Barcelona has completed the transfer of midfielder Rodri from Manchester City on a multi-year contract for a reported $87.8 million fee. City will reportedly receive an initial $68.8 million fee, with achievable add-ons expected to bring the total package to at least $82 million for the midfielder entering the final year of his contract. Fresh off winning the Golden Ball and leading La Roja to a second World Cup trophy this summer, he is departing the Premier League. The move brings an end to the 2024 Balon d'or winner's time in England, where he established himself as a central figure in Manchester City's midfield. At Barcelona, Rodri will reunite with seven of his World Cup-winning Spain teammates. Those names include Joan Garcia, Eric Garcia, Pau Cubarsi, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Pedri, and Lamine Yamal. This transfer marks a return to Spanish football for Rodri, who previously played for Atltico Madrid and Villarreal before moving to the Premier League in 2019. Rodri is expected to arrive in Barcelona soon and could be presented before Wednesday's Joan Gamper Trophy match against Al Ahly at Camp Nou. Scottie Scheffler built up a six-shot lead at one point on Sunday in Memphis to open the PGA Tour's postseason.Stacy Revere via Getty ImagesIt was only a matter of time before Scottie Scheffler pulled it off again.After a season full of near-misses and second-place finishes, the top-ranked golfer in the world absolutely ran away with the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Sunday. Scheffler posted a final-round 66 at TPC Southwind in Memphis, which ended up giving him a massive eight-shot victory to open the PGA Tours playoffs.The win not only earned Scheffler a $3.6 million check, but it also solidified his spot stop of the FedExCup standings with just two tournaments left on the schedule.Scheffler has been firmly at No. 1 in the Official World Golf Rankings and the FedExCup standings throughout the year, but hes struggled to actually win on Tour since his season-opening victory back in January. Since then, Scheffler has finished in second five times, including in his last start at the 3M Open. A pair of those runner-up outings came in the form of a playoff loss, too.While 11 top-10 finishes and a win is hard for anyone to complain about, it felt like a weird step back for the man who had dominated golf in vintage Tiger Woods-like fashion over the past several seasons.But finally this week, things clicked again.Scheffler took the 36-hole lead at the midway point of the tournament, and entered Saturday with a three-shot advantage. That was cut back to just a single stroke after his 2-under 68 on Saturday, which set him up in the final pairing with Sam Burns. But that was all that Scheffler needed to work with.Very quickly, Scheffler managed to push his lead to five shots by the time he made the turn on Sunday. Scheffler is now just the fifth golfer in past 40 years to record multiple wins by eight or more strokes in his career.And his putter, which had been an issue just a few weeks ago, seemed completely fixed. He made 14 putts of more than 10 feet throughout the tournament, well more than anyone else in the field and the most in a single tournament in his career. In total, he gained more than nine shots on the green.Si Woo Kim finished alone in second at 9-under for the week. Alex Noren and Burns tied for third at 8-under.Rory McIlroy finished way back alone in 66th in what was his worst finish of the season this week, though hes still safely into the field next week in St. Louis. Jordan Spieth, however, stumbled late to fall outside of the top-50 despite his T19 finish.There is still plenty of golf to be played before the FedExCup trophy is handed out later this month at East Lake in Atlanta. And with the Tour Championship moving away from the old staggered starting strokes format, the FedExCup title is very much up for grabs. But with the way he played this week, Scheffler has clearly found his dominant game once again after it had eluded him for months. And stopping Scheffler when hes in that groove, as hes proven time and again, is nearly impossible to do.

NFL preseason games are almost always to be taken with a grain of salt. Oftentimes the matchup against lines of the depth chart are uneven. Teams, such as and especially the Dallas Cowboys, sit their starters for the entire exhibition schedule, leading to a bunch of twos and threes going against ones and twos. Add to that the desire of coaching staffs to keep approxiamately 99.9% of their scheme and play changes under wraps, and there's a lot of room for misleading assessment.Then there's also the stuff that stares an evaluator right in the face that can't be mistaken. Guys who are going to have to play special teams to earn a spot on the 53-man roster, can't look bad while playing special teams. On the other end of the spectrum, players who shine against weak competition often can't climb past proven assets who are sidelined out of precaution. That's what makes roster projections, such as this one, so much fun.A key thing to look at from the first preseason game, one which the Cowboys defeated the Seahawks 17-7, are the players who didn't suit up. If they aren't known to have had an injury, consider those players locks. The Chicago White Sox pulled off a crucial road sweep of the Detroit Tigers, delivering the final blow with a 7-5 victory on Sunday.Detroit had previously fallen to Chicago 9-5 on Friday and 4-3 on Saturday. Its the first time that the White Sox have swept the Tigers since 2022.The White Soxs win came despite a mediocre showing from ace Sean Burke, who allowed four runs early in the game and was pulled after 4 1/3 innings. However, a two-run home run Munetaka Murakami and a vital relief outing from Sean Newcomb ended up being the difference in the sweep-clinching win.Detroit struck first, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second off RBIs from Brett Callahan a recent call-up who hit the RBI triple on his first major league pitch and Max Clark. Chicago rookie Sam Antonacci got one back with an RBI single in the third, but a Colt Keith solo homer gave the Tigers an early 4-1 lead.The White Sox then slowly built their way back into the game, first with Drew Romos two-run homer in the fifth and then an RBI single from Colson Montgomery to tie the game at 4-all.Thats when Murakami stepped up, with the 26-year-old first baseman launching a ball into deep left field (nearly hitting the waiting Little Caesars glove, for what its worth).
