Not only is Palou favored at Markham and in the look-ahead lines for next week's race in D.C., but the reigning champ is a heavy favorite to defend his title. With six wins, six poles and a 110-point lead on the next driver for the championship, it's hard to bet against Palou. One To Watch That next man on the board, who sits 110 points behind Palou for the championship, is Kyle Kirkwood. He's also second on the board to be the outright winner at D.C. Earlier this season, Kirkwood got the win at Arlington, another inaugural street course on INDYCAR's 2026 circuit. With that in mind, could Kirkwood end up getting into Winner's Circle again as the series races on the streets of Markham for the first time?

5-star QB Trae Taylor on why he picked Nebraska over other blue-blood programs
2027 five-star quarterback Trae Taylor committed to Nebraska back in May of 2025 over some powerhouse programs like Michigan, Notre Dame, and LSU, among many others. Taylor is ranked as the No. 1 quarterback in the class, and he is 247Sports No. 8 player overall. Despite rumors of Matt Rhule being on the hot seat, along with Rhule potentially leaving the Cornhuskers, Taylor wasnt concerned. Rhule was in communication with Taylor the entire time and there were a variety of reasons why he picked Nebraska including Rhules role. There were multiple things that told me they were a fit, Taylor told The Big Lead. Whatever Nebraska told me they were going to do, they did it. [QB] Coach [Glenn] Thomas when I sat with him, he challenged me. And Nebraska made sure to get me on the board anytime I was in town, so they could see my mind processes things. The whole program recruited me not just the coaches. This was most important to me; the head coach was involved the whole time. Not just at the end.MORE: Ranking every projected Big Ten starting QB in 2026Taylor can succeed in any offense and wants to start Year 1The 63, 200 pound signal caller out of Omaha (NE) Millard South, is the top-ranked quarterback for a reason. He has a massive arm, can layer throws, and has the ability to run when needed. Taylor threw for over 3,300 yards and 36 touchdowns last season, with only five interceptions. Taylor has one more season of high school football, and hes excited to see what offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen will do this season as he enters his second season at Nebraska. I think I can fit in any offensive scheme, said Taylor. The one thing I dont want is to be running QB power 15 times a game. But I think we are going to see more from coach this year having a mobile QB. Which I think fits me perfect. And I think we will see them push the ball down the field more again, something that I love to do.Dec 23, 2025; Frisco, TX, USA; UNLV Rebels quarterback Anthony Colandrea (10) warms up prior to a game Ohio Bobcats at the Ford Center at The Star. Mandatory Credit: Raymond Carlin III-Imagn Images Credit: IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect (Reuters)What makes Nebraskas offense even more intriguing this season is the addition of quarterback Anthony Colandrea. The Huskers lost their prized quarterback when former five-star Dylan Raiola opted to transfer after his second season at Nebraska.Colandrea comes in after starring at UNLV this season. He threw for nearly 3,500 yards and ran for 649 yards. The dual-threat signal caller would have one more season of eligibility, but thats not stopping the top-rated quarterback from gearing up to start as a true freshman. All they are telling me is be ready to come in and compete, Taylor said. My goal is to start next season. But if get beat out, no biggie; Ill keep grinding to get better. What I love about the room right now is everyone is grinding together, and feels like everyone wants whoever is in to be great.Im a HuskerWhat exactly is Nebraska getting with Taylor? Clearly, the talent is there. He is a five-star prospect and a must-land recruit. But there is more to Taylor than just what he can accomplish on the football field.I asked Taylor what fans need to know about him, and he wants fans to know he is going to get to work, and most importantly, he is here to stay. Im going to work, Taylor said about his game. Im not going to take this school, fan base, or state for granted. Im going to be a good citizen of Nebraska. This is most important to me. I want to be at Nebraska, I want corn, and have the proud men and women who grow that corn to be proud of the Huskers. I want to be in those trenches with the guys who want to be Lincoln. Give me less talent but more heart and work ethic and we will figure it out. Im a Husker.Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories with The Big Lead Newsletter

