Steelers predicted to pull off trade for $70 million WR with two 1,000-yard seasons
Steelers predicted to pull off trade for $70 million WR with two 1,000-yard seasons originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. It's no secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers need help at wide receiver. That has been an issue for each of the last two seasons, as the Steelers failed to get adequate help for George Pickens in 2024, and then DK Metcalf in 2025.The result has been Pittsburgh sporting one of the worst wide receivers rooms in the league in that span and that's something general manager Omar Khan simply cannot allow to continue. The Steelers should be active in free agency and in the draft to address the position, but pulling off a trade is another option and USA TODAY' Ayrton Ostly offers up a strong suggestion.Ostly predicts the Steelers will pull off a trade with the Indianapolis Colts for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., who has one more year left on his $70 million deal. Here's Ostly's thoughts on the Steelers going after Pittman:For Pittsburgh, the offense could use more weapons on the outside beyond D.K. Metcalf. Hes a vertical threat thanks to his speed and Pittman would bring another physical skillset to the offense. The Steelers have a dozen picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, including a projected five combined selections in Round 3 and Round 4. If theyre willing to take on most of his salary, Indianapolis could get one of those selections back in a deal that may be worthwhile for both teams. This trade would make total sense for both teams.Pittman is an experienced veteran target who could offer a nice complement across from Metcalf.Pittman has tallied two 1,000-yard seasons during his career and is a strong weapon in the short-to-intermediate areas of the field, and he is an asset near the goal line with his 6-foot-4 frame. The Colts find themselves in a tough spot this offseason, as the team clearly wants to bring Alec Pierce back but might have trouble giving him what he wants with Pittman's significant contract already on the books.Unloading Pittman in a trade would free up a whopping $24 million in cap space for the Colts, which they can then turn around and use on Pierce. Indy would also avoid allowing Pittman to walk in free agency for nothing next offseason. And Pittman being in a contract year is good for the Steelers for two reasons: it will make him cheaper in a trade, and Pittsburgh can wipe Pittman off their books completely in 2027 if he doesn't pan out.Sure, the Steelers might be giving up a draft pick for a one-year rental, but Pittsburgh is also loaded with draft picks in 2026, so the team can afford it.This trade just makes too much sense not to happen. If the price is right, Khan and the Steelers should absolutely pull the trigger.More NFL NewsSteelers trade rumor is bad news for Giants, Commanders, BroncosTyler Linderbaum rumors spell trouble for Ravens keeping Pro Bowl centerCowboys, Eagles, Bears, Bills fans will love Maxx Crosby trade rumorWhy Browns, Texans pulled off trade involving RT Tytus HowardRumor from ESPN makes Cardinals and Packers threats for Rams FA

England players 'fear being forced to take a stand on political issues' as World Cup creeps closer
England players are apprehensive about being compelled to adopt political positions at this summer's World Cup, according to the Professional Footballers' Association's chief executive.Maheta Molango disclosed that he has held conversations with members of Thomas Tuchel's squad regarding their concerns ahead of the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The PFA boss stated his aim is to prevent players from being "hung out to dry" a fate he believes befell them during the previous World Cup in Qatar.Political upheaval has cast a shadow over preparations for the competition, with the Donald Trump-led US-Israeli conflict with Iran dominating headlines.TRENDINGStoriesVideosYour SaySpeaking to Sky News, Molango explained the frustrations felt within the squad."However, what some of them have told me is that they found it a little bit unfair that ultimately, for as much as they have a platform, why should they turn into spokespeople for governments or for governing bodies that in reality should be the ones taking the lead?" he said. The PFA chief added that players felt let down at the 2022 tournament. "Instead of having the government or having the governing body showing leadership on certain topics, all of a sudden the players were asked to become political spokespeople and that's not what they are," Molango stated."Those people are paid for delivering a show on the pitch."The 2022 World Cup in Qatar saw England's squad embroiled in a dispute concerning LGBTQ+ rights when captain Harry Kane intended to don a rainbow armband.LATEST SPORTS NEWS:Leeds manager breaks silence after fans were heard booing during Ramadan break in Man City defeatEnglish football stadium set on fire in suspected arson attack as emergency services rush to the sceneBoris Becker makes feelings clear on cheating scandal while first wife was giving birth in hospitalHowever, the protest was abandoned after FIFA threatened to sanction the Football Association should he proceed with the gesture.Players also voiced opposition to wider human rights abuses in the host nation, where thousands of migrant labourers perished during construction projects in the years preceding the tournament.Molango described the England players as intelligent and socially aware individuals who recognise they possess a significant platform. "That platform can be used to create a better world and to try to influence people," he told Sky News.Despite their reservations about public pronouncements, the squad has been actively engaging with these matters in private, according to Molango."They are talking about all these issues, but behind the scenes; they don't just necessarily want to talk about them in public," he revealed. The PFA chief emphasised that players should retain autonomy over when and how they utilise their influence. "It is for them to use their platform when they deem it appropriate," Molango said.He stressed that most squad members hold strong opinions and wish to effect change, but insisted this must occur on their own terms rather than through external pressure."It cannot be that they are forced to become political spokespeople because that's not their job," he concluded. Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter
