Texas A&M's No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class has taken a backseat to the preseason, as third-year coach Mike Elko and his staff are through seven practices this fall, and the 2026 season opener vs. Missouri State is just 22 days away.However, looking toward the future is never a bad exercise, and while some in the national media love to bring up coach Jimbo Fisher's historic 2022 recruiting class whenever the 2027 cycle is mentioned, it's time to put that comparison to bed. Even after losing out on five-star running back Landen Williams-Callis, who committed to Texas, the Aggies are in prime position to secure the No. 1-ranked class. While it's completely fair to be in "wait and see" mode with the 2027 class, 247Sports recruiting insider Tom Loy, one of the more trusted sources in the business, made an appearance on the Ruffino & Joe Show on Thursday to discuss the Aggies' 2027 class, destroying the narrative that the talented cycle is "completely different" from the 2022 class, citing Mike Elko and GM Derek Miller's football knowledge, with the coaching and recruiting staff being as "dialed in and buttoned up" as you find in all of college football. All 26 commits, with nearly half shutting down their recruitments, also fit the program's strong culture and expectations, which, after the controversial 5-for-5 rule was implemented, is extremely important as soon as each player turns 19 and is virtually locked in with a program long-term. Again, time will tell if this group pans out and reaches their NFL potential, but after Mike Elko saw a record 10 players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, the development plan is in place for all 26 commitments, including a nation-leading six five-star commits.
