SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow Jeremiyah Love, Cardinals Starters Looked in Preseason Game 2Aug 13, 2026; Paradise, Nevada, USA; Arizona Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love (4) runs during a preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium. Mandatory Credit: David Brytus-Imagn ImagesIt wasnt technically week one of the Arizona Cardinals preseason festivities, but Thursday nights 27-14 win over the Las Vegas Raiders did offer fans their first look at what this Cardinals team could be in its true form come early September. And so, all eyes turned to RB Jeremiyah Love, the No. 3 overall pick as well as the non-Carson Beck quarterbacks tasked with getting him the football. It was quite the game. Jeremiyah Love makes good first impressionAug 13, 2026; Paradise, Nevada, USA; Arizona Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love (4) carries the ball against Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Taron Johnson (3) in the first half at Allegiant Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesLoves first snaps in a Cardinals uniform were quite the appetizer of his capabilities. The 21-year-old Notre Dame product made an immediate impact on Arizonas offense an encouraging sign for the return on the Cardinals third-overall investment.Love carried the ball 11 times for 58 yards an average clip of 5.3 yards per scamper. He also caught three passes for 14 yards, for a total of 73 all-purpose yardage. Beyond the production itself, Love displayed the mature, well-rounded skillset that is rare in a player of his age. He showcased his plus vision, acceleration and agility, all while leaning into contact and falling forward in power-back fashion. He rushed for chunks of nine, 14 and 16 yards. Jeremiyah Love SPIN MOVE pic.twitter.com/ZSkFmbgh6Q PHNX Cardinals (@PHNX_Cardinals) August 14, 2026Even against some of the Raiders starting defenders, Love looked every bit the part of a legitimate NFL bell-cow back, with some route-running and pass-protecting prowess in his back pocket. As early as it may be, Loves debut offered plenty of excitement for Cardinals fans. Brissett, Cardinals first-team offense look strongAug 13, 2026; Paradise, Nevada, USA; Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett (7) throws the ball against the Las Vegas Raiders in the first half at Allegiant Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesAfter Carson Becks eye-opening debut in the Hall Of Fame Game last week, it was Jacoby Brissetts turn to remind the Cardinals not to make any hasty decisions at the QB position. Brissett certainly did that Thursday alongside most of Arizonas other first-team offensive playmakers.Brissett looked poised, sharp and accurate. He only got one drive, but completed all five of his passes for 44 yards and fired a well-placed strike to Marvin Harrison Jr. in the end zone, capping off what was an impressive 10-play, 73-yard opening drive. Brissett averaged 8.8 yards per completion, did not take a sack and posted a passer rating of 142.9. As a long-time NFL veteran, thats how Brissett should look in the preseason. But he certainly looked the part of Arizonas starting QB in his first taste of 2026 action.Trey McBride did not play in this game. He didnt need to. But Michael Wilson caught two passes for 23 yards in the Puka Nacua role of Mike LaFleurs offense, Kendrick Bourne had a gain of 12 and Harrison looks ready to become a serious red zone threat. All of this was also made possible by a relatively strong showing by the Cardinals offensive line, who allowed just two sacks on 30 passing attempts. It was another encouraging look by Arizonas offense. But as good as Brissett looked, it didnt seem to matter which QB was throwing the ball. Cardinals QBs combined to go 26-for-30 for 212 yards, three touchdowns, no turnovers and a 130.6 passer rating. That speaks volumes about both the playmakers themselves and the upgrade in offensive scheme under LaFleur.Cardinals starting defense strugglesDec 21, 2025; Glendale, Arizona, USA; Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman Walter Nolen III (97) against the Atlanta Falcons at State Farm Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn ImagesThe Cardinals defense held the Raiders to just 14 points on 317 total yards. Unfortunately, most of that defensive production occurred once the Las Vegas backups entered the game. The Raiders marched down the field with ease in the first and second quarters, putting together scoring drives of 68 and 79 yards. Both Kirk Cousins and No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza had their way with Arizonas starting defense, combining to go 15-for-22 with 147 yards and two touchdowns. Arizonas defensive 1s looked, as they often did in 2025, a step behind their opposing offense. While they played a mostly clean game, it was clear the lack of high-impact defensive talent was an issue for the Cardinals. Standout DL Walter Nolen III had the lone sack of Mendoza and CB Denzel Burke had two pass breakups, but if not for a 4-for-13 performance by third-string Raiders QB Aidan OConnell against Arizonas reserves, there might have been a bloodbath on defensive coordinator Nick Rallis hands. For as good as the offense looked, the Cardinals starting defense did little to quiet any of their concerns.0 Comments 0 Shares 226 Views 0 Reviews -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRangers pitcher Jacob deGrom leaves start against Angels because of right triceps fatigueANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Texas Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom left Thursday nights start against the Los Angeles Angels after two innings because of right triceps fatigue. The 38-year-old right-hander, who has been dealing with a left hip and glute injury since the All-Star break, escaped a two-on, one-out jam in the first but gave up two runs and five hits during a 32-pitch second. He was replaced by right-hander Peyton Gray to begin the third with the Angels leading 2-0.It was the first time deGrom permitted five or more hits in an inning since Sept. 5, 2017, with the New York Mets. The two-time Cy Young Award winner allowed six hits overall, struck out three and walked one. He needs two strikeouts to become the ninth active pitcher and 94th in major league history to reach 2,000.In three starts against the Angels this season, deGrom has yielded 10 earned runs in 10 innings. One of baseballs best pitchers when healthy, deGrom made at least 31 starts per season and pitched to a 2.53 ERA across 622 1/3 innings from 2017-19 with the Mets.He won NL Cy Young Awards with New York in 2018 and 2019 and led the National League with 255 strikeouts in 2019 and 104 strikeouts during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. But deGrom made only 35 starts because of injuries from 2021-24 and underwent his second Tommy John surgery in June 2023, which sidelined him for much of his first two seasons with Texas in 2023 and 2024.___See APs full MLB coverage here0 Comments 0 Shares 152 Views 0 Reviews -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBreakdown of the Lakers' 2026-27 regular-season scheduleAfter a few matchups were leaked over the last couple of days, the full schedule for the 2026-27 NBA season was released on Thursday. For the Los Angeles Lakers, the way their schedule is arranged will be more important than it will be for many other teams, given how many new players they have and their resulting need to build chemistry. They will open their schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at home versus the Golden State Warriors, and they will wrap things up on April 11 against the Phoenix Suns. Los Angeles will have a total of 15 sets of back-to-back games, just one more than last year, and when one takes a look at the team's complete schedule, it looks like it will have an opportunity to build chemistry with its incoming players early. Here is a breakdown of the Lakers' 2026-27 season schedule and a few things that stand out.Their early-season schedule is manageableIn October and November combined, the Lakers will have 10 home games and 11 road games. They will have a four-game road trip in early-to-mid November and another four-game road trip in late November stretching into the beginning of December. But overall, their schedule shouldn't be too difficult during this time.Their only truly difficult games will likely be on Nov. 1 versus the Toronto Raptors at home, Nov. 2 against the Miami Heat at home, Nov. 8 at the Detroit Pistons and Nov. 27 at the San Antonio Spurs. One could also include a Nov. 30 contest at the Houston Rockets in this category of truly difficult games, especially since it will be the second game of a back-to-back set, but it is debatable whether Houston will be a legitimate championship contender or merely a good team. With a number of games against bad and mediocre teams in October and November, Los Angeles may be able to get off to a decent start. The longest road tripIt seems like it is an annual tradition for the Lakers to take off on an extended road trip in late January, just before the Grammys are held, which has resulted in this trip being referred to as the "Grammy trip." The 2027 Grammys will take place on Feb. 7, and the Lakers' first game of this season's "Grammy trip" will be on Thursday, Jan. 28 at the Indiana Pacers. This annual trip is always difficult, but this one may be somewhat manageable. On Jan. 30, L.A. will take on the defending NBA champion New York Knicks, and the following day, it will visit the Charlotte Hornets. The trip will continue on Feb. 2 against the Boston Celtics, a team that looks somewhat weakened on paper after their inexplicable trade of Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers.On Feb. 4, the Purple and Gold will play the Brooklyn Nets before facing Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs two days later. The trip then wraps up with a contest against the Phoenix Suns on Feb. 8.The last few weeks will be challengingBy March, the hope is that the Lakers will have built at least a basic level of chemistry with all of their new players. Later that month, they will have a challenging close to their regular-season schedule. They will have a five-game road trip starting on March 23 with games against the Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies and Thunder. They will then return home for five more games versus the Spurs, Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves (twice) and Suns. The Lakers will still be on national television quite oftenJust about everyone agrees that the Lakers aren't championship contenders right now. But despite that, and despite the fact that LeBron James left to join the Philadelphia 76ers, the team will still be featured quite often on national television. The Lakers will have 34 games this season on ESPN, ABC, NBC/Peacock and Prime Video. That is tied for the most national TV games with the Knicks, 76ers and Spurs. This article originally