Why Dodgers fans booed struggling Kyle Tucker after latest mishap
Why Dodgers fans booed struggling Kyle Tucker after latest mishap originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Dodgers have largely been able to ignore an uncharacteristic season by blockbuster free-agent addition Kyle Tucker to this point, with a comfortable NL West lead in hand and World Series aspirations still very much alive. As Tucker's struggles have deepened and a rough August has persisted for the Dodgers, the spotlight has started to fixate on the former Astros and Cubs star.Tucker was booed by Dodgers fans on Sunday, a day after he was held out of the lineup due to "frustration" with his Dodger Stadium struggles, manager Dave Roberts said. Here's a look at the mishap that drew the ire of Dodgers fans.MORE:Why Tommy John's legacy goes beyond namesake surgeryKyle Tucker booed by Dodgers fansTucker couldn't haul in a catchable fly ball on the warning track against the Brewers on Sunday, drawing some boos from the Dodger Stadium crowd.Kyle Tucker, who is hitless on the homestand, was unable to secure this catch. After signing a four-year, $240 million contract in January, Tucker entered Sunday 0-for-19 on the Dodgers' current homestand and was 0-for-3 on the day when he failed to catch the fly ball.Tucker was held out of the lineup on Saturday due to what Roberts called "frustration" with his performance at home; the outfielder has been dismal offensively at Dodger Stadium but looked much more like himself on the road. Here's a closer look at Tucker's disappointing season.MORE:Watch these White Sox 'Peace by with you' videos to feel better about the worldKyle Tucker stats with DodgersHere's a look at Tucker's stats entering Sunday's game, including his numbers at Dodger Stadium:OverallGamesAVGHRRBIHOPSOPS+116.234115496.70596At homeGamesAVGHRRBIHOPSOPS+59.19221739.56656Tucker's struggles didn't receive as much attention in the first half, at least in part because the Dodgers were still winning at a high rate. August hasn't been nearly as kind to the reigning champions, as they dropped to 5-10 in the month on Sunday and just lost three out of four to the Brewers to fall three games out of the National League's top seed. The Dodgers were able to overcome missing a first-round bye last season and certainly have the talent to do the same this year if necessary, but they might need Tucker to start looking more like his old self.

List of 49ers players missing practice or exiting early balloons to 21
The San Francisco 49ers haven't seen their injury issues expand since the first couple weeks of training camp, but there doesn't seem to be any end in sight for their absences heading into a joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday. Sunday's practice saw three new absences to start the session with right guard Dominick Puni, wide receiver Demarcus Robinson and defensive tackle Gracen Halton all missing. Defensive end Titus Leo and defensive tackle CJ West both exited with injuries during practice. Five new injuries brings the 49ers group that either missed or didn't finish Sunday's practice to a whopping 21 players including the trio still on the PUP list. Here's the full list of 49ers who missed Sunday's session or exited early via ESPN's Nick Wagoner: QB Kurtis Rourke (ribs)RB Christian McCaffrey (tightness)RB Jordan James (ribs)RB Kaelon Black (adductor)FB Kyle Juszczyk (finger)WR Christian Kirk (calf)WR Demarcus Robinson (undisclosed)OT Vederian Lowe (ankle)OL Brett Toth (concussion)RG Dominick Puni (concussion)DE Titus Leo (unknown)DL CJ West (unknown)DE Nick Bosa (knee tendinitis)DL Keion White (adductor)DT Gracen Halton (ankle)LB Luke Gifford (hamstring)CB Nate Hobbs (groin)S Malik Mustapha (hamstring)RB Isaac Guerendo (pectoral), PUPTE George Kittle (Achilles), PUPDL Mykel Williams (knee), PUPWhile there's still time for this group to get healthy for Week 1, the days leading up to their Sept. 10 opener against the Los Angeles Rams are evaporating quickly. They're evaporating even quicker for those who are injured and still battling for a spot on the 53-man roster. Tuesday's joint practice with the Chargers will be a key moment for certain players fighting for roster spots and starting jobs, so getting healthy for that will be imperative. The same goes for the team's second preseason game Thursday evening against the Chargers at SoFi Stadium. Jedd Fisch wants to change coach contract rules in college football
