Jared Carrabis Makes Disappointing Red Sox Prediction Amid Rough Start
Jared Carrabis Makes Disappointing Red Sox Prediction Amid Rough Start originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Last year was a clear step forward for the Boston Red Sox, who improved from 81 wins in 2024 to 89 wins in 2025 and their first playoff berth in four years. After a chaotic and ultimately disappointing offseason, however, the Red Sox appear to be taking a step back in 2026 based on their concerning4-8 start.Boston fan and podcast host Jared Carrabis joined MLB Now on Wednesday to discuss the team's poor start and where they went wrong this year."I had them winning 90 games. I thought the offseason was fine. I think they shot for the moon and landed somewhere far beneath that," Carrabis told MLB Network's Brian Kenny. "It was an okay offseason. Where the expectations were, they were not met.".@Jared_Carrabis joins MLB Now to share his thoughts on the state of the Red Sox. pic.twitter.com/1C8zX5rPhY MLB Now (@MLBNow) April 8, 2026The Red Sox entered the offseason planning to re-sign Alex Bregman, add another middle-of-the-order bat to replace Rafael Devers, and acquire a No. 2 starter. They only accomplished one of those three goals, however, signing Ranger Suarez to bolster the rotation but losing Bregman in free agency and failing to add an elite slugger.Accordingly, Boston's putting a lot of pressure on Roman Anthony. He's only 21 and has just half a season of Major League games under his belt, but the Red Sox are already expecting him to carry their lineup, lead the team and be the face of their franchise in his first full season. Not surprisingly, Anthony has struggled a bit to start the season, batting just .217/.308/.348 with16 strikeouts in his first10 games. That's normal for a young hitter still adjusting to MLB pitching, but Boston's supporting cast hasn't been able to pick up the slack during his slump.Without Bregman and other veteran leaders to put the team on their back, Carrabis thinks this Red Sox season will be more like 2024 than 2025, thus losing much of last year's progress."It's the same issue that we had in2024... A talented roster, sure, but who's the leader? Who's the guy that they're following? Who's the guy that sets the tone? Who's the guy that can right the ship when you do start 3-8?" Carrabis asked. "They don't really have that guy, so they're kind of right back to where they were before all the Bregman stuff."More MLB:Red Sox Pitcher Shines In Dominant MLB Debut Vs. Brewers

Liverpool face uphill Anfield battle after PSG secure huge Champions League advantage
Liverpool's Champions League aspirations suffered a significant blow on Wednesday evening as they fell 2-0 to defending European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-final first leg at the Parc des Princes. The defeat marks the Merseyside club's 16th loss of what has become an increasingly troubled campaign under Arne Slot.Goals from Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia secured victory for Luis Enrique's Ligue 1 leaders in a thoroughly one-sided encounter. The result also extended a worrying run for the Reds, who have now lost four consecutive matches away from home for the first time since April 2012.The hosts took the lead after just 11 minutes when Doue's effort from inside the box deflected wickedly off Virgil van Dijk, looping over goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and into the net.The 20-year-old's strike set the tone for what would prove a thoroughly dominant display from the French side.PSG extended their advantage through Kvaratskhelia, who produced a moment of genuine quality to double the lead. The Georgian winger latched onto a superb defence-splitting pass from Joao Neves before rounding Mamardashvili and finishing with aplomb.Liverpool's backline, deployed in a five-man formation following their recent 4-0 thrashing by Manchester City, was repeatedly exposed throughout. The Reds managed just three attempts throughout the entire match, with none troubling PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. It was the first occasion Liverpool had failed to register a single shot on target in Champions League competition since their encounter with Atalanta in November 2020.Mamardashvili, deputising for the injured Alisson, prevented what could have been a far more humiliating scoreline. The Georgian stopper produced excellent saves to deny his compatriot Kvaratskhelia, Doue and Ousmane Dembele, while Achraf Hakimi was also thwarted.Dembele squandered three gilt-edged opportunities, including striking the woodwork late on following a Jeremie Frimpong error.Van Dijk offered a candid assessment following the final whistle, acknowledging the scale of the challenge ahead."Obviously, I am not happy losing a game. The only positive is that we have another game to play next week," the Dutch captain said.Khvicha Kvaratskhelia with incredible composure and PSG lead Liverpool 2-0 TNT Sports & HBO Max pic.twitter.com/ecBYcCYRBA Football on TNT Sports (@footballontnt) April 8, 2026 "That was tough."The defender conceded that Liverpool had failed to capitalise on transitional moments during the contest."We had some small moments on the break where we could have done better," Van Dijk added. "We had some opportunities on the counter. We can be better with our possession at Anfield."The second leg takes place at Anfield next Tuesday. Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter
