Bet: Fresno State over 6.5 (-120)The Board at a GlanceProjected wins vs. the market total, plus our read on a few teams.TeamOur projectionSportsbook O/UOur readBoise State7.2Pac-12 winner (+164)Bid pickAir Force8.2 7.5Buy overUNLV8.0 7.5Lean overFresno State6.9 6.5Lean overToledo7.9 7.5Lean overSouth Florida8.2 8.5PassOld Dominion7.5 7.5PassLiberty8.1 8.5PassJames Madison7.8 8.5Lean under

Kuldeep, Jadeja, Suthar: Will India play three left-arm spinners in Galle? Coach drops hint
India could field three left-arm spinners in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, with bowling coach Morne Morkel saying Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Manav Suthar offer different skills and can form an attacking bowling combination.Kuldeep brings left-arm wrist spin and an attacking option, Jadeja relies on accuracy, while Suthar bowls a more traditional left-arm spin.Kuldeep is there, and he's the attacking sort of bowler and for us, his experience and class can't look past. So yeah, I think for us they're all different in their way, Morkel told the media here on Thursday. So one (Suthar) turns a bit more, one (Jadeja) is slightly more accurate and I don't think it's a (three left-arm spinners) massive concern for us.Its just how Gill is going to use those guys at certain times. But yeah, I mean in terms of skill they've got the skill to get the 20 wickets for us, he added. Sahil_Malhotra1 (@Sahil_Malhotra1) Morkel said the Galle pitch could also support the decision to play three spinners, with conditions expected to become more helpful to spin as the Test progresses.Traditionally also if you look at the venue how it stacks and how it's been played up, that's sort of the way (three spinners) to go I think. The way we go with our spin bowling attack or spinners, its a very attacking option. But looking at the surface, you know, to me, looks like a good surface, and I think as the Test goes on, you know, something will start to happen. So, we've prepared for all that can come our way, as it is more about the mental challenge in playing these conditions, batting time, bowling those spells and getting the ball in the right areas, he detailed.India are also deciding on their second seamer alongside Mohammed Siraj. The choice is between Gurnoor Brar and Prasidh Krishna, both of whom have limited Test experience.Morkel said either player would be ready if selected.I think it's exciting. They've played a lot of cricket back home where it's also tough bowling conditions, and I think coming here the biggest challenge will be the heat and humidity."

Panthers get concerning Chuba Hubbard news amid hamstring injury
Panthers get concerning Chuba Hubbard news amid hamstring injury originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Carolina Panthers are going to have an interesting backfield this upcoming season, with Chuba Hubbard and Jonathan Brooks expected to split time for Carolina. But prior to the first preseason game after the Hall of Fame game, the Panthers got some bad news about Hubbard amid a new injury issue. As Mike Kaye of ESPN reports, Hubbard has a hamstring injury and is now week-to-week. This is a bit concerning, as he might be cutting it close to being ready for the regular season in September.Chuba Hubbard gets week-to-week injury update amid hamstring issue"Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard has a hamstring injury. He's week-to-week, per Dave Canales," Kaye reports. This is a bit worrisome for the Panthers, as Hubbard is supposed to be a key part of the offense, and yet he's now banged up enough that he'll miss some time.Fortunately, Panthers beat writer Sheena Quick reports that Hubbard is expected to be ready to go for Week 1 of the NFL regular season, one month from the day this injury was revealed. While there is some real concern with Hubbard, especially with Brooks coming back from his own serious injury, this update indicates there's a chance Hubbard won't miss any actual games this season.MORE:Lamar Jackson is already predicted to be a Hall of Fame QB for Ravens per ESPNBut what it does do is give Brooks a real opportunity to prove himself during preseason and potentially earn more work in this backfield earlier in the season.Hubbard missed a lot of time last season, rushing for just 511 yards and one touchdown on 134 attempts, with Rico Dowdle taking over the backfield for the bulk of the year. Now, Brooks might take over this backfield, as the 27-year-old Hubbard is going to miss a good portion, if not all, of the preseason, while Brooks gets a chance to thrive. But, for now, Hubbard is week-to-week with this hamstring issue, and his status will be one to monitor as the regular season approaches.More NFL news:Ben Johnson responds to Liam Coens pointed Caleb Williams commentESPN analyst predicts Josh Allen is already a Hall of Famer despite lack of Bills playoff successEagles' Jalen Hurts 'shouldn't have trouble' reaching Hall of Fame if he can continue to have playoff successCowboys QB Dak Prescott projected by ESPN to be behind Lions QB Jared Goff for HOF chancePackers edge Micah Parsons already predicted to be on cusp of Hall of Fame

Garrett Bradbury explains his responsibilities in the Bears offense
The Chicago Bears did not expect to go into this season needing a new center. But after Drew Dalmans sudden retirement, the Bears traded for Garrett Bradbury to serve as their starter for the 2026 season. There are a lot of responsibilities tied to the starting center, which is why continuity at that position is so important. Unfortunately for quarterback Caleb Williams, he has yet to have the same center two years in a row, which could have something to do with some center-quarterback exchange struggles in training camp so far.Bradbury has emerged as Chicagos starting center so far in training camp as he is listed as the starter on the Bears first unofficial depth chart. This is not surprising even though Chicago spent a second-round pick on center Logan Jones, who's listed as the No. 2 center on the depth chart. Bradbury does not take the responsibilities of the center position lightly."I relish it. I love it. I think its fun to play in," Bradbury said. "Thats where the film study and all the meetings and the coaches preparing you for certain looks all come together. Theres a lot of ownershipIve had coaches say in the past, 'You get the key to the car.' You get to take that ownership and make a lot of calls.I kind of love that piece of the game.Sometimes its a little bit like a puzzle, and youve got to solve the puzzle right before the ball is snapped and then youve got to do your job."The responsibility for protection and pre-snap operations is shared between Williams and Bradbury. With that shared responsibility, head coach Ben Johnson feels more reps could help this relationship."The more reps we get, whether its protection-wise, run game-wise where Caleb can help, [Williams] might see things that Garrett doesnt see, and vice versa, Johnson said."So we are all aligned and in the best position to execute the play."Follow Bears Wire onTwitter,FacebookandInstagramThis article originally appeared on Bears Wire: Garrett Bradbury explains his responsibilities in the Bears offense