In the ever-changing world of college football, Jedd Fisch is full of ideas on how to keep the Washington Huskies at the forefront of the modern world. On Wednesday, Fisch made an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show and was asked what rules he'd like to see enacted around college football, and he was quick to call out what he wants to see from some of his peers."We have to start with making coaches' contracts enforceable," Fisch said. "When we don't have coaches' contracts enforceable, we send such a bad message. We use buyouts, but in the NFL they make it very clear, you need permission to leave."As rumors swirled throughout the offseason that Florida, Michigan, and UCLA were all interested in his services, while Lane Kiffin held a bidding war between the Gators, Ole Miss, and LSU, before eventually choosing the Tigers, Fisch wants to see coaches held to a higher standard."And then the next part of it is, we have rules that in the NFL, you have contracts where you don't have the option to leave until you get to that option year, and then the team decides whether they're going to move on from you earlier in your contract, because you're getting paid, you're an employee...I know we don't use the word pay-for-play, but these kids are getting compensated for what they're doing, and we've got to make sure are able to have some rules that we all abide by." As he enters the third season of a seven-year deal, his comments feel like a great sign of his intentions to stick around on Montlake and continue to build his program. This article originally appeared on Huskies Wire: Jedd Fisch wants to change coach contract rules in college football

Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts defends Fever coach Stephanie White: Its not fair
Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn ImagesTheres been a lot of talk about the WNBA over the past few weeks, but not nearly enough of it has been about basketball.Between the fallout of Sophie Cunninghams comments regarding transgender athletes in sports, the protests for and against her stance, and the hard foul she took from DiJonai Carrington in a game, the WNBA has been used as a political football for parties whose interest in celebrating womens basketball is, by their own admission, minimal.Phoenix Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts is the latest to express his frustration with the current state of the conversation surrounding the WNBA.It really pisses me off, Tibbetts told reporters on Saturday. Its disappointing. This is a great league. Weve got great players. Theres great stories, great rookies, great teams. We just spend so much time talking about the wrong stuff. I dont know why that happens in our league. Its disappointing. I dont know who can help change the narrative. Is it the coaches? Is it the players? Is it the media? Theres outside sources that are trying to create division, and at times its not a lot of fun. Its not a lot of fun for our players. Its not a lot of fun for our coaches, our organizations, because we are doing great things.Nate Tibbetts spoke on the recent dialogue surrounding politics and the WNBA, especially involving his USA Basketball coaching partner, Stephanie White. It really pisses me off. Its disappointing. This is a great league. Weve got great players. There are great stories, great pic.twitter.com/CQwzmmbgDg Hayden Cilley (@HaydenCilley) August 15, 2026Tibbetts took specific issue with the treatment of Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White, who was criticized by some for what was a completely reasonable response to the hard foul committed against Cunningham. White said she didnt believe Carrington intentionally went out to strike Cunningham across the neck, but that it was a hard foul and thus called correctly. According to some, this response was reason enough to fire her.We make it about basketball, but some of the things that Steph has to go through thats wrong, Tibbetts said of the stituation. Theres no other coach in any professional sport that has to go through the stuff that she does, and I think of her a lot. Its not fair. Its not fair. Shes hired to coach basketball. They got a great team and theyre just dealing with stuff that doesnt really matter. So that still pisses me off.Nate Tibbetts on Stephanie White, via @HaydenCilley:Some of the things that Steph has to go through Theres no other coach in any professional sport that has to go through the stuff that she does Its not fair. Tibbetts and White, along with Golden State Valkyries head coach Natalie Nakase, will serve as assistant coaches on head coach Kara Lawsons staff for the FIBA Womens World Cup in September. The Fever are fourth in the WNBA standings with 10 games left to play in the regular season. Superstar Caitlin Clark is playing some of the best basketball of her career. If the conversation surrounding the WNBA can cool off just a little bit, theres plenty of great basketball on the horizon. The post Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts defends Fever coach Stephanie White: Its not fair appeared first on Awful Announcing.