appeared on LeBron Wire: Breakdown of the Lakers' 2026-27 regular-season schedule0 Comments 0 Shares 154 Views 0 Reviews -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM49ers rookie WR De'Zhaun Stribling introduces himself with 63 receiving yards in preseason openerThe San Francisco 49ers are facing some major questions at wide receiver. De'Zhaun Stribling is looking like an answer. The rookie second-rounder was the breakout star of the Niners' preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans on Thursday, posting 7 receptions and 63 receiving yards on 8 targets.Half of his yards came on a highlight-reel sideline catch in the second quarter.DEZHAUN STRIBLING IS LEGIT pic.twitter.com/mI8JBDkkez Sleeper49ers (@SleeperSF49ers) August 14, 2026The Niners selected Stribling 33rd overall out of Ole Miss in April, adding him to a wide receiver corps that was, and still is, conspicuously missing All-Pro Brandon Aiyuk last season. Jauan Jennings led all Niners wideouts in yards last year and left in free agency for the Minnesota Vikings. Ricky Pearsall had the second-most and is out for the season with a PCL tear. That doesn't mean the receiver room is empty now, though. The Niners brought in a pair of veterans in Mike Evans and Christian Kirk during the offseason, and recently welcomed back Deebo Samuel too.Kirk is the youngest of that trio at 29 years old, though, so finding some younger blood was needed. Stribling was considered a bit of a reach at No. 33 Yahoo Sports had him as the No. 68 prospect in this year's draft but he's got legitimate speed with a 4.36-second 40-yard dash, good size at 6-foot-2 and was a featured player on an Ole Miss team that reached the College Football Playoff semifinal.Combine his preseason opener performance with a good review from quarterback Brock Purdy in training camp, and you have the makings of a good start to a professional career.0 Comments 0 Shares 207 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDetroit Lions injury updates: Good news on Ennis RakestrawAug 13, 2026; Cincinnati, Ohio, USA; Cincinnati Bengals running back Tahj Brooks (25) runs with the ball against Detroit Lions cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. (2) in the first half at Paycor Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Katie Stratman-Imagn Images | IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters ConnectThe Detroit Lions had a couple of injury scares during their preseason opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. But it appears its mostlyif not, allgood news for Detroit. After the game, Lions coach Dan Campbell said that Ennis Rakestraw appears to have avoided a major injury. At the start of the second quarter, Rakestraw took some friendly fire from linebacker Devin White, and a few plays later he made a low tackle on a play and did not initially come up. After walking off the field under his own power and going into the medical tent, he went into the locker room and did not return. However, Rakestraw got an x-ray which showed no structural damage, and Campbell says it could be something as small as an arm contusion. Its not major. It ended up beingits not a head shotwe just think he got a little contusion in the arm, Campbell said. It kinda made it numb, so I think hell be alright.Later in the second quarter, third-year defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo suffered an injury and did not return. Campbell downplayed the injury but did admit he may be entering concussion protocol. He just got a little bit of agot his bell rung a little bit, Campbell said. So he could be (in) concussion protocolbut I dont feel like any of those (injuries) are serious. The last player injured could be the one that may be more serious. Lions safety Loren Strickland came up limping while chasing down a receiver in the second half. Campbell said hes still hopeful for Strickland, but they need to do some imaging first. I think all of those guys are okay. Strickland, I think, right now is the one thats going to bedont know. Weve got to get an image on that, Campbell said. Overall, thats all pretty good news to get out of Cincinnati with minimal injuries.0 Comments 0 Shares 251 Views 0 Reviews -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFurlong using 'freedom of fatherhood' at Hockey World CupRhodri Furlong plays midfield for Wales alongside his work as lead clinical vascular scientist at the Morriston Hospital [Irfon Bennett]As Wales' men begin a Hockey World Cup campaign for just the second time in their history on Saturday, all eyes shift to Amsterdam.Danny Newcombe's side will face India, Pakistan and England in pool D with a squad of 20 players seeking success on the international stage. Some of the players are students, some of them work full-time, some part-time.The team have been crowdfunding to help to cover costs such as travel, accommodation and competition expenses.Of the players in the squad is 30-year-old Rhodri Furlong, who combines his hockey aspirations with his job at the Morriston Hospital. On top of that, Furlong juggles his responsibilities as a father to his son Max, "the ultimate distraction"."I try to compartmentalise and separate sort of the different things that are required of me," he told BBC Sport Wales."I write a lot of to-do lists, I tend to think many weeks in advance."Preparing for tournaments is a particularly challenging period but with the help of Emma my fiance, I think we're doing a pretty good job at the moment."Before May of this year, Max wasn't a very good sleeper so that was particularly challenging but sort of just persevered."I knew that along the line things would improve eventually and thankfully we're there now."Furlong says being a father has provided him with new perspectives on his hockey."I think it's easier or it's definitely a lot easier to step away," he added."If I play well or I play badly, Max doesn't care, he just wants to play. "That's particularly useful when maybe I haven't performed at the level that I'd like to."And Furlong says his play on the pitch has improved too since fatherhood."If anything, I think having him has probably improved my performances," he said."I don't overthink anymore, I just turn up and I play hockey because I enjoy it. "I play with more freedom."He paid tribute to the efforts of his fiance Emma."She's a a huge supporter of everything that I do," he added."I couldn't play hockey for Wales, manage a full-time job and be a father without her support and the support of our wider family. "I'm very, very grateful for everything that I've got there."Hospitals and hockey pitchesIn his working life, Furlong is the lead clinical vascular scientist at Morriston Hospital in Swansea, in a patient-facing role."I'm basically tasked with diagnosing various vascular conditions, predominantly with non-invasive tests and imaging modalities (technology used to take pictures of the inside of the body)," he said."There's a lot of ultrasound and I work very closely with the vascular surgeons with the interventional radiology guys, stroke teams and renal teams. "My day is sort of seeing patients, assessing them, writing reports and making diagnoses."So how does he fit it all in?"Normally I get up around 06:00, I train in the morning, I'll see Max just before I go to work then I work 08:00 until 18:00," he explained."I'll head home as soon as I can so I can see him before bed and then I'll either go on to hockey training or I'll potentially do top-up running depending on what has been programmed for that week so it's pretty busy."Rather than analysing blood flow in the hospital this week, Furlong will be getting the blood pumping as he swaps the hospital for the hockey pitch.A family affair in AmsterdamRhodri's brother Gareth scored from two penalty corners against Poland as Wales secured their World Cup spot [World Sport Pics]Furlong will be competing for Wales alongside his brother Gareth at the World Cup."We actually do get on very, very well," he told BBC Sport Wales."We've obviously got a different relationship from the other boys in the team because we are brothers. "Sometimes that means that things boil over in the way that we talk to each other. "Maybe you wouldn't talk to other teammates like that."But because we're brothers and we've been doing it for over three decades, everything's soon forgotten and we crack on. "It's been a pleasure playing alongside him for so long and I'm looking forward to continuing that at the World Cup."England and Wales drawn together at Hockey World CupWales seeking upsets at Hockey World CupWales warmed up for the tournament with a clean sweep of victories against Chile in Cardiff, winning three Tests 5-1, 5-1 and 1-0 in the Welsh capital. With a daunting run of pool fixtures for Wales, Furlong insists the team are excited for the task ahead."The pressure is definitely going to be on in the World Cup because every game is going to be a difficult game," he added."I think they all [India, Pakistan and England] present three distinct challenges. "We've got every confidence that we can go and if we perform properly, we've shown in the past that we can compete and go toe-to-toe with the best teams in the world."He says the roller coaster nature of their qualification in Chile in March should serve them well in the Netherlands this month."There's a lot of positives that we can take from Chile, even though it probably wasn't perfect," he said."It's just about doing that consistently and that's what we've been working really hard on in this summer block. "I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do when we get out there. "We've got a strong squad with a very healthy mix of guys who've been around for over a decade and then younger players coming through, bringing energy, bringing new ideas, new skills."Despite the delicate balancing act of Furlong's sporting, academic and family life, he says playing for Wales has been "the pinnacle of sport"."Everybody is incredibly proud to pull on the shirt and given how difficult it is to get to these major tournaments, when you do get there, it's really special," he added."It's not easy to maintain a full-time job, to be a father and to play hockey for Wales. "It's been very challenging at times but it means a great deal to me and it's something that I wouldn't easily let go of."It means everything."Wales men squadToby Reynolds-Cotterill (GK), Rhys Payne (GK), Daniel Kyriakides, Hywel Jones, Gareth Furlong (C), Alf Dinnie, Jacob Draper (C), Rhodri Furlong, Dale Hutchinson, Rhys Bradshaw, Fred Newbold, Gareth Griffiths, Ben Francis (C), Nic Morgan, Jack Pritchard, Jolyon Morgan, Sam Welsh, Jonny Fleck, James Tyson, Liam Barker.Men's Hockey World Cup Pool D fixturesSaturday, 15 AugustIndia v Wales (12:00 BST)England v Pakistan (18:00 BST)Monday, 17 Aug August Pakistan v Wales (11:30 BST)India v England (14:00 BST)Wednesday, 19 AugustEngland v Wales (11:30 BST)Pakistan v India (14:00 BST)Wales and GB's Shipperley ends international career0 Comments 0 Shares 178 Views 0 Reviews