Taulia Tagovailoa throws 5 TDs as American Samoa hands Team USA first loss since 2012 during Flag Football World Championships

(Photo by Ina FASSBENDER / AFP via Getty Images)INA FASSBENDER via Getty ImagesAmerican Samoa, the southernmost United States territory made up of approximately 45,000 people and located southwest of Hawaii pulled off what might be the most shocking result in flag football history on Friday during the sports World Championships in Dsseldorf, Germany. Quarterbacked by Taulia Tagovailoa, the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons QB Tua Tagovailoa, tossed five touchdown passes, leading American Samoa to a jaw-dropping 38-32 victory over Team USA, a squad that had gone 14 years without a loss in a competitive match. For the first time since 2012, when the Americans took silver behind Austria at the World Championships, Team USA fell short.Meanwhile, American Samoa which has fielded fewer than 30 Olympic participants all time and never medaled in the Games took a major, and undeniably surprising step, toward Olympic qualification.American Samoa just ended the USA's 14-year run without a loss. The last time USA men lost a competitive match was 2012, a silver medal finish behind Austria at the World Championships. Not anymore #FlagFootball#IFAF#RoadToLA28#OlympicQualifierspic.twitter.com/NXvhz54fHL Intl Fed of American Football (@IFAFMedia) August 14, 2026Less than five months earlier, Team USA embarrassed teams led by NFL head coaches and filled with plenty of the games recognizable players, both past and present, at Los Angeles BMO Stadium, where the first-ever Fanatics Flag Football Classic tournament took place. Team USA beat Tom Brady's team piloted by the Denver Broncos Sean Payton 43-16 and Joe Burrow's team directed by the San Francisco 49ers Kyle Shanahan twice by a combined score of 63-28.Granted the NFL-laden squads were playing with a few influencers, but those exhibitions still clearly illustrated the current gap between the NFL game and flag a bit more than two years before flag makes its Olympic debut for the 2028 Games in L.A. And now, in group play at this years IFAF Flag Football World Championships, Team USA, the winners of the past five world championships, found itself on the wrong side of the scoreboard against American Samoa.Taulia Tagovailoa led American Samoa to a historic win, throwing 5 touchdowns along the way. Team USA bounced back from its shocking defeat to clobber Australia 40-7.American Samoa and Team USA have both advanced to the quarterfinals. This years world championships mark the first Olympic qualifying event in flag football. The two-best finishers in the mens and womens tournaments will book their tickets to LA28. That said, the U.S. men and women pre-qualified as hosts, so if their teams place among the top two in either event, the bronze-medal winning squad will get the Olympic nod instead. Six total mens teams and six total womens teams will compete in the upcoming Olympics. After the world championship, the remaining three qualification spots, per gender, will be earned at the Olympic Q-Series in June 2028. The teams that obtain LA28 bids via the world championships wont take part in the Olympic Q-Series.The IFAF Flag Football World Championships, a biennial event, began on Thursday and will wrap on Sunday. Both the mens and womens tournaments consist of 16 teams in Germany this week. Those teams are split up into four groups in each bracket. Group play took on a round-robin format, with each team playing the three others in its group. The top two teams in each group go on to the quarterfinals. Thats where Team USA will take on undefeated Japan on Saturday. Before that, American Samoa, the unexpected winner of Group A in its world championship debut, will face Canada.