Dolphins Fans On The First Preseason Game
LANDOVER, MD - AUGUST 14: Miami Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis (2) throws a pass from the pocket during the Miami Dolphins preseason game versus the Washington Commanders at Northwest Stadium on August 14, 2026, in Landover, MD. (Photo by Lee Coleman/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) | Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesFollowing our Miami Dolphins first preseason contest against the Washington Commanders this past Friday evening, I asked the following question:What were your takeaways from last nights preseason game between our Miami Dolphins and the Washington Commanders? What were the positives and negatives that you saw? What was encouraging, and what has to be addressed/hopefully fixed before the season begins?Below are some of your thoughts and answers-ShulaSunglasses had an unfamiliar feeling watching the first team play.Willis looked reasonably sharp and the O line moved people when the starters were in. The first drive represented what we will be starting in week 1 and it looked positive. I understand the Commanders didnt have theirs 1st team Def in on that drive which bewilders me, but I was pretty please to have a cohesive front unit and a qb who can move and throw. I was happy actually which is a feeling I am unfamiliar with lately.SOD1961 points out that the horrible cap situation led to woeful depth on this team after the starters. Not a lot of depth should be expected with 60% of the cap dedicated to players no longer on the team. A reset was needed to get the cap back in order. We are on the way up, but gonna be a tough year if injuries pile up like they normally do. Thanks Grear and McPansy. Summer of 24, aka Summer of Unnecessary Extensions, sunk this franchise at least through this season. If Hafley wins 6 games, he should be Coach of the year.gizmoe65 wants to see the team send Ewers packing like yesterday.Ewers has to go ASAP, hes not the answer. We need to make a trade for veteran back now.JUK was overall okay with what was put on film Friday night but is understandably concerned about the backup QB situation. The more i think about it the more Im ok with how it went. My main reactions:Our backup QBs are bad. The most disappointing thing was Ewers looking dreadful, but I thought his ceiling was capable backup anyway. I dont know how Malik will go, but if he gets hurt it could be a brutal timeConsidering everything our D was fine. We had 10 possessions (not including the one play at the end of the 2nd quarter) and had 3 turnovers and 5 3 and outs. To only concede 20 points (and just 3 in the second half when we had one drive with a first down) in those circumstances isnt bad. The only real issue was the Run D in the second quarterPleased we ran the ball ok with all units except the real scrubsOverall as i said elsewhere id rather win the opening drives 7-0 and lose 20-0 the rest of the way than the other way around. Better hope Ewers can bounce back if Willis does get banged uppete s. sees this squad only squeaking out 4 wins this coming season.WELL SEE HOW IT GOES4 AND 13 MAYBEheatforlife I guess wanted Simpson, not surety simpson 22 25 pre season or not thats hard to do in a game.proctor one pick before simpsonMiamiItaliano agrees with most of us on the starting offense and that the backup QBs are not serviceable. Starting offense looked sharp on the first drive. Defensive units didnt let the game turn into a blowout. Back-up QBs need to be cut.Unicornmiami99 would have liked to see the team select the future NFL star from the U.Clearly depth is an issue, defensive secondary and edge are obviously lacking. I still wish they picked local hometown hero Rueben Bain, hes looking like a stud, three sacks in first camp joint practice and betting odds favorite right now for defensive rookie of the year. Still very early and hoping Proctor pans out. While I think Miamis draft will ultimately turn out good, I still dont understand the first pick, just like I didnt understand the Kenneth Grant pick. But I am rooting for them and hope they turn out. On a positive note, Caleb Douglas may be the real deal after all. If this years draft outlier picks (Proctor and Douglas) end up being solid starters and draft class is good then maybe Miami has a chance in a year or two and wont have to reset again. Lets .coach k 13 just hopes that this ship is being steered in the right direction this time.Lets face it, we all know this will not be a good year, the first drive was awesome, not so much after that, hard to have any depth when you have no money to spend, lets just hope we are heading in the right direction for once!!!Ksphinfan says that with a complete and total reset of the team from the ground up, the lack of depth should be expected but will come with time. This year is a total reset. New g.m . New head coach. New quarterback. All kinds of new players and rookies. I cant remember the Dolphins ever revamping as much as they have this season. There is a major need for depth, but that will come along with future drafts and free agent signings. The expectations are low for me but the future looks better. I hope the new regime works out. Theres us older folks who dont have many games left to watch to be able to go through another reset in 3 years.James Pappas sees things as different since the GM is independent now.You dont remember 2019? With all those early blowout losses before Flores turned it around? That was just as extreme. But so far, this regime looks good. And theyre on the same page. Not with a GM doing things at a coachs whim.Thats our selection of comments for this evening. If you missed the post from last evening and would like to add your opinion on Friday nights game, please add your thoughts to the comments section below. It seems as if most fans are happy with what they saw from the first team and knew the lack of overall depth was expected given the roster teardown. As always, thank you to each of you who took the time to join in and answer our Phinsider Question Of The Day.

