• Elena Kostyleva after the free program at the Junior Grand Prix stage in Russia in Omsk:

"I go step by step, element by element, sometimes I even forget what I did at the beginning of the program. I didn’t think at all about the elements that didn’t work out.

Is it harder to repeat what you’ve already done? I don’t know about that, I didn’t think about it. Last season I even did more than that many times. It’s probably a shortcoming in training. How is your physical condition? Basically, everything is fine. I won’t blame any problems for my mistakes. It’s my fault.

Is it a psychological factor? I wouldn’t say it’s psychology. I relaxed a bit, started thinking about what I did during the warm-up, but in the program, I went as if I was still in the warm-up; in the program, you need to be more focused. Is winning gold and silver medals at the stages a good result? No. It’s good, but not for me. I could have done much more. I myself said that it’s all in my head, the coach said it’s experience to take these mistakes into account in the future so that they don’t happen again at bigger competitions.".

It does mean a lot that I'm able to honestly just be at such a big competition like the Grand Prix in general. Whether I'm on the podium or not, I'm glad that I was able to take that stage and perform.
Although, I do wish I performed a little bit better, there were a few things that I would definitely elevate. But I'm just really glad that my devotion to creation has led me to this point.

I didn't like how my jumps were today, but I tied my skates a little bit too tight when I went out there, I kind of do things like last minute.
So now that it's confirmed I'm going to the Grand Prix Final, I do really want to have my Gaga program ready for that. But if it's not fully ready, aI don't want to do it.
We've been working on the choreography because we have a pretty good blueprint of the music. So choreography is basically done, but as for the whole concept, not quite.

  • The Karate Belt System is a ranking structure used in martial arts like karate to signify a student's progress and skill level. It typically follows a progression of colored belts, from beginner to advanced ranks, with each color holding symbolic meaning about the student's journey and understanding of the art.
    Kyu Ranks (Beginner to Intermediate):
White Belt (Shiro Obi): Represents a blank slate, purity, and the beginning of the journey in karate.
Yellow Belt (Ki Obi): Symbolizes the first rays of sunlight, indicating the acquisition of basic knowledge and the beginning of understanding fundamental techniques.
Orange Belt (Daidaiiro Obi): Represents further growth, development, and a deeper understanding of techniques.
Green Belt (Midori Obi): Symbolizes growth and harmony, reflecting the practitioner's development and blossoming in the practice of karate.
Blue Belt (Ao Obi): Represents the sky and serenity, symbolizing the expansion of knowledge and understanding, and the development of advanced skills.
Purple Belt (Murasaki Obi): Denotes an advanced level of skill and dedication, indicating technical mastery and the integration of karate philosophy.
Brown Belt (Chairo Obi): Represents maturity and consolidation, symbolizing the earth, solidity, and stability as the practitioner nears mastery.
    Dan Ranks (Advanced):
Black Belt (Kuro Obi): The symbol of mastery and the culmination of a learning cycle, yet it also marks the beginning of a new journey of continuous teaching and refinement. Black belts have different degrees, known as Dan levels (e.g., Shodan for 1st Dan, Nidan for 2nd Dan).
Note: The specific order of colored belts and the meanings attached can vary slightly between different karate schools and styles, but the overall progression from white to black belt remains consistent.
