Jeff Bezos consortium to buy minority Liverpool stake in 1.5bn deal
The consortium including Jeff Bezos has reached a definitive agreement to buy a minority stake in Liverpool from majority owners Fenway Sports Group for more than 1.5bn. 1892 Holdings, led by former QPR director Amit Bhatia and including the Amazon owner Bezos and Eduardo Saverin, one of the founders of Facebook, will have a share of between 30 per cent and one-third in the Premier League club. FSG will retain operational control and run day-to-day operations, with no change to the leadership to the club. John W Henry remains principal owner, Tom Werner chairman and Mike Gordon president while the clubs strategy and broader principles remain the same.Jeff Bezos has a wealth of roughly $270bn (AFP/Getty) While Bezos is one of the worlds richest men, with a wealth of roughly $270bn, there will not be a change to Liverpools transfer budget or policy, with no new funds for manager Andoni Iraola as he looks to bolster his squad. The club are also bound by financial sustainability rules while transfer decisions remain up to the clubs sporting side, led by director of football Richard Hughes.Bezos will not become a director of Liverpool but an expanded board will include Bryan Baum from K5 Sports, a fund in which Bezos is the lead investor, and Elaine Saverin, wife of Eduardo, the Brazilian venture capitalist who launched Facebook with Mark Zuckerberg and is now based in Singapore.Bhatia will become a vice-president of Liverpool. The son-in-law of the Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and another billionaire, he has impressed FSG personally and professionally and they consider him a partner who respects the clubs history and identity.Bhatia has been FSGs primary partner as their negotiations. The American group have often fielded inquiries from possible buyers and, while they had no financial need to sell, were impressed by the calibre of people involved in 1892 Holdings and their range of experience and expertise.Gordon, the FSG President, said: Liverpool has always been built by thinking beyond one season and making decisions with the clubs long-term interests in mind. That approach continues to attract interest from respected investors and business leaders around the world. As we considered this opportunity, it became clear that Amit and the consortium shared our long-term philosophy and appreciation for what makes Liverpool special. Their experience and perspective will complement the strong foundation already in place, and we look forward to working together.Fenway Sports Group, owners of Liverpool since 2010, retain operational control and there will be no change to the clubs leadership (Getty)Bhatia, who stepped down from the QPR board last month, was only interested in investing in Liverpool and had not looked at other clubs. When, after discussions, with FSG, the opportunity investment arose, he started putting together the consortium, including Saverin and Bezos. He said: We are incredibly proud to be investing in Liverpool Football Club and to be doing so alongside FSG. We have the utmost respect and admiration for FSG as owners and for everything they have achieved at Anfield. To be welcomed as a partner in a club of this stature is a huge privilege. We are making this investment because we believe deeply in Liverpool and its leadership, and we look forward to supporting the club's continued success for years to come.FSG bought Liverpool for 300m in 2010. The 1892 investment now places the value of the club at just over $7bn (5.1bn). The documents in the transaction offer some flexibility of how the relationship between FSG and 1892 could develop over time but it is not a pre-determined plan towards full ownership.

San Francisco's Oracle Park to host 2028 MLB All-Star Game
The San Francisco Giants and Oracle Park will host the 2028 All-Star Game, MLB announced on Friday. San Francisco has hosted the All-Star Game four times in franchise history. The last time the Midsummer Classic was played at the City by the Bay was in 2007 with the American League defeating the National League, 5-4, at what was then named AT&T Park. That games most memorable moment was Ichiro Suzuki hitting the first inside-the-park home run in All-Star Game history, jetting around the bases after a deep drive to right-center field off San Diego Padres pitcher Chris Young. The ball ricocheted to the right, away from Ken Griffey Jr. expecting a bounce toward center field. San Francisco previously hosted the MLB All-Star Game in 1961 and 1984 at Candlestick Park. One question regarding the 2028 All-Star Game is whether or not MLB players will participate in the Los Angeles Summer Olympics. With a short flight from L.A. to San Francisco, that may have been a contributing factor in Oracle Park being chosen for the event. Other logistics that need to be determined with the MLB Players Association include the possibility of a longer All-Star break with players splitting time between the Summer Olympics and the All-Star Game. Next years MLB All-Star Game will be hosted by the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Washington Football Receivers Impress In Midst of Position Battle
As the Washington Huskies approach the halfway point of training camp, a majority of Jedd Fisch's starting offense is set in stone. However, a starting opportunity at the wide receiver position has created an intriguing storyline through the early days of fall camp. With 2025 Dezmen Roebuck and senior Rashid Williams projected to fill two of the starting jobs, the battle for the X spot ramped up during Thursday morning's practice. Between Kennesaw State transfer Christian Moss and sophomore Chris Lawson, a plethora of big plays were made during the 11-on-11 periods of the workout.Chris Lawson pic.twitter.com/FQUPR4yw98 Roman Tomashoff (@rtomashoff34) August 13, 2026Moss and junior quarterback Demond Williams Jr. connected for two 13-yard touchdowns, including a heavily contested catch in the back corner of the end zone. Lawson, on the other hand, was able to showcase his crisp route-running with a pair of receptions of over 20 yards. The former four-star recruit also showed off his speed by taking a jet sweep for over 30 yards and putting the first team offense inside the 5-yard line during a scrimmage period.Although both wideouts appear to be vying for the same spot, there is a noticeable difference in their skill sets. Moss, listed at 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, poses as a deep threat and a major issue for smaller cornerbacks in jump ball situations. As for the 6-foot, 185-pound Lawson, he's displayed speed that can take the top off defenses and the feel for coverages needed to make plays in the middle of the field. With just 24 days until the Huskies kick off the season against Washington State, position coach Kevin Cummings' room continues to be one of the more intriguing groups of fall camp. Highly touted freshmen Jordan Clay and Trez Davis have also made their presence felt during camp and are expected to have a role in Fisch's offense this fall, adding both promising talent and depth to the group. This article originally appeared on Huskies Wire: Washington Football Receivers Impress In Midst of Position Battle