Manuel Neuer on Jrgen Klopps appointment as DFB manager
Dortmund's headcoach Juergen Klopp (R) consoles Bayern Munich's goalkeeper Manuel Neuer after the German Cup DFB Pokal semi-final football match FC Bayern Munich v Borussia Dortmund in Munich, southern Germany, on April 28, 2015. Neuer will soon end his career as the greatest goalkeeper of all time. Klopp has already cemented himself in manager history, with his stints with Borussia Dortmund, and even more famously, Liverpool.Despite Neuers return to the national team, fans will never see Neuer in Klopps lineup. After the World Cup, Neuer has re-retired from the national team, which coincides with Klopps hiring as the new manager after Nagelsmanns resigning/dismissal.When asked whether or not Jrgen Klopp was the right decision as Germanys next national coach, Neuer had some big praise for the former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund boss. I believe he has the greatest expertise and I hope that he will advance German football, Neuer told Sky Germany as captured by @iMiaSanMia.Hes not wrong as it would be hard to think of a better coach to lead Germany moving forward. At the time, Nagelsmanns expertise looked like the right thing for Germany, but personnel management and questionable decisions ultimately led to his demise. While there is certainly some excitement building around Klopps appointment, it is probably for the best to turn the page of Neuers time with the national team. It will be interesting to see what Klopps initial squad looks like and if Neuers retirement coincides with Jonas Urbig emerging as a future #1 goalkeeper of Die Mannschaft.Join the conversation!Sign up for a user accountand get:New, improved notifications system!Fewer adsCreatecommunity postsComment on articles, community postsRec comments, community posts

    Fifth Straight Series Loss
CLEVELAND, OHIO - AUGUST 16: Luis Rengifo #21 of the San Diego Padres is forced out at second as second baseman Travis Bazzana #37 runs into shortstop Brayan Rocchio #4 of the Cleveland Guardians to end the sixth inning at Progressive Field on August 16, 2026 in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by Jason Miller/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesAfter the great win last night and a three hour, ten minute rain delay to start the game, the Guardians were shut out for the eleventh time and for the fifth straight series loss. Tanner Bibee had a quality start and really push through some early struggles. In the top of the second, back-to-back solo home runs put the Padres up 2-0. In the top of the fourth, the lead off hitter drew a walk. A groundout and a wild pitch put the runner on third, allowing him to score on a two-out single. In the top of the sixth, Bibee worked himself into a bases loaded situation. Vogt did visit the mound, but Bibee remained in the game and got an inning-ending double play to retire the side.Your browser does not support the video tag.Bibee fell to 4-13 on the season with the loss. He finished the game having gone 6.0 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks. He struck out three batters. Matt Festa came on in the seventh inning and gave up a hit before the side was retired, with the help of a killer catch from Jos Ramrez.Your browser does not support the video tag.Tim Herrin started the eighth inning, but gave up a solo home run and recorded only two outs. Logan T. Allen finished the eighth and started the ninth. LTA also gave up a solo home run. Vogt brought in Cade Smith for two pitches to retire the side. You cant expect to win games when the offense only records three hits and three walks in nine innings. Bills' new grass field draws mixed reviews
The Bills have dumped artificial turf for grass in their new stadium. But not all grass is high-quality grass. The grass at Highmark Stadium drew mixed reviews in the preseason opener between the Panthers and the Bills. As one unnamed player told Tim Graham of The Athletic, The field is ass right now. But its early.Graham explains that one play resulted in a "massive clump" of grass flying into the air "roots, dirt, and all." Four players, including Bills quarterback Josh Allen, tried to stomp it back into place.Another player told Graham that the field was soft, but not in a good way."At least one Bills player spoke about the quality of the grass on the record. The grass looked good, Bills linebacker Dorian Williams said, per Graham. It was cool. A couple spots kind of chunked up a little bit, but its better than playing on turf."And, yes, grass is better than turf. But the goal should be high-quality grass that performs in a way that makes it unnoticed.

Another One: Marquette 2, North Dakota State 0
Two matches, two saves, two shutouts for freshman goalkeeper Mia Hurd. | Credit: Marquette UniversityWell, it wasnt quite the fireworks factory that we got in the opener, but the end result was the same: A Marquette womens soccer victory! Megan Murray scored twice, once early and once late, and when you combine that with a pair of saves from freshman goalie Mia Hurd, you get a 2-0 shutout victory over North Dakota State on Sunday afternoon in Fargo. That moves Marquette to 2-0-0 on the year, which keeps the Golden Eagles on target to try to get to the best start under third year head coach Chris Allen. In the opener, it was Megan Murray scoring in the fifth minute, a little bit assisted by some wonky defending by St. Thomas on a free kick. This one was a little later, coming in the 10th minute, and it was also a little bit assisted by the defense. The NDSU defender cut off a long boom of a kick down the sideline from Marquette but didnt see Murray bolting to intercept the lazy back pass to keeper Payton Mulberry. 10' | MU 1 | NDSU 0Two games, two goals for 24#WeAreMarquette | #MarquetteWSOCpic.twitter.com/NDbXrh5IJl MARQUETTE Soccer (@MarquetteWSOC) August 16, 2026That goal stood up as the margin at halftime, kind of because the two teams only combined for 10 shots in the first 45 minutes, with one of them as Murrays shot. Along the way, Mia Hurd made her first collegiate save after not needing to make one to keep St. Thomas off the board. As the second half went along, the field slowly tilted in Marquettes favor. The shots after halftime ended up at 9-3 favoring the Golden Eagles, with the Bison tallying their last attempt of the game just past the 70 minute mark. The pressure really kicked up for Marquette in the final 10 minutes, which is neat because that means that they werent laying back and trying to run out the clock with a 1-0 lead. Then, in the 85th minute, Megan Murray took up the role of Johnny-On-The-Spot: 85' | MU 2 | NDSU 0Leigh's shot rings off the post, and Murray is there to clean up the rebound for her second goal of the day!#WeAreMarquette | #MarquetteWSOCpic.twitter.com/lgESajfFAm MARQUETTE Soccer (@MarquetteWSOC) August 16, 2026Jocelyn Leigh did the heavy lifting there, fighting through traffic, maintaining possession, and firing off a tough turn around shot. As it happens, Mulberry was way off the line as she never retreated far enough back, thinking she might be able to dive on the ball if it popped away from Leigh. It didnt, she got a bad dive at it and it went past. to the post. One of the defenders that Leigh fought through finally realized that it was time to go do something, but by that point, Murray had already finished running into position in case something interesting happened. It did happen, and she was there for her third goal in two matches. How about 2:20ish of highlights, courtesy of GoMarquette.com and Midco Sports Plus? No, its not just the two goals.Up Next: How about a home opener? Steelers training camp: Punches thrown and a clear leader for the RB3 role headline Sundays practice
LATROBE- After a laid-back and padless Saturday practice that lasted just about 55 minutes in total, Sundays session was as physical and as long as we have seen any practice this camp. Practice came to sort of a natural stop after a massive fight in which the whole team got involved. Here is everything you need to know from a fun-filled Sunday practice.Punches were thrownAt the very end of practice, wide receiver Max Hurleman caught a ball and ran forward for a few yards before rookie safety Robert Spears-Jennings lowered his shoulder and put Hurleman in the dirt. The receiver did not take it too kindly, as he popped right back up and got in the rookie safetys face. Seconds later, Hurleman and Spears-Jennings seemed to take each other to the ground fighting. This prompted the entire team to run over and get involved.Somehow in the middle of it all, tight end Jaheim Bell and safety DeShon Elliott got into a serious altercation in which Bell was