Eagles vs. Ravens: 7 players with most to prove in preseason opener
The Philadelphia Eagles will move from training-camp evaluation to live competition when they visit the Baltimore Ravens for Saturday nights preseason opener. Philadelphia has several established starters who may not play or could receive limited work. Their anticipated absences will create opportunities for rookies, reserves and veterans competing for roles within one of the NFLs deepest rosters. The Eagles must reduce their offseason roster to 53 players by Aug. 30, leaving only three preseason games for players to make their cases. Position battles at backup quarterback, wide receiver, tight end, offensive tackle and throughout the secondary remain worth monitoring. Here are seven Eagles with the most to prove against Baltimore.Tanner McKeePhiladelphia brought Andy Dalton to training camp to provide an experienced option behind Jalen Hurts, placing McKee in a legitimate competition for the backup quarterback job. The preseason opener gives McKee his first opportunity to demonstrate how much he has developed in Sean Mannions offense.McKee has displayed intriguing ability during previous preseason appearances, but his evaluation will extend beyond completions and passing yards. The Eagles need to see command at the line of scrimmage, efficient decision-making, and the ability to function when protection or a play breaks down. A composed performance would help McKee remind the coaching staff why he has been considered a promising developmental quarterback.Hollywood BrownBrowns guaranteed money and established NFL production make him a strong candidate to remain on the roster, but his quiet training camp has allowed other receivers to gain ground. Dontayvion Wicks, Elijah Moore, and Darius Cooper have produced more memorable moments in practice.Brown was also the intended receiver on two notable Jalen Hurts interceptions after defenders undercut the route. The plays were not entirely his responsibility, but Philadelphia needs to see him attack the football more consistently and build better timing with its quarterbacks. Brown does not need a dominant performance in Baltimore, but several catches and cleanly executed routes would help steady his outlook.Darius CooperCooper has been one of Philadelphias most productive training-camp receivers, making difficult catches and earning repetitions with Hurts. The challenge is carrying that practice production into a game. The receiver competition remains crowded behind DeVonta Smith, Makai Lemon and Wicks. Brown and Moore bring proven NFL experience, while Britain Covey and several others can contribute on special teams. Cooper must show that he can separate against unfamiliar defenders, execute his assignments and provide value when he is not the primary target. Hurts has discussed the value of working with Cooper, and a productive opener would strengthen the young receivers argument for a roster spot.Eli StowersThe Eagles selected Stowers in the second round because of his athletic traits and receiving potential, but his first training camp has required patience. He has spent portions of the summer working behind Philadelphias experienced tight ends rather than immediately securing the No. 2 role.Preseason games should provide Stowers with more targets and opportunities to play extended snaps. His receiving ability is an important part of the evaluation, but the Eagles must also determine whether he can block NFL defenders, execute assignments from multiple alignments and contribute on special teams. Saturday represents Stowers first chance to demonstrate why Philadelphia invested a premium draft selection in him.Markel BellBells massive 6-foot-9, 346-pound frame makes him one of Philadelphias most intriguing rookies. The third-round pick has worked at both tackle positions and impressed during recent one-on-one drills, displaying more movement ability than his size might suggest. The Eagles highlighted his work on both sides in their training camp notes. The Ravens will provide a significant test for Bells technique. He must maintain a consistent base, handle speed around the edge, and avoid letting his height create leverage problems. Philadelphia already has experienced tackle options, so Bell must prove that his developmental upside can be trusted if he is needed during the regular season.Michael Carter IICarters ability to line up at multiple positions has made him an important part of Vic Fangios secondary plans. He has worked as the starting defensive back in dime packages while learning responsibilities at nickel cornerback and safety. That versatility also creates a demanding preseason evaluation. Carter must communicate properly, tackle in space, and remain disciplined when shifting between assignments. The Eagles already possess considerable talent in the secondary, so his value will be tied to how reliably he can fill several roles. A clean performance against Baltimore would reinforce his position as a versatile game-day option.Kelee RingoRingo enters his fourth season at an important point in his Eagles career. Philadelphia added Riq Woolen and several experienced defensive backs during the offseason, creating more competition for snaps behind Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.Ringos size and speed remain attractive, but the Eagles need greater down-to-down consistency. He must avoid penalties, locate the football, and prevent receivers from creating separation at the top of routes. Special teams will remain part of his value, but a strong coverage performance against Baltimore would help Ringo establish himself as a dependable outside cornerback rather than another player caught in a crowded competition. This article originally appeared on Eagles Wire: Eagles vs. Ravens: 7 players with most to prove in preseason opener