MLB Names San Francisco Giants Host Team For 2028 MLB All-Star Game
We're going back to Cali but maybe not exactly where Biggie Smalls was referencing. Major League Baseball announced on Friday morning that Oracle Park, home of the San Francisco Giants, will host the 2028 MLB All-Star Game. This will be the first time San Francisco is the site of the midsummer classic since 2007 and the fourth time ever (1961, 1984, 2007 and 2028). Now, while it will be the fourth All-Star Game in San Francisco, it will be the sixth time the Giants are the host team, as the Polo Grounds was the site of the Midsummer Classic in 1934, which was the second-ever MLB All-Star Game, and 1942; the San Francisco Giants were the New York Giants from 1883-1957 before moving to California, along with the Brooklyn Dodgers, who became the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1958. "The San Francisco Giants are incredibly honored to host the 2028 MLB All-Star Game at Oracle Park," Giants president and CEO Larry Baer said in a statement posted to the team's website about the news. "Were thrilled to welcome the baseball world to San Francisco and showcase our city, our organization, and our incredible fans. "Were grateful to Major League Baseball for this opportunity and look forward to creating an unforgettable All-Star experience for fans from San Francisco and around the world." MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred expressed that San Francisco "will be an outstanding host for All-Star Week." As for this year, the 2026 MLB All-Star Game was in Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, with the 2027 Midsummer Classic taking place at Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. This announcement is a smiling one for a Giants team in the dumps this season, as San Francisco is 50-71, good for 14th in the National League and 27th in MLB altogether under first-year MLB manager Tony Vitello. The Giants are on pace to finish with a losing record for the third time in four seasons and to miss the playoffs for a fifth consecutive season.

Former NFL Lineman Jared Odrick Finding 'New Purpose' In Racing
Markham, Ontario Jared Odrick is about 50 pounds lighter than when he was playing in the NFL at around 300-315 pounds. But the 38-year-old still stands at 6-foot-5. And for a man that tall who weighs about 250 pounds, getting into a race car can be tough. In fact, when he was in Las Vegas several years ago and attended a racing experience, he could only fit into a GT3 Porsche. But it was that trip that helped fuel his love of fast cars. He later bought a 901.1 Porsche Cup so that he could compete in SCAA amateur racing about four years ago. Odrick has progressed to a successful racer in TransAm and will make his second career NASCAR Canada Series start on Saturday on the streets of Markham, where INDYCAR is the headliner this weekend. "We had to move the footbox back a few inches," Odrick said during a virtual news conference earlier this week. "The seat was good. The height was good. But just the length for the legs had to be adjusted. ... Sliding through the window is kind of difficult. "I have a former football injury where I tore my labrum in my right shoulder, so I have some scar tissue there. But I also have a little bit of extra flexibility that I might not be able to have unless I had that happen that allowed me to get into the car." Having played seven years in the NFL where he totaled 170 tackles (135 solo) for the Miami Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars, the 2010 first-round pick from Penn State finished 22nd in his series debut last week at Trois-Rivieres. He was running well until getting collected in a wreck. "The competition was high, but we were so happy to see how competitive we were in a racing situation and how good the car was late in the race," Odrick said. Odrick would love to race Cup one day but he isnt focused on it. Currently driving for BC Race Cars in NASCAR's stock car series in Canada, he just wants to keep competing no matter the series, whether it's in NASCARs international series or in any national series. He does feel he could compete on any level if given the time to properly train and prepare with a team. He has competed against some of the top NASCAR prospects on road courses. "Everybody says they want to get to Cup, especially with the young drivers Im driving against in TransAm," Odrick said. "Sometimes when youre competing against 15-, 16-year-old kids whether its the Tristan McKees, Thomas Annunziatas and Brent Crews and stuff like that sometimes you look and feel silly that your goals and aspirations are the same as a 16-year-old kid who hasnt got a chance or is trying to actively prove themselves as a man. "Then you sit there. Did I not do that with the NFL?" With a home in Toronto near the clinic and a doctor who has treated him throughout his athletic career, Odrick said he wants to show he can switch to another sport. "I dont miss playing the game," Odrick said about football. "Its a young mans game, and I think if I missed it at 38 years old, Id be doing something wrong. ... Racing definitely has given my life new meaning, new purpose. "And it feels like a lot of the discipline that I missed as a young 20-something professional football player, Im definitely thinking about a lot."