landing haymakers on Elliott. Bell even ripped off Elliotts helmet at one point and was punching him in the face rather than his helmet. The huge brawl was eventually broken up by the coaching staff and some of the veteran players. The team ran one more play after the scuffle, but tempers had flared too much by that point to continue practice for much longer. This frustration seemed to be building all practice long between the offense and defense after newly signed linebacker Elandon Roberts seemed to disregard the no live tackling rules at several points during camp. There were plenty of moments where you could audibly hear the offense yell come on E-Rob. Although it wasnt Roberts involved in the fight that boiled over, he certainly played a key role in why we saw such a big disagreement today.Lew Nichols has a strong hold on the RB3 jobI do believe we are getting to the point with Lew Nichols where calling him a camp darling doesnt begin to to do the the team seems to view him justice. Despite averaging just 3.6 yards per carry in the teams preseason opener, Nichols paced the Steelers running back room and led them in touches. In the walkthrough period to open practice, Nichols was on the field with Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle with the first and second teams while Eli Heidenreich and Kaleb Johnson were over on the second practice field with the third and fourth teams.Nichols was always the third RB in line to get touches during drills and team periods. The way things played out in the preseason game and where the team has him playing in practice suggests they are at least strongly considering Nichols for the role. The running back had several touchdowns during 11-on-11 drills in practice and clearly has the support of others on the offense. Nichols could be on the verge of making the team with a strong finish to the preseason.Rodgers-to-Wilson connection continues to pace the offenseDuring the first play of the teams Franco moment, Rodgers stepped back and fired a laser over the middle to Roman Wilson, who caught the ball in stride for a huge gain. Wilson was quiet in his limited playing time in the preseason, but continues to have one of the strongest camps of any player. Later in practice, Rodgers hit Wilson again for a huge gain on what seemed to be the same play.Wilson seems to have his most success in the slot, which should bode well for his regular season projections given he has had to play outside more with the injuries to DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. On Thursday, he mostly played outside with both Metcalf and Pittman out. Other notes:RB Eli Heidenreich made a spinning catch for a touchdown on a Mason Rudolph pass, which got a huge reaction from the crowd. The Mt. Lebanon kid is already a massive fan favorite.CB DShawn Jamison had a quality day with a PBU in 7-on-7s and an interception of a Drew Allar pass in red zone drills.DL Yahya Black was disruptive today. Black blew up several run plays during team periods and looks to be set up for increased opportunities in year two.Payton Wilson seems to have improved as a run defender this camp. Today was no exception as he was in the backfield and stopped a Lew Nichols carry for what would have been a tackle for a loss in a game setting.Elandon Roberts is back in his old number 50 jersey, while Jamin Davis is now wearing 57.DeShon Elliott and Darnell Washington were chirping at each other long after a play in which Elliott broke up a pass intended for Washington. This might have played into the serious altercation Elliott later had with Bell.Let us know what you think in the comments.Be sure to bookmark Behind the Steel Curtain for all the latest news, breakdowns, and more!Nick Herbig gets emotional celebrating Keeanu Bentons extensionMike McCarthy says Steelers saw Drew Allar as a first-round talentSteelers Film Room: Highs and lows of 2026 preseason debut against the Green Bay Packers5 takeaways from the Steelers 28-9 win over the Green Bay PackersSteelers mailbag: Rookies, Big Mike McCarthy, and future QBs
